So I received my 1st VM since flashing to salvage mod and I noticed two things..
1. It took like 10-15 minutes for the alert to come through after I missed the call
2. I got a weird text message letting me know off said VM, but it asked me to call some number, which didn't play my message
Does this sound right? I finally called my phone number and retrieved my message
Yeah, that's a common problem. Easiest thing to do is download an SMS app that lets you block texts from certain numbers and block 9016.
edit: I think super-private conversation is what people use.
handcent will block 9016 texts and has a nice interface. Finally after being told 2000 times to try google voice, I did, and it is great. I would recommend trying that if you want something else to play around with.
Yeah, I switched to Google Voice, even on Sense ROMs (not like I ever use those anyway).
oh yeah, sense. I remember that. It was like February 2011 or something right? Best thing about google voice is the text translation. Seriously, did they even try? It's funny how bad it is, but the service is great

But, if I block the text, how he hell do I know if I actually got a VM or not?
You should still get a VM notification.

Nothing showed up yesterday :/
Left a VM from my work phone, lets test this out.
Sounds like a plan. Let us know.
Edit: What steps did you follow in order to set up your VVM?
10 minutes and no alerts at all.
Does this sound normal?
When you set up your VVM did you:
•*Use Titanium Backup to backup vvw in a Sense ROM
• Flash CM7
• install the apk for VVM (attached in various threads, or extracted from a sense ROM, unless it's preinstalled in Salvage)
• Use Titanium Backup to restore data only for VVM
Sorry should have asked this first. This is the only way to get VVM properly working on AOSP.

I am not running VVM.
So I discovered that I get the text almost immediately, but there is no "notification" that pops up.

I would just call my own phone number and put in my PIN.
So since I dont have VVM, I get the text message instead?
Yeah, you're not going to get a notification if you're not using a voicemail app lke Google Voice or VVM.

Ah ok, makes sense. I am going to DL Google Voice and test it out.
FYI, you have to set up a GV account and number on the comp first. You can set it up online from the phone, just easier from a comp.

So Google Voice works. I guess I still need to set it up to say my name and stuff.

Okay guys, I have searched on Google, and found a few possible solutions to my problem, but was not successful in my attempts. I know I've seen threads pertaining to this type of thing, however the xda search is currently down, and I'm losing my patience. I never had any issues with voicemail before, but recently I switched from Myn's to the CM Wimax alpha 3 ROM. While I was on that, visual voicemail didnt work, and I started getting texts from 9016, telling me that I had a voicemail. I didn't pay much attention to it, because I thought that VVM was a lost feature on CM. Anyways, I switched back to Myn's, however the VVM still won't work, and I still recieve those texts, which I never got prior to trying CM. The only way I can get a voicemail is to actually call from my phone, and enter my passcode and what not. Based on the stuff I found on google, there was a number I found to call, to try to deactivate, which was 14089700000. I couldn't figure out how to deactivate, and gave up on that. I also found info saying to use the VVM app to compose a message and send it to [email protected]. I don't know if that works, because for some reason my phone won't send that message. It just says "message undelivered", and retrying yeilds nothing. I tried clearing the data from the VVM app, and when I restart the app, it says that it's authorizing my info, but then says error, connection timed out, your VM service won't be interrupted. I'm confused and out of ideas, and without the xda search, I'm lost. Thanks in advance guys.
Anyone?

Alright from my experience Sprint VVM never worked right with CM at all. I always just used google voice and set up the forwarding by following the instructions on google (something like *28###-###-####). However it seems like something got messed up in the voicemail setup. I would go into settings applications manage applications all, scroll down to Voicemail, Clear Data and Force stop. Hopefully this will reset the application and make you provision it again. You can also try by dialing *38 to make sure you have everything forwarded correctly. By doing this it should revert your forwarding back to Sprints original VVM provisioning. Judging by the fact that you know how to switch between roms I'm assuming you are not incompetent. Also make sure this: go into setting call and make sure your voicemail service is set to My carrier and then go into voicemail settings. Other than that I have no idea what to do.
P.S. I looked at your signature and you still have the old PRI and Radio. Shouldn't have anything to do with it but if you revert back to stock and take it into Sprint, they will ask you to update everything.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried dialing *38 already, made sure that voicemail was set to 'my carrier', made sure it was set to my phone number, i tried sending '[email protected]' using the compose feature of the vvm app. For some reason, that message wouldn't send. It just keeps saying, message undelivered. I was able to nandroid back to another backup of RLS5 that I had, and was actually able to get it working. It's just on Myn's beta for the Z ROM that I can't get it to work, however many other people are stating that it does indeed work on that build. I don't know, I gave up with it I guess, I switched to google voice, and that seems to be working okay. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Ya no problem man....I really really like google voice but I just decided to stay with Sprint VVM. Hopefully some day they will make voicemail transcription free for Sprint.
I've been out of the loop lately and just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
Thanks.

yes,

Gingerbread + 4g + AOSP = CM7
Awesome, thank you both!
I can't deal with the VM issues on CM7. Otherwise, it is awesome. But the text each time you get a voicemail is ridiculous.
Update to using Google Voice... No more VVM issues with CM7, and works like a charm.

