I was having trouble installing GAPPS in Cyanogenmod 7 stable and I then tried installing an older version. Now I'm stuck with the Cyanogen skateboard screen that then goes to the Google welcome to PC36100-Touch the Android to begin. With and without touching it it goes back to the skateboard screen and continues the rotation. Any help please?
Boot loop, how fun. Wipe and flash.
How do I wipe and flash? I can't get past the above described screens?
Go into recovery, wipe data, cache, dalvik cache reflash the rom, then the gapps. Reboot. If your still getting loops, your either flashing the wrong zips, didnt wipe rigjt, or your data is corrupted. Download it again.
Oops let me add make a nandroid backup cause all your data on the phone will be deleted. Use an app like my backup or titanium back up to save your apps if you want.
Thanks I'll give it a try.
When I flash a new rom I only flash one thing at a time. Ex. Nand backup ... wipe ... flash Rom ... reboot ... wipe cache/dalvik ... flash gapps ... reboot ... wipe cache/dalvik ... flash theme ... etc. I know it takes longer but for me it is worth it because if I get a problem like a boot loop I know which thing is causing it. May not be perfect, may not be right, but works well for me
I always flashed everything at once. Wipe data/cache/dalvik/ flash Cm/gapps then reboot. But yea that's good advice also if there is a problem, I never thought of that.
I haven't had any problems flashing the 7 Stable, but I'm finding it really hard to install the GAPPS. Any ideas or suggestions?
Make sure you have the most up-to-date Gapps

When you flash CM7 and you wipe data/cache/dalvik do all of your contacts and apps come back?

the contacts and your apps will redownload from the market when you log in to your google account assuming you had the backup checked in the settings.
Ok Great- Thanks for your help.
I did all that, and I still don't have GAPPS. And can't seem to add Google sync.

I flashed this rom(I know it's beta) but today it just froze on me. I went to reboot to see if that would help and the phone got stuck on the HTC EVO 4G white screen, so I pulled the battery, hit the power button and nothing still. Just gets stuck on the same screen.
Now, I'm restoring using a backup.
I'd just like to know what happened. I was using it like normal, except I enabled 4G today.
sounds like a rare issue, if you can replicate it with the cm nightlies (being that gginggerbread is discontinued) I'm positive that they would love to see a logcat of it
I unfortunately dont have a fix or knowledge of one for that issue
I agree, wipe everything and flash the latest nightly and then immediately the latest Gapps

Why was it discontinued?
it merged with cm nightlies, they have 4g now
Thanks for all the info.
I've flashed the nightly cm7 and gapps and the gmail app is missing. I can't find it in the market either.
I should probably search the cm7 threads?
reboot your phone, gmail should reappear
you did flash the 20110120 gb gapps, or the one rom manager downloads for it?

I flashed the 20110120 gb gapps. The one in the link from the guy above.
EDIT: Rebooting didn't do the job.
did you flash over your gginggerbread install or start from scratch?
I'm thinking I flashed over?
I installed the latest version of Amon Ra's recovery, wiped everything, wiped cache then dalvik.
After that I flashed the rom.

Whenever you get stuck on white screen, boot into recovery and wipe dalvik and cache before rebooting. If that doesn't work, reboot into recovery wipe dalvik and cache and reflash rom. This usually works for me.

Do you use Titanium Backup? If so, open app list and look for "Market App Installer 1.0". Click on it and hit defrost. Now open up market. You should now be presented with list of GAPPS you want installed. See if you can click Gmail.

Try clearing data in Market menu>settings>applications>manage apps
If this doesn't work, you might have to do a complete wipe and reinstall.

Sh*t didn't work. I just a complete wipe before installing this from ggingerbread-6.
I was thinking maybe I should use Calkulin's format all?

