[Q] ACS 1.1.0 on EB13 Modem? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can this ROM be flashed on EB13 modem? If yes, can eco5 themes be flashed on top of that?

It's not recommended, just update the Modem through ODIN.

Should I use this instead of using odin?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012384
See, my problem is, I used this. Then put the new ROM on then matted blue theme, then helix boot and shutdown. With proper wipes and reboots in between but my pphone seems to run so sluggish. Just moving through screens and opening icons, everything is really laggy. ANy help?

I recommend just using ODIN to flash only the Modem, it avoids weird issues like what you're describing. It's not difficult at all and takes less then 3 minutes.

Can you give me a file and instructions on how to do this through odin?

You need to learn to search so you aren't dependent on people on here.
But for now here's a link to a video on how to use ODIN:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ2g6J1JgjU
And the modem:
http://k0nane.info/rom/acs-ec05-modem.tar

DO I need a pit file too?

Not to flash just the modem.

Ok just so I am clear. I am on eb13 ext 4 stock right now. I just put the modem tar in pda or phone? With it checked or unchecked? And does anything else need to be check on odin? And no pit file. I just want to make sure I get this right.

Modem goes in phone. Be sure to uncheck the "F. Reset Time" box.

If you have any reception problems later on the EC05 modem, it is safe to flash back to the EB13 modem. A TAR has been posted in the thread.

[help] airplane mode on - off continuously

hello,
i first rooted the epic 4g eclair with one click root and then i rooted it to clockwork 3.0.0.5. after that i installed the new viperrom, but in the rom, the airplane mode keeps turning ON and OFF.
i have tried different roms like moonlight, etc. but the same problem.
is there a way to solve this problem ??
is there a way to go back to rfs from ext4 ??
please help
rahul
first, we gotta figure out what the problem is. my guess is you're not on the DK28 modem.
go to settings > about phone and post what it says for Baseband version. The last 4 letters should be DK28. if its not, you'll have to check development for posts on how to get the DK28 modem, i think you can flash it by itself in ODIN or there might even be an update.zip for just the modem now, not sure.
once you do that, i'd reflash the ROM, then see where you're at. if you already have the DK28 modem, you might want to either re-ODIN the whole DK28 rel.tar or maybe even go back to DI18, your call.
thanks. i finally managed to flash back to DI18 using odin. that was a relif. thans again
You probably just needed to do a fresh flash before you flashed froyo did you odin the modem and pit file? That's not airplane mode flashing on and off it was just your phone not able to get a signal from the tower proper.

Having issues updating to dk28?

Ok so i flashed the dk28 modem via the flashable zip in clockwork and says successful then i tried flashing noobnls odex 2.2 rom and says it completes then i reboot then it goes to the samsung screen then reboots from there to the samsung screen to stock recovery, im still able to get in clock work and im flashing stock 2.1 rom back now and it worked.
Any ideas what can be causing this to hapen while trying to flash this?
Also without odin how can i get back to d118 modem? i tried the flashable zip that firon made but doesnt seem to work. i get an error 7 or something and im stuck with dk28?
I didn't even know they had a flashable modem.zip for Clockwork.
Did you try just using Odin?

Well it flashed fine and when i reboot my phone to d118 stock zip, it says i have dk28 baseband version.
When i flashed the rom it flashed like it should of and then i reboot sat at the samsung screen a couple of seconds then it rebooted again to samsung screen then stock purple recovery.
i think im going to do a bunch a wipes odin back to d118 stock complete, however i dont know what is the best to use to save all my apps and settings and what not?
Anyone have the best suggestion?
Is it possible just to flash the d118 modem back via odin? rather then everything?

Yes just open up the full di18 tar file and pull the modem file out. Then you use that with the pit file to flash to in Odin. Why don't you just use Odin to flash the dk28 rom instead of the update.zip? Using that method caused to many problems cause it wasn't a fresh install. I know you want something to backup all your apps but it's always better to do a fresh install. You can always to do a NAND backup and then do an advanced restore of data.

Ok I will do that, i was reading up on odin and btw how do i open the tar file when its an md5 file do i change the extension to tar and open it with winrar?
update ok that worked, now in odin do i put the modem in the phone section cause the pda section wont take the bin file.
Ok so i got the modem.bin out of the tar file, do i put that in the phone section in odin and that will take my modem back to d118 and thats all odin will do if i just put the modem there and the pit file? It will just flash the modem right?

Upgrading from Quantom Rom 1.2 on DK05 ... which way to go?

Alright, I've had Quantum Rom 1.2 on my epic for a while on 2.2. Now, I know there's the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and the issues of EB13, but I feel I'm ready to upgrade. I'd like a working GPs and less battery consumption (and maybe overclocking? Are there any custom EB13 roms that do that)
Question is, what's the best way to go about upgrading. I'd very much like to do an update.zip in Clockwork Recovery, as I've lost my usb data transfer cable (using cheap wall charger now) so I'm not keen to use Odin or the likes. I'm not really familiar with roms, kernels, and modems and the likes, but I have a general idea what I'm doing. Again, some kind of Clockwork upgrade would be the best
Thanks!

