[Q] Ginger villain - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently rooted my g2 and installed ginger villain 1.5 onto it, now I want to upgrade to 2.0 but cant. Can any1 help me out.

The latest GV build is 1.5. If you're looking for a better and faster CM-based ROM, I recommend PyroMod.

Are you sure 1.5 is the latest, because the thread says its upto 2.1

1.5 is definitely the latest build on the G2, trust me I've been waiting for 2.0 for like a month now. If your looking for the stock gingerbread feel, like GV1.5, Id recommend xboarder56's rom here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991254
its fast, its up-to-date, and its stable.

The post clearly says 2.0 is in the works. And the title of thread is 1.5 and download is for 1.5. They would update thread title to 2.0 if it was ready

Everybody talks about this rom killing batteries(in general not gv in particular) and this rom is great on batteries, in my honest opinion my battery is the same no matter what rom I use.
The best way to answer you own question is to try different roms and see which one you like.
Oh and don't buy that crap about radios helping batteries and don't try and flash a new one unless your current radio is jacked(which it shouldn't be)
Cheers

For now im on xboarders rom, so far it seems good. Gonna give it a run for a couple days and see how things go

HTC is working on it. Sense is closed-source, so there's nothing the community can do to port it.
The Nexus One is the only device that has an 'official' release of Froyo, and no device has Froyo and Sense... who is "everybody else"?

Wow, i just love some of the smug nasty sounding answers some people give out, if you fell a post is beyond you and you vast knowledge in anyway or you feel that it has been asked or you feel the OP does not know what they are talking about. All you have to do is click the back button and post no answer at all, geez.

Yeah I like the know it all response but he obviously isn't as smart as he thought or hasn't been paying attention. I only opened this thread because I couldn't believe no one else hadn't mention it already. I've been following this for days.
I hear bluetooth does not work and there are graphical glitches.
Is it worth porting now?
I would wait till those 2 are fixed first.
This won't be hard to port to the Dinc. At all. Should be only a matter of time.

Sorry, I hadn't seen the thread that michaelnhf linked. Without it, the original post looked like just another "I wantz teh Froyo 'n Sense, when will that b out?" post, which I'm sure we're all sick of seeing.

I'm actually surprised people aren't porting more of the desire roms and themes over. I've been to their forums they've got some quality stuff over there. The desire and inc are basically the same phone.. I'm no dev but sheesh where are the roms?! Like real roms not " I removed sense apps and widgets roms." Koush seems to be busy with other things too I hope things pick up soon.
Yea looks like we might have picked the wrong phone for custom roms and such haha

Mmmhmm...Humble pie.
Love the HTC Incredible but I'm leaning towards absolutely hating the Sense UI, excluding the clock/weather widget.
I cannot find a single mobile data widget that *works* other than the HTC one that ships with the phone. That is the only reason I'm using sense...although I don't 'dislike' it.
I can get FroYo and Sense to boot on my phone, but that is the easy part. None of the touch keys work and it reboot randomly. It also says that I have no signal, but I can browse the web.
I do like the new widgets.
What are the new widgets?
The two widgets that caught my eye was the new Mail widget. It looks more like our current calander widget. There is also a FM radio widget. Of course, there is also that News widget that some people love.

[Q] Will this support Android 3.0?

I read somewhere earlier, that because the Desire Z is only 800MHz it won't support Android 3.0
However, I've seen people OC it to 1.8GHz, so surely it should support it (at least a port)?
I played with the phone today and I love it. If I can get confirmation on this I'll probably order it tonight
The G2 is as fast or better yet faster then nearly all the current Android phones. So in other words, yes, it will be getting Gingerbread.
Officially who knows when (T-Mobile has to issue the update) but unofficially (XDA Developers) you can expect to see it within days or weeks after the Gingerbread source has been released by Google.
Also, you posted this in the wrong section
i thought gingerbread was 2.3
3.0 is honeycomb
The 1GHz thing was a myth and was debunked a while ago. So yes we will be getting it. (Wrong section btw)

This has been (acidly) discussed before

I might be wrong but, if you're even on XDA in the first place, why worry about official updates? If it's out there, someone will find a way to make a G2 ROM. (Um, speaking of Android only. I'm not sensing a Motoblur port anytime soon.)

ha,... your right man.
OP,....
If you are asking about 2.3 Gingerbread, then read http://www.unwiredview.com/2010/07/...details-post-some-corrections-clarifications/
.... We will be getting 2.3, officially or unofficially, who knows.
If you did mean 3.0 Honeycomb, then no-one knows as there are zero details to base any speculation on. Fingers crossed though.
EDIT..... Thread reported to be moved.
I can almost guarantee you that we will get both.
XDA and or Open Source Android Developers {whatever you call your self sry } here and there, do not take NO for an answer.
Look at the G1, its gotten just about every rom....official and unofficial.
Even if it isnt snappy (oh that slow ass G1!!!) lol, it WILL make it to the G2.
Thanks for the replies everyone (and sorry about posting in the wrong section, it was between this and the dev section)
I said 3.0, but it must have been 2.3 as there isn't much about 3.0 and yeah I'm fully aware that we WILL definitely get it thanks to the great modders out there, I just didn't want to be stuck with old hardware
Anyway, I read in a link that gtrab posted, the 800MHz 2nd generation Snapdragon is better than the 1GHz first generation, and also has a seperate GPU so should be nothing to worry about, right?

