I find the phone to be quite slippy without any coverings. I don't really want to add a skin or jell case, they will make the phone too thick. I tried fully body screen protectors on my G1 but found they did not last on the body, the edges peeled after a few months on any curved surfaces.
I wondering if anyone made a softtouch back casing, that could replace the one (two) that came with the phone, just something with some grip so the phone does not slip out of your hands so easily...
Other options which could make it even better... it had a think layer of jell for a bit of impact protection... if the side edges extended to cover the metal band on the front, so that it could provide a little screen impact protection too. I maybe asking for a lot, sort of an all in one but it seems like a feasible product.
Everyone is waiting for new backcovers. Samsung will likely make them available, and surely the aftermarket, too. But none are out there, yet.

I think it would be cool if they made some metal ones
this is number 1 on my list (rubberized backing)......phone is extremely slippery. number 2 would be anti-glare screen protector, and for 3 i would get a holster from Seidio
If you don't mind sacrificing one of the covers that came with the phone, you could spray it with Plasti-Dip...a readily available rubberized paint. Soft Feel paint from Alsa would probably be much better, but that stuff is only available commercially. If I try the Plasti-Dip, i'll post how it turns out.

that might be worthwhile since I don't like the purple backcover anyway. Now if i can remember where i put it....
I don't know if you guys noticed but any crunching sound is coming from the battery cover and not the chrome trim. I noticed that on a demo model
I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE an aluminum cover, with plastic cutouts overe the antennas for celluar/WIFI/BT/GPS.
I'd settle for Matte too.

i was thinking same thing - if you do it first, abrade (sand) the surface fairly rough so it gets a good bite to the surface - just a suggestion
Or just get some 3m di-noc vinyl carbon fiber film. Did it to my EVO back before taking it back. Looks great and has a texture to it. Got the idea from the EVO section here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=703496
That looks pretty nice! The bump is probably hard to do though =/ and wish they had different colors

bought Plasti-dip and sand paper, trying it now....
and now i finally understand why Sammy included the 2nd ugly cover w/ Vibrant

i want pink! lol
and for the plasti-dip.. please do post pics when u r done!
this plasti-dip stuff is very nice and looks like from factory. i put 3 coats already. cant comment on durability. ps. i light sanded the cover before just in case.
if this stuff hold well, i am planning on doing the same to my other cover.
Picture taken with Nexus
before doing the second one, you might try checking your signal strength (iirc #*#*4636*#*# ) to see if you're experiencing signal loss with the plasti-dip'd cover
if you don't see any signal loss, an idea for you on the 2nd one - take whatever amount of pasti-dip you'll think it will take, and mix in some media to give it some body or thickness as well as texture - maybe some short 1/4 - 1/2" fiberglass strands, ground up walnut media, ground glass or even sand) - just mix in and stir before painting it on
if you do go that route, might try a little bit first and paint onto something else (something plastic or metal that won't absorb any of the material like wood would) just to see what texture it gives you on the surface as well as what kind of build up it gives

I doubt rubber paint will effect signal. The grip and feel just like other rubberized things. Looks like from factory and was super easy to do. 3 coats with 20 minut intervals and 1 hour to dry, instructions say let dry for 4 hours. Sand with 600-800 sand paper. why 3 coats, well just in case....
ps any one know how to remove the chrome trim ? i wanna paint that too. when all this glossy plastics get oily, i hate the feeling it creates.
Kolyan,
looks great. thanks for trying this and posting pics.
What did you use to apply it? Did you paint or spray it on?
Since the vibrant comes with two different battery covers, where are all the third party ones? Are battery covers, especially with the vibrant/galaxy s chin on the bottom, hard to make? I was hoping to get a nice rubbery one like how the battery cover of the garminfone has.
Not yet OP. But there might be in the future.
The phone was only released 20 some days ago. It takes a some time for third party accessories to get made, but with the popularity of the galaxy s phones I'm sure some will be made.

it would be awesome if some one made metal/ aluminum back cover for vibrant. It might make the phone a little bit heavier.

You have no idea how much I've been hoping for and searching for this exact thing. I would love a back such as this not only for a slightly heavier phone but it just feels less cheap and easy to break and feels more, I don't know, sturdy in the hand. Less slippery too than plastic.
Google is your friend!
Closest to metal back plate i have found is here...
It doesn't say if any of those backs are aluminum/metal. I assume they are all just the same plastic crap that comes with the phone -- if so, not interested!
I have that case from daydeal and the back is metal but doesn't add to much weight to it. And it scratches kinda easy so just be careful. But overall im happy with it.

is it a case or a back cover only?
It's somewhat a case, very similar to the casemate barely there case.
I also have the aluminum case. It's pretty nice, and I didn't see a drop in GPS reception with it - but my GPS is terrible regardless. I like the cae, even if it isn't a back-plate.
I swap my cases around, so I'm using a simple clear/argyle TPU cover over a white back-plate right now.

Metal Cases
I have found two different cases available. One is all metal, the other is a mix of plastic and aluminum. Here are the links to eBay auctions.
All Metal Case
Aluminum and Plastic Case Available in Silver, Red, Black and Blue.
The Aluminum and Plastic case says I-9000, but also says it is for the Vibrant.
A simple eBay search of Vibrant Metal Case will pull up the same results I found.

