I have a Samusung Update for Windows Phone today... - Windows Phone 7 General

I am using the Focus and I used the Cheveronupdate tool like as soon as it came out, I have just done a 3min search to see what this update does for the focus. Has anyone else had this occur recently?

And the Update PR stunt (note)
I guess the generic MS saying it will prevent your phone from updating is now proven false as well, granted I don't know if this update has done anything yet since I am on step 7 of it creating a backup file.

ATT Focus
I also used the Chevron Updater and updated to 7390. I received a notification via Zune for the standard update last night and tried to update. Went through all steps and then I got an error 80180005 for which I could find no explanation, but the update failed. I then plugged my USB cable to the back USB ports on my laptop and the installation succeeded and changed the bootloader number, firmware and radio software numbers. These numbers were NOT CHANGED with the NoDo update from the CXhevron Updater method.

This is the Samsung firmware update.

I also unlocked my phone using Chevron to update to NOdO weeks ago but am yet to see the samsung firmware update.

well mine went through
without a hitch yes OS revision numbers didn't change and I am not sure about firmware. Can't tell you that I see any difference right now.

capacitive buttons should be less sensitive, and dont work if you press the screen on a different place at the same time (for gaming or video playback etc, accidently hitting back button, it should be disabled now)
camera should auto default to anti-shake setting ON.
screen should be responsive even on a soft surface (pillow)
this is what I read, not sure, can people confirm this? Is this also for the omnia7? Mine is at the store for repair but these things were some annoying things and will be nice if they are fixed on the omnia as well.

Windows update not working- 'make sure date and time are correct' - and 80072ee7

Yes I've tried searching.
I've tried to update with and without the data box checked. Wifi on and off. Is it disabled and ROMs and radios are done by htc? I'm so confused. I was born yesterday so I'm new to technology.
Connection to the update server is not available. Check your data connection settings and ensure the device date and time are correct.
Result Code:
80072ee7 (seems to be an error used by windows in general and not just mobile - mentions some static ip stuff for vista but I don't think you need that kinda stuff with a phone)
USA, T-Mobile, dunked-in-coffee color
Help please
Windows update not working is normal. I think carriers must support it for it to work and I don't know of any carriers that do.

Thanks. That means I have to figure out how to manually update through HTC's website or are there OTA updates like with android?

Traditionally, updates to Windows mobile devices are done via ROMs that you download to your computer and flash via a USB connection.I think some kind of OTA updating is possible, but I doubt of t-mobile will support that.

Well I also have the G1 from t-mobile and that has OTA updates, but that also doesn't allow tethering while for some reason winmo phones are apparently allowed to tether 24/7, so who knows.
I forgot to mention that my phone seems to be going abnormally slow and not reacting at a reasonable speed. I have no idea how I left that little nugget of info out since it's the reason I'm trying to update. I saw the MMS +international and a ROM update on HTC's site, but my versions are newer, so I'm not sure what's up (and I'm also horrible at navigating to info I need). I always go through all the settings when I get a new piece of plastic and I can't seem to speed this baby up no matter what I do. It seems to be at its worst in IE, with or without lots of stuff on the page, and besdies that it just doesn't seem as fast as it should be. The phone's only new-to-america, right (as in it's been out in other countries)? And winmo's been out for decades, so I don't think that's blamable on it being "new".
Man I'm horrible at finding stuff. I had that page with the updates on htc's site and now I can't find it again. I checked the online manual and it talks about windows update like it works too, but maybe that part is just part of the default windows mobile manual. I'M SO CONFUSED
Posting from my phone now, it took about three minutes to get down to this phone from the main forum page, and when it locks up I can't click menu or anything and yes the page was done loading and no I don't know why at 5AM I remember details I shoulda posted back at 5PM. Instant messages and texts also don't show up in order and some take literally hours to show up at all. My G1 and my cousin's sidekick both work in this location so I don't think it's a connection problem although I do get errors about not being able to connect to certain things but I have no idea what it means. One is like 'can't dial blah blah' but I'm not calling anyone.
I've never really had a good experience with windows mobile but I doubt this phone is actually really THIS bad. But, there's also nothing really pointing out a direct relation to this being a software or hardware fault.
Actually I'll post this then I'll post my version info maybe I'm not up to date
I can't copy paste this stuff? This is gonna suck
ROM ver.........1.20.531.4 (51986) WWE (this a limited edition wrestling phone or something?)
ROM date.......06/08/09
Radio.............3.45.25.14
Protocol..........61.27T.25.23U
I think I typed that all right. Is that up to date? I can't quite figure out htc.com, hell I can't even navigate my own site
I also can't seem to switch to transcriber or anything other than the default on screen keyboard

[Q] Update wp7 sucessuful?