The Sense Gingerbread ROM for the Vision has not been released yet by HTC (or leaked). They have promised by end of Q2, so that is end of June or earlier (supposedly).
For the "main" version of Virtuous, I understand that rmk40's intent is to only build upon stable ROMs, made specifically for our hardware, and not ports from other phones. So the "proper" Virtuous is stuck on Froyo, until HTC releases the GB Sense ROM for our phone.
rkm40 has diverged from this a bit, in that he is now offering sort of a side project, called Virtuous Fusion, which is built upon the leaked HTC Kingdom and Rider ROMs. This has not only Gingerbread, but also Sense 3.0. Everything works fine on this ROM (WiFi, camera, Bluetooth, etc.). But being a port, there are some minor graphical glitches. Also, the 3.0 Sense launcher takes up most of the Vision's memory. So going to other applications often kicks the launcher out of memory, and it has to restart every time you go to the homescreen, which is pretty annoying. The reason for this is that 3.0 is not made for our hardware, and if I understand correctly, we are never going to get Sense 3.0 for the main reason of lack of memory.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067371
Also if you look around you can find the Virtuous 2.0 alpha, which was based on the leaked Test rom for the Dz. Combined with the overclock kernal now available, its good and I cannot remember any issues with it.
I did use it for a bit, but the Lock Screen from Sense 3 is just too cool to be without now......

Nice! I didn't know the test ROM was leaked, and that rmk40 is already working on it. I'll personally wait until its out of alpha. But it seems that we might be seeing a somewhat finished product pretty soon!

Instead of asking other people to do your leg work, you could spend an hour reading through the threads to see which one suits you best. Each ROM has its quirks, features, and customizations depending on the dev.
That said, I agree with everyone else. Nils' is my personal favorite. Runs smooth, no issues that I can find, and it's very appealing visually.

It's unlikely there will be an update. OVOrene moved on. Though apparently he got another DINC so, who knows - maybe there will be an update. I wouldn't hold my breath.

[Q] which ROM are you using

hi to everyone,
i'm not new to XDA (i'm nexus s user), but i'm new to desire section
my friend need to upgrade his desire to gingerbread 2.3, possibly with Sense UI
like you know, this is possible only with a custom ROM. so the question is:
Which ROM (possibly with Sense) is the best today (11-04-12) ???
imho best is:
1-stable
2-without bugs
3-fast
thanks

The reason you are getting all these insults is because you say that you are not new to xda yet you act like you are. It's not that you posted on the wrong section, it's because you asked a very common question that could have been answered by you doing a search query.
Or you could just say in one sentence which you think is the best sense rom. Jeezzz i dont understand why you take the effort to complain but cant answer a simple question.
In my opinion, cooldroid v3 is the best sense rom for the htc desire. Its a sens 2.1 based rom, which makes it very fast
yes, specify what stable mean perhaps is too much, but the main reason because i ask you is that with google and search function i've found only old information ......
if my previous question make your brain loop, just tell me which ROM are you using ..... ok ?

your question it's like "what's the best color?", we can't answer this, just try some roms and find it urself, in my opinion, all sense roms are stable, 3.5 doesn't match too fine as we want, but's usable anyway... ginger + 2.1 it's more fastest but idk...

development is still pretty active, despite the desire being the best part of 2 years old, so many of the roms there fulfill all your requirements, therefore in your honest opinion, nearly all are the best
even if you get many more replies from other users about what ROM they are using, it's only from users who can be bothered to post here, whereas most post in the rom threads themselves. experiences are often conflicting. one user's experience (AMAZING) with a rom can be completely different (LAGGGGGYYYY BUGGGYYYY) from another, which will only confuse you further. why? many combinations of apps/sync/launcher/kernel/hardware. most importantly, we all use the phone differently...
and in the time that it takes for people to post here and argue over which is AWESOME ROCK SOLID STABLE, NO BUGS, SOOO FAST and DEFINITELY THE BEST ROM EVER!!!!!11 you could have formed your own opinion by reading a snapshot of the threads, even install a couple and try them out, which is definitely the 'best' way of discovery.
which hopefully gives some further insight as to why best rom threads are pretty pointless...
there is no best ROM, only the best ROM for your needs (or your friend's needs in this case)
good luck, i hope you find will the best one, i'm still looking
Thanks. Soon I'll flash one off them and tell you which....

yeah cause I had tons of overheating, and resets with the other roms, especially when on 3G, or GPS... which was annoying... as for this one, I'm absolutely satisfied with
no overheating
good CPU clock
nice apps
lots of room on internal storage
those are perfect values for me, though someone else may have a different opinion

For me it's Sandvold's ICS for Desire.
It has great support and works like a charm for the most part.
It has one or two major and some minor issues but that is to be expected it is still a beta mind you.
Overall its the best rom for my tastes. Its still under development and updates are released as much as twice a week. The development team and specifically Sandvold is always on the case solving issues and helping where he can.
