Blank screen, help! - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Last night I pulled my Desire Z nam out of my pocket to find an all white screen. I pulled the battery and attempted to reboot. Upon reboot, all I got was a blank screen (the backlight comes on but nothing else) and it has remained like that since. As I didnt buy this through Bell or T-mobile, etc, I have no insurance or anything on it. Am I screwed?

I think your phone screen cracked... am not really sure but the best thing I guess is to find a repair shop

You are screwed. I had the same problem on mine. Put the phone down for one second. Picked it back up and it was blank. Rebooting and taking out the battery does nothing. I had to go to the t-mobile store and get it replaced as it was still under warranty. I am sorry for ur loss

Try bootloader? Take out battery, put it back, then holding volume down, press the power button.
If you can't even get into bootloader, I think you are pretty screwed.

I've having a similar situation with a black screen when I open it. Seems like the LCD is losing connection. Does sliding it open/closed have any effect?

Bootloader can be accessed but the screen is blank so its useless. Haptic feedback and backlight would still be there. But nothing else

Btw I'm in the same boat. bought a bell mobility phone on ebay unlocked @ full price, and using on at&t. Let us know if moving the lcd to a certain position helps.

something similar to this happened to my G2 and i JUST got off the phone with t-mobile about it. The guy said it was a known issue for the G2. Unfortunately, since you don't have insurance, your might have to spend some money... BUT i would first call HTC. I bought a G1 back in August 2009 of craigslist. after a year or so i was using it and the touch screen just stopped working when I opened my text messages. I called HTC and, for free, they took it in and sent me a new one. I believe its because the devices themselves have manufacturer warranty. So definately call them before you give up!

The screen stays blank no matter the position of it (opened or closed). I'll try giving htc a call but since its unlocked I think the warranty is most likely void. thanks for the replies

[Q] LCD Screen Problems

Ok so I bought the wife a new G2 about a month ago from T-Mobile. The phone is great and we have both been loving it. Earlier this week the wife mentioned that she was unable to use her phone a couple times because she couldn't get the screen to come up. I messed around with it for a while and eventually it started acting up again. While using the phone, the screen would start to flicker (go between the expected image and a black screen), almost as if the backlight was going out (yes I know there is no backlight with OLED), and then the screen went blank. The screen was black for almost half an hour. I tried pulling the battery and rebooting, the screen never came on and the phone booted up completely. Since it was still useless I went ahead and pulled the battery again. I let it sit for 3-5 minutes and powered it back up. The screen came on, started to flicker a bit and then went black (this is at the HTC boot screen). Eventually the phone came back and now it hasn't exhibited the problem in a couple days. I have noticed that this doesn't seem to be a problem with the Z-hinge (seemed like a likely cause at first), as playing with the hinge doesn't seem to make it flicker or reduce the flicker when its happening. At this point I am 90% confident this is a hardware issue unrelated to the z-hinge. Perhaps a faulty LCD driver chip or a improperly seated ribbon cable on the motherboard side. Feel free to offer any other suggestions.
so... the phone has been rooted and has Cyangenmod installed. In order to get a warranty claim on this I will need to flash the phone back to the original TMO rom. This should be as simple as just flashing the stock .nbh file through the boot loader right? I need to do this before the screen permanently dies on me and I have an expensive paperweight. My other question is if anyone knows whether T-Mobile will send me a new phone replacement for this? I'm under the impression that when you do a warranty exchange you are sent a refurbished model that has been repaired. The phone is only 1 month old and I don't want a refurbished 6 month old phone to replace it, although I don't know if I really have many options.
Okay what method of prem root and s-off did you do? Because if u used the 1st method of prem rooting and s-off useing unforgivens way you need to hex edit to properly flash the PC10IMG.zip stock rom or u will get simi bricked phone. Am not familer with rage so I can't really explain that. As for gfree method you should be fine flashing the orginal stock rom but have more procedure to turn on S-on

I used the gfree method described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2 using the full method that does the radio S-OFF, Super-CID and simunlock.
Hopefully I can just do something like what they discuss here: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-unroot-t-mobile-g2-htc-desire-z-complete-guide/
Thanks

The backlight may very well be faulty. This is not an OLED screen. Its just a standard LCD display.
I would get it exchanged if I were you.

Just got the new G2 in the mail, rooting it now. I was under the impression that the H2o had an amoled display and not a standard backlit lcd. Is this incorrect?

No the g2 has a normal lcd

The G2 has an S-LCD. An better LCD screen developed by Sony.
HTC started to use S-LCD because samsung couldn't make enough AMOLED screens for HTC's Desire phones.

