Sorry if this has been asked...having some trouble with search on the XDA App.
What do you guys think is the likelihood of a WP7 version of Amazon's Cloud Player? I've personally read conflicting attitudes about it.
Some say Amazon will naturally spread to all platforms, while others claim that Amazon is specifically investing only in Android. What do you guys think?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
That app is based on Board Express which is... meh.
Amazon is investing a lot in Android. They also launched an App Store with a Web and App interface that rival's the Google offering. They just need more Devs to submit their app there. On my Vibrant I basically only use the Amazon Appstore app now. All the porn, bull**** in Chinese, trash apps that do nothing, apps that aren't even maintained anymore, etc. is instantly filtered out there... Plus, they give away one paid app per day.
Will it spread to WP7? Maybe. Is it really needed? No. Android needs something like that because it's a terrible media platform compared to iOS and WP7. I reckon WebOS may get it. But it really isn't needed on WP7 and iOS, IMO.
The only really good benefit would be the ability to save storage on your device and upload gigs of media to Amazon's servers and just stream it from there. I guess that's a big enough reason to want it for many people...
Yeah, that's a big reason for me.
Then again, I'm probably going to use Zune Pass once I'm on WP7 (I've used it off and on for several years otherwise). Since most of the music that I already own is on Zune Pass, I suppose that will eliminate the need for personal cloud storage. I can always just locally store the music from the few artists who aren't on board with Zune. (I'm looking at you, Tool.)
I think there is a great chance Amazons MP3 - cloud player will come to WP7. Amazon is first a content company. The more devices that can access and purchase content the better for them.
It's a win win with their push to android and also enabling content on other platforms. Plus they did provide WP7 with the kindle and shopping apps.
Have you tried Amazon Cloud Player in IE Mobile 9?
Yes, it works.

