Best Kernel to Run with Cyan 7.0.2 - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking for some help with the best Kernel I can run with Cyans roms. Looking for good battery like everyone else, but something stable that wont bring my phone down.
I forgot what Kernel I tried a while back but once my phones screen turned off I could never get it to wake up again unless I pulled the battery so I don't want to relive that one.
Any help or Suggestions would be great.

i have savaged zen bfs havs 1.1.0
for me great battery life.

Go with Tiamat 3.3.8, if your phone reboots due to the undervolting, flash viperboy's overvolt script.

Savagaed-Zen 2.0.0 cfs-havs-wimax(sbc or nonsbc is your choice) w/ vipers undervolt script.

Could someone give me a link to Savagaed-Zen 2.0.0 cfs-havs-wimax and vipers undervolt script.
I take it I add both to the SD card and then use clockwork to flash the zips?
Also what exactly does the vipers undervolt script do for me? I want to be sure I have good power still.

Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917755
Underscript: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1028322&highlight=viperboy+voltage
The underscript is explained in the 1st post in that link. It saves the heck out of battery life. If the Savaged-Zen kernel doesnt work out for you, then Tiamats is the way to go.

I run the 100mv, as my phone can handle it. Start at 100, and if your phone doesn't boot, or freezes short after, battery pull, flash the removes undervolt script, then flash the one below it, like 100 > 75, untill you get one that is stable for you.

Also which of the Savage ones do you use?
This one SavagedZen(MOD)-RC2-Evo4G.zip looks to be the most downloaded is this the one to get? Also don't want anything with the trickle battery stuff.
Thanks for all your help here.

I personally haven't used savaged zen since I switched to Tiamat, but the cfs played nice for me, along with bfs, never used and sbc kernel; my personal preference. And n ever a problem.

Thats a ROM. Look for Savaged-Zen AOSP Kernel. In my opinion search for Tiamat Kernel instead. I just flashed it with the -50 undervolt script and my phone doesnt freeze anymore with no lag either.

[q] want a rom with overclock built in...

Can anyone tell me the best rom that comes with an overclocked kernal built in? Looking for a kernal that has killer battery life also. I've been looking but i'm new to the dinc and am not sure what the best one is. I tried to install a custom ziggy kernal with incredibly re-engineered installed but it started rebooting every time it started up... Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Did you read everything before flashing ziggy's kernel? this is quoted from his site. did you have setcpu installed before you flashed?
NOTE1: If you’re having problems, please uninstall/disable SetCPU and any init scripts first. A lot of the issues are OC related. If everything works fine after doing that, slowly start over-clocking, if not, please post. Once the problem speed is found, report it, but most likely, it’s a voltage issue, not all phones/processors are equal. Since these kernels have snq-’s VDD sysfs interface, you can modify the VDD levels yourself. If there are any Java developers that would like to tackle the task of writing a program to assist, please do, I’ll help as much as I can
oh and make sure you dl the right kernel its the bottom 2 on his page. i made that mistake earlier today. tryed loading a bravo kernel and my phone got stuck in the splash screen

Incredibly re-engineered comes with Lou's #8 kernel, which is my understanding that it already has pre-configured screen off speeds, governor etc. It could be as simple as a wipe cache/dalvik that would solve your problem.
Other than that, i'm curious as to why you are looking into OC when you want killer battery? Those don't go together
Ok. I missed the setcpu statement. Ill try that... and I want to oc because this inc wont play the only game I play worth a crap compared to my old x... homerun battle 3d... im hoping that will help...

[Q] Myn's Warm ROM Question

I guess I'm under 10 posts so I could not post in his thread.
But I installed the rom and everything is awesome btw,
Now under his alternative kernels it has the Netarchy's agressive v7 kernel, I installed it, and if I put setcpu at 1.267 ghz my phone shuts off and reboots?
IS there a reason why?
Also it just went to its first reboot and it went into a bootloop?
K now it's not bootlooping but it starts up and after about 15 seconds it reboots.
EDIT: I flashed the stock kernel and its fine now, but I want to OC it just a little why is it doing that?
you cant overclock it above 1.1 as far as i know thats all the cpu is really capable of

On this rom?
When I had the Evio 2 rom and stock kernel it would go to 1.228.
And on this one, 1.267 makes it reboot.
any kernels or Roms that i have had it would always loop above 1.1 your lucky that u got it to go that high how was it at that speed lol.

i was told that if you OC and start having bootloop scale back the OC until it gets stable again.
I got netarchy's 4.3.2 kernel and it's clocked to 1.228, wont go any higher since the incident.
From my understanding, no two phones are exactly alike and one phone will allow you to OC more than another. The most I ever OC to is 1.19 but I usually keep it at 1.15 and it is very stable. I've gone up to 1.267 and it still worked, but I only left it at that number for a few seconds and I never tried to go higher.
It's a crap shoot with overclocking. With different ROMs, Kernels and hardware in play, the results can be very different from one version to the next. This is the nature of overclocking. As mentioned in a previous post, you need to keep notching it back until it gets stable again.