Just curious if any of your guys are using any particular hard or gel cases for the MT4G that you are happy with so far? I need to get one for my wife's phone and want to see what the community is using thus far...
Im using one and it fits nice and tight. It came packaged with a screen protector and a microfiber cloth with the mytouch logo on it. I really like gel covers, it kinda absorbs drops. I had one on my cliqxt at it kept it looking brand new with no battle scars
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I got the same one, problem I have with it is it picks up dust so easily. It goes from being a black gel case to grey. I did see one at T-Mobile I really liked, a thin grey gel skin with a hard white back that went over it.
i find hard cases to be more for logo's/styles... its hard to find a hard case thats actually tight and protective from all angels, most the time when its dropped it just pops right off... gel cases absorbs the shock but also doesn't pop off so prevents scratching... TPU cases are nomally not as "sticky" as gel cases where fibers from your pocket will stick to them... all in all its personal preference

This is the one I use and I LOVE IT! Soft on the inside, hard on the outside! Slides EASILY in and out of case/pocket and NO LINT/DIRT collection on it like with bare GEL covers.... Pricey at $30 but worth it!
That case does look sick on the phone (thanks for the pic's) but does it make the phone thick? I usually end up taking my case off just because I prefer thin phones... I would imagine this would be like using 2 cases hence doubling the thickness?
The gel case is very thin, doesn't add a whole lot of bulk to it. It winds up being about as thick as a standard case.

Very thin much better then the gelskin and sits almost flush with the screen so its real easy to type on the edges.

That's the one I have. Actually, that particular case is what decided for me whether to get the Black/Red model or the White one (which I chose).
Had they had this exact setup in Black/Red, I would have gone that way. But as it stands, I really like it. Plus, it has the "MyTouch" logo on the back, which adds to it's "Not-from-some-mall-kiosk" appearance.
T-mo stores...
my only gripe is how hard the case is to get on properly, which would be no problem exept you cant dock it with it on...
If they had the grey/black combo I'd have bitten the bullet and gotten it. Of course, vinyl dye would work pretty well, as long as you give it a few days to cure.

Yup got mine at a T-mo Store too and love it...I have the Case-Mate Tough Case on my Nexus and this is hands down way thinner and sexier!
Went to the tmo store yesterday and looked at the cases. Every single one of them covers the dock buttons, so if you're planning on docking it, you'll have to take it out of its case, dock it, put it back in etc...etc... What a pain. If they make a car dock, that's going to be even worse.
I can just see my typical day... wake up, take out of dock, slip into case, get to car, slip out of case, on to car dock, get to work, get out of car dock, slip into case, get to desk, slip out of case, put into desk dock, go to lunch, slip into case, etc... OMG!
The only one I saw that wouldn't be too bad is the plastic holster that just cradles the front and leaves the back open.
thats what i wound up with for the exact same reason!... that plus a phantom skin when they drop will probably be what covers mine
Wow i really like that case.... is it anywhere online? I just freakin spent 20 bucks online on a gray rubber/clear plastic bodyglove on ebay... It should come any day now I just hope it doesnt clash with my red phone lol but yeah.... Is that case available online or only at tmobile?

Hi guys,
Just wondering if any of you using a Rock Quicksand case with your S3 have found a leather pouch that the duo will fit in?
I was thinking of buying the official case and hoping it will stretch, but any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers

I bought one of these to try > http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007X2IOQA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
Simply because the reviewer said it was loose, it is. Probably enough to get the phone+Rock on with a bit of work. Accepts mine no problem with a flip cover, which has a wider case back and the front flap. Not bad quality either.
Thanks for the reply! In the end, I took a chance and ordered the genuine Samsung Galaxy Note pouch which fits the combo perfectly.
Absolutely delighted.

You guys mind taking some shots of the S3 in note's pouch? I wanna see how snugly it fits into the pouch, and how easy it will be to take out.
I'm using the rock quicksand as well and I have been looking for comfort fit neoprene pouch, nothing skin tight.
Thanks!
Here you go!
The phone fits firmly in the note case but is also extremely easy to remove - if you squeeze the edges of the pouch together, the phone slips out freely.
Couldn't ask for more!

Nice! but it looks like it's made of leather (or faux leather). what's the inside like? same material? suede? I'm just paranoid of how it may scratch my screen. hence I've been looking for neoprene materials all these while. my nillkin protector is dry application hence doesn't cover everything. you reckon it'll be safe from scratches?
Looks like they don't have it locally though. Gonna need to order online....

Youre worried about the 2 millimeter space around the screen protector that is of no actual use anyway? (which is also made of gorilla glass 2 and I have to assume it can withstand some soft suede)

I think I'm going to get the Krussell Luna 4XL pouch. I already have a KaysCase and I think the 3XL pouch would fit my phone only but with the case on it I think the 4XL would be a better fit.
http://www.amazon.com/Krusell-Premium-Leather-Samsung-SmartPhones/dp/B006VAMZLA/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1341019454&sr=1-1&keywords=krusell+luna+4xl
Hi,
any experience with the Luna 4XL yet? Got a Quicksand merely out of curiosity and I am so much impressed of the haptics it adds, don't want to return it. Still, more important to me is a pouch that protects the phone, especially the screen when it's in my pocket, laptop case, backpack, etc.
I hab pretty good experiences, case-wise with the Noreve on my HD2, but the S3 with the Quicksand so far did not fit into any of the pouches I tried. Placed an order for the Krusell, even though the Quicksand is thicker than the specs for the Luna are (10.8 vs 10 mm). We'll see how it fits...

So I was thinking about applying some mink oil on my brown leather G4. Anybody has better ideas on how to take care of the leather back?
I read the leather treatment is a 14 week process similar to Louie V. Bags and leather is same quality so I'm sure you would take care of it similar to those items i mentioned.
I just sprayed some nanosealant/leather care spray over the back. Should be fine, if not then on to the proper leather care products that I use for my jackets and boots.

I'll probably use either coconut oil or the same stuff I use on my jacket and boots.
Yea, I have some leather balm for my car seats. Might give it a try on the phone.
Just let it get that natural rugged wear and tear
That's how I treat my boots and leather jackets
