I find it annoying when reading ebooks so I decided to turn it off. The setting is located at: sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness. Unfortunately the program I'm using, root explorer, won't let me access this value although I have rooted my phone. Is there any editor program for android like regedit for windows or is there any other way to do this?
Thank you!
I managed to "open as text" (cannot be edited) and the value is 255. I want to change it to 0. Anybody????
I would like this aswell for when im reading.
Thanks

create a new script called
"keybacklight_onn"
type in
echo 1 > sys/devices/platform/leds-microp/leds/button-backlight/brightness
klick on you homescreen klick on "links" (i have a german Phone dont know how it's called on your Phone)

I have a problem. The script definitely works, but as soon as I open an ebook with aldiko reader the backlight turns on again and the same thing happens when I power the screen off and then back on. Is there a way to permanently turn off the backlight?
Thanks for your idea! Why not post it in dev forum, so they can build it in new roms

I think you've misunderstood me (or rather, I just said it wrong ): The lights turn back on when the display has been off... they're not on while the display is off, but if I turn the display off and back on again, they're back on.
Maybe it's because the Desire doesn't have read/write access to the system files?
Is there a way to turn off the HOME, MENU, BACK, SEARCH button light permenatly? I just want the screen on and the buttons to remain off.
thanks
Yes, install "LEDs hack" from the market. Will turn off button lights but needs root.

Tried this app
It's doing its job but keeps annoying me with a warning "... has been granted superuser ..." every 10 seconds or so.
Uninstalled immediately !
Works great for me running Leedroid 2.2e. Check your superuser is up to date as per the initial screen.

Got it working without notifications now. Great app. I'll just keep an eye on the battery usage when the phone is on standby.

Awesome! Thank you for mentioning LEDs Hack. Works like a charm.
Great App!! Thx for mention it!!!!
Hi, I recently found an album in my gallery with 4 screenshots of my homepage. I must've took them without noticing. So I would like to know how I did that. My HTC Desire HD is running on 2.3.5 with htc sense 3.0. It is also NOT rooted and I did not flash any roms. So if anyone could tell me the shortcut to take a screenshot, I'd appreciate it very much! THANKS IN ADVANCE!
thought this wouldnt be possible without root or special apps("No Root Screenshot it")...
on my rooted phone i just press "power-button+home soft-key" to make a screen shot.
oh. that's cool. Did you use an app for that? Because I have a rooted htc incredible s and I usually need to long press my search button and choose ( screen grabber ( an app from market ) ) and it'll take a screenshot..
There are many apps available in the market to do this, and in some rom's it is included (MIUI for example).
No Root ScreenShot Is The Only App That Can Take ScreenShots without Root

It is a new feature on the new DHD stock ROM with sense 3.0. DHD owners can now take scrrenshots by holding the power button and the home key at teh same time.
On the ICS beta roms floating around for Desire HD, you can just hold the power + volume down key and a screenshot will be taken.
When i try to press the power button and home button at same time..it does not take a screenshot.....am i missing something here..
BTW..i have coredriod rom installed..

I use Screecast Video Recorder. It records video and you can also take screenshots by long-pressing the search button.
It does exactly what it says.
There is a free (demo) version if you don't want to pay for it.
However you need to be rooted for this one.
I hope this is what you're looking for..
(Question: is it against the rules to post android market links on xda?)

whoa... had ARHD 6.3.1 for about a month now and I never knew you can take screenshots just by doing that
I use the Screecast Demo to generate a video record, but it was taken with a short duration, Can you help me to increase the duration of my Demo?
thanks dada!!!

Love the screen capture feature ,,, I use it alot ..
BUT I wish you could turn off the camera snap sound, as it looks suspicious if you're making a screen capture in public, like on the train, people will think you're taking photo's of them
Anyone kno how to turn off the sound ?
I think it still comes up even with media/phone volume muted
Hi guys, there's a new eye tracking application that works with HTC ONE X.
Its called Smart Stay, from a developer here in XDA as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1708012
The first version didn't work for HTC ONE X but the latest version works well.
The developer is really responsive, I've sent him a few messages already hopefully to improve the application. and yes, you can use the camera when its running.
There's another one, from another dev here its called ISEEYOU.
It works somehow, but you cant use the camera when the program is active. Hopefully it will be fixed in the future version.
Not working for me...

Doesn't work for me either.

