I have the SD card that came with phone, which is locked to t-mob. I got a 2nd 2 gig card and formatted that and did the gold card thing, now I have the orig SD card in. Is phone still carrier unlocked? If I downgrade and install Rom from the 2 gig card and then put the 8 gig card in will it still work?

I take it , the t-mobile is the 8GB card ??, You should be able to format that anyway - if it is 'locked ' there will be a work around.
- (can you explain sd card locked to me ??- or are you saying that this 8gb sd card has the tmobile rom on - but is editible (ie - you cant take and add stuff to it freely)
( if your saying your PHONE IS LOCKED TO T-MOBILE - then its not to hard to sim -unlock and flash roms too, )
!!! TOP TIP - DONT UPDATE YOUR SOFTWARE VERSION AS PAST A CERTAIN SW VERSION A DOWNGRADE WILL BE REQUIRED TO S- off, Sim unlock ect - YET !!!
Ok - your trying to do similar to I have done. Once you have downgraded and installed/flashed a new rom of your choice from your new 2gb card then I cant see a reason why you cant remove your 2gb card and insert the 8gb Tmobile sd.
This should have no massive effect other than your loss of the original tmobile rom and settings.
Be advised though once you start messing with your phone - you'll invalidate you warranty.
Is this phone on contract or from an ended contract ...are you free to do with it what u want ??, ie unlock and use on any network ??
Ive just got an ORANGE BRANDED HTC Desire HD- which was an unwanted upgrade. This was obviously locked to Orange( with orange rom on sd ), I got another sd card, gold carded it, downloaded a rom - placed on this sd and flashed, then put back in my orange sd and it hasnt effected the phone at all..... (you can just wipe you t-mobile sd once youve installed a new rom, Normal format - not fast - use again - then back up you new installed rom to that 8gb card - then you back to using your 8gb card)
If you have an unwanted upgrade or an out of contract phone I d highly recommend flashing a new rom to it, these branded roms(orange rom, tmobile rom ect ect) are full of bloatware and often limited and slow compared to the DEV Roms, even a move to a stock HTC rom will show a great improvement.
Here's a bunch of guide links I used Goldcard, downgrade, s-off , upgrade ect

thank you for the info,
the 8gig card that came with phone has all my camera images of my boy, and apps i have downloaded from market, and any other stuff that is saved to the sd card, so i didnt want to format it to make a goldcard, that i why i used the 2 gig card as goldcard, and lan to use that same 2 gig card to flash roms from, then just re-insert the 8 gig card to have all my apps and images (will apps work after a new rom flashed? or will i need to re download them?)
Plug your 8gb sd into a sd card holder and plug into your pc, explore the sd card, you should find your photo's in gallery, there should also be a folder called apps backup - all your apps should be in there, also check the download folder - you may find some are in there also. just check that youve found every thing you want to save, copy it to a pc - and then you can overwrite that card
ps. the apps in the apps backup folder on your 8gb, can be saved to your pc, you can then wipe the card, goldcard it, downgrade , route install rom ect and then simply put the apps backup folder back onto the 8gb card, then download astro or another android file explorer , look at your sd card when in your Desire - locate the apps backup folder and then just re-install them - no probs - THATS what Ive been doing - today - all works fine

hi all,
as i was testing my new desire using the 4gb card it came with, i did all the rooting with that card in, am now running on defrost 3.1 and all my mods are done.
I tried to partition my other 8gb card using the rom manager on another phone as my phone wont run without the sd card in, then once that was done, i cloned the cards ie copied the data on my mac, then copied it off to the new card.
started the phone with the new card but most features of defrost are not available and alot of the apps are missing.
now when you go to the application manager, it shows you where stuff is installed but it says they are on the phone, presume this is cos a2sd is more of a tricking the phone than a physical change of location for the installed apps
anyway, so my question is, can you change the sd card without re installing the rom?
thank you in advance
anyone????

