Yeah they charged me 35 I think. And at the time I didn't have insurance.

Had the same issue like 2 weeks ago and was told they don't do that anymore.
Good luck.

last time I visited them for this reason, I believe that they said that they don't repair cracks larger than an inch.

You could try a NON corporate sprint repair center. Most of the ones I've ever been to will do it and sometimes free. In my case they just write a note saying the something else was defective and replace the screen (or phone). Most times if they can get the money from sprint they'll do anything

I plan on buying the Gs3 on my mother's account unactivated. I would like to know if can activate it my account, I'm not due an upgrade and not face any penalities.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Yes but they will show it as a new phone and charge you $36 activation fee.
Sent from my PantechP4100 using xda premium
Not if it is Att you are talking about...if you buy the phone outright it will be a simple change equipment and you will only be charged the price of the phone ..it should go that way for most phone companies but if its att you won't get charged...

Nah, it's for Sprint. My mother have an upgrade and I do not so I plan on buying the Gs3 from wirefly or some other place unactivated and activate it on my account w/o going through the "flip-flop" fiasco.

I thought that, but when I got my Epic the reps told me if I ever activate a phone too early that wasn't due for an upgrade my account could be cancelled or something.

Nah. Some of the richer Devs do it all the time. Same as buying a phone full retail off contract.

I have this plan called insurance for my phone I pay att $10 every month for it. Is this the same as a warranty? And will rooting void this "insurance"?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Yes and I don't think so. I believe rooting only voids mfg warranty although I could be wrong as I've never fallen for the insurance sales pitch.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Insurance covers everything warranty does not cover including physical/liquid damage, lost/stolen, or if it's out of warranty by date. So even if you did root it, you'd still be covered.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317
Alright thank you then I will proceed on rooting

AT&T insurance kind of sucks though. I recently started to file a claim on my galaxy s2, but there was 199 dollars deductible. After a little bit of begging and pleading with AT&T folks I was able to upgrade about a week and a half early rather than spend 200 dollars on two year old refurbished phone.

I recieved an extra note 2 after it was marked undeliverable by at&t they made some sort of error my question is if I sell this note 2 will the person have any trouble using it
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Why wouldn't you just return it to AT&T?

If they blocked the IMEI then no AT&T nor T-Mobile user can use it.
And the risk you are going to end up paying for that if you don't return it it probably pretty high. And they aren't going to charge you what you can sell it for on the secondary market.

Think.... there's no "think" about it. Mail fraud is a felony in the U.S. Do the smart thing and return it.

Call att and tell them. What you are doing is theft op, and is not worth it.

Ask yourself, is making a few hundred bucks worth being charged with mail fraud? Contact AT&T and return the device, it's the right thing to do.
Might of worked before but nowadays they track and black ball phones by imei. So not worth it when u get busted.
Sent from the TermiNOTEr 2!
Yeah if I were the OP I would definitely take it into the AT&T store and return it. Sooner or later the paper trail will lead back to the device. Even if the IMEI works and you sell it on Craigslist or something and then AT&T catches there mistake and turns it off. Whoever you sold it to might come looking for you. Or even worse have the cops show up at your door for mail fraud.
That's a felony, theft by mislaid/delivered property and also possibly mail fraud. I would return it since it's NOT YOURS. Just suggesting
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Just hold on to it for a couple of months, if you called att no one would know how to process a return in this situation. If you return it to the store an employee is going to just steal it or something. After a couple of months sell it. Fraud is when you intentually screw over the company, technically you found a lost phone. Lol
Btw this is called equipment gaming through att and per contract you will get your account canceled if they see this done multiple times, they will not take legal action. It's not worth there time nor does anyone care at att.

Great except the phone was delivered insured. USPS pays out. I'm sure they audit losses.

Att does not insure anything they send out, all att would do in this situation is send out a new phone for free because if it was insured the shipping company would make sure it was not lost and make him wait a week before he gets a new phone. Like I said just keep it for 2 months if something were to happen then they will be looking for it in that time.
If you wanted to make sure the phone is not on the blacklist, call att tech support desk and ask them to run the imei number because your thinking about buying a note 2 for a friend. The worst att will do is report the phone stolen but less likely because the phone is technically lost and they only report phones that are stolen.

Correct. Couriers are protected by mail fraud laws. Anyways, I've lost interest in this topic.

So I cracked my phone, its totally usable I just dont like using a phone with any type of defects... I m thinking of filing a clakm through assurion to get a replacement.
Now I face a dilemma.... I been wanting a Note 2 so I was wondering if its possible to get that through Assurion instead of the S3

You don't want a conspiracy to commit a felony charge?? But they're sooo fun!
Of course they know.... Insurance company are in this to make money. Don't you think they spent millions of dollars of research to minimize fraud?

To claim ur phone you need to send them receipt of your purchase with imei number or box so there is no way you can do it.

I work for T-Mobile,
Just lending my opinion, even though you might be able to select a different device online,
the claim still has to be reviewed before it is finalized. They will check the account with the current IMEI
in use, will identify it as a galaxy S3. Even if it slips through...
When you make a claim for damage, they send you a replacement for a $130 deductible, and expect
you to send your device back with the prepaid label they will include.
And they do state that they take frauding very seriously and prosecute to the maximum extent of the law.
All you have to do is write note 2 on it with a sharpie before you send it in.
