Cyanogen, 4 quicklaunch buttons - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running Cyanogen 7.0 and am wondering how to add an extra 4th quicklaunch button (the buttons that appear at the bottom of the home screen) The Androdian theme seems to shows 4 buttons in the picture, however 3 buttons still appear when I switch to it =( Is there an option somewhere that i'm missing? I've been through the menus a few times and can't seem to find anything at all.
Thanks.

How to change bottom 4 icons?

I am new to Android and was wondering how to change the 4 icons at the bottom. I figured out how to replace them but I want to keep them there but with cooler icons that I have seen on other handset devices.
I don't want it to interrupt the touchwiz as I like it.
You can't change the Home/Application one at all, but the others you can change in the application view, my handset has gone back to be replaced so I can't check right now, but I believe if you hit the menu button and go into editing mode you can just drag n drop the icons in and out of the tray.

.... is it malfuncioned ?
i'm planning to get one but now u made me concerned
Seems to have been some problem in the ROM on mine, I wouldn't let it put you off - so far I'm the only person to have been affected so I wouldn't worry about it.

Same here, you can only replace the "Phone, Contacts & Messaging". But I don't think there's a problem with that.

glad to hear that man ... thx for ur reply
You can change the 4 buttons below.
1. Get into Menu Mode (not home/torchwiz mode) by pressing the right left of the 4 botton on AMOLED.
2. There is 3 botton below the screen. Press the bottom left button. A menu will appear.
3. Select Edit. All the icons can be edited now.
4. Give any buttons a "LONG PRESS", you can start to move the icons around.
In Touchwiz mode, you can also move the torchwiz icons by just long press and move it around.
I understand how to put new shortcuts down in there, but I want the 4 buttons, just replace the icon so it 'looks' different.
Oh, misunderstood.
So you want to change the 'look' of the icon.
Sorry, that one I do not know.
use Launcher Pro from the market... you will have 14 icons below customized to your liking
Thanks was looking for info on this earlier

Go into applications.
Click the menu button (left 'physical' button), set to grid mode it not already.
When in grid mode, the menu will have an edit option.
Go to that and then you can change the apps on the bottom.
LOL
I was not able neither to understand how it workedto change with the first explanation
Nowe it's clear and i changed them ... very ueful

What is this mysterious bar?

If you look at the screenshot of Dolphin browser there is a black bar with 3 dots on it.
I'm not sure what made it appear, but its functionality is:
1) open settings for some applications (dolphin, golauncher).
2) not do anything for some applications even though it shows up.
3) annoys the crap out of me because I want it gone. It blocks a big amount of screen.
I don't know what caused it to appear, I've never seen it before. I was updating my phone and installing some applications when I suddenly noticed it.
Edit:
Attachment is not showing up for me so here's an upload on tinypic: http://i50.tinypic.com/equt75.png
That's the 3-dot menu button.
Go to Settings - Display, gestures & buttons - Recent apps button
and pick either Press for menu, press and hold for recent apps
or Press for recent apps, press and hold for menu
I personally use the second one, long press the recent apps button will bring up the menu

You'll see it in apps that haven't been optimised for ICS (or higher) yet. On phones without a hardware menu key, correctly coded apps will display an overflow button somewhere on their action bar to access the menu. Apps which haven't been coded in this way need some other method of accessing the menu - phones with on-screen buttons (like the nexus range) display a menu button beside the other buttons, we obviously can't do that so HTC chose to stick a massive menu bar across the bottom of the screen. As already pointed out you can reassign the menu function to the 'recent apps' key which will hide the menu bar, or you can pester the devs of those apps to do things properly in future.
Oh my god. Thanks guys!
I looked everywhere but couldn't fix it!

PA forcing menus to bottom/bottom ledt

So just wondering if it's possible to make all menus open in the bottom or bottom left corner. Example, when I press my menu key in Gmail the menu opens at the top right of the screen where it's hard to reach during one handed use. I'd like all my menus to open bottom left so I can use my phone with one hand. I've tried hybrid settings but both phone/phablet modes don't seem to change that behavior.
Thanks

Personally I have never seen a menu open anywhere else other than the top right, with a few rare exceptions. Hopefully someone else has more knowledge on this to help you.

