I just noticed that when try recording 720p video on my SRF 1.1.0 Epic, it FCs at around 10 seconds. I seem to recall reading on here it could be an SD card issue, but before I go and reformat my card, I wanted to know if anyone had found an alternative solution to fix the problem.
Rarely use the video camera, so it's not the end of the world having this issue, but it'd still be nice to get it fixed for when I do need it.
Also, it seems to work on lower resolutions, just not 720p.
Almost like my SD card can't keep up with the data rate of 720p video.
EDIT: just occurred to me I didn't mean FC, it just says recording failed.

Running stock 2.2 with Netarchy's 4.1.9 kernel.
Noticed that since 2.2 my recorded videos have been playing choppy (half the frame-rate). If I let the video play through and then start it again, it plays just fine. Even if I go back a second to a part that has been played, it plays fine.
Doubt it's an issue with the SD card because it played fine pre 2.2
Hoping someone might have an idea
My guess is, because of the new kernel, the SD card read speed isn't good enough for the bitrate of the video, and the video is being copied into the phone's RAM the first time through, and by the second time, it's in RAM, so it's nice and fast.

I think you're right, I did a wipe and flashed a fresh install + TI restore. Works perfectly fine. After flashing a different kernel it starts to screw up.
on stock desire, 720p playback on moboplayer or rockplayer, the same 720p videos were runnning smooth (only some rare very brief freeze at times) but on cyanogen using moboplayer, 720p; the video runs very very slowly and sound is totally out of sync.. what settings do i need to change to get playback as smooth as on stock rom??
edit: thought cm7 was supposed to be better than stock rom in terms of performance...
no one has this same problem?
i've had similar problem. let me say first that video recording worked great on unrooted device, then on rooted with stock rom, then on InsertCoin 2.0.1. rom, then back on stock rom (i went back with clockworkmod recovery), then again on Insercoin for a week or so...(don't ask, i did some experimenting )...
but then all of a sudden, after a full week on Insertcoin ROM, without me installing something new or fiddling around, out of the blue, video recording went loco. everything looked ok while recording but when playing video would pause every few seconds, then quickly catch on, then pause again, and so on...as if sd card couldn't catch up writing the video. but that couldn't be the case because everything worked fine before. i forgot to mention, both 720p and 800x480 recording didn't work...
i didn't try removing setcpu app and defragmenting sd card. instead i went back to unrooted stock rom and now everything works fine again. now i'm little tired to root and flash any custom rom over again. if anyone has the idea what went wrong please share...thx!

i will try defragmenting sd card. If it does not work, will switch back to stock rom. Got some other issues with cyanogenmod 7 also.... it is not as great as everyone keeps to say...
today recorded video started pausing again. i forgot to mention it earlier, but i bought new 8GB class 4 SD card and it didn't help. i don't think defragmenting will work (at least for me). it seems that this prob might be hardware related...
I had this problem on relextense hd, just figured it was the norm for the phone
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

i read a few threads on this issue and it seems to me that it's because of gingerbread which does not have the necessary codecs... let's just wait for official gingerbread and see if it works again...
i have tried cyanogen 7 (android 2.3) and miui (android 2.3).. in both roms 720p lags
thx for suggestions, guys. but i'm on stock froyo rom. i'll try removing some apps and see if it's related. after i flashed back stock rom it all worked fine, but now it pauses again. i removed poweramp and rockplayer but no luck. i really don't want to remove all downloaded apps all over again....any other suggestion?
720p works fine for me. Maybe hardware issue?
i have some update on the stuff. today i uninstalled all apps i've downloaded since buying the phone, including the updates to it's native gmail and facebook apps. after that, i restarted the phone and voila, video recording worked again, smooth and steady.
so i went to install all apps again, one by one, and after each one i tried video recording again. the result was that after some apps video was recorded with pauses, and after some it wasn't. so i uninstalled those apps again and tried video recording, but it didn't help. then i went to install them back again but not in the same order as the first time. again video was fine after installing some apps and not fine after the others. but, it didn't pause after installing some apps for the second time, the same apps which i have installed the first time when video was recorded with pauses. so it seems it's not app related after all.
but, after so much installing and uninstalling it became clear that video recording worked flawlessly after each phone reboot. at some point after rebooting the phone video begun to record with pauses again. after some more testing i can confirm that this occurs after installing new (any) apps. as long as i don't install anything, video will record normally. i cannot possibly imagine what can cause such behavior, but for now it seems to be the pattern. i hope it'll help some of you with the same problem. but nevertheless this shouldn't happen at all. i have sent a ticket to HTC support, maybe they'll come up with a more permanent solution.

720p video playback is smooth on your cm7? i have tried cm7 and miui (gingerbread) and 720p video is slow and out of sync with the audio
seems it's related with your sd card.. what class are you using? i think the more apps u have installed, the speed at which sd card is accessed is slower.... my 720p recording/playback is not smooth as well, i have like 60-70 apps installed (lol), that's probably why
Is anyone haveing the problem where you open the camera app and it lags big time? It lags in both camera and video. Then when i do take a video it's choppy and bad quality. Also, if you hit the video button is it stopped to start recording right away or should it flip over to video like other Samsung devices do? Mine starts recording right away.

Yes, I too see the lag.
there is lag elsewhere on the phone as well.

I only notice the lag on the phone, but also sometime in Chrome when I'm on this site. Is your lag bad enough where you can't even take a good video?
yes, it lags to the point that I think my phone locks-up.
I read somewhere where someone said that if you disable your SD card, the issue goes away. Try it, unmount your SD card.

I don't know it just started working again. But if it happens again I'll try to unmount the SD card. Do you know how to get to the video settings? Does the video automatically record in 4K? That will take up a lot of space.
yes, i think by default it is at 4k video. 16 megs when you click on setting while under camera.

Yes, I've noticed that as well on mine. To a point, where the phone almost stop responding when camera is on. I don't think it's hardware related at all, I could be wrong, I'm thinking more like a bug in the software. One easy way to get out the lag for me is to press the power button to turn of screen then turn back on, while on lock screen, swipe up the camera widget. That got rid of the overall lag and lockup for me. I know it will come back soon or later, just don't know what trigger it.
Do you guys get lag from the front camera? When you move, it's not in perfect sync. It also seems to give you a Jay Leno chin.
My wife has a Moto Z2 Play and since she got it she has had trouble with recording video. Several times it has worked, but mostly it stops recording after less than a second (sometimes it saves a 0:00 second video, most times it doesn't save anything). I've tried resetting the app, changing video quality, and changing if it saves to phone or SD card. Oddly enough, I had the same problem on my Pixel when it was brand new and the only resolution I found was to uninstall doubleTwist and their alarm clock app (which my wife doesn't have installed). Any ideas other than reformatting the SD card and a fresh install?
Have you tried booting into safe mode and seeing if it works that way?
After the August Update, recording videos at 4k60 uses the internal storage instead of my SD card. My SD card is a Samsung EVO plus U3, so it can't be speed problems. This was working fine before the update. Any way to resolve this?

Any solution found? Very annoying...this was the only reason that I bought a 256gb sd!!! It was working just fine....I don't understand!!!
+1 same here, worked fine for months, suddenly a deal breaking change like this, sucks big time. Why not implement a choice, I don't get this.
I finally discovered this painful truth last night. WTH samsung.
I found that out also at 1 this morning while recording water pouring through our basement window. I also found out that if you turn your phone sideways to record video in 4K 60 FPS that when you try to watch the video, it will be sideways when you turn the phone sideways to watch it unless me moving the video to my SD card caused it. . That is seriously messed up.