This poll is just for Samsung devices!!!
I have made a poll for Samsung users to see how many Samsung wp7 devices were sucessfully updated... and on which update release...
Omnia 7 8GB, I have updated fine in the end. But here's my story on how.
I've initially tried at work, on my desktop. Failed.
Searched on the net and found someone who freed 4.5 GB (in Zune not in phone) and successfully updated. I freed 4.5 GB but it still failed. I just got home and retried here, different computer, same Zune. It worked! The only difference I did is installed this: MicrosoftFixit50581.msi from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2484484#ReceiveErrorUpdating because for the first update attempt (from 23 Feb) I was getting the error: C1010007
Hope others can do it like I did, try it on different computers!
Also, I've posted here:
http://www.zdnet.com/tb/1-94102-1801460
Not working for me, I will try on a laptop but I'm against deleting things or resetting the phone as I shouldn't have to do that .
No notification here yet (Omnia 7 Orange UK). Still I will wait a few days and make sure there are no more horror stories of bricking handsets before trying!

Yup, says i'm up to date at *004 version.
No notification yet, I have a Omnia 7 on Orange UK. Zune says version: 7.0 (7004)
HTC Mozart Orange UK, not yet any notification.
Omnia 7 Orange FR, notified yesterday night, and updated just fine.
(Omnia7 previously flashed with latest Samsung firmware because i've got the bad bootloader 4.10.1.9 preventing update without USB plug )
I update a few days ago never go notifications though, I was just syncing my phone and Zune said there was an update...
I have a O2 Branded HD7 running on Vodafone
still no notification, Omnia 7 on Orange UK.
I finally updated my Omnia 7!
- Tried about 4 times: failed
- Deleted all my music (around 8.5GB): failed
- Deleted all my apps except Engadget and Diodict: failed
Next steps should have been to delete games, then accounts, until I would be left with no choice but to do a factory reset.
Luckily I had TweetDeck tracking the error code in case something came up and surely, @dvroegop found a trick: He turned off Wifi then deleted all his pictures and managed to update straightaway.
At this point I had nothing to lose, really wanting to avoid a factory reset (didn't want to lose Engadget, Diodict apps and game saves) so I gave it a go (deleted videos too) and it worked first try .
Could be pure luck but if you don't want to hard reset it's worth a shot .
Stupid Pice of $#!T phone!!!
I've done the above, received the same results, followed every 'tip' and still get the C1010007 error. I THOUGHT the above mention of deleting EVERYTHING on the phone would help, so I deleted everything and still the same error ... except ... this time it got to 71% of the backup whereas before it always stopped at 68% before it crapped out.
I uninstalled all the applications I had on the phone and tried one last time. Now, the phone goes through the process and only gets to about 55% then $#!ts the bed.
Why is this so dang painful?!?!?! I might as well hard reset at this point. I have a feeling that won't matter and I'll still get this same error.
I have the LG Quantum from at&t and I have to factory reset and still cant update my phone!!! any suggestions?????

[Q] Official NoDo update fails, now what?

ive got a samsung omnia 7 and carrier is orange UK, i was sent a message to the phone saying the update is available but when i try to update it, it fails saying the timer ran out. error code 800705b4. any ideas or should i find my hammer? and wait for iphone 5?
I haven't had that problem, only cause AT&T is dragging, but I was able to find this on the error code.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2518812
Hope it helps!
ive got a samsung omnia 7 and carrier is orange UK and i just updated to the pre-nodo no problem - i didnt get a message about the nodo yet. just try again at least your phone isnt bricked
I got that on one of my devices, switched USB ports and it worked perfect. Apparently that one wasn't a high speed port.
ill try changing ports then, i think its must be the pre Nodo update now. i was told they would be installed into one update but maybe not.....
I got the Pre-NoDo update about an hour ago on Orange UK. Went through ok on my Omnia 7.
In preperation i deleted all the music off it to make sure there was plenty of free space. Thought it best be on the safe side! Only took about 5 minutes
Nah, it's separate. They can't really subsidize the updates like that and if they did it'd likely take forever.