Did you try it?
OP thread says it doesnt support the ONE X, but Im the one who did the testing on the HTC ONE X and got in touch with the developer.
Be sure to download the latest version the one that works, the previous one didn't work.
Also, be sure to turn off your auto brightness setting (not sure if there's an effect but just in case).
Also, when you go to the prograrm, click "turn on", then exit the program, turn off your screen and turn it back on. Now it should work.
BTW, in case you guys were wondering..
Working for me...
ROM: RD MiUI
Kernel: Franco R9
I tried and its working. The problem is the distance control but it will be fixed in the next release.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Just installed and tested it and it seems to work well for me.
Distance needed for it to work might need tweaked but the dev seems to be working on that so should be good.
It works on the One X, the new version changelog sorta confirms it.
But distance indeed seems to be the tricky part. ISeeYou does that part better, but the version 1.2 doesn't work on the One X. So, still Smart Stay is the better now
And also: Smart Stay doesn't break Face Unlock function, ISeeYou does!
new version is out!
with low light support
trying it now..

Dont work for me
The Eye Symbol in the Statusbar switched into a eyelash but the Display turn off!
Edit:
OK Guys just restart my Phone and start the Camera and Exit the Camera then it works! The Symbol switched in the eyelash Symbol when the App dont detect your Eyes.
It works but not as well, i hold the phone 30-40 cm from the Face
nice
it's work for me.....
:good::good::good::good::good::good:
This app does work perfectly, works in low light too.
In regards to the above comments, the eyelash notification indicates that it can't track your eyes so it should turn off then.
Only problem is using this has been putting camera into wakelock so it can keep tracking and killing my battery within half a day.
Great concept and fun to show off but not so good if you want to be able to use your phone throughout the day
press the Volume (down or up) button to Power ON the device from sleep, instead of pressing the power button on the top of the phone,
this way it will be easier to use the HTC One
Thanks
EDIT: i found the solution, just install TrickDroid it has many features including Volume wake,
here is the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192324
This exists. You'll need to root and install Xposed Framework and the Volume Wake mod.

No it doesnt drain battery and the only bugs are sometimes doesnt work from deep sleep. Depending on your software version, there are some nice kernels out there that offer many wake options. sweep to wake, double tap in the bottom inch of screen to wake, menu wake etc.
Most of the custom roms and kernels for this device include this feature.
You can also install it separately using the Xposed framework and Modaco toolkit for the One. Links to both are in this forum (One Themes and Apps).
Next time, please use the search button that you will find at the top of every page. Google and xda-wide searches for this sort of stuff are not recommended as they will take you to apps for other devices, as you found.
Its really easy just as snachez said, you need to be rooted and just download the xposed framework I think the newest is 2.14 or something install the apk then download the modaco toolkit which has the volume mod you want and other cool stuff and install the apk. then open the Xposed app and go to modules, choose the mods you want, reboot the phone and you are set.

When searching for anything related to the HTC One, add an M7 to the search as it is the internal HTC code for the One. This will get you better search results related to the HTC One.
I have Android Revolution HD 10.2 (which I updated from 10.1 without formatting) and the Volume Up to Wake function stopped working even though I made sure to enable it from the AROMA installer. Any ideas?

Flash a non-stock ROM.
By flash a non-stock ROM I am assuming you mean a deodexed one? I may later on try to reinstall your mod but beforehand remove the SystemUI.odex (if there actually is one) because I am absolutely sure that's what causes the FC error, or at least that's the way it was on my Galaxy SIII.
No, I meant a ROM which isn't 99.999% stock (the one you are using).
For example TrickDroid 7.5.0 has a perfectly good volume wake solution which doesn't suffer from problems when the device is in deep sleep
Ah okay. I may give Trickdroid a shot sometimes as it seems to be very popular here. Plus ever since the 10.2 update of ARHD the volume to wake has not been working for me.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Its immensely annoying when you're listening to music though. If you just want to change volume, it turn the screen on. ARHD doesn't have a toggle for it in the settings itself, but trickdroid does. I'm not bashing either one, i love them both

Volume Rocker Wake
After searching xda I came across a way to wake pretty much any phone.
Using Xposed Additions module, remap and assign the volume keys to 'power' action with the screen state set to OFF.
This has been especially helpful for when I'm running stock on my LG G2 (CM 11 has this option baked in).

Yes I'm using it, but it doesn't work once the phone goes in deep sleep, a common problem with volume rocker wake feature
Sent from my Black HTC One
Can you help me with a 4.4.2 stock(rooted) kernel or other workaround in order to have this feature?
I just got the phone and I got used to this method from my previous G2 mini. Also saving the power button...
Thanks a lot!
For the moment I'm using this app(touch and release the proximity sensor to wake) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wolandsoft.wtn It works quite good.
But I would prefer the double tap... If you've got any suggestions, please share...
Check smart screen on off.But it's ridiculous that our device still not supporting the knock on feature as the other devices...Even wp support this.....