But why? Sounds like there's another option besides switching my phone number.
Besides, I can never get used to the "press 1 to talk prompt." I'm always like, hello? ... press 1 ... hello?

Well for one, you do not have to change your number anymore... Sprint has integrate with GV where your Sprint number is your GV number...
Second, yeah that is getting a bit annoying. I am hoping they fix that or provide a way to turn it off...

You, sir, just blew my mind. I am potentially very happy about this.
Potentially because I apparently do not have the capability yet. I don't have the "enable google voice on your sprint mobile phone" link next to my number.

That is still in the testing phase, you won't be able to unless you sign up for testing (not sure if that is still open) or until they release it.

Dammit I want it now, though.
Why would switching to gv for voice mail change your number? I have gv as my voice mail and I don't need to change my number. Whenever people call my sprint number and I don't pick up it just goes to gv voicemail.
Also the press 1 to talk prompt can be changed in gov setting via computer not android app. If you log in to gv on your computer you can change the settings.

+1 I like the Google Voice MUCH better than Sprint VVM.....and the text translations are free (though not all that accurate at times). Just alot more options than VVM.
im using youmail for visual voice mail on CM7, works like a charm, and i dont get those text messages from 9019 or whatever number it was, i can't remember if i blocked them with my messaging app, but i think just fiddling with some settings makes it go away, after my most recent flash a few days ago the text messages never showed up,
Even if you have a gv number, it's not like you have to change your number. Dialing your sprint number still gets people to your gv voicemail.
Plus, like said above, if you're getting texts, just block them. Most of the GB AOSP ROMs (if not all) have 4g now.
So I just picked up my first EVO yesterday. Rooted running fresh, nice.
I installed the same version of Google voice on here, as is on my Hero, however the EVO doesn't give me the option to 'make' calls. And in the set up, it took over my messaging app. I can't even change the options on messaging. Anyone know why its so limited and controlling on the EVO?

To switch back you need to go online I believe as far as the messaging. Also try seeing uf there is a update for GV, cause in mine there is a setting to ask everytime, or to just use one or the other.

I think I did that is there any way to fix it
It seems you have integrated your GV with Sprint. You need to go in your GV account online and disable integration and remove your GV account from the app. Then you need to setup GV again, this time, press "skip" the first time you get the choice to skip while setting up and setup GV the regular way without integrating.
I just flashed the Synergy rom and every call I make a call it uses my Google Voice number. I don't even have the GVoice app installed! WTF!

That is weird, indeed. I, too, have the Synergy rom installed and it did not do that and still doesn't. You may try logging on to GV online and alter some settings.

That's what I had to do. Go to GV online and disable the number and it will all go back to normal and your texts will also be fixed because I bet they are being hijacked by GV
same thing happened to me a while back. change the settings on the website and you'll be good to go.
The new google voice app seems to hijack your number. I nanded to an old backup and used titanium to store the old app version and now I restore that instead of the new market app.

voicemail isn't 'missing' it isn't a feature of AOSP. Just call your own number or use youmail or voice.

This is what I did. Change number 1 to my phone number so I can hold 1 and it calls my vm. To do this goto keypad press menu button, settings, vm settengs and then vm number.
I use Go Messaging for txt and when I get a vm it sends me a txt to notify me of vm.
Ive been using Phonefusion Visual Voicemail from the market and it works great i get emails when i get missed calls that just hang up and i get dictation visual voicemails within the app i am very pleased with it
and no i am in no way affiliated with said app just happy i have something that works right for me

Let me know if you figure this one out. I use Gvoice for my business number so can't join it with my Sprint number. Also Gvoice will only let you forward to your cell number once but it can be used as a second line meaning your second Gvoice account has to forward to a different number as primary and then your cell as secondary number.

This is actually very easy. I have the same setup. I have a Google Voice number for my business so when I wanted to use Google Voice for voicemail I set up a new account with the same google account I use on my phone. Here is the Important part! Do not use the google voice android app! In your desktop web browser setup google voice to send voicemail messages via email. I send them to my Gmail account. They come in to Gmail on my phone as transcribed emails with a button to play the actual recording if the transcription is no good. It is the best setup actually. it requires no extra software or SMS issues and it just works.
Hey this could work.
Make a nandroid backup of cm9
Go back to stock
Backup your VM with tb.
Restore your backup of cm9
Restore your backup of VM with tb.
Enjoy!!!
