I have Desire PVT4 SLCD with CyanogenMod 7 (stable). ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.7
Issues are:
1- When trying to flash ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.5 using reflash_package 3.22, it works until it stuck at Running Root. It does not finish the root.
2- When trying to flash ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.5 (img) or (zip) via recovery, it updates and shows new version 3.0.0.5 on screen, but when I reboot Desire it goes back to 2.5.0.7 !
3- Not able to partition SD card via recovery 2.5.0.7 (as it does not show in the ClockworkMod menu) also, when using Rom Manager, Partition SD it switch off and does the work but I never got SD Ext to work.
Please help

Have you made sure you dont have a copy of the recovery on the root of your sd card and then tried using unrevoked to reroot and flash the recovery you want?
If you start unrevoked without the phone plugged in it will give you chance to choose the recovery you want to flash ie: different version of clockwork or AmonRa? I use AmonRa on mine and it partitions the card fine from recovery.
Is this the PVT4 type phone with erasesize 40000? (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853583)
I have one like that, and it was very picky about the Unrevoked method. I found recommendation to use Unrevoked 3.21 with AmonRa 2.0.1.
That worked for me, but AmonRa 2.0.1 didn't want to flash some of Teppic74 ROM modpacks. Then I switched to recovery CWM-AlphaRev Recovery 2.5.1.8, and so far I'm still using that.
Please report back if any of that helped
3.22 didnt work for me either, try 3.14 that did the job just fine

I did it using both clockwork or AmonRa as custom recovery and I got the same result, stuck at Running Root.

I typed cat /proc/mtd and I got
erasesize 00020000 for all mtd0 to mtd5
Let me know if I need to follow your recommendation

Then you do not have the new device type that causes trouble with some Unrevoked versions. You could still try what I said, but its less pertinent now

I rooted my Desire using Unrevoked3 which flashed ClockworkMod to my phone. I tried and then failed to make a Nandroid backup. Looking at the error messages I realised that I have a PVT4 / erase size 40,000 model.
So I tried Unrevoked again and tried to flash AmonRa's recovery. I've tried it three times but the phone is still on CWM.
I want to play around with some different ROMS but would like to have a backup first.
What is the best way to get the ability to backup the phone? I have Titanium Backup Pro but understand that doesn't backup the Rom? Or should I just kiss the Rom goodbye and start flashing?
no i meet the same probleme and solved by using this one unrevoked 3.21 then i made a nand backup.
start alpharev to S-OFF and then you shoul be able to flash your recovery with fastboot
do a unroot and try to root your device again coz you have PVT4

stay on what you have right now if you need a nand backup
i had a similar issue and it was solved by making s-off and then flashing recovery through fastboot "fastboot flash recovery (recovery name).img"
You cant use unrevoked when you are already rooted.
To flash a different recovery, follow this tutorial.
I wouldnt just tell someone to S-Off - there is a chance to brick your phone and unless you really want/need to (flash hboots for example) I wouldnt do it.
Thanks Tillus, this sounds like what I need to do.
So when I followed the instructions to flash_image I get the message that image is not found.
Checking around the place I see that possibly the flash_image command isn't supported in the stock ROM?
Should I use ROM Manager to flash AmonRA?
Hi, you shouldn t try to ash an another recovery while your phones is already rooted and cw on it. As I told I had the same issue. Phone rooted with cmw 2513 but unable to made I nand bkup. I just reload unrevoked which has cmw 2518 and succeed with nand bkup. It s only from that point I started the alpharev hboot. So be caution when using different (cmw or amon ra) recovery. I read lot of ppl bricked their phone doing so.

No you should not since, it will be a fake recovery... Once the phone rebooted, previous recovery would be there.

fragargon is right, with your PVT4 Desire only certain recoveries work, they are AmonRa 2.0.1 and CWM 2.5.1.8.
There can be problems using unrevoked once you have applied it once and then try to use it a second time to flash a different recovery. Look for an apk called zysploit, uninstall this and try unrevoked again. If that doesn't work, then use fastboot (which is the easiest way to flash a recovery).
I have the same model, and got there in the end
| AmonRa 2.0.1 | PVT4 40000 S-Off Alpharev 1.8| HBoot 0.93.1000 | Radio 5.17.05.08 | LeeDroid 3.0.2 (A2SD) | HTC Desire A8181 | UOT Kitchen Mods |
Great! I unistalled zysploit, then used unrervoked 3.21 to flash AmonRa 2.0.1. And it worked.
I now have a Nandroid backup and so I can embark on my new ROM journey. Thank you ghalalb and fragargon!