do you know its name?
Hello,
I have a sincere and honest question. I came to a conclusion but I hope I am wrong...
- I notice that several months after WP7's launch there is still no official Google Maps app, still no official YouTube app, still no Google Earth app, almost no GPS navigation apps with offline maps.
- All the non official Google Maps alternatives created by third party developers are pretty slow. I asked some developers why, and have been replied that the main reason is that Microsoft forces them to use the apparently sophisticated but very slow Bing map system based on Silverlight (for zooming). As a result the map image takes between 30 seconds to 1 full minute to display on my phone (what a shame). I tested and compared with two iPhone and Android phones using Google Maps, same place, same network, the map image appear in less than 10 seconds.
- Today Shape Services, the developer of IM+ announced that it will not have Windows Live Messenger support because Microsoft doesn’t allow it.
http://www.wpcentral.com/im-will-not-support-windows-live-messenger
Therefore I am starting to wonder why I cannot have Google Maps on my phone. Why so many GPS developers (such as CoPilot or Tom Tom) refuse to join WP7. Or why IM+ cannot have Windows Live Messenger support.... ??
And unfortunately my conclusion is that MS are maybe taking this terrible approach:
* MS refuse to allow apps that they think will duplicate functionality,
* Mainly MS actually want to impose their own services, such as Live Messenger, Skydrive, Bing and Bing Map, despite such services are either not available or mediocre in certain territories. In particular I am thinking of Bing Map which is so bad that it is almost unusable outside UK and US.
Microsoft have the right to take this kind of Apple's approach, ok. But then, as a customer, I would like to know it as soon as possible.
--> Practically does it mean that if I am using WP7 I will be forced to use Bing Map instead of Google Maps, MSN videos instead of YouTube, Bing instead of Google search, etc?
--> Practically does it mean that, as a customer, I will not have the choice between several alternative apps having similar functionality, just because MS will not allow them? For instance, does it mean I will never have the right to use an alternative Keyboard (Swype for instance) instead of the keyboard MS force me to use?
For instance does it mean that there will be no alternative player than Zune? (which also means no DivX|avi, the customer being bound to the only codecs MS will allow)
If so, I would like to know, because it's a weird philosophy, and a philosophy which I am definitely not ready to accept anytime soon... I don't want WP7 to be a new IPhone, even more locked down, with no freedom of choice at all...
Especially if I am totally not satisfied with the quality and efficiency of the various MS services such as Bing.
I probably made the wrong choice after WinMo and was maybe silly to stay loyal to MS.
Am I wrong?
Any clue?
It is google blocking its services from microsoft. They want android to succeed so they dont even give us the code for a youtube app (they gave it to apple for the origional iphone) let alone a google maps. Half of that is pure speculation so don't quote me on it but u try to watch a video in the stock YouTube app (the one in the market made by microsoft) and tell me how it looks.
Not sure why you are surprised, MS has made it clear that WP7 is going to be more tightly controlled than WM was but even then, they are not as draconian as you think. There is a gps program with offline maps available in Germany, Navigon. They have been asked several times if/when their program would be available elsewhere and their response seemed to indicate they were waiting for more users to come on board before releasing it.
As for youtube, MS recently filed a complaint in Europe against google claiming they are not allowing MS the proper access to deliver a better youtube experience. Even then, you have Supertube and Lazytube so I'm not sure what else is needed.
As for google maps, thats a google product and unless it is required that all mapping programs use bing (which is not the case, check GPS Navigator aSpass http://wmpoweruser.com/gps-navigator-aspass-provides-off-like-gps-map-caching/) that is up to google to make available. Swype wont be happening, been said a few time if I recall correctly.
Seems this time around MS it keeping a tight reign on certain categories of applications to ensure WP7 gives a consistent user experience. Just another factor to consider before purchasing a WP7 device.
Thanks for your replies,
So, i understand that WP7 will never have any official YouTube app or any official Google Maps app in the near future.
I can deal with LazyTube/SuperTube to replace YouTube
I cannot deal without the official Google Maps app, as all the other maps are too slow and too basic (no PoI, no Street View, etc).
And what about the fact that Microsoft refuses that Shape Services includes Windows Live Messenger support in IM+
And mainly, what about the fact that it seems almost impossible on WP7 to have:
- an alternative keyboard
- an alternative browser
- an alternative media player?
Whatever IE mobile is ok, whatever the WP7 keyboard is correct, it is a question of choice.
What about if people would like to use Swype instead of the regular WP7 keyboard, or Opera instead of IE?
At least would it be just possible to use such alternative programs? Or is MS' approach to forbid any alternative app?

That would be fine only if services proposed by Microsoft were available worldwide (which is not the case) and were decent (which is not the case).
Well about the browser, I can't remember where I read it, but MS said that they are not blocking any browser application (Surfcube is a example)
Newness and Nokia
Hi all
I think that the problems and limitations of WP7 are to do with the fact that it is a new OS. The Mango update will bring a lot of APIs which developers will use to make better applications.
Also, I don't think Microsoft will let WP7, or any of it's main products, fall far behind the competition and I think that part of the deal with Nokia is to bring better mapping/navigation software to WP7 specifically.
Android has clearly had a lot more investment but in a couple of years WP7 will be a serious competitor.
Cheers

You've expressed your issues with Bing Maps a lot here but as I said before Microsoft is probably waiting on Ovi Maps to integrate into the OS to make the services useful outside of the US/UK. So I think your frustration will last a little while.
As for Google services I would guess it's more about Google not being interested in WP7 at the moment and Microsoft being happy to have that pretext to promote Bing. It's a new OS so I'm sure that will change eventually. Also remember Microsoft filed a complaint about Google so I might not be too far off.
Copilot, Tom Tom, etc. not being there is just about them not seeing the point with a small user base, that should change too eventually.
Now choice I'm afraid will stay limited. I think clearly WP7 wants to be somewhere between Android and iOS but much closer to iOS (for now at least). I think they will want the OS to mature before allowing alternative solutions (Opera and Skyfire came a while later on iOS). So yes I think you bought the wrong phone as I doubt all this will change in the short term and maybe Android is what you need until WP7 is a strong player.
Personally I'm happy the way things are as WP7 aims to be an OS about integration and that's harder to make when there's too much choice. I'm annoyed about IM+ not having WLM messenger but after Mango that would have been redundant (I would have preferred to have it until Mango, they could have removed it later). Ideally they should be aiming to integrate all IM services to messaging (a huge task). Same goes for other services.