sorry mate didnt see this till now. in short no.
your phone should work without an sd in it, format the 8gb card use rom manager to partition or use AmonRa fake flash to partition (i prefer this way) and start over again. i know its a pain but its the safest way to do it.
i personally wiped everything on sd and phone so there was no partition and nothing on the phone, then i flashed my rom (dont do any mods yet) then either using amonra or rom manager, partition the phone may take a while to boot up but just LEAVE IT. then do everything again ie mods and apps. long i know but like i said its the safest way also you cant **** anything up.
hope this helps
Hi all. U want to upgrade my 8GB to either 16 or 32GB (want more music for the car!)
I have stock orange ROM (2.1), no root, no nothing (I will when S-OFF is done with unrevoked, but more on that another time!)
Anyways, I have a few apps and data, etc. Is it a case of buying the new card, removing 8GB card from Phone (switch it off first) and copying everything off the current card using windows and then copying onto the 32GB, and then shove back in phone and switch on?
I had heard about encrypted stuff, etc, so wanted to make sure it was as simple as this as I hope! I know my apps are on the internal memory.
Thanks
Here's my problem :
-I made 512MB ext3 on my SD card 4GB
-Installed STOCK FROYO ROM a2sd+
-Phone booted succesfully and worked fine
THEN I :
-Removed SD card (4GB) , and put 8GB one.
-Phone doesn't start , rebooting the white screen "quietly brilliant "
Would the PHONE run into recovery MODE with the 8GB ONE ?
If Does , I Would copy STOCK FROYO ROM ( which installs on the PHONE , not on the SD CARD ) , Kernel , Radio , Flash them , WITH 8 GB ONE .
And then I hope the phone would work ??
Now I Can't TRY This , because my phone is not at home ..
Please help me , im so worried
Make a nandroid
Create a ext partition on your new card.
Copy fat partition from old to new card.
Swap cards.
Restore nandroid.
There at least 3 threads which I replied to with the exact same problem.
TheGhost1233's solution is the right one BTW.

If I wipe the old ROM , Install a new one which doesn't support A2SD ( I Mean ROM which installs on PHONE and doesn't need SD card to RUN) , Then moutn the 8GB card .
Would this work ?
I mean , how to back when I bought the phone .. WHen i bought it It Could work without SD Card , thats what i want to do ... Because after that I Would be able to moutn 8GB card ..
Just copy a rom to the new card (including pictures music and other stuff you want form the old card)
Put new card in the phone
Boot in recovery
Full wipe and flash the rom.
Yes, then you have to flash a ROM which does not need an EXT partition (so no a2sd, d2ext... whatever)

1. Remove the old card
2. Put the new one
3. Via RECOVERY MODE ( I don't know would it work wihout the SD card, Hope so) , Go into mout card via storage
4. Copy the new ROM
Suggest me any Stock froyo ROM , which doesn't include a2sd or any of those. Just a one normal for Phone
5. Flash it , with radio ( Without any KERNEL )
6. ENJOY
Right ?
I have a DHD that was my GF's. I used my old SD card 2GB to root it Running Rev HD. I have now taken all the item's off the 8Gb card that was in it originally.
Can i just put the old card back in or should i put the rom on the 8GB card?? Also i'm under the impresion that the HTC SYNc will be on the original card. Will this cause a problem??
I used th AHK to root.
Please advise
Thanks

you can also download HTC SYNc from HTC site.
I have two microSD cards:
- 1st one came with my SE Xperia Arc S, and has 8GB
- 2nd one came with Samsung Focus (Windows Phone7) and has 16GB
...And thats all I know about them.
I pulled out the second one from S.Focus, and tried to use it in Xperia Arc but the phone acts like there is no card inserted, also tried the other way, with 8GB from Sony in Samsung Focus, with the same result.
Do I miss something here? Is there a preparation needed or something like that?
You will need to format the card from within the phone to get the right file structure.
If you need the data back up to pc,format card, then re place the data back again.

Is there a possibility that Samsung's card is not compatible with Xperia and vice versa?
Tried to format it from within Xperia but that 16GB simply not detected, also format (prepare?) options are greyed out. Maybe would need to format it first on PC them move to Android hm.
If both are "Micro SD" cards, and looks the same(size and shape), then it should be "compatible". If it doesn't work, I reckon the card is damaged, and therefore can't be read by your phone.
From settings did you unmount the card to format?
If card not recognized by phone then only option is to format with pc. Make sure you format with right properties ie fat32.
If after this card still not recognized by phone then think it is damaged.

Try using a PC to copy the contents first (if you need to).
My cards are fine, and working well on their origin phones, the problem begins if I try to swap them.
Well gonna try again, with unmounting first.
Finaly managed to do it after some research....
I will write how I did it, so maybe someone else can find that usefull:
0. Dismounted 8GB card on android menu and pulled it out
1. Backed up data from 8GB android card on my pc
2. Unlocked Focus card with SD unlock (thru the Windows Phone app)
3. Formated 16GB Focus card with SD Formatter 3.1 (full format with erase) on PC
4. Copied saved data to 16GB card and inserted to android phone - everything fine and working well
5. Inserted 8GB card to Samsung Focus (I didnt do anything before, it still has Android data inside)
6. To make new sd card work had to reset the phone to factory but it had custom bootloader and I couldnt do it via hardware keys (soft method was off limits) so I flashed it to WP7 rogers rom (a carrier official rom)
7. Samsung Focus booted and 8GB android card were detectable and working fine.
Not that easy as it seems, cant we just swap the cards eh?
Glad to hear you got them working.....
If the cards are out the box then yes they clean plug straight in .but if used before on different Phones which run different os then the file structure on the card will be different..... So neither can read the other card.