Well, first things first, your gonna have to get a data cable, and use odin as you will need the EB13 modem. The only way to get it is either to be on DI18 and use the update.zip (you would have to odin back to it) or use odin to flash either just the EB13 modem.bin or full .tar file.
Secondly, you will need to decide if you want to convert to the EXT4 file system or not, in which case you would want CWM 3.0.0.6 instead of just 2.5.1.0. If you dont want to use the EXT4 file system, then there aren't a whole lot of choices at the moment, as Syndicate, Bonsai, midNIGHT, and Frankenstein only provide for EXT4, although Viper still looks like it will do RFS (but hasn't been updated since DK28). I personally am patiently waiting to try out CM7 when it gets finished (Gingerbread CyanogenMod)
If you decide against any of the above roms, and stick with a stock EB13, you can still flash a modified kernal and overclock your phone to 1.2GHz, along with having additional fixes baked into the kernal.
Now that we have EC05, what should I do different with this compared to EB13, in laymans terms? I'm still on DK05

Same thing, just read through my previous response and replace EB13 with EC05.
Get yourself a usb cable because you will need to use Odin (keen or not)...
a) Odin w/ the full DI18 .tar file and use the update.zip (when it becomes available)
b) Odin w/ the full EB13 .tar file and use the update.zip (when it becomes available)
c) Odin w/ the EC05 modem.bin and use clockwork to flash an EC05 rom

how come roms dont like me?

i got a new epic from assurion so it had nothing on it so i odined el30 flashed su odined acclaim and that was it then i put A rom on top of it ( the peoples rom ) and as usual it lags and doesn't open up things for up to a minute . i have always had problems with roms. what can i be doing wrong? are these the correct steps? are they incompatibility issues? or is el30 not stable yet. any help woiuld be appreciated. i really like using your masterpieces but i seem to have issues wit all of them, so clearly its me. thanks
If you don't like aosp but want stock rooted, Odin el30 ( victory pit in pit section, el30 .tar in PDA section, only have auto reboot checked), then OTA to fc09 then Odin cwm 5.x ( pit in pit section, cwm .tar in PDA section, leave everything unchecked), pull battery when Odin finishes, boot cwm, flash su.zip, boot fc09, use es file explorer(free in play store) launch es, navigate to settings> check use root explorer, grant su, check mount /system, delete /system/etc/ recovery-install.sh (or something like that to disable the script from reinstalling the stock recovery.) , Odin cwm again and your good.
Edit: or an easier way would be to Odin cwm once and flash this lol http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24419155

Also download Spare Parts and set Window and Transition Animations to FAST. You would be surprised at the difference that makes. You will lose CRT off but with that speed, who cares...LOL.
ok this was a bit much for me. i dont need stock rom i dont care about anything. i just thought i had to odin to start fresh . all id like is whatever it takes to get peoples rom (for instance) to work on my phone. btw, i can not even get the screen to turn back on now without pulling the battery. i can follow the directions but i was hoping for something alittle more simple. if thats not possible i will try to figure out those directions
Unfortunately Samsung's Gingerbread update killed the one click root option so Odin is needed to at least put on a custom recovery and then install a prerooted ROM.

ok i apologize i was half alseep when i read the first reply, so i opted for the second option and odined \cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.tar.md5
i also have a cwm 3.1.0.1
should i have used that? i usually do the acclaim in odin but i just odined the cwm but when i went into recovery of course the deoxed fc09 didnt work because it wasnt rooted but the su.zip doesn't show up on my sd card in recovery. it always does when i odin acclaim. what am i doing wrong?
When you odin cwm 5, uncheck reboot. Odin will complete but your phone will still have the triangle showing. Disconnect the cable, pop battery out and in, 3 finger salute into cwm5 and flash The People's Rom. That will put you on MTD. Then if you don't like that you can flash the deodexed FC09 from there.

Listen, I think most of the devs in this community work really hard to put out some great ROMS. The insight they have given me is much appreciated. But now that I've said that, here is my answer to your original question.
I have yet to use a ROM that is as reliable as stock ROMs. If you read the threads about each ROM you will see lots of comments like:
"Wow, this ROM is awesome. It's absolutely perfect.....also, sometimes my speaker doesn't work, and the system panel FCs all the time, but THIS ROM is PERFECT! Thanks".
See my point? People get religiously attached to their favorite ROMs and easily ignore the problems to avoid admitting that they aren't using the hot sh*t.
I've tried lots of ROMs, but I always end up going back to a lightly modified stock ROM because for me reliability is the number one item with me. I have yet to find one dev's ROM that doesn't have a fatal flaw, IMHO.

[Q] Problems flashing FE22 modem

I have been attempting to flash this modem with no luck the past couple of days. I am on AOKP, so I have been using Mobile Odin to flash back to EL26 with CWM to flash the modem zip. Every time I try this, it hangs on flash for a LONG time, and eventually errors out. I then tried to Mobile Odin the modem.bin I pulled from the same zip and it gave no error, but didnt change anything.
Has anybody else had this problem? Is the zip on the official modem thread bad? If anyone has any tips for upgrading to FE22, I would appreciate it. I try to avoid desktop Odin as much as possible, so if you have a "mobile" solution, it would be best for me.
Thanks!

If you want to try by other than CWM you'll need to use the desktop ODIN as mobile can't support CDMA modem updates (at least based on previous posts.)
Redownload the modem.zip. it sounds like a bad download. Its happened to me before.

I've re-downloaded a couple of times and got the same thing, that's why I was wondering if the actual file was bad on the site. I guess I'll have to go the Odin route. I run nothing but linux though, so it's a pain for me to setup a windows machine to work from for 5 minutes. I've read bad reviews of the FF02 modem, but maybe I'll give that one a try anyway through CWM first.
Thanks guys.
I've never been able to flash a modem with mobile odin. Always regular odin.
