Hey guys I need to unroot and i am trying the shipped RUU and I always get two failures ( not hooked up USB, or battery below 30%)
is there a ROM here I can flash that would remove root? I cannot check the wiki due to it being down
If you are going to unroot you need to run the RUU. Just plug it into the charger for a while. Also make sure HTC Sync is installed on your PC. Hope that helps
Sent via the Sprint HTC EVO
yeah i got sync on now, had to uninstall droid explorer to get things going but it still does not flash the unrooted imgine
Hmm... at what point does the RUU error out?
Sent via the Sprint HTC EVO
What RUU are you using?
I can not find a true factory shipped from for my evo, I'm wanting to do the exact same thing the OP is trying to do, no luck in finding an untouched stock rom. Goin crazy over here!
Maybe I am misunderstanding. Do you just want a ROM that is stock with no root access? That will not get rid of the NAND unlock. Just super user access. You would still be able to boot into recovery I believe.
Sent via the Sprint HTC EVO
it now times out and shoots back a "incorrect bootloader" I assume its because i'm on 1.45 and trying to the stock release one
anyone have a link for the lastest RUU with out any mods

I'm assuming you've been able to connect it before? to get rooted? using adb?
If so, I had the same problem, and actually had to reboot my computer. For some reason the dang usb drive just stopped working. Rebooted computer and it connected.
If you haven't used adb or don't know how to get the computer to connect to the phone, check the first thread on the development forum about adb, here:

Hopefully, you didn't lose your usb connectivity on your phone. If so, you'll need to check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243&highlight=bricked+usb

Did you try unplugging the USB from the phone and plugging it back in? Or a reboot?
I thought adb was only for rooting your phone? From what I read to do a stock rom you just need to have a USB connection and run the .exe from the PC?
yeah I'm gonna reboot now, as we know HTC software is not problematic

Sounds like this problem. He has to start with the first rom, then do the 2nd rom, then do the 1.47 rom.

Before Odin can detect it you must first make sure your computer can detect your phone. That way you'll know if the drivers work fine. If it does then get a new USB cable to connect it while using odin. I got a rocketfish usb cable and it works better than the samsung one...or any usb cable such as a blackberry's works fine.

When trying to root make sure you aren't using a stock samsung usb cable. Some have been successful using them while rooting but for most it sucks. Are you enabling usb debugging?
I am having the same problem. Gingerbreak failed to run with the same error, and no amount of different cable or port (tried three of each) will avoid the phone not connected message when attempting one click root. I'd love to hear ideas to resolve either of these or other rooting options.
Update - tried the Bonsai unlocker mentioned in this thread, and tried the one click method on a second machine to which I had never connected my device. In all cases, got a phone connection failure. And yes, I have enabled USB debugging, and when I disable it, I am able to mount the phone just fine and see the external memory card, so there's nothing wrong with the USB port or cable. I have a relatively new replacement phone that came preloaded with Froyo. Maybe something has been done to newer devices to disable this ability? Can't imagine what else could be wrong.
thanks,

My bad - apparently I didn't have the right drivers installed. I assumed since I could connect in USB mode without debugging I had the right drivers, but apparently not. Sorry to bother. In case anyone else runs into this, I apparently can't post a URL to help you, so go look for a post on the Epic "All Things Root" forum on Android Forums,
It appears I am successfully rooted after having to reboot the phone once after a failure the first time I ran. Woohoo! Now I can do a true full backup.
-- robert
The only way I could get mine to work (I would get the same errors using gingerbreak) I restored the phone to factory settings using the samsung recovery mode. Press power volume down and camera button. Your volume buttons are used to highlight the text and the home key is used to select. Wipe cache 3 times, and wipe the dalvick (spelled wrong) 3 times, then reset phone back to factory settings through here. Remember you will lose everything so back up your apps using AppBrain. I ran GingerBreak again and it worked perfectly. I would also get the same errors when trying to odin. Its been that way everysince I updated to 2.2. By the way I am EC05, did that before I updated because I was running midNight Rom.

