I've noticed that "loop" acts as a web page... Maybe Original KinOS is exploitable. Can someone run tests on Original OS? I have a feeling that it has a weakness.

We dont really know what the inner differences are yet, so who knows.
The only thing that could help is the case where the original OS had some kind of exploitable app/config.
And you can always disable the air data thing. I never had it enabled (although i didnt use the phone to call).

Alright, I guess i'll downgrade and check it out. I really need RSS feed, im tired of using google reader.

I meant that i used the airplane mode and i dont have CDMA coverage, so beware of what you do. I couldnt be charged cause of no network.

True. But there's no Kin Studio.. How can I be charged for transferring data to something that doesn't exist?

Pros
-The Spot
Cons
-Discontinued Loop, Microsoft discontinued the Cloud which powers the Loop
-No Calculator
-No Calendar
-[reverting in general] deletes EVERYTHING off of your device
-Non-Functioning Kin Studio (FaceBook/Twitter)
Basically, all you really get is the Spot which helps you send photos and videos a bit. But, no calculator or calendar application is very annoying. AND, your device may NOT be compatible with downgrading. Please visit forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049473 for more information about device downgrade compatibility.

Updated OP with info I have collected and Info that was given to me.

The app runs alot smoother. And Quality is done by comparing two pictures. One taken on 1.0.1 OS and one taken on 1.0 OS.
I will be upgrading today. I can take a few sample pics and see accurate comparison.

I would like to see the comparison so can you post them up?

Barcode scanner, offline (no internet connection needed)

Hi guys.
Who wanted a free barcode scanner? Here we are...
No network connection needed; app based on zxing library and Kevin Marshall's (from Clarity Consulting, can't remember his blog url now) code.
I just slightly modified the original code and added a few (probably useful but not sure ) services.
App interface is very simple: run application, focus on barcode, and wait until code is recognized. Touch handset screen to run recognition again.
Buttons description:
- "Save" saves captured barcode to jpeg;
- "Bing" and "Google" used for barcode web lookup (probably this part needs more work)
- "Mail" and "SMS" used for sending recognized code text.
Enjoy!
UPDATE 1: v 1.1, auto focus added;
UPDATE 2: v 1.2, orientation-less UI added, project moved to opensource at googlecode: http://code.google.com/p/barcodescan/
UPDATE 3: v 1.2.1, slightly changed autofocus logic, now works better on HTC. Download link: http://barcodescan.googlecode.com/files/BarcodeScanner.xap
UPDATE 4: v 1.2.2
- barcode search improved;
- added HTC detection, changes in autofocus logic;
http://barcodescan.googlecode.com/files/BarcodeScanner_1.2.2.xap
Is this a marketplace app?

I can't seem to get it to do anything. It says 'Scanning...' and I'm trying different distances to codes, but nothing ever happens. Any pointers?
Is this limited to any country or is it just reading out what the barcode says?
OK, lets go through step by step:
- it's not a marketplace app and have no chance to be published 'cause it uses undocumented camera API; you should download and unpack attachment and sideload the app;
- if you can't capture the barcode, try better lighting. Also, move a handset to autofocus camera. In my tests the scanner captured 100% of barcodes: from books, computer part boxes, foodstuff...
- it's not limited to US 'cause (I believe) the barcodes are international. And yes, it's just reads the barcode; however you may bing or google results, in the most cases search engines able to find product/book description or specifications.
It's a very basic scanner; if someone can recommend online API/service to parse barcode value, I can add it to the program (but I really do not want to spend much time for this)
It technically works but the issue is lack of AF or Macro access.
On my Focus, it only works if I scan a barcode off of my PC (do an image search for one) --then it's super fast and quick.
Books, CDs, etc. do not work, regardless of lighting or distance--I suspect because the camera is not trying to AF. Any work around to that?
I've tested first on HTC Surround - work perfect (I can prove). But you've right about Focus'es bad autofocus (LOL, sound nonsense - "Focus have no autofocus"!).
Will see what I can do... Any other suggestions or wishes (about barcode lookup, UI, etc.)?
P.S. Fixed (reload version from the first post), now working good on Samsung Focus.

Boom.
Working great on Focus now. Nice job. Think I'll try an LG next... bwahaha
As far as changes, no none right now. I'm sure what other apps use for barcode price comparisons--but perhaps a tie into Amazon or eBay would be good. Too bad you can't just jack into ShopSavvy's system with it, lol. If I think of any, will post back.
Edit: Working on LG Quantum too!

Works well on my HD7! Great job! Hopefully it will tie in with Amazon and save previous searches within the app etc

Do you have any interest in releasing the source? I may have some time to improve upon this a bit, but I'd rather not start from scratch (or step on any toes re-creating virtually the same thing).