That's not completely correct. Surfcube - just like other browsers available on the marketplace - is built upon the IE engine. So all that's different from IE is the UI on top of the engine. Currently it's impossible to provide browsers with other engines like Opera for example due to the lack of APIs. I don't know whether this will change with mango or not.
As a matter of fact, Microsoft is at least partly going a way Apple has been going with their products for years. If you want a mobile device with an OS that you can tweak to your personal desires, you should go for an Android.
Remember, APIs for wp are in their infancy, mango will extend them, who knows how much. But a company like Microsoft push out they first party app and services first is fine with me. If they work right, I won't have to look for an app that does the exact same thing. I love the fact that I don't have to load a crappy Facebook app just to post one thing, or having a built-in upload to Facebook in the camera. And now with the new APIs with integrating apps into different hubs and apps, should "save us from our phones" more.
And for IM+ it could be API isn't available for Live messager.
I'm afraid we won't see any Google Maps before Ovi integration with Bing.
As for browsers all available now are just IE with different UI.
I remember Opera saying they are not interested in making a browser right now.

if the idea is to impose their own services they wouldnt have allowed flory (gtalk) and they would reject im+ (for using icq, gtalk, and many other non ms services).
if this was the idea they would have rejected shazam encore, since they are going to implement the same service.
unfourtunately i suspect that the issue with wlm is the deal they made with miyowa
as you can see they talk about a a "deal" between miyowa and microsoft for wlm
http://blog.miyowa.com/?p=1118
just search more posts and you can see they mention multiple times have some sort of agreement...
i know its far fetched but i think its more likely that the agreement they made included exclusivity until ms made their own native app. IMO this sounds more reasonable than not allowing duplicated functionality
edit:
personally i hate this, i would like to uninstall the miyowa app (its crap) and use im+ while we wait for native wlm.

You might have a point there as everything gets dropped except Miyoma Messenger which is so crap I'd rather not have WLM rather than using it. They should be banned from making another app ever again.

Or it may be with the way IM+ implemented WLM functionality. This could've taken some reverse engineering.

Anyone heard anything about a set date for the Spotify app yet? Mango released and no app as promissed
there was a post at wpcentral about a 3rd party app that is in the works
I would email them. For me they took too long to come to the states, and now require facebook login's so I went with Rdio.
Here's the story on WPCentral
Really missing Spotify myself since I can't get a Zune pass over here.
Spotify doesn't require a facebook login, it's completely optional.
hvakrg wrote on WPCentral that a WiMP client should be available within weeks and that Spotify is going to take a while longer, so that's definitely an option for us Norwegians.
I don't really like WiMP although it's better than nothing hah! Thanks y'all for the replies!

Thought I would share some apps.
These apps are Google Apps for nonrooted devices. I say nonrooted, cause I assume people with rooted devices have already installed these apps.
1) Install Google Accounts Manager, reboot
2) Install Google Services Framework, reboot
3) Install Google Play Services, reboot - Latest working version 7.0.99
4) Install Play Store and login
http://www.4shared.com/rar/xFL01jekce/Google_Apps.html
Side Note: Google Play Store will not function correctly on nonrooted devices, but it still does things in the background so keep it installed. You can now install apps that need Google Play Services to run.
Live TV Streaming Apps. Mobdro, Live Stream Player, Mediahhh and World Sports Streams
http://www.4shared.com/rar/qgiPSrXhba/Live_TV_Streaming.html
Side Note: World Sports Streams uses XMTV Player and MX Player for all streams. I have provided XMTV Player but you will have to install MX Player, cause I use the pro version and I am not giving a paid app for free.
Third Party App Stores. Blackmart, Mobogenie, Aptoide and 1Mobile Market. These are great for installing apps and updating apps without needing Google Play. Also takes away the need for ADB sideloading.

