[Q] [Question] - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Perhaps this isn't the place to do this but I am brand new to this...
I flashed my EVO 4g last night with Cyanogen 7. I love it! But what all can I customize? Battery image? Lockscreen? Boot animation?
Hell, if you have any suggestions of what new ROMS to try, please post away. I have the next three full days to tinker with my new EVO. Any suggestions would be amazing.
Thanks!

here is a good start for you...

download the .apk from that link, put it on the root of the sd card, use a file manager to install it, and it will be in theme manager. apply the theme, reboot, and away you go.
There are also many other great themes that are flashable .zips like Matted Blue. Just download the right file.
if your post starts with "question", it should probably be in Q&A.

This gets asked SO much
Remember people, search is your friend. It won't bite!
In my experience, most theme authors have mini instructions on their first post of the thread anyway.
It's no skin off my back though, in General you do this:
Rename the zip file "update.zip", place in the root of your SD card, turn off phone, hold power and home buttons, ... wait for it to boot into the recovery screen ..., alt + s
Before following these instructions, check on the first post of the thread that has the theme you want to install. Like anything else you do in the recovery console... you could brick your phone... blah blah blah. Use the search if you are confused or in doubt about any of the steps. It has a lot more information than I and infinite patience.

Thanks but, I have tried the search and also did the above what you have suggested. And it freezes at the G1 splash screen. A tutorial should in a sticky if there is one anyways right?
you can only use a theme thats made for the rom you are using on your phone eg. Rc-30 ADP1 RC-33
When you install a theme, will it erase everything?
If i brick, how can i recover my phone
All i do to put a theme on is re-name the theme file to update.zip and alt +s?

Theme Request - Gears of War (I help too)

Title says it all.
Please no fanboy or anything comments. I have been looking for some good animated wallpaper, but I can't find any.
If anyone is good at making them, I'd really appreciate help in contructing an animated wallpaper.
I know it requires multiple images, but this would be my first time and I wouldn't know where to start.
Maybe the COG on this site: http://scathingaccuracy.com/article.asp?guide/2008.09.22-Shepton
You could take away the skull, and edit the cog so it spins clockwise?
Ideas are welcome, maybe we can get a group of people and make a totally amazing wallpaper.
I am also up for for helping make XBOX 360, PS3, Wii, or any video game themes as well.
this would be awesome,, imagine a gears of war boot animation, or better yet a 3.0 sense lock screen,, this would be super sick,,, I've seen quit a few over at the sensation forum but none here.
I have a gow3 bootanimation that I made for the 3d I can port over and i can make a lockring if you want
now the voices are in 3d
oh heck yes,, that would be awesome,,, I will be the envy at my job,,, with gears release right around the corner this is going to be super sick...
thanks
Ok I'll port it over tonight and hook up a gears lockring
now the voices are in 3d
here is the lock ring and bootanimation.
unzip and place the lockring.zip and bootanimation.zip on sdcard and flash through recovery(sense based)
press here enjoy

I'm using Synergy RC2, haven't tried it yet, but when I do I'll post back the results, was looking through the folders and the pics looks pretty cool, and the mp3 you have in there was pretty cool.

I was trying to keep my eye on rom manager during flashing process and abort flash quickly across the screen, then it went in to reboot...

Quick Question about creating Theme Chooser Themes (Cm7)

Hey guys, just had a quick question for you. Pardon my noob. Ive been around here for a while and I know enough to get by... but despite all the flashing/theming images, I've never made any apks. Hence my question.
I really like Sculpted and Black Elegance themes on my phone... problem is there are things I wish I had from both of them. So I went ahead and downloaded both apks on my computer, extracted, took the images from "black elegance" I wanted and replaced them in the extracted "Sculpted" Folder...
What is the next step to turning it back into an apk that will work/install on my phone? Sorry if it's something simple, I attempted to search for a while but eventually got impatient and just figured I'd ask. Any help would be appreciated.
Try this to see if it works. Idk if it will though lol.
Download both apks
Open archive them in 7zip or winrar
Copy the images you want from one, and put them in the other
Back out and save the one you pasted into
Move it to your sd card, and see if it works.
Its probably not that easy, but best to try easy stuff first.

It's way more complicated than that. Everything has to be written so that it will overwrite the existing image instead of replacing the whole apk. It's not in the least bit the same as the cwm flashable themes we've been using to date on the og Epic.

Heya Shane, any chance you're working on making HFE for CM7??? The honeycomb themes out there for CM7 just don't compare to what you and slade put together!

Well..... I've worked on some things for it, but I'm having a hard time getting it to my liking with theme changer. Using cwm and flashing just isn't feasible once we get to nightly status.