Here we are: http://code.google.com/p/barcodescan/
Send me a PM with your gmail and I'll add you to the project contributors. Do not forget comment each commit, increment solution version and promptly build community release (and upload xap to the project's download page!) - and you allset
BTW, there are many things to improve: better UI (completely orientation-less), additional functionality - commit found barcodes to database etc. etc. etc.

how do i copy this scanner programme to my htc hd7
i really hate this phone i had a htc touch pro 2 and it was far better can someone help me out here and also if some one can teach me how to customize personal ringtone would be great
Thx for the code. Really usefull to learn from this
Sometimes when you scan a barcode and touch the screen to start again. After a few seconds it stops and shows the last barcode again.
It looks like the UI thread is catching up scanning some images. How to get rid of this?

Sorry, I don't have a time for that application now but it should be significantly refactored.If you want you may join the project and continue development, we can share some ideas for app improvement etc.
As for problem u described, you should play with the different capture resolutions or give some hardcoded "pause" to recognition library Also, MS camera API (still not officially allowed) is not documented and very poor... However it's a great field for experiments and hacks
Thanks! That works great on my HD7.

Im not that experienced in multiple threads. Do you think the problem is in the Zxing lib?
Looking at the code the Zxing lib should have a completed event from which you can restart or show the image.
This code works but is racing and racing in the UI thread and after finding a barcode and restarting it looks like something from a buffer is used..
Code:
private void GrabFrame()
{
Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(() =>
{
if (_Camera != null && CameraVisualizer.Visibility == Visibility.Visible)
{
WriteableBitmap wb = new WriteableBitmap(640, 480);
_Camera.GetCurrentFrame(wb);
wb.Invalidate();
ScanBarcode(wb);
wb.DisposeIfPossible();
GrabFrame();
}
});
}

Android apk's for IT types

While there are plenty of useful threads out there pointing out various apps, I haven't found one that listed the kinds of apps that someone who works in IT like me might find useful, hence this thread.
Hopefully others can add.
1/
ABBY Business Card Reader - A nice app to take a picture of a business card, them import it into contacts. - It is NOT 100% accurate, it DOES require user input to make corrections, but even so, it is worth the money.
2/
Snap n go - a useful little app that requires a companion app on the PC - basically use a camera to take a pic of windows explorer and touch the file to import viw wi-fi
3/
Office suite - self explanatory
4/
Gingerbread keyboard - what it says, if you type much this is the best by far.
5/
QR droid - 2D barcodes, fabulously useful, learn to use these things, you will need to sooner or later.
6/
Electrodroid - paid version - absolutely brilliant for anyone who goes anywhere near computer or electronic hardware, does far too much for me to list here, from various connector pin-outs to resistor circuit calculations.
7/
MobileBiz Pro - paid version - create quotes and send invoices from your mobile, the complete mobile billing solution, one customer will pay for this truly excellent app.
8/
PC Monitor - paid version - companion to an app run as a service on a PC, stonking app, does just about everything you could require for monitoring and controlling remote computers via GSM, including running command line, booting users, controlling services, monitoring hardware, truly excellent app.
9/
WiFi File Explorer - paid version - file manipulation and exchange between phone and any computer with wi-fi, just open a browser window on the computer. Another superb app.
Just add a 16 gig SD card and fill it with useful apps and tools, magic, never worry about which USB stick hold what again.
10/
Wifi Analyser - does what it sounds like, very useful.
11/
RF Signal tracker - does what it sounds like but for phone / radio frequencies, very useful.
12/
SetCPU - paid app - brilliant for underclocking on demand, which prolongs battery life.
13/
Network mapper - the android version of cheops etc.
14/
SMS Backup + (Jan Berkel) - does what it says on the tin.
15/
Contact Analyser 2 - stops cruft building up with contacts.
16/
GTech Net Tools - another very useful TCP test app
17/
Network Info II - another useful network info tool
18/
Terminal Emulator - does what it says on the tin
19/
GPS Survey - very useful for outdoor wi-fi
20/
Google - Mail / Maps / Navigation / Buzz, very very useful.
21/
Titanium backup - self explanatory
All of the above turn my Galaxy S into a portable office complete with customer billing, plus a portable computer / wi-fi diagnostic toolbox
I would swap 14 for SMS Backup+. It backs up the call log as well and all automatically to your Gmail account.

Thanks for the mention of Electrodroid, it comes in very handy in the garage, even if it does now mean my phone gets covered in grease and oil now

If you go near a car then Garage Buddy is also quite useful.
There are also some good android ODB interfaces if you have a more modern vehicle.

