Why would you make *this* your first post on the XDA forums? Seriously, you created a *NEW* thread just to ask a question that nobody here would really know the answer to? A question that has already been asked a hundred times!
Please, for the love of all that is good and right in this world, think before you post. Search before you post. And count to ten and ask yourself, "Is this the right forum to ask this question?" before you post.

lmfao!!!!
according to the timeline that was leaked we should get it at the end of this month.
It could be a month, it could be 2 or it could be several. Just be happy you have a phone that works. It will be out when its out. if you want it so soon learn to do it your self and do it your self.
Wow I swear everyone thinks there a mod. It would be nice if someone just answered his question. Not everyone is on the computer day and night researching the **** out of there phone. I am really starting to hate these forums.

I spoke to my htc rep today and she said the original mytouch 3g will be getting the update to 2.2 at the end of this month and the mytouch 3g slide will be recieving the update sometime in august because of the htc sense they are having issues making it compatiable

Agreed. So one could do one of two things.
1) google: mytouch slide 3g android 2.2 release date, obtain answer.
2) locate android development forum, create a new account, confirm account, write message asking question, wait 6 hours, obtain answer.
But to be fair he asked when we think the slide will get it and not if we had any real information... so... July 27th at 2:45PM EDT.
Really?
What a waste of a thread wheres the moderator when you need em
Why does it take them so long to release an update? When new windows come out for millions of different pc's they have it working in days if it doesn't already work out the box. Here we have something smaller than even nlited windows xp,and it takes them months. Is it that hard to write drivers for these phones or they just taking they sweet time?If its that hard why not make it simple, make a program for android like nlite that slipstreams drivers and we good to go,is there a reason for all this compexity?
One more quistion does bios on these phones ever gets updates?

Main differences is, with PCs, the hardware is modular, and it is left up to the individual hardware components manufacturer's to make sure everything is up to date. The phone is an all in one. Add on top of that, the Sense UI that allows you to basically change the entire look and feel of the OS. So the core updates have to take all the variances in hardware into consideration.
Right Now the First Slide Froyo Rom is out now...but its really buggy

Why one word comes to mind TROll. Someone said 10 min I guess I missed that update Now I have to wait till "July 27th at 2:45PM EDT".
is all that really necessary? we have a rom, yes it needs work, but now we can let the flaming die and do some work. if someone asks a question that seems obvious, just dont respond. eventually they will either find the answer on their own, or they will give up. its annoying to watch this forum for updates and information when half the posts are to flame someone. someone wants to mention wasting threads, recover the thread and make it useful.
now that there is a rom to work with, does anyone want to work on making it usable while the experienced devs build something with some polish?
Sufficient number of threads on this topic already; closed.
Sorry if this has been addressed in another thread. I didn't see one dedicated to it and it's a hard thing to search.
So the update is available again today, Sunday 8/1. Does anyone know if it's still the 3.26.651.3 release? I installed one of the rooted ROMs and just wanted to know if I need to worry about updating again (to a newer rooted ROM) due to a newer official version.
Thanks!
So, official OTA is live? This is new.

Also, running one of the current ROMs means that you should plan to update. All of them have some kinks. They're very fresh.

No updates available for my phone using the settings..system updates (tho I am on the leaked 2.2)
I think he's referring to sprints post about froyo being available the week of 8/1.
Htc said the current froyo wasn't final so yes you will need to update again.

I did a manual HTC software update on my wife's unrooted Evo at about 8PM (pacific) and got a message saying an update was available.
I haven't installed it, but I did download it. Can anyone tell me where it's saved to?
Dare yea to take the update then tell us if you are still rooted.

Wait. So you installed the unrooted update, then got a notification that an update is ready on the same phone? Should be safe, just make sure the version numbers are different.
EDIT: Think you can copy it off the phone and post it somewhere?