Tips: If you are gonna use the third party app stores do not auto update. Update apps one at a time and look at the version numbers to make sure its an actual update and not a down grade. All the apps I have listed in this post work much better with or require a mouse/touchpad to use.

A few good apps that work well on the fire TV that I think have become essential to my Fire TV experience:
DU Speed Booster
SD Maid
Dock4Droid (Best app I have used on the Fire TV)
AOL On (Not the Fire TV Version)
SPMC
Fast Reboot
8 Ball Pool
Facebook Desktop 2 also called FBD2
MirrorOP Reciever
DU Speed Booster and SD Maid for cleaning. I use DU Speed Booster then SD Maid, cause I have never found a cleaner yet for Android that deletes as much junk as DU Speed Booster, but as with all cleaners there is still junk left so I follow it up by cleaning with SD Maid to get even more junk off my device. No matter what cleaner you use SD Maid can still find more junk that can be deleted so I always use two cleaners. Dock4Droid is probably the best app I have found for the Fire TV. It makes the Fire TV so much better. It adds great multitsking and will also let you see app info from anywhere so that you can delete apps, force close apps or delete their data/cache fron anywhere. AOL On for news videos. Not the Fire TV version the version you get from the Play store or third party app stores. It has hundreds of outlets to lets you watch serveral generas of news. Fast Reboot used together with Dock4Droid is awesome. You can add the Fast Reboot shortcut to Dock4Droid and do a fast reboot from anywhere. 8Ball Pool, cause its like turning your TV into a pool table, and its a great game. Must use a mouse or touchpad to play though. FBD2 gives you a desktop version of Facebook without having to use a browser. I don't use Facebook a lot but when I do I use FBD2. MirrorOP Recever does the same as miracast, but its a backup for people that cannot mirror their device to the Fire TV. Just install MirrorOP Sender on the device you wanna mirror.

All links are correct. You eiither need a free account or login with Facebook, Twitter etc. If you are downloading them on Android, click the link then click download, but sometime it will take you to a different page for some reason, so hit back once and click download again, then pick free download and then either login to your free account or login through Facebook, Twitter etc.

All links I posted are working. Google drive may be better for you, but I use 4shared. I do not use anything just because someone else thinks its better. If you wanna downloaad the files either create a free account or just use you Facebook, Twitter etc to login to 4shared. I refuse to upoad my files to anoter site just because someeone is too lazy to create an account or connect through their Facebook etc.
Not trying to be rude at all, but I refuse to do anything for someeone who just wants me to make it easier for them to do something. It takes 20 seconds to create a 4shared account and 1 second to connect to 4shared with Facebook or Twitter. I have provided the files so if you want them you will have to download them from 4shared.
That's why I hate 4shared,they force you to (risk privacy) make an account.
It has NOTHING to do with laziness, more about privacy, they even bait you into thinking you could download files without needing an account, only to prompt so.
They used to be GOOD where you didn't have to do stupid stuff just to download a file.
It's like Dropbox pushing you twice to make an account when downloading a file, and it puts the "no thanks" link too far on the screen (Opera for Android via FireTV) where you have to first manipulate it with doubleclick zoom before bringing up the prompt, but at least you don't HAVE to create an account.
In some cases,a 4shared download can be directly accessible without making an account, but I can't remember how the link text looked.
In the near future,I reccommend 2shared,as I always have a great experience with that site.

