Where can I find the Desire S GSM ROM for the Desire GSM? - Desire General

Unbranded/Unlocked/Stock/Rooted HTC Desire GSM with Froyo
That's all really.
I don't want to move away from HTC Sense (even though I hear Cyanogenmod is very good) but would like the latest version of HTC Sense and Gingerbread. A few questions please:
1. Where can I find the Desire S GSM ROM for the Desire GSM? With installation instructions. I've already rooted.
2. I take it this is the best HTC Sense ROM to install? HTC Sense 3 (HTC Sensation) looks to be in it's infancy.
3. Will this ROM allow me to remove some of the preinstalled bloatware so I can install more apps?
Reasons for wanting to upgrade:
1. Increase storage, so I can install more apps. I'm always running out of storage.
2. Increase battery life.
3. Latest HTC Sense + Android.
Thanks

I should add:
1. I've tried searching but it drew a blank. All I could find was stock Desire S ROMs. I don't have a Desire S, so am guessing these won't work on my Desire.
2. I've never installed an Android ROM before, please bare that in mind when replying but have rooted my HTC Desire without trouble and also years ago installed TomTom on a cheap Chinese (Windows CE) satnav, again without much trouble.
Thanks.

Is this what you're looking for? Sense on Gingerbread based on Ace S (Is that Desire S??) Anyway , it is Gingerbread and Sense , as long as it works it should be fine whatever it is based on right?

All custom Roms are found in here if you wanna take a look.

Thanks 71baker. Yes that's basically it but I understand the Desire HD roms are safer.
Any idea where I can find a Desire HD (with Gingerbread) rom which works with the Desire and has installation instructions?

Try this one m8 i think you will find its what you are after.

there are some bugs in these roms at the present as they are early versions.

Thanks. That looks like just what I'm after. I'm not bothered about losing the video camera. It's absolutely rubbish.
720p is totally pointless when the lag is so bad, with even the slightest movement. My ancient VGA digital camera produces better videos (much lower res but perfectly fine motion).

Recommend a ROM

Hi,
Preferably, I'm looking for a HTC Desire HD ROM or something that has the new HTC Sense on it with APP2SD functionality, It must be Clean Stock (meaning no customization) and must be Stable to use with no or little lag. The Android version should be 2.2 or above and OTA update be operational (not required).
I have stumbled upon some ROMS, that match my specifications, however I want to know your experience with it. Common Bugs, how is it for everyday use? blah blah etc...
- RCMixHD v0.15 1
- DHD Rom Port by baadnwz v1.7c
- ۵.AuraxTSense v8.2 HTC Sense 2.2
- ۵.ReflexTSenseHD v1.5.1 DHD port
- RCS Touch v06
I want to be able to flash a new rom without any fuss, but I do not believe this likely to happen.
Here are my device specs:
Code:
BRAVO PV1 SHIP-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-01d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
-Android 2.2
-T-MOBILE UK - Branded
-Not-Rooted
-4GB Micro SD Card (GoldCard)
Before any tells me to do my research and check the entire forums and says it all depends on your desire, well the whole point of the thread is to give me guidance on what to do next and then summarize your points and experience.
If any more information is require, please tell me so.
Thank you.
Little Bump. No one?
Root
Flash Baadnewz 1.7c
EOD
root read , read again , check the threads of the roms u want to try , download rom , instal and if you like keep it if not repeat from (Check)
regards
baadnewz has to be the quickest most lag free hd rom
Forget hd if you want zero lag just stick to standard Sense or aosp gingerbread.
I've tried Alex V HD which is very good but not zero lag and heard lots of good news about baadnewz.

its got a memory leak and is sluggish after time
First of all - root it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044).
Second - S-Off (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805811).
Need help? Search xda and google, google, google!
Then - READ ALOT about the different roms, apps/data2sd, recovery images etc etc and choose the one you like most. Search for youtube videos of the roms you like.
Pay attention - some roms work only with specific radio versions. Most roms require (or at least suggest) performing a full phone wipe (including davlik cache), so don't forget to backup EVERYTHING before you start (including contacts, sms, mms). AND NEVER EVER REBOOT / DISCONNECT CABLE WHEN FLASHING!

I was leaning towards this rom, good job you told me this.
Also, please guys, although I appreciate your guidance I am not new to flashing etc and do not want instructions on 'how to root, flash, S-OFF and S-ON'. If you read my question, all I want is your opinions/views on what ROM is good enough to meet my specifications as well as your experiences. I do not want to keep flashing my phone, that's another reason why this thread was created. And Please no 'SEARCH GOOGLE, XDA FORUMS', and choose what you like. I will research the ROM that I have narrowed down, helped suggested by you guys and then Check if it's good to go. I know some of you will find me arrogant, which is not the case.
Keep your suggestions coming in...
Thank you.
youve picked the roms you want to try , why dont you try them and find out for yourself.
and no i dont find you arrogant more lazy
I'd recommend Baadnwz. I found it to be one of the quickest!

Most of you guys are suggesting 'badnewz', tell me your experiences with it.
...Or shall I just flash a unbranded Stock ROM and Root and Partition the SD?
Thanks
EDIT: What do you guys think of this ROM 'Ginger Villain 0.8?
I was using gingervillian 0.8 for awhile and found it to be very good, however as only the nexus s is running gingerbread officially, I found there are some apps that I need that won't work.