Navigation Bar Questions

Got my G3 today and have been spending a good amount of time setting it up.
I am rooted and have Xposed w/G3 Tweaksbox.
I have a couple of things that still annoy me.
Is there a way to swap the behavior of the recent apps button? I want short press to be menu and long press to be recent apps. I figured out I can add a menu button using G3 Tweaksbox that does exactly that, but I can't remove the stock recent apps button, so I have 4 buttons there and I don't really like that.
When I drag up the recent apps button, I get a little semi circle selector with voicemate, search and quickmemo+ options. I have no intention of ever using voicemail or quickmemo+. Is there a place to change the 3 things that come up there?

Most modern apps use the 3 dot menu button in the app interface and that is why most modern phones tablets do away with dedicated menu button so why would you want to do this?

You'll get used to the new buttons in no time. Just give it a little time and you'll look back at the S3 thinking the button layout was dumb.i had an S3 and S4. Love the G3 and the on screen buttons!

I have the exact thing you want; but I don't want it. I'm rooted with Xposed framework and I randomly rebooted my phone earlier to have it turn back on with a functioning menu button. I looked through all the modules I had downloaded and even booted into safe mode but to no avail. I desperately need help with this.
Sorry that's not what you want, but if anyone knows how to get that, that's why I want.

Sorry for reposting this... Thought I posted in a different thread but I guess I'm wrong. Please don't crucify me
As a long time samsung user, I'd say try without the menu button and see how you get on first.
But you can change the swipe up (and thats a swipe up from anywhere on the navigation bar btw, try it out), using tweaksbo, it's under:
theme > ring pad
And you can either turn it off, or add up to 5 custom apps.
The recent apps button is kinda key to android, it's like asking to remove the home button. Maybe instead of adding a menu button, make double tap on home be the menu button instead? Then you'd still have your three icons, and wouldn't lost out on recent apps, which you should end up using more now it's easier to reach (as opposed to a long press on the home button on samsung).
As noted most apps should use the 3 dot menu button so unless you have an outdated app you use regularly you really shouldn't even want a dedicated menu button. Ask the developer to update the app. It's the way forward and most all modern phones don't have a dedicated menu button, even the S5 replaced the menu button with the multitask button. It you really can't adapt ask the G3 Tweaks xposed developer if he can add a menu button option as the G3 already has the framework to change nav buttons.

Just use the LG Display menu in settings to remove that button and xposed to add other button options. I'd like to know what people use, I'm on a 4 button system. I'll post pics when I get a chance
I somehow managed to change them on a system level if that's even possible. I disabled all modules and even booted into safe mode and they were still there. I'd like to change it back on whatever level it got modified. And the settings app crashes when I try to change the button combination.
The OP did not want to replace the resents button with menu, but only change its behavior: short press - menu, long press- resents. I am very interested in the same setup.

In TweaksBox under theme tweaks, then ring pad. It let's you select one in the free version. In the donate version you can select up to 5 shortcuts in the ring pad or disable it altogether.
settings / display / home touch buttons / button combination
I think they are standard options and not something I've added in. let's you add/remove a button such as the menu button or recent apps. screen is wide so I use 5 buttons.

personally don't use program #1 the ring selector as it is accidentally opening all the time with use of the back button.

Hold the recents and thats your menu button. Thats a default setting i believe. No need for g3 tweakbox unless a longpress isnt what you want. Idk which model you have but the tmobile version doesnt let you add the menu button on the nav bar.

Help - cannot move icons or create folders on home screen

Hi,
I have had my Tab S 10.5 for a couple of weeks now and cannot seem to find out how to move/rearrange icons on the home screen or create folders and move icons into them.
I have a Note 3 that has a soft menu button for the Home Screen but I cannot find how to display this when on the Home Screen of the Tab S.
If I long hold on the home screen I get a highlighted home screen and Wallpaper and Widgets option at the bottom.
If I long press on an icon on the home screen I get the usual 'Tap Edit to resize widgets, and reposition widgets, shortcuts, and folders.
I have searched this forum and Googled for this issue but cannot find anything, please help?
Thanks
One way I know to create folders on my Tab S 8.4 is to create them in the Apps list, then drag it onto the Home Screen. Then you can hold-drag your Home Screen icons to move/rearrange the icons and organise into the folder as usual. The 10.5 can't be that different to 8.4?