Keep soft key mod while changing battery icon

Hey gang. Searched for an answer to this but couldn't find it, so was hoping someone could provide some insight.
I'm running vicious 4.1.1 on my verizon galaxy nexus. the other day i modded my soft keys, and last night i modded my battery icon. in flashing the battery icon w/clockwork mod recovery, the phone returned to the stock soft keys. so then i went back to re-do the soft keys and the battery returned to stock.
is there something i should be doing when flashing new mods to ensure the old ones stay in place?
thanks!
Are they mods applied through ZipThemer? There's a way to have both mods applied through ZT if that's the case.
If not, then just make sure the images for the nav keys are in the SystemUI.apk containing the battery images or vice versa, push the apk to system/app, set permissions, reboot, and you're good to go.

i flashed the zips through clockwork mod recovery. just went to see if i could do it w/zipthemer, but it said it couldn't find a theme within the files.
as for your second set of instructions, just went right over my head. i'm new to this whole process as i just unlocked and rooted about a week ago.
if i unzip the mod files on my comp, will that give me access to the apk file? how do i look at what's in the apk? a search told me ninjamorph - is that what you'd recommend?
sorry for all the extra questions. like i said - still feeling my way around.
Send me both mods. I'll combine the images for you.

Well if the files weren't originally meant to be applied through ZT they wouldn't work.
I'm guessing you're going to take up Zeinzu's offer, but if you still want more clarification about my earlier suggestion, feel free to ask.

yeah, i sent him the images to combine. figure i'll allow myself one get-out-of-jail-free card.
if you can provide some more clarification that would be great as i'm sure i'll run into this again as i get deeper and deeper into modding my nexus.

Does anybody know any way to manually insert gapps as an apk?

I'm trying to get my ROM all smoothed out. It a catch 22 system. I can load the sony xperia walkman and get it functioning properly, or I can install gapps. If I do one I can't do the other for some reason. So, I went with the walkman. Now I'm trying to figure out how to turn the gapps zip into a good apk file to load with android tuner from my sd card. Is that even possible? I was able to manually install a few of the apk's from the zip file, but 90% wouldn't install. I assume because I haven't figured out how to install the supporting files. How can I get the play store functioning, even in a barebones state? There has to be a way... this is Android!!! Lol As I stand now, I have the play store icon, but it only loads for a fraction of a second. No message of any kind. It just doesn't work. Any suggestions would be nice. I'm on the Bleu Mynt ROM if that helps you any.

You and that walkman app, hahahaha, your like me,"never give up",but anyway, open the zip file with the gapps inside and look at the folder structure, add the files to their respective folders on your rom, then you need to look at the updater script, which is in the META folder and see what needs to be symlinked and add the correct permissions for them to work correctly, you can also skip most of the bs,by just downloading what you need from the playstore,as far as gapps goes.Trial and error, you just have to keep playing with it until you get it right,it could be the rom,try a different rom also.

There is no other ROM son.... I'm only going to have the best. Period. Thank you for the answer. I'll work on it later. I'm going to go do some extra work today so I can afford the Galaxy S4 I was talking about buying. Lol
EDIT-----> My extra work got cancelled, so I can play with this all day today.... Makes me happy.
I moved all the files except for the lang_pico file because I noticed it was all languages besides english. I left it out. Is this okay? Everything is in the proper place but the update-binary and updater script. It's encoded and I do not know the name of the code to research. Can you tell me what language it is, and if 7-7ip or Notepad++ needs a plug-in to read/write or otherwise edit the script? What do I need to research here?
EDIT-----> I'm looking for something called Update.zip Manager 3.0. Is this a tool that will help me?

Thanks for that link. I can see I'm gonna have to do a lot more research before I embark on that journey. I need to get familiar with the terminology first. In the mean time, I found a pretty awesome ROM that loaded up everything I need with no problems, and it's very well put together. It's kinda plain, compared to the cool factor of the Blue Mynt theme, but it functions rather well. It's a good trade off. The ROM I have now is the Supersonic Unofficial CarbonROM by Wambo_Bombo. Have you seen this? My question is, do you have anything in the works coming down the pipe? I'd love to have something like this with your theme genius. Thank you for trying to help me sort things out with Bleu Mynt. I know you're a busy guy, and it was, and is appreciated. Let me know ASAP when you have a new release please.

This problem is finally resolved. I found this and it works consistently on every ROM that I couldn't load gapps and the walkman on before. They are called Zgapps. Check them out if you aren't familiar. Maybe you know somebody else who could benefit from them.
