I've been around for a while now, and I've learned a lot about android, more specifically the epic 4g. I have learned what roms, kernels, and themes are. Now here's my question, when android websites post something that has to do with an htc phone leak, they always say "the RUU leaked" What is an RUU? I'm assuming its an HTC thing only, because I've never seen that being used in the epic section.

I dont plan on rooting my epic anytime soon(never have). So, in your opinion is sprint iD worth installing? Should i use it or ignore it?

your talking to a guy who says "no way not now or ever will i root my phone".
that means no custom roms, no themes, no taskbar mods, no nothing.
with out a custom rom, this phone barely even runs live wallpapers.
i think sprint id will be a thrill for him...
2 yes, 2 no. I should add, that it runs just fine on stock rom. I've been on xda long enough to learn tricks to keep it nice. I don't even use live wallpapers, except to make my iphone friends jealous. Anyways, thanks for the input.

For anyone running a modded ROM, Sprint ID is extra trash you don't need as you can get the same thing, and far better done, with Themes and such.
For a stock build, it is not that bad, as long as you pick the clean ID
The other options are just bloatware... rofl...
The only people I have found that like it on sports fanatics and for the ESPN theme. Sprint ID is no more than a stock theme changer which is bloated with running services. For those that want Sprint supported themes...use it. I won't because I can handle my own wallpapers and ringtones and which apps I dl and use.

After using it, i have decided the only use i might possibly have for it, is to switch between Launcher2 and Touchwiz. Its not really that interesting at all.

More sprint garbage adding on the epic, thanks god for custom roms!!!
I have some totally noob questions about this all and the reality is that I've been wondering. What are the differences between the epic 4g touch and the gs2 on other carriers? When searching the xda forums do I need to be careful about whether certain ROMs are for the epic or another carrier phone? Ive had some problems with my flashing. The starburst RoM bricked my phone for awhile until I was able to find a stock image to restore from. I had backed up right before I flashed but for some reason it didn't finish and I didn't realize so when I went to backup from this starburst rom that put my phone in a continual boot loop I was screwed. I think my phone wont ever be able to go back to new like the day I bought it. Any ideas?

Im kinda new to this too but i believe this section is for sprint epic touch 4g. Any roms here are for epic touch 4g and they will work. You probably messed up the steps wrong that cuz to bricked ur fone. I flashed few roms work fine included the one u mentioned. Just a lil reminder backup be4 u if flash anythings!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Treat other GS2's as different phones i.e. those roms will not be compatible with the Epic 4G Touch. Stick to the Epic Touch forums for roms/kernels/images, etc.
As dumb as it sounds, maybe I need some more coffee, but I upgraded my sprint EVO after 2 years to a nice new Galaxy. BUT, I am trying to find the correct subforum for this phone. Sprints site calls it aSamsung Galaxy S™ ll, Epic™ 4G Touch (a mouthful), and the picture looks the same, but I see T-Mobile and ATT with their own galaxy s2 foums and this ONLY says Epic.
So, I am looking for both rooting, ROM's, etc. but want to confirm this is the correct forum, no such thing a dumb question as I would rather ask then brick!
Thanks
This is the right place. Its Sprint variant of the GS2 which they call the Epic 4G Touch.
lol, thanks. ROM playing was horribly addictive with the EVO, and I'm bored now with the stock on the g2. Got the OTA update installed this AM, but now ready to have some fun.
Onto the dev forums
Thanks again!
No problem.

Cool, thanks again to all and yea, s2, or something, nice and clean!
As for ROM's, I am looking at the main thread here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1268548), so any .02 on what to do 1st?
I know with the EVO, ROM manger was a simple way to go, from there was CWM, but it seems ODIN is the real way here huh!

Congrats man on the new phone. No the rooting process I'd going to be different on the epic. Sfhub has created a one touch root method that is definitely the most user friendly, and is highly recommended.

Welcome to the tribe....... Sfhub's one touch root method definitely way to go.
Great choice man on a phone but forget the way you thought with the Evo in some cases and do hardcore reading up on your new phone prior to doing anything since it will save the million and one questions you may ask. Check out the wiki section as well for some great tips. Enjoy and welcome aboard - just do me a favor and read read and then read some more

Thank you....I do like the thinness of the phone compared to my evo.....it is pretty large though!
I am VERY familar with rooting and restoring roms on my evo, I think I did it about 100+ times.
It was pretty simple, download Unrevoked and bam! I am looking at Odin and Sfhub's one touch root method.....so...One of them should be fine.
I dont understand what the modems are used for. Do most ROMS come with them? I understand that they are used to communicate with Carrier towers...but is the higher version always better? What are they compared to on an Evo, if at all.
Thanks!
qbking77 videos show you how to root and everything you need. He's a great guy.

IMO the best method to root then install cwm is to.flash rooted el29 with the Odin method than use the one click to install cwm. Thats how I did it at least.

Yeah, I just got mine last night and this is what I plan on doing at work today. Mine is on el29 so as I understand it I would want to flash rooted el29 then install cwm in autoroot. Once I've had it for a few days I'll probably start testing out third party roms but I have a weird thing where I like to run stock(ish) for a little bit just so I get to know the phone and know what "baseline" performs like. Also, I already like this phone stock more than the Evo with Sense. Touchwiz seems much less intrusive and overly glossy. Only little annoyance I have is that when I did OTA update to el29 I lost scrolling wallpaper so I may jump to calkulins rom just to get that back.

please don't flash the international ics rom either..... *drops mic and walks away*
Ive had my Epic 4g Touch for a couple of days now. Im coming from the Evo 3D. Touchwiz sucks compared to sense but this phone feels more powerful and smooth. Evo 3D also has a bigger dev support here in xda. Hopefully this changes considering this is a relatively new phone. I love the big screen on this phone and how thin it is. Im keeping it untill HTC comes out with at 4.5+ inch phone. Go to youtube and looks for qbkimg77 videos on this phone. They are very helpful.

First of all unrevoked is only for HTC devices in the Dev section you will find the Auto root its quite simple not as Unrevoked but quite helpful, then I would recomend you to run stock with root a couple of days and start with Calkulin's ROM, UnNamed, and other stockish roms with goodies and then flash everything you like as kernels(Rogue Hitman, LosKernel, etc) Modems(EG30, EK02, EL29, etc) of course rooted and other ROMs (CM7, CM9, etc) and always have a backup and Odin installed in your computed

I have a virgin mobile SPH-D710 Galaxy S2 and I am looking for a stock rom. Or at least a way to remove Superuser. I noticed there is almost no development on this specific device.
I can't actually recall how I managed to put superuser on it, I did it a few months ago and it's my gf's device. Now she is having issues and is going to have to send it back. Would doing a factory reset work? I also noticed that titanium backup says that there isn't any root access so I am not sure if it's just broken or what.
Wrong device. This is the sph-d700!

My bad, thought this was the touch forum. Mind locking this or moving it to the epic 4g touch forum?
This is confusing. When I google for epic 4g it gives me pictures of different phone.