If that doesn't work, try free up some storage space on your phone to below 3GB mark. At least that's how some Focus owners have to do.
deleting music now, why do i get the feeling the pre update is going to make me reset my phone to factory settings before it will work???
I had that problem with the pre-NoDo update, and ended up just hard-resetting the phone to get it to work. No problems at all with NoDo though, once the February update had already been installed and I had reinstalled all my apps, re-unlocked and unbranded it, etc. Backed up and installed perfectly once February update was in place.
It seems (from perusing other threads here and elsewhere) that the issue is one of the software timing out during the backup process when there's too much data on the phone. It's not a lack of free space, but a matter of the data taking too long to enumerate or transfer. Having < 3 GB total in use seems to work for a lot of people.
It also seems that the February update to fix the updating process corrects this issue - so if you have to hard-reset the phone to get it to update, go to the February update (but not March), then re-do your unlocking and customizations, reinstall your software, content, etc. and then the March NoDo update should back up the phone successfully and install fine without timing out. At least it did for me ...
despite wiping all of my music and lots of apps it still dosnt work. pre nodo sucks.
No, Samsung Sucks.
Yea, I think Samsung flashed firmware to some of their phones which isn't what they were supposed to, so it was borking up some updates. That's why only their phones have been messing up with the Pre-NoDo.
I solved this issue by updating on another PC.

Did you specifically erase all content using Zune? It wipes out everything but apps. I did that and the pre-update worked.

I believe the threshold is 3GB used, not 3GB free space. So, you need to keep deleting stuff.
I'm at 2.7 gb used and I still get error 800705B4.
I don't know if I have a PC in the house with faster USB ports.
I had 6 gigs full on my 8 gig device and it worked fine... Are your USB ports high speed ports? How new is your computer?
My computer is pretty old. 4 yrs.
I think it may be because I have all 4 USB ports in the front being used. I imagine that they're all just ports using the same controller. So that might be slowing down things in general.
When I get back home tonight, I'm going to try unplugging the devices on the other USB ports and see if that helps.

Weird system software update notification

I have a Note II (N7100) from Germany (DBT), carrier-free, and was on the Samsung stock Jelly Bean LL7 (DBT) ROM. I only CF-Auto-Root'ed (and Triangle Away'ed) this ROM but that's enough to get a "Modified" system status and thus not being able to get system software update notifications (for example, manually triggering the check for new firmwares only gets you to the "wait, checking for new firmwares" window, which keeps checking forever until you cancel it).
...Or so I thought.
Yesterday I received the notification that the new MC3 firmware was available even though if I manually check for updates it never finishes the check and, above all, even though I DISABLED the automatic check for new updates since the system doesn't seem to be able to find new updates with a modified status!
Trying to accept the update only brought me to the same "wait, checking for new firmwares" window which still hung forever so I tried to connect to Kies (latest version, of course) and it too told me that the new MC3 firmware was available so I tried to update it through Kies and... it worked!
Previously I had temporarily checked "keep root" in SuperSU Pro and I had disabled USB Debug (which I need especially for GMD Gesture Control, which I also temporarily disabled).
The update was completely successful (if a bit long) and everything works perfectly fine.
Does somebody have an explanation for why I received the notification even though manual checks don't work and (especially) I even had the automatic checks disabled (thinking it doesn't work)?
At first I even thought it was a fake notification from some malware (although I have only a couple of games, which are the usual source of malware -which I have never got before BTW-, installed)! LOL
I had same problem until i updated with kies. yesterday my phone was so hot i almost got burned from touching it and almost discarged, even thougt i was in charger, i think i was because it was constant searching for update. my guess is the servers was overloaded so my phone could not get the update or samsung pulled the update before my phone could download it. my phone is Dansih version.
Question is: did it kept your phone rooted? ( after you updated through Kies )
Answer is No root after update.

That should not be possible and sounds to me like you have a serious fault there, and quite likely a fire hazard.