I'm looking for guide step-by-step howto install CM7 on HTC Desire, Phone is not rooted so this need to be done first, also need some guide.
Problem is that phone is PVT4 40000, is there any way to install that CM7, S-OFF nad other stuff without problems?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
Partially wrong/right.
You have PVT4 so when you root you need to have AmonRA recovery installed instead of CWM recovery (this comes with Unrevoked). Download the Amon recovery and when you run unrevoked, don't plug your phone in. Go into the menu, top left in the program, select custom recovery and select the AmonRA.img file. This will flash the right recovery for you. I should point out just in case that when you have rooted, backup your current rom by going into recovery and going to backup and restore then backup.
S-Off isn't necessary but you can do it. All you do is go to http://alpharev.nl, download the Flash Utility, burn it to CD or USB and boot it in the POST check. Read the stuff on the utility and also follow the instructions on the website.
After you have rooted at least, you can flash CM7 (if your S-Offing then do this after that). Put CM7 on your phone and gapps (links are both in the CM7 thread), then flash CM7. Reboot then flash gapps then your done.
So as I've understood, first CM7 then S-OFF, right?

I own a PVT4 Desire as well and what I did was: first root it by Unrevoked, then update Clockworkmod Recovery, S-OFF and CM7. Worked as a charm.

Just dont flash any d2ext ROM if you wanna S-OFF, some stock one would be best.
After you S-OFF and change partition table to your preferences, flash the ROM you wanted. ;-)
I've got warning "is your firmware to new?" is there any way to fix this without wiping all data?
fixed by installing once more unrevoked (normal) there were errors when entering recovery, and then I've once more installed unrevoked but this time using amon-ra and all is OK now, so the phone is rooted and S-OFF, tomorrow I will try do nandroid backup and update to CM7
Hey everyone. I need help here, I am still a noob. Currently I am using a htc desire. i managed to root my desire after setting the install location back to 0. Previously i did what this website ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13557827#post13557827) said, to move my apps to sd since i am still using unrooted stock rom.
Apparently, after rooting, the clockworkmod recovery was not installed properly. it says that some files cannot be found. So i end up rebooting the device.
this is what that is shown in the recovery mode.

udK's thread on the clockworkmodrecovery. But the same things as above still appear on the recovery screen. i also downloaded the update.zip file from leedriod and update thru zip from recovery mode. the same thing is shown on the screen. So, Can i still use the clockworkmod recovery to flash custom rom? P.S. i had rooted my desire, the next thing left to do is to S-OFF my desire, partition my sd card and flash the custom rom. What should i do next?
this is the information when i check my hboot version.

Yes you can give that a try though, I highly doubt it has to do with the recovery itself as you were able to start CWM.
You have PVT4 device, which means CWM 2.5.0.7 won't work on it. Either use AmonRa 2.0.1 or CWM 3.x.x.x

But my desire had never been rooted before until yesterday. The only thing I did was changing the install location via pc for unrooted stock Rom. But I did not change the location back when I start to root my desire. After that I change the location back to 0 and the root was successful until the installation of CWM recovery.

oh ya.. currently, i had burn the alpharev into my cd. but my computer wouldn't seem to boot from cd. the options i had in my setup is choose priority of hard disc ( which the cd/ dvd rom is not there. and the device to boot from, only has the hard disc and removable device. i chose removable device but nothing happen at all. what can i do ?
If you can't boot into CD then your in a bit of trouble trying to use the CD option ?
Maybe the USB option might work for you, all i had to do on my pc was F12 on boot select cd once the screen went dark plugged my phone in and followed the onscreen instructions really was that simple.
Have you actually shut down the PC rather than restart ?

I tried going all the way back to Radio 1.36.00.04.02 which ended badly and I got the 5 buzz instead of the single buzz boot loop I get on 11.19 and 09.01. I was running an Euroskank CM7 rom, but I decided to flash newest Tiamat kernel.
So I did and after reboot, things worked fine. But after few reboots, the phone stopped seeing SD Card and the system booted very crippled because I am using mount2sd script. So, I though that it's because the kernel was too new. Newer kernels have the well-known problem with timingout too soon while waiting for the sdcard to initialise. This leaves some SDcards undetected during 9 out of 10 boots.
The only strange thing was that the card was also invisible from CWM recovery which never had this issue.
Anyway, the only way left for me to fix it was to try to flash *.img files from nandroid backup using fastboot. However, the only thing I achieved by doing that is that now my phone doesn't boot at all into system. After the S-OFF splash screen it restarts, and goes back into recovery.
I have since uploaded AmonRA 2.0.0 recovery and tried copying to the phone /system/ and flasing boot.img from oen of the cm7 euroskank kangs, but it didn't change a thing.
The phone still does not boot and it cannot mount the sdcard (I tried three - two are know for having this timingout problem on newer kernels, but the third one I _think_ was compatible with all kernels).
So, what can I do at this point? I am running linux but can switch to windows if necessary.
Try flashing 4ext recovery, u can click the PB99IMG 4ext recovery in my sig and download the zip file and extract it then flash the recovery.img or u can do it the PB99IMG method, instructions in the link. Then try restoring nandroid or flash the rom again. 4ext recovery is way better than CWM or Amon-ra

Yes, I know it is better. Unfortunately it is also unusable because it is using the newer kernel than CWM or AmonRA and therefore is burdened with the bug (affecting all linux systems, not just android, but while on computer it is an inconvenience, on android it is a killer) of not seeing some sdcards.
However, I managed to solve the problem using paragraph 13 from this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275632
I just wish I found it 10 hours earlier.