Just did the format all. Now, I've been on the HTC EVO 4G screen for about 3 minutes so far.
Edit: Still not fixed. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi all. I'm currently using MIUI and want to swith to CM7 for 2.3 and 4G. I've been on the Cyanogen forums but to no avail. I have so far tried the following...
1. Flash from MIUI to CM7 #8 through rommanager with wipe.
2. Flash from MIUI to CM7 nightly 8, 12, 17 through Clockwork with full data and cache wipe.
3. Flash from MIUI to CM6 to CM7 through clockwork w/ full wipe.
4. Flash Amons recovery in rommanager and flash from MIUI to CM7 nightly 17 w/ full wipe.
I am currently at a loss. Please throw any suggestions my way.
- Nick
What exactly are you wiping when you say full wipe?
Try flashing calkulin's format_all.zip, then cyanogenmod, then gapps, all within one recovery session (no rebooting/restarting between flashing each one)
Sent from my hand with XDA Premium installed
Try a full wipe, cache, dalvik, and data. Then reflash the rom.
By full wipe I mean data/factory reset, then wipe cache, then dalvik.
Trying Calkulin now. On Cyanogen forum someone suggested a different kernel. I've never flashed only just a kernel. Would I use the same method as flashing other zips?
That's correct, just wipe dalvik and cache before doing so.
So, I did the calculkin format all however I also did something different this time. I started to notice that it would only boot loop after I did a Titanium batch restore. I would normally restore all apps and system data. This time I only restored apps instead of system data and I can reboot just fine... for now.
Would this cause a problem? Restoring system data from a backup inside MIUI and restoring it in CM?
Edit: Now it's stuck at the white screen. Doing a nandroid backup and going to try some other fun stuff. Yay...
I use amon RA recovery and when I was stuck in a boot loop I would wipe data/factory reset, cache, dalvik cache, as well as wipe the system. That did the trick for me. Best of luck!
PS. Not sure of you can wipe system via clockwork mod, I used it briefly before I got aggravated and flashed a better recovery img IMO.
hTC Evo CM7-n17
You can do a full wipe in clockwork:
factory/data reset, and wipe cache from the main screen, then navigate to advanced and then wipe dalvik cache.
The reason I've been using clockwork is because I like using Rom Manager, but I'm not against Amon if it's the answer. Though, I've now tried it, and it doesn't seem to be.
I've been doing the wipes you're suggesting since the beginning. Those aren't doing it. I have a few ideas that I didn't try last night. Gave up after about hour 7 of trying different things.
My next experiment is to switch kernels. But I'm also thinking there could be a problem w/ my Titanium backup. I don't remember specifically, because I didn't notice it at first, but it does seem to only have a problem after I do a restore. Any thoughts on that one??

Well amon_ra isn't the answer. I've used clockwork and had ZERO problems, and still use it. But if you think titanium is your issue, go into it, and click problems, and it'll download the busybox and correct itself. And if you think the kernel may be the problem, it could be, so go for it. Just make sure to use an aosp kernel on an aosp rom, and the same for sense; don't mix them.
Thanks for the advice. Any suggestions on which kernel I could try? On MIUI my kernel is brandon-ThinkPad-T510 #5.

Well I would try the a froyo savaged zen kernel. They all play nice from what I hear.
No fix yet even after switching kernels. I found this link when I was looking up more info http://www.shahz.net/android/what-is-dalvik-cache.html and this section interested me.
"This dalvik cache can grow immensely huge as more applications are installed on your phone. It is safe to wipe dalvik-cache. It will be rebuilt again when the phone boots. This also explains why your phone takes ages to start up for the first time. As for my Nexus One, having about 145 applications installed, it takes about 13 minutes to build the cache"
Could this be what's going on? Is the dalvik cache being rebuilt and I'm not actually getting a bootloop? Do I need to let the blue arrow circle around the skating android for 15 minutes?
Still not working. Tried the kernel switch and the above idea of letting the boot screen run for over 20 minutes. Nothing.
Anyone w/ any thoughts?? Thanks.
Are you flashing the new kernel the same time you flash the rom. What you should do is wipe everything, factory/data, cahe, dalvik cache, then flash the rom. Give it a couple of minutes to boot up. After it eventually boots up, back it up, then flash the new kernel, just wipe the cache and dalvik before you do so.

Restoring system data through Titanium Backup is almost a certain recipe for disaster - especially when switching between different ROMs. Use TB only to restore user apps, and the data associated with only those apps.
The other thing you may want to try is to repartition/format your SD card. Make sure you back it up to your computer first, then use whatever recovery (I know Amon Ra will do it, think CWM will too) to partition and format the SD card. This helped me out when I was getting bootloops...
Good luck!