Actually I didn't mean it as a "problem" at all
The overheating problem doesn't sound like something "normal" anyway, try doing something CPU-intensive like a benchmark or a heavy game for say 15 minutes and check the temperatures against another Note II doing similar tasks if you can, getting "almost burned" is NOT normal, you might have an HW fault (assuming of course you haven't OC'ed your phone).
Stressing CPUs/GPUs gets the phone *warm*, even "very warm" (they all are subjective definitions after all), but never "almost burning" hot!

I have SuperSU Pro and I checked Survival Mode but the SuperSU app wasn't there after the update.
TBH maybe simply reinstalling it from the market might have been all that was necessary but I simply re-rooted via PC Odin because I don't care about the warranty since my personal data on my devices are worth much more than the devices themselves to me (i.e. sending my devices for repair with my data on them is unthinkable to me and if they are broken in some way but can boot and can let me securely erase everything first then I can always "unroot" and "triangle away" later).

Surface RT - Windows RT 8.1 can't find windows updates and can't install Store Apps

Hi all, I recently got a Surface RT and reinstalled Windows RT on it as brend new device.
Windows starts from RT 8.1 and after some updates (almost 70) it updates the Surface firmware and switch to Windows 8.1 RT update (1). From that a few more updates and than my Surface can't find any windows updates and can't install Store Apps.
The Windows Update keeps being stuck on "serching for updates" forever and the Store apps won't install giving me an error about my slow internet connection.
I know for sure that the last Update is the update 3 for Win RT which I won't ever be able to install. I'm pretty sure that some update screwed my Windows Update center. I've re-installed a fresh new Win few times and alwyas got stuck at this point.
Any help?
Hi,
I have a very similar problem at the moment. I refreshed my surface 2 last week as the storage had filled up and couldn't be cleared by any other normal means. After reset, the first batch of updates would install but afterwards would get stuck on the "searching for updates". I have reset several times with the same problem occurring each time. Finally I reset using a usb recovery following the guide given on windows central forums (wont let me post link)
This time after installation, even on the first check for updates, it gets stuck. Been running now for over 24 hours and still nothing.
Hopefully someone on here will know the answer. I will follow this thread with interest.
---------- Post added at 07:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:53 PM ----------
Typical, no sooner had I written the post above then the search for updates finally finished after 25 hours. 262 updates found and ready for installation. Turns out that nothing other than (extreme) patience is required for the problem to sort itself out. It might be worth adjusting your power settings so that your surface does not go to sleep and hence interrupt the search. Good luck and hope it works out for you.
Hi and thanks for answering, I don't feel alone anymore. Here's my story:
The first time I resetted Windows was just after purchasing my Surface, brand new Win on and I used my surface for almost a week, researched for updates and installed it (firmware update and something like 76 first and 35 later) till the Windows RT 8.1 update (1).
I realized something was wrong as soon as Windows Store started giving me the same network error for each app I was trying to install. Looking for windows update was stuck on "Checking for update" for more than one hour (standby time on AC plugged in setted to never). Latest update available for the Surface RT is the Windows RT 8.1 Update 3.
Restored Windows, kept my apps but removed all the updates. Windows Store worked again, same for Updates. Installed two cycles (just like before) and again same situation... Windows Store started giving me the same network error for each app I was trying to install, looking for windows update was stuck on "Checking for update" for more than one hour (standby time on AC setted to never).
I tried every fix coming up on the web: wsreset, windows troubleshooting app for windows update and windows app and even deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder.
At this point I chatted with an MS employ through Surface assistance web page. She suggested me to reinstall a fresh windows copy from Microsoft web site using a USB drive and so I did...
Yesterday night it all came back, second cycle of updates, Windows Store started giving me the same network error for each app I was trying to install, looking for windows update was stuck on "Checking for update" for more than one hour (standby time on AC setted to never). I again tried all the fixes, nothing worked and so I restored Windows keeping my apps.
I'm now typing from my Surface, just restored but no updates installed yet. I'm really getting upset to MS for all this ****. Hope you get more luck.
Next week I won't need my Surface to much so I may try looking for updates for more than 24 hours and see if I can get out of this updates cycle.
Looking forward for better news and know if thing are working for you.
P.S. Text me the link you were talking about.
Updates: I've installed the KB2029xxx update (Update 1) and after that, as alwyas, Windows won't find any other update. I've let it check for more than 24 hours but still on "checking for updates".
Don't know what else to do.
Hi, I think it's about their servers aswell. I've tried everything and more to get out of this situation but nothing worked.
Last thing I did yesterday was:
1. Flush DNS "ipconfig /flushdns"
2. Run Windows Update troubleshooting
3. Checking for updates
And again is was stuck for hours till I gave up and shut it down.
The main difference is that flushing in DNS clear the Windows Update cache so it now looks like no updates are installed and updates history is blank.
Nothing changed tho. I guess MS removed (or blocked?) updates after Update 1.
Somewhere, somehow, I've red it's possible to "cook" your own ISO of Windows RT including major updates.
I'll find more out.
Keep us updated, the longest time for me was about 27 hours.