Well it was hard to notch it back since I had set at boot checked and it was at 1.267, so I had to re flash the stock #15 htc kernel, and set it at 998 and then flash the new kernel and now it's at 1.228 and stable, and not to mention my battery is amazing.
I keep mine at 1.19 as well, I had it higher at one time, but there's not that much
improvement in performance for me to risk my phone boot looping while i'm asleep at
night.
BTW, Myn's ROM is really good but i've always use KK #9 BFS for it overclocker at 1.19
with no issues, no reboots, only secks.

[Q] CM7 Battery Kernel?

I'm about to flash the CM7 RC1 ROM and would like to know, what would be the best kernel to flash with it? I looked into the Savage Kernel and the links are dead. Does Netarchy do a universal kernel that works with all roms?

I am running CM7 with the stock kernel and so far its great. Its fast and the battery life is nice for me. You can go into Settings > CyanogenmodSettings>Performance and change the cpu setting to batterysaver as well.
Man.. first off.. give one of the Nightlies a shot. RC1 was ok for me, but i found that nightly #6 was AMAZING...
Now on to your question... like mentioned above, the one that comes with CM7 is pretty awesome. However, i find that i like the Savage-zen a little more. I am using v1.0 with CFS and SBC and it is WOOOW!!!

yeah and then your phone acts like it is dying everytime you try and do anything.
I much prefer the savaged.zen governor that is based off the smartass governor.
I usually get 2 - 2/12 days with the savaged.zen kernal with SetCPU set on this governor. Though i am about to try out not using SetCPU and using the built in settings from CM and see if they work the same and save me having SetCPU running 24/7. BTW i am running a 1750 MaH battery, same size as stock battery.
Yea I don't use that setting just letting the op know. Let me know how your testing goes. I'm going to try setcpu for the first time.

Mind telling me what version of Savaged.Zen Kernel you are running to get this battery life? BFS or CFS?
Does anyone know if it is necessary to use profiles (ie. screen-off profile) if you're using the savagedzen governor?

You can. Alot of people say it helps alot but some say setcpu isn't helping. Try using the smartass governor and the screen off profile. That way it will underclock the CPU while screen is off. It won't hurt.

I've used other kernels with CM before and it works fine--if that's what your getting at...
As for battery stats, you should be able to do that from recovery. With clockwork mod, its under the 'advanced' menu.

If you are talking about this kernel

Yes that is made for GB roms like CM7. As for wiping battery stats, the debate is out as to whether or not that really does much. I have never noticed anything extra from doing it, but thats my experience with it, your experience could be different.

Yeah its good to put min at 128, helps the screen off profile and with battery life. The max you can make whatever you want, but once you go higher than 1.113GHz then you start going into unstable territory IMO.

Just note that a few users have reported issues with the 128 setting. I haven't experienced any problems getting text messages or missed calls and I'm using this kernel with the 128 setting but just keep it in mind if for some reason you find yourself missing texts and/or calls.

overclocking epic 4g

What is the safest speed you can overclock the samsung epic 4g? I am using the Tegrak overclock right now, and I found out the ultimate can run up to 2ghz.
That doesn't work. You have to be using a custom kernel to overclock the Epic and it is only safe up to 1.4ghz.

FYI, complete newb to this stuff, so please bear with me. Are you saying that it takes a custom kernal for the Tegrak Ulitimate, or the the version I have right now? With the Tegrak Overclock, I put it at 1.3 and it seems noticably faster.
Tegrak ultimate shouldn't work at all, and you're lucky it didn't royally screw up your phone without a kernel with support for overclocking. Look in development and select a custom kernel to fit your tastes then download either SetCPU or OverClock widget and use one of them to raise the clock speed on your phone. I recommend either of those because they are tried and tested methods.

Weird, on the android market it says that it (the standard Tegrak) works with stock kernels, custom kernels, and custom roms. I checked before installing it and I just double checked it now
For the record, it has been a while since I played with my phone, but it's kernel right now is 2.6.32.9

Another thought; I've had setcpu for a while, but didn't find much use for it as the phone is already operating at 1GHZ, which is the max SetCPU will allow the phone to work.
Because there isn't a kernel that support OverClocking installed.Once you have an overclock-compatible kernel installed SetCPU can raise the CPU speed.

Also, while tegrak may work I strongly recommend a custom kernel for added stability, along with overclock capabilities up to 1.4ghz (depending on if your phone can handle it) undervolting and other useful features.
Each phone is different. Some phones can handle 1.4ghz, others can't even handle 1.2ghz. You just have to test it out and see what your phone can handle.

Perhaps getting the new rom would accomplish two things at once??