I don't know what is wrong with my phone after trying to flash SenseGinger v2.1.2 (didn't work) then reflashed CM 7 RC 3 with Mattedblues theme, Then flashed to RC 4. But each time, i can't get a clean install.
Things like Mattedblues theme icons are there when I didn't even flashed the theme Also my old wallpaper is there too when its not even on the SD card. Also now my phones constantly reboots after trying to log into google after fresh install.
I cleared Factory reset/ Cleared Cache/ Cleared Dalvik cache/ Even installed a Blank SD with only the rom.
WHat the hell is going on??? is there is secret cache somewhere i forgot to clear?
help
if you have wifi enable it will do a bootloop, so after a install do a reboot and that should stop...try to do a clean install of RC4, also if you backed up from google it will restore everything even wallpaper

No no wifi no nothing. Tried it even without a google account login and its still goes crazy. I think somehow my past rom data doesn't get deleted, but i have no idea where they are hiding at....
Right now i am doing a full HTC signed rom install and going to see how it goes.
i flashed to cyanogenmod 7 nightlies, and then i installed from the sd the google apps (because the rom didn't come with market) through clockwork mod recovery and when i restart the phone, there is a blackscreen after the htc!!! It doesnt load up the cyanogen mod!! I've been waiting for over an hour!!!
I don't know what to do to fix it!!!
Can somebody please help me. I appreciate it very very much!!!

as mhrsolanki2020 said ... When flashing rom, always boot it, and after reboot flash any changes that you want, like data/link2sd,gapps,gps fixes and so on ...
never flash few things in one step.
also clean cache and dalvik every time you flash new rom ..
I don't think he wiped data or cache.
You can flash cm7 and gapps at the same time with no issues.
I prefer doing it like this rather than multiple restarts and then I setup my accounts on first boot its never given me any problems.
Try again make sure in clockwork mod recovery you:
wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Then goto advance and wipe dalvik
Then flash cm7
Then flash gapps
Restart and all should be fine.
Good luck.
so are those the steps i need?
and can u give me a link of the gapps i am supposed to use please?

can you give me the steps i need to fix the black screen please?
Boot into recovery clockwork mod and do what I said above and you'll be fine.
so once i flash cyanogen i do not reboot first, but i directly flash the gapps as well?
Yes that's how I been doin it for many months
Make sure to wipe the data that I said in previous post or it wont boot.
Its an important step when flashing a rom.
Like the problems that previously occurred.
sorry for so many questions but,
is it either wipe data or factory reset or both?
"wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Then goto advance and wipe dalvik
Then flash cm7
Then flash gapps"
'Data/factory reset' is the same thing
Then 'wipe cache partition'
Then in advance right at the bottom of clockwork mod 'wipe dalvik'
Once done click back then chose install zip from SD
Choose your rom file then confirm.
Then when finished click back.
Then install zip from SD select gapps file and confirm.
Once finished click reboot system.
Done.
will this work for sure? or will it give me the black screen again?
If you do everything I said in the same order it should definitely work my friend.
Is your mobile a GSM or cdma? Does it use a sim card?
Thank you so very much!!!!
No problem.
I'm guessing your up and running And hopefully very happy.
Good luck and all the best.
You're a life saver!!!
So i have flashed for awhile and never have encountered this problem. i was on lbj7 i went back to stock. did Ota upgrade to 4.1.2, rerooted flashed another rom and now all it does is forceclose. How do i clean the system completly so i can reflash a fresh clean install. I normally wipe Delvik+cache+ factory what else can i include to insure i have a 100% clean flash?. Any and all help is appreciated thanks!
Wipe internal storage will erase anything on the internal just as it states. What ROM are you trying to flash? Also what recovery do you have and is it up to date. If you want the ultimate clean install I do this, make sure the and if you need gasps or any other file is on the external card
Wipe data, cache, dalvick, system this removes the ROM, internal and maybe even format data. Flash ROM wipe cache and dalvick and if you need to gasps the wipe cache and dalvick the boot. But make sure your recovery is up to date, I use twrp which is on 2.4.4 right now. And you have the correct gasps if needed. Good luck.

To install TWRP the easiest way just download Goomanager from the Play Store here https://play.google.com/store/apps/...anager&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd open it go to settings and select Install OpenRecoveryScript, This will download and install TWRP's newest recovery. You could also check the md5sum to see if it's a good download. Sometimes the files that you download are corrupted but I have never had it happen, and I have flashed endless amounts of ROMs on different phones, but it happens people say. I am unfamiliar with that specific ROM but try searching in the thread for it to see if anyone else has had similar experiences and have a way to fix it. Searching is your friend, search and read a lot will ussually solve your problem, and if you don't turn up anything don't be afraid to ask a question instead of doing something that might be unsafe or worries you.
I did as u suggested and just tried re flashing using Twrp. Awaiting Results as first boot aproaches. Thanks again for the helping hand.
Just a heads up. Try and hit the thanks button on these forums if people help you in any way. I don't really care about it but it helps some people especially devs and what not.