Problem:
Cannot choose how to connect to PC(no usb options appear on the phone), the phone starts charging as soon as I plug it in.
Possible Cause:
I connected my phone to a USB port on a car stereo and my phone and the stereo kept flipping back and forth between screens. I disconnected the phone immediately, but the USB connected icon was still in my notification bar. I restarted the phone and everything seemed fine until I tried to plug my phone in 3 days ago.
Things I've Tried Already:
-Restarting the phone
-Pulling the battery
-Trying different USB Ports
-Trying different cables
-Trying different PCs
-Trying USB Debugging both on and off
-Trying fastboot on and off
-Trying an "auto-mount" app(Multi-Mount SD)
-Trying "USB Mass Storage" App for Jelly Bean
-Setting Disk Drive mode as default and turning the "Ask Me" option on and off

I was thinking about it, but this one has been working fine for months so It seems unlikely to me that that's the cause, especially when i haven't come across anyone running the same ROM with the same problem.
I'll still think about it, I dunno what ROM I'd switch to though. I liked CyanogenMod 7 but that one wouldn't run videos correctly for some reason :\

Yup. I just tried using USB Mass Storage app for JB, and that doesn't work either, although apparently the app does know that the USB is plugged in.
Most likely a port problem on your device. Go to a repair shop and see how much they charge

I found this one(the bottom one), but it says I have to be connected to a PC to get it to work. Also, I'm from America.
First flash a different rom see if the same issue happens in that rom. You can also boot into recovery and try mounting the sd card before flashing a ruu. You may also want to reinstall the drivers for your phone (the drivers on your pc).

Hello Everyone,
new member and first time poster here! What a community!
I've run into some serious battery drainage after installing 4.1.2 on my AT&T Note II; the battery will sometimes drain 15-20% an hour in standby mode, sometimes less but still drastically worse than before the updates when I'd get a solid day and a half. It seems to think that the SD card is constantly ejecting and so it will remount periodically-- this, I'm sure, is the chief issue. After browsing around here and googling for a couple hours last night, I've seen various "fixes" involving my external microSD card, but none of them seem to help.
Anyway, I've been wanting to root and flash a custom ROM for a while now, but have been lazy; alas, I am finally compelled to do it today. This all brings me to my question:
Why won't Win 7 recognize my note II? I know there have been many posts here at XDA regarding the terrible samsung drivers etc., yet everyone seems to be rooting their noteII, sIII etc. just fine! I've installed the correct drivers, rebooted a couple time-- nothing! I'm hoping this issue has been resolved and I'm just overlooking the thread... can anyone provide any insight? Can't wait to root my first phone!
Thanks in advance
20% per hour on standby is a ridiculous amount. .
Did you take an OTA to update the device ??
Either way. ..
That level of drainage needs a fresh start. ..for sure. .
I would consider pushing a rooted stock build via Odin first. ..to confirm your device is okay.
Verify your driver package and download Odin for the test. ..
You need to track the battery drain issue first. ..imho

solid-- that's exactly what I'll do.
Btw, maybe 15-20% is a bit inflated; that is how it feels though, I haven't really kept track or checked. I just noticed a big difference and, one morning after having snoozed my alarm on the phone, unplugging it and gone back to sleep, my fully charged note was at 80% when I opened my eyes, maybe a couple hours later. I do have odin installed but how am I to do any of that if the phone isn't recognizable?
sorry for the silly questions; I'm brand new to odin and all of this mind you-- am i missing something here?
oh, and yes- the update was OTA

Are you running an anti-virus program on your PC ?? I assume yes, and depending on the maker of the AV package, the program may interfere with the drivers being installed properly.
AV programs often bind critical steps in the function of drivers and views them as unsafe...
Try disabling the AV program while downloading and installing the Drivers from samsung.....g

DM-verity is a non issue with MTP/fastboot/adb. It's usually related to the USB cable or port itself, or a driver issue (fastboot/adb or device).
When you connect and toggle the USB setting to MTP, toggle it to charge only then to MTP again. I've noticed in the past that it takes longer for the PC to recognize or it requires a second try.
