[Q] entire screen not being used... - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, im not sure if anyone else has encountered this problem, but ive had my desire hd for a few weeks now and its been working great. i rooted and flashed with hd revolution and again everything worked great.
now today i flashed an updated verison of that rom and when it had rebooted i noticed that the whole screen is suddenly not being used. a few milimeters on the right hand side and top of the screen and the image is slightly squashed to fit into that space.
i rebooted a few times and did a battery pull before thinking it must be a bug in the new build of that room and restored the room i backed up just before upgrading. but the problem is is there :/
not only that is present on all boot levels, so when your booting its there and in fastboot or recovery :/
could this be a hardware problem? has anyone else encountered this?
sorry if ive not explained this very well
thanks

must be a bug... what i suggest is do a full wipe and then flash a fresh rom...see if that solves ur problem doode

If you download the PD98IMG.zip for the downgrade thread and place on your SDcard, boot into bootloader (not recovery) your phone will restore itself to HTC stock firmware.

Hey,
does it happen while running normally or while booting up?
I guess it's important to know what ROM you are using ... maybe you got something wrong while flashing your phone ...

Probably a hardware issue, you need to send it to htc for repair , so go baxk to stock
sent from my htc desire running aurora v03
Flash back to a stock Rom first and see if it still reboots.

Basic case of motherboard problem. Go back to stock and send it to HTC for repairs and they will change your motherboard.

Apps (especially messaging) keep crashing!

This has been happening for a week or so now and I can't seem to work out why! It seems random that when I open the messaging app it just crashes, then sometimes that seems to cause a chain reaction and everything starts crashing meaning I have to reset it with the power button. The problem tends to persist unless I power down, wait and turn the phone back on. I didn't have the problem on the rom for a long time (Jellybean 4.1.2 for Endeavoru AOSP Build [JZO54K]) it just seemingly started happening at random. I tried a new rom with a new boot.img (aokp_endeavoru-ICJ-V3.4) which seemed to hold the problem off for a few hours but now its started on that one! I've also ruled out any apps because I made sure I didn't restore anything from my gmail account.
Any ideas?

Cheers for the quick reply man,

i did a full wipe always did i do something wrong i keep ending half screen flickering after a days or a week it keep bothering me........... once i get to the recovery its till there???????????????? help please
I'm having a very difficult time understanding your writing style and need to clarify.
So far as I understand, you originally had Venom ICS flashed from the latest 4ext. After a few days or a week, half of the screen began flickering. I believe you then rerooted the phone? Then you full wiped (so that's system, data, and cache). You then flashed JellyTime R29 from CWM 5.0.37. The problem showed back up after a few days or a week again. Is that accurate?
Have you flashed any other ROMs? Has the phone been dropped or taken any other damage? Have you tried flashing a stock ROM? Have you had any ROMs on which the problem didn't show up? Did you have this problem on stock before rooting?

Assuming you did a full wipe of system, data and cache I can only guess that it's a hardware problem. It persists across multiple ROMs, so that's my guess. See if anyone else has a suggestion.

Wait, you didn't say that before. Have you messed with the auto brightness settings before? Try turning it off; is it still a problem? When you say flickering do you mean the back light? Or graphical glitches? Or something else?

The persistence across ROMs (and I'm assuming that you haven't messed with settings) suggests that it's probably a graphics hardware issue. I vaguely remember someone else having this problem but can't remember who; I'll ask around. Unfortunately I'm not from the Philippines, so I don't know where you can get it repaired.
I think gizmoe knows the answer to this one.

You can private message him here on the forums. His username is Gizmoe.
You can also search for the answer in the dhd and inspire forums, to see if it shows up.
I'm guessing gizmoe may not know the answer since he would have surely posted something in this thread by now. I may be wrong about that as I may also be wrong about him knowing the answer.

[Q] Phone Reboot

Hi everyone,
I seem to be having a problem with my One X, for the past hour the phone has been rebooting at random moments and its really p*issing me off!!
Its running stock ICS and all of the apps are installed from the play store so i don't think i have anything on it which is messing with it.
Is there anything i can do to stop this or do i need to wait for the Jellybean update and hope it will fix it?
I also heard that it might have something to do with my HBOOT which is 1.12 and i am waiting for 3 to update it!
Try to do a factory reset from bootloader first back up all ur data as factor reset vll erase everything
If the prob still exist take it to nearest HTC care centre
If I hve helped you press the thanks button ...

[Q] Weird bootloop problem...

Last month, my gnex suddenly rebooted itself when texting, then it just stuck in bootloop forever.
I got it work again only after several times of factory reset and even pushing factory image.
I was using xenon + franco at that time.
However, 3 days ago it rebooted itself again when playing a music app, then the bootloop problem happened again. Somehow it could boot, but within a minute, it reboots and bootloops again.
i was using xylon + ak kernel this time.
I started to think if this is due to hardware problem.. and i took it to store yesterday after pushing the factory image to it. they said this is due to some incompatibility of some apps... (i dun understand why factory image could have this issue...) and did a recovery for me. My phone is reset back to 4.0.4 and it seemed working fine..
Then i pushed back the 4.2.1 factory image to it and still nothing happened. i started flashing back xylon and ak kernel to see if it works. It did run perfect for the whole night until this morning. When i was installing some ordinary apps, eg. air, skout, it rebooted itself again...
Flashing factory image of 4.2.1, 4.1.2, and even 4.0.4 all do not work.
it got past the google screen, and then to the bootanimation for a few seconds and it freezes and color seems weird, and then reboot again.
i have tried flashing through the toolkit and also through fastboot command..
does anyone know what is the problem causing this...
thanks in advance.
Anyone help please..

ok i have twrp and this tool kit
http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
but idk if the v10 is the same way
but i wiped the system and took the whole os off the phone than restored the factory image
idk if that option is in your recovery tho
or download the toolkit i linked go to fastboot flash the stock image in that toolkit root it (it will install the recovery i use also)
and restore you apps if it happens again wipe the system and do as i said.
i highly trust the toolkit i use it saved my ass alot. i couldnt get the v10 toolkit to work for me at all

But how to stress that this may be due to hardware problem? Since if I just describe the issue, I'm afraid they may think that this is software incompatibility again..

well, it is a common issue with the nexus devices without a sd slot(nexus s and the galaxy nexus).
after a clean flash of Maguro Overdrive milestone 1, the phone is running again...
restored some of the apps.
let's see how long can the phone stand before another round of bootloop...

Op the same thing is happening to me, i also was on xylon and it was running fine and it just started bootlooping. i tried everything toolkit, flashing factory image lie you did and nothing, the only one that works now is ics stock 4.0.4 .if i try any other rom stock or custom the bootloops starts again and it wont boot, it only boots on 4.0.4 .so pretty much the same thing happened to me .