Display problem!! Please help!

display does not always work. The phone is not rooted. So I don't use set cpu or anything like that. The problem that I am having is when I turn the phone on (after it is shut down) it does not display the htc logo, then when it gets to the g2 it does not display that either. When the finishes turning on the screen is still black. I can press the digitizer where I know the unlock is and I can feel it vibrate then when I unlock it I can still feel it vibrate when it unlocks and it takes about 2 to get the screen on from this just pressing the on and off power button. Some1 please help. PLEASE HELP!!! Any Ideas?

I searched other forums and seems like I am not the only one with this problem. All they suggested was to take out the battery, mem card, sim and leave it for a while and then put everything back in, the display was working fine again. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me, not even restoring factory default, not to mention going through that painful "shooting in dark" process.
I am already aware that if all things fail, LCD has to be replaced. Other than that if anyone has any other suggestion(s), it'd be much appreciated. Otherwise thanks anyways

I am going through same problem. Haven't found a 'non-LCD replacement' solution yet. Maybe the above will make things work for you. There was one guy who said he turned on the phone without the mem card. So you can try this as well.
If you find anything else, please share.
Good luck.
I didn't think it was a dead lcd because after about 2 minutes of the phone already running the lcd will turn on again. and I saw your thread that said to take everything out I did try that and it did not help. any other ideas?
Does the screen flicker? If you open it up halfway and gently nudge the flex cable, does it do anything?
I juat tried and it does not flicker at all. Once the screen in on there are no problems, its getting the screen on that's hard. Its realy weird. And it started about a week ago and the phone is out of warenty.

It doesn't sound like it should be a problem but I want to root it. And install a custom rom, and I am scrared to do that because when I boot into recovery I cant see the screen.

How can it be out of warranty? G2 wasn't released until October 2010 and HTC provides a 1 year defect warranty. Here is the link. http://www.htc.com/www/support/warranty.html. I didn't look at anything outside the US though.
This is not a caused by physical damage so should be covered??
Also, Tmo, if that's who you're with might just send you a new one?
I'm assuming you don't have the Asurion 5.99 plan? That would cover it for $130 last resort.
Oh, also, Visa or Mastercard will sometimes take care of you if you used it to purchase the phone so check with them in a pinch.

[Q] Help Needed: Phone on but black screen

Hi all, appreciate if anyone can tell me what is wrong with my phone and how to go about it.
I have a rooted phone, but can't remember the exact ROM as it was done sometime ago. All I can recall is DK Custom Froyo.
What happened was:
1. I noticed that there is something wrong with my GPS as apps requiring to determine location all can't work.
2. so I decided to flash a new ROM.
3. did a back up and downloaded the new ROM and radio zip file into my SD card.
4. tried to go into HBOOT, but nothing moved.
5. tried to turn on phone and ended up with a black screen
I still get the green blink light for notification but no screen, can't see anything at all.
Additional info:
Able to call the wildfire through another phone.
Can anyone help me please?
Can you get into hboot? By pressing volume down and power button?

Does the display light up at all (white screen or htc logo) ?
If it doesn't then probably the lcd display is broken or it has become disconnected from the phone.
P.S. can you answer that call???
I did press the power + vol down button but black screen.
The screen doesn't light up at all. I managed to answer the call.
Then the problem is probably in the lcd display, try to disassemble the phone by yourself and look for something broken or take the phone to a repair shop.
Did the phone fall?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Nope, did not drop the phone. I have sent in the phone to a repair shop for them to take a look.

The person at the repair told me that it was a fault with the LCD. So they did a replacement and everything is now fine.
What I find interesting it that while my HTC was being repaired, I swap the SIM card to a spare phone. The spare phone after a day of use spoilt as well. So I thought that it might be the SIM card and got a replacement for that. After mentioning this to the person at the repair shop, he insisted that a SIM card will not spoilt the phone like that.
No issues since the LCD and SIM card replacement. Hope it helps.
thank you for your reply. i have spoken with the support today. they told me the display would be broken (something with its light inside), i should send the phone to the repair. they will check it, repair and send back.
if the phone is back, i will report in detail what excatly was broken.
Destroy Simcard don't let it fall in wrong hands

HTC One Reset itself and is now stuck on Verizon splash screen

I have had my HTC One for 25 days now. I am not rooted and completely stock.. I was listening to Pandora at work with phone plugged into my work laptop. My phone reset itself and wouldn't go past the Verizon splash screen. Not wanting to lose my photos of my kids, I took the phone to a Verizon store and had them check it out.. they attempted a fast boot and asking them phones recovery which led to being stuck at the Verizon splash screen. Finally the tech factory reset my phone losing all of my photos and the phone made it to the lock screen only to reset when unlocking the lock screen and then freezing again at the Verizon logo on the splash screen. My phone also won't power off. It has been stuck on on the splash screen the past 5 hours. Verizon said there was nothing they could do in store.. anyone have any ideas on getting the pone back to normal? I've had zero problems prior to this and loved my phone thanks

They really sent you out of the store with a non-functioning phone? What the hell are you supposed to do? Call HTC?
Not that it helps you now, but create a Dropbox account or allow the auto-upload to Google. I don't want to risk being in a similar situation so I have my photos auto-upload when I'm on Wi-Fi to minimize the chance of something like that happening. Sorry man. I wish I had something to offer that might help.