Differences between 7712 and RTM 7720?? Post your experience

as the title says, anyone who has upgraded Mango beta 2 to RTM 7720. Have you noticed anything different? Speed, features, stability etc.? lets use this thread to post our experiences (still havent done it yet, but will report once i do)
cheers

thanks for putting up this thread, im looking for some differences as well.
I haven't upgraded yet to the leaked mango, it is tempting, but I`d rather wait for the official rom for my trophy.
from what I heard the 16bit color banding is still present, and no hidden wifi connectivity, and IE9 HTML5 performance is not yet optimized to 50fps due to the generic drivers used by the rom, instead of using the drivers specifically designed to the particular device, and this [maybe] why the 7720 is still in carrier/OEM testing.
The only so far is the maps, that were not working in brazil.

By maps do you mean turn by turn navigation? I haven't really tried this in 7712 (btw im back to nodo 7392) all i know is that it can route locations and stuff, but not voice navigation.
Some says TBT is region dependent like Bing LS and Audio.
I dont know im not really seeing what the differnce is either they could have at least let you change alert tones you can set parameters for wifi connections other than that unless im missing it not even seeing what the update was for.
i haven't really seen anything different from beta 2

IE9 now earns 141 points (7712 - 140) in HTML5 Test
By maps i mean i couldnt even find a place here. Now I can
But no turn by turn..
I found the HTC Apps in Marketplace is now working.
only found "not for resale" disapears
Exiting Bing Vision with the back button no longer freezes for a second as it did in 7712. Now there is an animation of the Bing page sliding down.
People Hub is changed. Twitter integration is now completely functional, so is LinkedIn as mentioned. Contacts show up and auto link where able to. Instead of having to go to individual posts on different services, you can now click the post and pivot to see the replies on different services. Phone is faster. Keyboard bug is fixed where it wouldn't automatically capitalize the first word of texts in messaging hub. Lock screen delay is gone on my HD7. Battery calibration seems a little more accurate, at least for me. Before, if you hit the search button in the Phone to search contacts, but backed out, the bottom buttons wouldn't reappear, this is fixed. Bluetooth is more consistent for me, it doesn't drop, it did on the previous build, often. Tiles no longer "bleed" and flicked through lockscreen for me. I know I found more fixes and features, but this is all I remember off the top right now.

also switching orientation has a different effect especially the people tab
i updated to 7720 yesterday and i think the lock screen is a bit different, the time and data shows up like an smooth animation (fade in) effect. i dont know if this was in 7712???
The time and date fade out has been in place since NoDo
I've just noticed it being a little smoother and boot up showing "not for Resale" is gone. It broke my sideloading tho, so I guess that's something
better battery life and increase in overall performace
Did anyone with mango update can confirm if Arabic is now read correctly on IE9? RTL issue

update!
This the latest beta firmware of bada 2.0 for the Wave I & Wave II. Samsung has compiled both firmwares on Monday 8th August. Below you will find a short list with some things that has been changed or improved:
- New icon (Sound & vibrate) in the statusbar
- Better Graphics startup screen Chaton app
- Slightly changed keyboard
- New startup screen Twitter app
- Slightly changed Youtube icon (Menu)
- Faster scrolling through photos
- Voice output, you download German test voicefiles. With voice output your device can read incoming sms text messages, email and more. I haven’t test this feature at the moment.
- Can’t log into my Samsung account.
Problems:
With this firmware I faced for the first time some real problems, because it will crash on some (stranges) moments (mainly using the twitter app). I advice you to set the debug level on low, so you won’t get a blue screen with detailed crashlogs instead your device will reboot automatically.
For the ones who are using KIES for backups, I can advice you to backup only the contacts and sms text messaging. I won’t suggest to use a full backup, I’ve tried it 2 times but both times my device crashed and it got stuck into a reboot loop.
Overall I can say that the devices are a bit faster (snappier) but it also crashed often than before. Since this is just a beta firmware its normal that it crashed.
Once again I’m warning people that they should be aware of these things. If you want a stable 2.0 firmware you should wait till 2.0 is ready!!
- How to fix Samsung account problem...
There is a new Samsung Account login in this beta Firmware and it doesnt work, users cannot type in passwort and after klicking on logon bada crashes. But there is a workaround, so everyone can use the downloads in samsung apps.
At the first startup page to configure language time, and samsung account there is still the old login page.
You can trick the wave by removing your simcard starting the phone with it, then it forgets that it was already the first time started.
After that simply add your simcard and logon on the first startup page, after that you will not see in settings/accounts any account but you can use them as always.
Email accounts can be handeled over the settings/email and so on.
You will see Samsung Account over samsungapps.
Things I've seen already:
- much faster and smoother than before
- font much easier on the eyes (clearer)
- bootsplash black again (no blueish like in XPKH1) / dialogs still blue
- the 3 info pop-ups after first-run have been revamped
- several icons revamped
That's nice, but based on what I have read on the SamFirmware changelog, I decided to NOT flash my phone with this firmware, mainly because I don't particularly like (frequent) crashes....
I'll stick to XPKH1 for now...
20 more min of downloading (hotfile is piss slow as usual .. 100kb/s )
Then i'll flash as well

