Help! Rooting Custom Android Tablet. - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi I have a custom android tablet i am testing that was made for a company. I want to install 2.2 or 2.3 on it. The tablet says it has Froyo 2.2 but the home screen doesn't scroll like on any android device and a few things don't work on it. Here are the specs:
Android 2.2 Froyo Linux 2.6.31
Cortex-A8 1GHZ
512 M DDR2 667mhz
NAND Flash 2GB
Flash, Gravity sensor, Wifi, and more
I was looking at this rom and wondering if it would work the same way even though its not a Galaxy tab. Cant post links yet but its the SHIFTPDA custom rom.
Thanks.

Help with firmware!
Hello:
I have the same android tablet as you have. Somehow, my internal sd card has been damaged and there is no firmware support anywhere for this tablet. I can replace the sd card, but I need the firmware and am looking everywhere but did not find.
Can you copy your folders in one zip or if you know a place where i can get the firmware, please reply.
Your help is highly appreciated.
Thanks.

When the next version of Android is released....

Assuming we have root access by then (I really hope we do) will you be waiting for HTC to release the Sense version of it or are you going to upgrade to stock Android in the meantime?

after having experienced android being, modded by htc and then buggered by orange, i'm hoping we can root the desire as i'd like to go straight to a pure android o/s

same here i hate what orange has done to the rom it descusts me since this is my first branded handset for about 5 years now and i am used to the generic version got very good and the flashing process on winmo now stuck on android v.confusing.
Don't hold your breath Read this:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...s-in-may-require-froyo-we-have-sign-up-links/
If this is true ... FroYo (the next Android OS build iteration) will be next month together with Flash 10.1.
Then we can pray every night to have root access + write permission to the system partition !
I really hope we do have root access. Not having proper flash is really bugging me.
Either we get root or HTC Have a sense version very quick after the FroYo release.
Doesn't the HTC Evo 4g have froyo? Would be ported over.

The 2.1 update for the Hero still hasn't been released despite 2.1 having been released a good while ago.
But then again, the EVO 4G and the Desire have the exact same level of processing power so I don't see why HTC would delay the update in any way.
Let's hope HTC don't let us down.
whats the problem with the Flash thats on the desire? I have not had any non-loading flash sites at all yet

It gets bogged down by heavy sites. I want flash to work just aswell as it does on my desktop.
New flash version will most probably have hardware acceleration, and all the functions flash 10.1 has on the desktop.
And -hopefully- it will be a fully optimized version of Flash. So it's actually doable on a mobile device. But I guess that is the only way for it to be succesful.
And just to be prepared, I'm programming all my new flash applications to be able to run on mobile devices (min resolution of 800x480). I'm going openscreen project, multiplatform, multi os, multi mobile devices!
If the rumors about the change in how the OS will update then I cannot see too much trouble sorting out Sense for it as it will only be compatibility checks with the core components and allow for any new core features.
Plus going by @gogol's post there will be a lot of pressure on HTC to release Sense quick smart for it with full Flash support. For all we know HTC may already be working on it just because we don't know whats coming with Froyo doesn't mean the companies haven't got a pre-release ROM

They more than likely do as they are releasing the EVO 4G with FroYo in about 2-3 weeks.
I'm guessing that Android 2.2 will be released within the next 2 - 2 1/2 weeks and that HTC will either release the Sense version of 2.2 at the same time or at the very very latest at the same time as the EVO.
Forgive my ignorance but will htc upgrade the android os on the desire to froyo when it is released or are we stuck with eclair unless we root the device?