I can create a folder in the Apps list and drag it to the home screen, but when I hold-drag on an icon I just get the message 'Tap Edit to resize widget etc etc ....'
I contacted Samsung live chat and they got me to to try a few things and advised a long hold on the home screen should display the menu but I don't see it, so they then told me to take it to the Samsung store in Sydney or a repair centre in Granville which are not close to where I live at all.
If I cannot find a fix I will have to take it back to JB HiFi for a replacement, only 2 weeks old so shouldn't be a problem.

Samsung Australia is forced to remove the behaviour from TW, due to patent lawsuit that Apple won in Australia.
If you wish to fix it, you can flash a non Australian firmware with Odin to return the functionality.
Of course a simpler and better suggestion is to load a better launcher like Nova, which is faster and far more functional & customizable than TW anyway.
Please can you tell me what functions have been removed as I get a similar message on my Note 3 but can press the Menu button to access Edit and Create a folder etc?
The Tab S doesn't have a Menu Button, is there a long press to get the Menu option to appear?
Thanks

Possibly your device need a Factory Reset, sounds like it's behaving unusually, because tap and hold an icon intuitively should allow you to move the icons around that page or to the other pages. You said you have researched throughout the forums (and that I haven't seen anyone else with this issue), it may be it's an isolated issue on your tab.
Although, long hold on home screen also does not give me that option on this Tab S and I think on the Tab PRO as well. Same thing when I press and hold the left capacitive button (the task manager button), all I got are Wallpaper, Widgets, and "Remove" trash can.
My suggestion is still Factory Reset before you return the device, unless you still prefer in doing so.

Oh wow, didn't know about that. So silly that Apple.
Anyway, the Task Manager button (left capacitive button, left side of the fingerprint scanner / Home button), which where the usual Menu button used to be, if you tap and hold it, it will behave like a Menu button. See if it's working or whether Australia's firmware is forced to remove that as well, lol.

I believe 3 changes exist on Australian firmware, you cannot edit or change the dock icons, the Samsung Gallery Autorotate doesn't work (the grey rotate icon is greyed out), and It's often been said that camera shutter sounds cannot be disabled, although that may be a global thing.
It was recently mentioned that an update to the Samsung Galaxy S5, had recently again enabled the dock icons to be edited, but I haven't seen any other devices mentioned with a similar update.

So no mention of the Edit menu being taken away from the Home Screen then, or not being able to move icons on the Home Screen.
I have tried doing a factory reset and still have the same issue, is there nobody else in Auz who has seen this issue?
If I long press on the left button next Home all I get is Wallpapers and Widgets at the bottom, no menu to creature a folder etc.
I don't mind using a launcher but I am sure I should be able to move icons and create folders on the Home Screen with the Samsung setup on the Tab S.
Should I be take it back for a replacement?

Alright, I have tapped and hold on a icon on Home Screen, the page shrinks a bit, you can move the icon around, AND you get the 3 option on the top, Create New Folder, App Info, and Remove.
When you do this, you don't get these options?

It seems to be expecting you to access the Menu option to select Edit, but I just cannot find the Menu anywhere.
If I long press on the soft button to the left of the Home button it goes to the home screen add or remove screen, and I get Wallapaers and Widgets at the bottom and Remove at the top.

Wow that's a bummer
Well, I also get the Wallpaper and Widgets at the bottom and Remove on the top when I long press the left soft button.
Another thing I would suggest is visiting a store that has tab on display that you can play around with, testing the missing "Create Folder" selection when long pressing the Home Screen.
If they behave the same, then TW is broken for Australia ROM
Not much can be suggested other than what's already been suggested... flashing other stock ROM from different region... or wait till Samsung workaround that ban... which could be never. Sorry, Man.

figured it out!
I had the same problem but have figured it out. If you go into your apps screen there's a list of options on the top right represented by 3 verticle dots. Click on the dots and one option is to create a folder. The folder will open in the apps section but you can then drag it to your home screen and use as normal. If you delete the folder from your apps page it will still stay on your home screen. Good luck!