No, sorry for the confusion. I have two phones; my rooted Evo and my wife's unrooted Evo. I installed the rooted ROM on my phone. I was curious on Sunday to see if the "official" update was available for manual updaters, as some sources had suggested, so I did a manual HTC software update on my wife's stock 2.1 unrooted phone. I was offered an update for the new 3.whatever/1.47whatever update (I don't have it in front of me)
I'd be happy to upload it, but I'm not sure where's it's stored. It didn't seem to be in the SD card's root, or under downloads. does anyone know where it would be?
HTC's twitter had something to say about an hour ago:
http://twitter.com/HTC
Why "trolling?"
I'd really like to know why someone tagged this with "trolling." What did I do that you'd call me a troll? All I did was ask a simple question about the update I got on my phone on Sunday.
I have to say, while not the most unfriendly place I've ever visited, it's pretty ****ing close. You guys are constantly at each other's throats and constantly insulting each other. I've never seen the word "troll" used as much as I have here. I've never seen so much ridicule and flaming over nothing.
Some people are actually pissed off (and actually insulting people!) because some other users dared say they weren't impressed with Froyo. Are you ****ing serious? Really? That bothers you? Holy ****; you really need to get a life. Others were actually put off by the idea of starting an "off-topic" thread in the Evo group! Talk about not having enough to worry about! I've seen a poster called a fanboy and a troll because he simply mentioned CM6. It seems like everyone who dares make a positive statement about a ROM is automatically a fanboy troll.
It seems like anytime a person other than a developer starts a thread, someone has to say something insulting about the user or impinge their motive behind starting it. I fully expected someone to make a negative comment concerning me starting this thread -- I just didn't realize you'd be such a ***** that you'd have to hide behind tagging it.
The developers seem like decent people, but a lot of you hangers-on are just a bunch of immature, self-important, assholes who seem to feel a need to insult others and their choices in order to feel better about yourself and the choices you've made.
I'm sure this will be considered trolling, but since everything anyone does is labeled as such, it's sort of lost its meaning
We used to have a rule that the first person to bring up Hitler, Nazis, or the 3rd Reich in an argument automatically lost -- it's a mark of a weak intellect and a dearth of ideas. I think the same needs to be said about you idiots who trot out "troll" on every thread. I've been here a month and it's already gotten old.
New people are not going to stick around if you treat them like this.

that pretty much nails this forum
if you check for updates again can you right down, and post here he name of the update they list?
i do not recall if it gives a file name or revision number.
otherwise you might have to do it on your phone and then use root explorer or something to find the file.
i do not know if it is downloaded as "update.zip" or not.
you can also offer to upload it to one of the many hosting sites that are used here and one of the dev's cna look at it to see if its different than the one from last week.
Unrooted Stock 2.1 EVO here, there are no new updates available.
Allow me to end this discussion with an official source.
Sprint: "Sprint is the first wireless carrier to bring Android 2.2 to customers using the award-winning HTC EVO™ 4G beginning Tuesday, Aug. 3"

OK asswipe. Here is a picture of my wife's evo asking to do an update with your post in the background to show it's today. Notice the picture timestamp and phone time are the same (today at 9:15pm Pacific) and that my post was about eight minutes later. I don't seem to be able to post a pic or a link, so I put it up at ouiswing.com/photo4asswipe.jpg.
I'm not spreading rumors. I don't know what this update is and I'm trying to find out. Stop being a ****. Not everyone is playing games like you.
What is wrong with you people? And you made your point just by being the most annoying ass in the thread -- the font was overkill. But then moderation isn't something you would appear to understand -- it's just "I disagree! BASH!" with you.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I thought this was a place for learning, but I don't understand how anyone can learn something when they obviously feel they know everything already.
All I want to know is: how do I find out if this is the same version as the one that came out Thursday or Friday, which I believe was 3.26.651.3? I tried to find it on the SD card, but I can't.

hey guys i am sorry if this sounds like a rant and please dont hang me for this... but here i go....whats going on with our development status for our EPIC's....what i mean is like why is it taking so long for like new roms to come out i havent had my epic for about a month cause i shattered my screen and its being fixed but i still come back on here trying to keep up on anything new but nothing chages....like for me to be hell yeah i am trying that out on my epic as soon as i get it lol...like for example BONSAI rom ive been a fan of it all and it has not been updated in a month and half....i am sorry if this sounds ungrateful but can some one shine some light on the subject for me please??
What for you mean bonsai hasn't been upgraded in a month and a half. You must not follow that closely. I'm on bonsai 4.0.0 and have so for a week. Ec05 just dropped so everyone is updating their roms. Please pay more attention before you rant. You just might not know what you are talking about. Besides these developers do this for FREE. IF you dont like having updates every week make a rom yourself and then you'll realize how time consuming it is.

Good Lord. The bonsai ec05 was out before even released it publicly. I'm struggling with too much updates and flashing ever other week. Zzzzzz. I'm forcing myself to just chill out on old bonsai 3.0.1 cause I don't keep up with the rat race. Fun times on epic.