Normally I have dropbox setup to auto save my photos, but I hadn't set it up on my HTC yet. The guys at Verizon kept trying to reset the phone, and finally, they were ready to have a phone sent to me tomorrow, but yeah I'm without a phone until tomorrow afternoon.. They said that the store doesn't handle replacement devices, and that a replacement has to be ordered. I decided to wait and go home and use my wife's S4 to call Verizon and HTC and see if there was any other way to get the photos off the phone, but unfortunately, no one at either tech support could figure out the issue with my phone and the Verizon rep at tech support says that since these phones are mass produced, sometimes things like this happen. I guess the point of my thread was to alert people of the importance of backing up your photos with this phone, and any other information of importance. Also, I'm excited to get my HTC one back tomorrow, the Verizon rep on the phone was also very nice and tried to request a brand new phone instead of a refurbished unit, but was unable to do so. He said that likely, due to the newness of the phone, that the phone may be brand new anyway. I guess I will find out after work tomorrow. Hopefully I get a nice new One tomorrow, and the first thing I will be doing is turning on the auto-upload feature and the Dropbox sync.
That stinks, sorry to hear that happened. Let us know how it turns out, and whether you got a refurb or not.
That's definitely a con to this phone. In some situations, a battery pull can relieve problems sometimes.
Got a refurbished HTC one from Verizon disappointed its not new. Slight gap near the power button but nothing too bad seems to be working great so far.

damn I was hoping we'd get refurb phones from HTC, I don't think I want Verizon taking apart this phone personally.
Idk as long as it's put back as well as the first, no complaints here.
I'd jsut send it back until one came that is perfect.
I've sent back I think it was 4-5 htc rezounds refubs before I got a good one.
damn, refurbs already? That didn't take long.

just hold power for ten seconds.. or power and volume down.
easier than a battery pull, IMHO.
Just keep calm .
So i recently forced mu htc to get stuck at verizon with xposed module.
And got a working solution, as the phone gets stuck just run:
1. adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.DELETE -d package:com.package name
2. adb shell pm uninstall -k com.package name
witch the package would be the latest apk you have installed it, it will give you errors cant not find or access.
just let is go on and then it goes ON worked for me.
Hope it works fir the next guy with the same problem.
Xposed puts a flashable disabler zip on your sdcard (Exposed_Disabler_Recovery.zip). All you have to do is boot into recovery and flash it. That will dissable the exposed framework, and all related apps.

Unrooted LGG4 LG-H815 went dead..

Couple of nights ago I was texting, my G4 suddenly froze on me. I tried pressing on the power button for 10 seconds but it didn't work, so I took the battery out..
Now here's the issue, when I hit the power button it gets stuck at the LG logo screen.. Then it shuts off again..
I've tried doing a hard reset, safe mode and etc.. Not none of that seems to work, it's like my phone has been completely wiped out.
I don't think it's bricked, because last night I tried the safe mode method again. Blue light came on and it started to initiate the apps again, but it got stuck at 1% and it shut down again..
I need help and I hope someone in here knows what's going on, keep in mind. I have never rooted my LG-H815 phone, been stock since I got it..
So please, give me some info or guide me to a solution.. I don't feel like buying a t-mobile branded LGG4.. [emoji30] [emoji22]
Happened to me too, left it on the charger overnight it tried to boot up but bootlooped then died and never turned on again. This was also when i was not rooted. Sent it to bell who sent it to LG and i got a brand new phone back, it kind of sucked because i paid to have it unlocked and obviously the new phone wasn't unlocked so i paid to get it done again. But LG sent me a brand new non refurb back in 4 days and said the motherboard was faulty on my phone. Sometimes lemons happen but LG was surprisingly great as ive heard nightmare stories about them but not in my case.

Damn, I was thinking it might be a motherboard issue as well..
I called LG directly and they said they couldn't help me at all, since it was a trial phone and it's not covered by their warranty. I wonder if t-mobile can help me out.. I doubt they will though, but I'm going to try it out..
Thanks for the reply!