thanks for the clarification, nevertheless I rely on the twitter client... Anyway, I'm sure the next beta will have these problems fixed, and I feel safe enough with XPKH1...
thanks again!
what i want to know is does it installs all apps? is it worth the download?
Seems SocialHub - at least here - (changed CSC to DBT) doesn't show my set-up Facebook account, though it properly display the feed and posts status updates.
You'll see that it actually added the account by checking feeds or "add account" there facebook won't show up anymore (obviously).
More I noticed:
- phone faster reacts after boot
- you can't switch pages by swiping in the gap between the bottom two rows (on menu, not homescreen)
SamsungApps always tells me "network not available", also I can't see any string in it's UI.

oh man, DAP??? it kinda reminds me of... 2000/2001 times and stuff!
But you're right, Hotfile is very slow generally...I paid for a premium account some months ago, and had been cursing every moment after I did that... Filesonic works for me like a charm for months now.
I also noticed:
- CPU usage in "About phone" is shown in real-time now
It was always in real time.
Is it safe to flash this one ? All the people who flashed.... are they experiencing loads of crashes ?
as other 2.0,, once get into contact.. then to get back to main screen will be difficult ... few home touch needed

There are crashes as before. But I was able to restore my yesterday's backup (with Apps ) and some of the stuff worked from the backup. Apps, background, internet connection settings. I tlost however my bookmarks, the homescreen settings, accounts and the ringtones...
But the biggest selling point of this fw is the SPEED. It's much faster. The browser flies compared to the KH1.

I am disappointed with many features missing in oxygenOS and other things

I am dissapointed with many missing features in oxygenOS and other things like :
1)Screen pinning with gestures is not possible even though google had implemented this quite a while ago.
2)Bloatware like multiple "file" apps and netflix
3)How confusing it is to access emergency contacts through lock screen
4)Users cannot directly login to their account from lock screen by typing their respective password. It takes too much of time in switching profiles.
5)Call recorded filling the view in voice recorder, it should be in a folder when we swipe right in recorder.
6)Lift to wake feature not present.(the app made for this is a hit or miss sometimes and does not work with ambient display, but kudos to the developer)
7)Being switched off easily without passcode so if stolen the thief can quickly get away. ( I know there are other ways but thiefs are not that smart i assume)
8)60fps video is considerably dull compared to 30fps both in hd and 4k.
9)Manual focus does not provide complete range of focus in pro mode, and you can only shoot from main lens in pro. 48mp mode is also hidden there..
10)System software using 27gb of internal storage, would have bought the 256 gb variant if i knew about this.
And many many other countless things i can't remember at the moment but could be improved very easily by oneplus.
Do you agree with me or am i wrong at some places ? This is my first post so don't hesitate to point out my mistakes.
You expect too much, if you were so concerned with such minute things, you might have stuck with your previous OEM
Oneplus doesnt know what you are used to and what you want, they provide what they feel is best, you should have done a through research if you had such needs, also there are barely 2-3 promotional apps which you call bloatware. Also the file app which you say is installed on every android device by default which is triggered when sharing, its just oneplus gave you an icon to access it separetly too.

2)Netflix: is mandatory to get HDR certification (Netflix mandatory)
6) You have that option under system settings.
7) All phones, computers, servers... All of them can (and MUST) be switched off without password or software related requisite.
10)A/B partitions (Google mandatory). Thanks to that we can participate in beta programs and have quicker updates.

In samsung mobiles, you are required to put the password before switching off the phone. So i wish that could also be implemented in oneplus.
The lift to wake feature i want is when I pickup the phone, it completely unlocks after seeing my face which is not present.
I wish i also knew about the 27gb thing cause then i would have bought the 256 because overall the phone is great.
Ik i am nitpicking but some points are still valid.

About Samsung mobiles, I guess you are talking about normal switch off. There is an emergency switch off (vol- + power)that should overrides any pin (in any manufacturer).
Ok, you mean get into home screen. Well, that is a personal preference. I prefer to stay into lock screen but with the notifications expanded to see if I really want/need to unlock the phone.
The space used by the system is that way since android 9. All we know that android is about 10gb so if you have two partitions (A/B) it will be twice the space used. All manufacturers warn about it into the specs with something like "the space available for the user will be less due to blablabla...".