I'm not sure how you can make tha statement if you spend any time on these forums. It is constant updates, and if you look in the develop's forums nearly every one of the more popular ROM's has been updated since 3/18. What are you expecting a release everyday?
Me thinks you should make your own ROM and release daily.
Then I must ask are you looking for releases just for the sake of a release? If there is nothing wrong then what do you have to improve? While I am anxiously waiting SRF 1.1 because it is offering many improvements, at the same time my phone is blazing fast with the best battery life I have had..

And for the record, my feelings weren't hurt, I'm not a developer.
I recently rooted my g2 and installed ginger villain 1.5 onto it, now I want to upgrade to 2.0 but cant. Can any1 help me out.

1.5 is definitely the latest build on the G2, trust me I've been waiting for 2.0 for like a month now. If your looking for the stock gingerbread feel, like GV1.5, Id recommend xboarder56's rom here:

its fast, its up-to-date, and its stable.
The post clearly says 2.0 is in the works. And the title of thread is 1.5 and download is for 1.5. They would update thread title to 2.0 if it was ready

Everybody talks about this rom killing batteries(in general not gv in particular) and this rom is great on batteries, in my honest opinion my battery is the same no matter what rom I use.
The best way to answer you own question is to try different roms and see which one you like.
Oh and don't buy that crap about radios helping batteries and don't try and flash a new one unless your current radio is jacked(which it shouldn't be)
Cheers

For now im on xboarders rom, so far it seems good. Gonna give it a run for a couple days and see how things go
Post in the dev threads yet because I'm new.Smack in my face. I been here for on and off for years and now i register and cant post with devs until I have 10 post....LAME
Anyways Im going to give Holy grail Rom a try. i was using Jelly Bomb but it seems bloated to me and all that blue is kinda of unnecessary. It may the best for 12 year old kids but not me, either way it is a awesome rom
I'm kind of in the same boat. I've been trolling forever and now have an issue updating to the latest ROMs and can't actually post in the proper place until I make 10 posts about things I don't care about.
Thanks for giving me a reason to post!
In case anyone can answer my question before I get to 10 posts....I've been using Jelly Bomb for some time now and have never had any problems installing the latest ROM. However when I try to install the latest 14.0 version I get stuck on the Samsung boot screen. I cleared everything, reset everything. Only thing I can do is get back in and restore my backup. I tried a different ROM with the newest additions (multiview and whatnot) and the same thing happened. Any thoughts on why I can't get my phone to load ROMs with the new stuff?
Thanks!
Humm I dont know about that one. hopefully someone else can help

Did you do a clean install and if so what/how did you do it. Did you check the md5 sum? How did you download the ROM? On your phone? On a computer then transfer it over etc. The more info the better.

I'm thinking bad dl
To the OP, we all had to go through it and best thing to do if you don't like a devs work is to not use it, plus you can always look for a theme if colors an issue, no need to bash any devs, they bust arse so we can use their work.....just saying :good:
10 post rule is to protect developers from spammers and new members who do not know the proper place or what to post.
Specifically that now questions are being asked here in General after the initial "gripe."
So this is being moved to Q&A where ALL questions should go, not a general thread to make your 10 posts to hound a dev
You will get quicker and more considerate answers in Q&A, especially if you did not search the ROM thread before asking
Thank you

I'm just gonna go ahead and call BS on those whiners who are stuck with <10 posts. I'm qualified to do so since I was recently one of them. The truth is if you are not at least somewhat interested in phone tech, (even if it's just for your model of phone), you should not be rooting and romming. I say that because if you want root or a custom rom on your phone, you should at the very least, have spent time reading about it. Not for 15 minutes or 1/2 hour but several hours. If you realize while reading about it, that the subject matter just can't hold your attention, then you probably shouldn't be playing around with your phones software in the first place, and you definitely shouldn't be rooting your phone . Before rooting and installing a rom, you should have a pretty good idea why you want a rooted phone and custom rom in the first place, and "just because" doesn't cut it. If you want to do it just because you can, good luck with that.
But if you're really interested in the tech stuff about your phone, then you'll probably spend some free time perusing these pages and you should have no problem finding 10 things to either ask a question about, or offer a helpful comment or advice to someone needing it.
I actually think its fair, the 10 post rule.. i even felt bad that ive been using these forum for so many years and i dont even have 10 posts under my name. I necer really needed to because i always found what im looking for in past threads but when i wanted to thank a dev for his great work, i couldnt post :/
Anyway were you able to download the new roms? Ive read that people often have problems depending on the method used to download the rom and flashing it.. also you can try to do the wiping process after you install the rom also..hope you get to enjoy these new features soon pal.