[Q] [Help]My Desire Hd Can't root by visionary+

I bought a Desire HD from H.K. The rom is RUU_Ace_HTC_Asia_WWE_1.32.707.6.
I tried to cook the rom become Taiwanese rom step by step.
Using visionary to temproot ===>prmeroot===> s-off
Everything is fine.
However,I cook the wrong rom RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3.
I think it becomes UK rom.
Now, I want to do the same step to cook my DHD to be Taiwanese rom again but it doesn't work.
When I use Visionary to do temproot, it takes too long time.
The screen comes black and hard to use.
I did't Visionary several times, however it still doesn't work.
Can any one help me. please.
So I guess your phone is 1.72 firmware now?
Bad luck you can't root it.
Yes, I am 1.72 now.
so, Does it mean there are no way to root now?
There are no way to root now. U must wait for the solution.
It bewilders me how people manage to read the threads on how to root their phones, but never manage with the threads that tell them not to flash the 1.72 ROM's. I fail to understand how they miss the various threads.
I can imagine what a disaster it is to overlook this.
So if they officially release the android 2.2.1 update for my region and I update to it, it will also update the software to the 1.72 ROM.
Does this mean I will not be able to root (and therefore flash) to other ROM until someone here figures out a way to break it?

When it comes do not install it. Better to use a custom rom which is based off of it. Such as the one in my sig. Then you get the best of both worlds - rooted Android 2.2.1.

I just wonder if someone can help me to fix this trouble.
Maybe this is a chance to help me improve my English.

got it! but is it worth upgrading to the 2.2.1 update? Any performance gains? I'm not sure about what rom should I be on for fastest speed, stability with the sense ui?

Difficult to say....it should have some better performance and the camera should work a bit better.
however, in my case, when recording in HD I still have some lags sometimes (although they seem to be less in both length and frequency).
As far as normal performance, I was running a OC kernel which I cannot use now anymore, so performance will not be noticeably better (might even be a bit less).
as Dr.m0x said: get a custom rom with 1.72 integrated...works fine and you keep root
Any news? Or nothing yet ? So no rooted phone for those who updated 2.2.1...
I have had rooted phone with stock ROM and when appeared some update of OS, I installed it and then I found out, that rooting no longer works I must now only wait.
Has any from cooked ROMs better camera software? The stock camera app is OK, but I am missing possibility to set JPEG compression, which is in my oppinion too high and destroyes fine details in each picture.

It has been possible to downgrade your firmware and then gain root for a week now. There is a sticky topic in the development section.

And is there any way to backup my unrooted phone?
As far as I know there is not a way to do a full backup when the phone is unrooted. I fell for 1.72. Luckily I already did a titanium backup not long prior. The instructions given on the developers area of the forum are good though. The process does work.

[Q] [Request] Need a Stock ROM without Sense..

Use Android Rev HD with no-sense or no-sense++ script (HTC base 2.3.3 without sense).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040
or CyanogenMod rc-1 (google base 2.3.4)

This is an alright solution though i do not recommend the no sense script, it only removes certain apps and pieces of sense, not altogether... Cyanogenmod is one of my favorites, but the best rom i've ever ran (No longer fully supported, dev kept inspire but bought evo3d) is Gingerbeast on the inspire 4g forums, by Dilligaf, i definitely recommend it.
I stand by Cyanogenmod. Its stock with a steroid injection.

Thank u guys i just got Cynogenmod 7 installed on my Desire HD it works really well..
But i have another Request for you guys ... i have to use my home internet connection .. tht is internet pass through on my Cynogemod 7 could u plz find me a soloution which suits the best to the phone.. as i do not have a WIFI at home.. i use the internet pass through which helps me to download apps faster as i have a slow 2G network...
A $10 usb wifi dongle can be plugged into your computer and used as a makeshift gateway to share your connection via wifi.
Unfortunately I don't use Windows, only Linux so can't tell you how to set it up.
The internet passthru never worked on Linux so this is what I did to get around it.

[Q] Help getting back to stock or decent rom

Hi Guys
I rooted my HD last night with latest cyanogen with everything working fine.
So I then tried to overclock and flashed a kernal to do it
2.6.32.21-ck2-hrkfdn-cyanogenmod-gf01fa7d-dirty
since then the phone has been running like a dog. if i run a benchmark i get device does not support stencil buffers and I cant play games at all.
Is there a better kernal to use or can anyone explain how to get back to the stock kernal ?
Cheers
Flash your cyanogenmod rom again, then you have your old kernel back.