Now I'm thinking of flashing to the standard HTC Stock ROM and ROOT+APP2SD...
I'd recommend teppic's stock ROM + updates. Why ? Because the author updates it regularely and has offered lots of optional addons, meaning the ROM is not a "try to please all so im stuffed with all imaginable crap" one.

There isn't a decent Desire S ROM available, better looking at a Desire HD one (or my normal Desire 2.3.3 ROM )
Well you are right when thinking you can't use the desire s roms, as they need to be fitted to the hardware.
And if you want more space, i will suggest you stay on stock desire rom, as desire s roms fills quite a bit more. You should start looking at some a2sd scripts instead(those are also used to make desire s rom fit into desire).
If you want the new sense and gingerbread, we have a forum just for roms(development) in there you will find 1 thread for every rom. The one you will be searching for is "rcmix s" and yes as eddyos states try to go with desire hd instead.

Thanks for this Eddy. Can you point me to the link or what to search for?
It looks like you're running an HTC Desire HD ROM with Gingerbread. I'm pretty sure the Desire HD officially still runs Froyo. Cool.

Got it thanks. It sounds like I want the Desire HD ROM instead. Does that have the same version of HTC Sense as the Desire S? I thought it was newer again, no?
I'm not running a DHD ROM - I'm using an original Desire 2.3.3 ROM
Look for SuperDuperAwesomeROM in ROM Development if you wanna look

Funnily enough I've just been looking at that thread. If I was to flash a new ROM, I'd definitely want the newer HTC Sense and Gingerbread. Any idea where I can find the ROM for this (I'm guessing Desire HD)?
Cheers

Q: Update firmware or not

After a shocking experience with the sensation (had two both sluggish as hell and heat was horrendous) I have returned back to what I know the Desire HD
Ive just placed my order with Amazon for a unlocked / unbranded version it will probably come with 2.2 on is it worth the 2.3 update , ive been having a look around this forum and there is mixed experiences.
When I had the desire hd before it was blazing fast (what makes me laugh sensation is a dual core and to me it appeared slower that the hd) but when I had it , the phone had 2.2 on ..... having experienced 2.3 on sensation im really bothered about updating it when I get the phone tomorrow
what do fellow forum users think please
My opinion.. Root + S-OFF it and get a custom ROM. Try ARHD 5.2, it flies
Anyway, if you do not like custom ROMs for some reason (I cannot think why..), you should still update. Gingerbread is just better.
I gess the sensation is slow due to Sense 3.0. You can try any Sense 3.0 ROM in your Desire HD and then try a Sense 2.1 ROM like Android Revolution HD or even the stock ROM and you will see a BIG difference in terms of speed and fluidness.
Before rooting my phone I had the stock Froyo and updated to stock Gingerbread. I didn't notice any difference in speed between the two official ROMS (both were Vodafone branded, by the way).

Guide to GB ROMS?

Hello all,
I like many others, I have installed the new GB ROM from the RUU supplied by HTC and it is "OK". However, i would like something else.
I have seen many guide to install ROMS and it seems more or less clear.
My problem, and maybe the problem for other noobs if the fact that there are so many ROMs out there. It is difficult to know which one to take.
For example, I am looking for plain old stock android 2.3 for the desire. No sense, no extra HTC apps. Just what google would have on the nexus 1. But, I cant figure out which ROM fits that.
Any ideas?
What would be great is sticky which lists the ROMs and their main features for all us noobs. Unless there is one already and I didnt see it
Get Oxygen Rom mate its nice and basic , if u want to go too basic get DevNull
But for starters i think u shud go with oxygen
Pm me if u want to discuss any other details

Well, if you installed official Gingerbread 3.14.405.1 RUU, you can't get root (yet). No root means that you can't install custom rom.

watch the video tutorial too - but it sounds like you want an AOSP rom
Yup, you definitely wanna try Oxygen + it was recently updated to Android 2.3.5.
It's sense free, all bloatware removed, very fast & minimalistic.
http://forum.oxygen.im/viewtopic.php?id=149 (it wasn't updated on XDA yet, but you can download it from there)
CyanogenMod7 will also fit you.
Should have read into what you were doing before you updated. You can't root now, which means no custom ROMs for you. HTC updated HBOOT so no more rooting for the time being. You're stuck with it till someone cracks it. Unlucky dude.
My recommendation:
Sense (2.1+3.0) : InsertCoin 1.0.9
AOSP: Oxygen
no MIUI from me...sorry..
Thanks for all the replies. I am pretty sure it is only a matter of days or weeks at most until I can root. I recall the same situation last update.
It sounds like oxygen is the way to go. Once the root is available I will give it a shot. Thanks.

I think you should change the name of your topic...
Vanilla is used in android when the build is from google source or cyanogen's source, this is known as an AOSP build... (=>No Sense)
What you want is a "stock" rom with root, right?
The most popular GB roms with sense is:
LeeDrOid HD, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056727
and
Android Revolution HD, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040
Which one to use is up to you...