I checked again last night (48 hours) and again this morning. The Windows update bar was still scrolling away doing nothing. However, when I right clicked to shutdown, I now had option to 'Upsate and restart'. Choosing this it began installing 183 updates.
This was all done with Surface2 plugged in, sleep set to never, running via Wifi to 1GBps fiber broadband. I'm just happy it actually did something. Data must be drip-feeeding in using BITS at inperceptibly slow rate. So good news, it can work but just barely.
Wish you luck with yours. Hopefully @never_released can provide us an alternative OS solution in near future.

Great news. What would you suggest now? I can't let my Surface RT plugged for 2 days 'cause I need it, however I was thinking about pluging it in and let it check for updates during the night time, should be about 10 hours per day, and repeat this process till I find the magic "Update and Restart" button takes over the classic restart.
I've alwyas been checking using the metro Windows Update and not the Desktop's one.
Same issue here on my surface 2. I bought it off a buddy and reinstalled windows from an image found on the MS website. after installing the first batch of updates it just keeps searching. I found that while its searching I cannot download apps from the store it keeps spitting back the network is not fast enough despite being able to watch NF on multiple devices at once. its starting to bug me a little bit cuz i do want the new start menu.
Its not confirmed yet, but it might be worth to mention.
I've contacted Microsoft for this problem, and after hours, maybe days of troubleshooting they finally came to the conclusion that its pretty annoying.
However I did a request for making new system images (for the RT devices) since they are not supported by updates anymore.
The request has been sent and awaiting response. Let's all hope that my request will be get through and we will get new recovery images which are up-to-date anywhere soon.

Looks like that the ony way to go trought this at the moment is to just let your Surface check for updates, AC pluged, never set to sleep, for something about 30-40 hours till, still checking for updates, opening the shutdown menu shows the "Update and Restart" option.
I just had an idea. Maybe it could work maybe not but the people who where able to receive the updates on surface rt/2 upload the contents of their SoftwareDistribution (including Software distribution.Old if present) folder located in the windows folder so us that can't get them can just install them manually. Just an idea tho.
Quick update after factory reseting my surface 2 and attempting to do the first batch of updates I found that a bunch of my important updates fail to install. Causing my tablet to loose ability to install apps and find updates no matter what fix I try. Going try installing updates manually over the next few days and see if that helps.

oh well thanks for that. I just hope that maybe they will make a recovery image with all the updates pre-applied. or even unlock it for us but that's just being hopeful.
now I keep getting "connection too slow" error from the app store and when I run the troubleshooter I keep getting "service registration missing or corrupt - not fixed" I've contacted support via helpdesk but they are almost useless and i cant go to the surface support because it wants me to pay because my warranty is up.
Edit- just after typing this they put me in contact with someone from the surface department. hopefully they can help fix these issues.
mattschwantes said:
The Windows Update Troubleshooter always says Service Registration Missing or Corrupt. Even on a freshly recovered Surface RT/2.
It claims to fix the problem. Run it again, it detects no issue. But this only lasts until you restart. After restart, it behaves same as before. I think the Troubleshooter is actually just incorrect.

these issues are really starting to bug me I've reset my surface 2 about 10 times within the last 3 days. even if they stopped supporting the device we should be able to update and use it on the latest updates with no problem. talking to support is useless they always tell you to do the same steps over and over again.