Back to stock
Hi guys,
I've unrooted my DHD the other day from LeeDroid 3.3.3, now back to stock (I believe?) 1.32.405.6, Android version 2.2.
When I check online for OTA updates the phone says there are no updates, but I know there is a 2.3 GB version with a 3.0 Sense available.
Any ideea how to get the latest OTA, please?
The only thing I can guess at is that something is not quite 'stock'. Did you restore your old radio and original hboot backup that was made when you originally rooted it? You might've already used this but Yoshi_523 wrote an awesome guide that I used when I needed phone fixed under warranty:

the thing is that now i want to upgrade my phone to a new version .....
questions are
1. can i upgrade it to android 4.0 ?? or some other version lets say 2.3 ??
2. i was going through these forms and i saw a page with Cyanogen Mod 7.0.2 .what exactly is that ?? is it a new version of android??
3. what is the difference between upgrading a ROM and upgrading android version ??

You can update to 4.0, but trust me, it's just not stable enough. On the other hand, 2.3 is very stable and is suitable for daily use.
But both of these are a no if you're looking for "official" updates.
2. i was going through these forms and i saw a page with Cyanogen Mod 7.0.2 .what exactly is that ?? is it a new version of android??

CyanogenMod7 is a custom ROM (Details explained below)
It offers you a lot of customization and general developer support.
3. what is the difference between upgrading a ROM and upgrading android version ??
Click to collapse
A ROM is essentially a modified unofficial. version of Android. So if your ROM is 2.3, you will upgrade to 2.3. Most of the time they will be better than stock, because they might offer more customization or tweaks not present in the stock ROM.
4. does upgrading the version actually speeds up and gives better performance??

I personally find 2.2 Sense based ROM to be smoother and a bit faster than 2.3.
5. and finally can anybody please help me out with step by step process of upgrading to android 2.3 or if theres a better version for it ??

Because you upgraded to the official 2.2, you have locked down your bootloader (refereed from here on now as "HBOOT")
You will first need to use a tool called Revolutionary to install a custom hboot, that will allow custom ROMs to be installed.
Go to this link: http://revolutionary.io/ and select "Download for Windows"
A .zip file will start downloading and a new form has popped up on the site. Fill it out first.
Plug in your phone and extract the .zip file you downloaded earlier.
Now just run "revolutionary.exe" and follow onscreen instructions.
After that was done succesfully your HBOOT should be version 6.XX...
Now download the HTC Wildfire ClockworkMod recovery from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694
And finally in the same topic linked back there scroll down a bit and follow the "To root:" part.
And that's it, you're rooted
Now, boot back into the recovery and select "Backup&restore" and make a backup (needed if you want to go back to your old ROM)
Now after you backed up do a full wipe (inside the recovery)
Afterward put this file on your SD card (assumin you want CyanogenMod): http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/update-cm-7.1.0.1-buzz-signed.zip
Also flash this to get the Market, gmail, ... :http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip

For both yes if you root and use custom roms. 4.0 isn't really stable atm but maybe it will get stable like 2.3

Cyanogenmod or cm is an AOSP ( android open source project ) This is a team of devs that make roms for our htc wildfire. cm 7 is android 2.3

This looks the same because if you upgrade a rom from 2.2 to 2.3 you have also upgraded android. But i guess you mean the difference between just an upgrade an rooting and flash custom software. The difference is that when you just update yo do a little upgrade and nothing more. When flash a NEW rom it just installs a complete new version.

It could. Ofcourse you need to adjust a little with overclocking if you use stock roms. But if you use aosp roms you have a speed up because they are much smaller than the standard roms.

The best is to go to 3xeno his index with all roms and add-ons, because there you find a complete tutorial too.
I hope this was helpfull
This is actually stable (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473344) but is missing lots of features as most haven't been ported from cm7 yet.
On my device it occasionally crashed after making phone calls.
