[Q] can't get into recovery on htc desire - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am stuck on the htc logo and can't enter recovery, is there any other way to get into recovery to clear the cache as i have tried flashing a ruu and making a gold card, all to no avail.

... press volume down + power when the phone is turned off. Then select recovery.

Would it work to try flashing the recovery from adb and then going from there?

Guys i fear my phone has bitten the dust;(

This morning i just flashed the new froyo rom that the xda guys had made and it said if you was experiencing any led problems to go into adb and delete a file.
I went into adb and mounted the system, but didnt delete a file, when i came out i didnt exit, i just pulled the usb cable,
is it possible that my system is still mounted and is stuck?
when i rebooted i am stuck on a boot loop from the first htc screen and i have no way of getting into recovery...
I dont think this is a usb brick as i didnt flash anything,
im not sure what to do now;(
I cant even flash a new ruu from fastboot;(
Hope you guys can help
JD
Almost the same hapened to med yesterday, but i was able to reflash.
Take out the batery and start into recovery directly, wipe before flash.
Good luck, i hope it works out for ya.
Im not sure if this is a usb brick or not? I think with usb bricks you can still flash a ruu from fastboot, where as i cant;(

And trying to flash a stock ROM from the built-in recovery (the one accessible with volume-up and power from the HBOOT's red triangle screen)?
Just to be clear, with the device turned off you can't get into HBOOT holding vol. down and turning it on?

Just boot your Desire with volume-down pressed and once in the HBOOT, select RECOVERY; then, as the red triangle screen appears press volume-up and power until you reach a blue recovery console that has a "Flash from sdcard" menu entry.
Copy a stock ROM to your sdcard and flash it.
I've never tried that, but I readed that the console is able to flash HTC signed stuff, so give it a try...

If your phone will not boot and with no backup then you could try re-flashing your ROM from recovery, wipe the cache and dalvik then re-flash your ROM,if that works then reboot into recovery and do a backup, that way if you break things again then you can restore the phone to a working state.

DETAILS htc stock 2.3 no knowledge of rooting so guide me in plain english but i am willing to learn how to do it! + I do not know how to do or what you are talking about how are you ment to flash it if it will not boot?
If you can get into recovery then you will have to do a factory reset to get your phone working again, then, read this

This details how to go about rooting your phone, first things first though go to recovery and do a factory reset

Yeah But This Is The Problem When You go into bootloader select recovery same thing happens freezes, go into factory reset same thing happens
Sorry what do you mean by freezes?Talk me through it,From bootloader you scroll down and select recovery, then you go to factory reset, what happens?
The bootloader/recovery is independent of the ROM so if you broke your ROM by trying to install the ICS Launcher it can't affect bootloader/recovery,how did you try and install the launcher,be specific please.

Need urgent help please

I tried flashing a theme using the same .zip of a rom for the One X so what I did was I deleted everything and kept the system and META-INF and now I get stuck at the HTC htc quietly brilliant..Luckily I have made a backup through recovery but whenever I go to recovery it just takes me back to the htc quietly brilliant screen. My computer recognizes the phone and everything and the fastboot commands. I tried reflashing recovery it says successfully but it didn't do anything, I still get stuck. I don't really know what to do afterwards. Can someone be so kind and help this poor guy out? Thank you.
If you can go to fastboot mode.
In fastboot mode, try "fastboot erase cache"

Are you already in the fastboot folder with the RUU?
For detailed instruction for unbricking or reverting to stock, there's a thread for that in devs section.

[Q] warranty

i made a big mistake when flashing rom, i don have boot.img, i flash paranoid rom and then reboot, at first startup it stucks at the screen. but after i long press power+volume - button, it then boot into fastboot, i then use the volume button to navigate to recovery. since i do not have previous rom backup, i just do system, dalvik and cache and wipe section. and then reboot again. now it stucked at htc quietly brilliant but bottom with red letter "this build is for development purposes only". i try long press power+volume but not responsive. i am not too sure it just stuck there or because my power button got a bit problem, sometimes need to press few times to unlock screen.
i tam so dumb, i just dunno how to deal with this.
so in this case, can i bring my phone to htc service station? is my warranty void during unlock bootloader?

the problem is now it is stuck at htc quietly brilliant. i long press power &volume- still cannot get rid of this, i am not too sure it is because the power button is spoiled or what. all in ove v kit also unable detect device.
Try pressing only power for more than 10 secs.it will then force a restart.

I understand, it almost happened to me once. Dude, you'll have to do whatever you can and somehow or the other get in fastboot mode.
Try pressing the power button hard enough...
When you do that, go to recovery, mount your sd card, transfer a Rom to your device, of needed from recovery you.can reboot to fastboot and flash the appropriate kernel.

thank god now i finally enter fastboot. now which step shall i proceed?
i think i messed up everything previously. what i knew i did correctly is unlock bootloader. now rooting part start screwing.
is it i need to root then flash kernel then flash custom rom?
Root doesn't matter because everything is done from fastboot and recovery.
From what was said above flash your kernel in fasboot USB then right after go to recovery from your hboot. Factory reset wipe (wipes everything besides sd card or will say fail because it didn't wipe sd that's good)
Then click install and chose the zip and then flash your gapps zip
If it is still stuck I know what the problem is if your primoc let's just take this one step at a time

Great, so I assume you have a booting device... First step you need to do is NOT press the power button or make sure you press it as few times as possible. You can also use sweep2wake by maxwen and I assume you already know that
This is because you don't want to damage the button more than it already is