Actually 4shared added the account login feature to make their site more secure. Also its just an ad that pops up and 99.9% of sites do similar stuff, cause its how they make money from advertisers. They also added the social network connection feature cause it is way more convenient to most people, and they added it because people asked them to add the feature so that they could connect through Facebook etc. There is very few sites or games that do not have the same exact feature that 4shared has, they are even a lot of sites, apps and games that require you to connect using GMail, Facebook or twitter. You would be hardpressed to find a website, app or game that does not require you to either give your email, Facebook, Twitter etc. Also, there is not one major file sharing site that does not either have a popup or a redirect page. The difference is that most of them have a popup which does not get in the way, while 4shared has a redirect instead of the popup. The popup and redirect do the same exact thing, it shows an ad to usually download something, which is not a big deal at all, cause all you have to do is go back one page and continue downloading what you were there to download before the redirect ad popped up. I get redirect ads all the time even on this very site. If popup and redirect ads kept people from using sites then people would basically have to stop using almost every website on the internet. If giving your email or connecting through Facebook is bad then why use XDA, cause they require you to give an email address or connect through Facebook, Twitter etc.

4shared is not just a file sharing site. Its also a place to store media or whatever else you want to store. 4shared does not require any information that any other site doesn't ask for, So I am not sure how you can say they invade your privacy. Every site you use will require you to login to use the functions of that site. 4shared is also used on devices of all kinds, not just android. There is a 4shared app for several different OS platforms. 4shared is a legit site and is not sketchy like most other file storage sites that are basicaly just a place to downlad free movies. 4shared is not rapidshare or one of the other shady sites, and thats why they require you to login. If you notice all the highly illegal sites do not require you to login to upload or download, but 4shared does, cause they are not like those sites. 4shared is more geared towards storage than sharing.
4shared 4shared Just pointing that out... XD
I was just saying it is not a forum,so it shouldn't make an extra 100,000+ people become members just because they needed to download something from it.
Of course you should have to be logged in to upload files, but not for simply downloading them.
Sure, they can make a feature to require one to be logged in to download certain files the uploader marks for requiring it though.

The thing you are not realizing is that 4shared does not force anyone to do anything, cause the internet does not revolve around 4shared. There are hundreds of other ways to get the same files that are on 4shared. You do not have to use 4shared. Every single file that I have linked to 4shared is widely availale in thousands of other places. A search engine is a beautiful thing and if you do not wanna downlad files from 4shared just use google, bing, yahoo or the search provider of you choice to find it elsewhere. Also comparing a forum and a file storage site is apples to oranges. There are also a lot of people that use storage sites a lot more than they use forum sites. You are making a big deal out of nothing. Every legit site makes you login to use their services.
That escalated quickly...
Download from 4shared or find your own files. Pretty simple and straightforward. Don't think we need ten posts about what one likes over another.
With 5 out now we should be able to install the Android TV Launcher, and with it, the Android TV Play store. I tried to sideload the APK from GAPPS but it failed. Perhaps it has other dependencies. Anyone have any suggestions?

I refuse to upoad my files to anoter site just because someeone is too lazy to create an account or connect through their Facebook etc.
Not trying to be rude at all, but I refuse to do anything for someeone who just wants me to make it easier for them to do something. It takes 20 seconds to create a 4shared account and 1 second to connect to 4shared with Facebook or Twitter. I have provided the files so if you want them you will have to download them from 4shared.

well said OP!
some folks are never grateful for what help we can get on here,
and I for one am very chuffed to have found your posting as I own an unrooted (now unrootable) Fire TV
I'm just now downloading both your rar's and look forward to far better times on my box.
My Galaxy S8+ is giving my spammy pop up / redirect ads in Chrome. The kinds of ads that look like the site I went to is infected with some kind of virus, but it happens for a lot of different sites so I'm thinking it's my phone. It doesn't happen every time. I've attached a screenshot of one.
I don't install apps from third party sites aside from Amazon. Most of my apps are productivity type apps from pretty reputable vendors. I have a few games (not a big gamer) but they all have good reviews on Google play. I've run the built in Verizon security app with no results and I downloaded and ran AVG which found nothing either.
How do I diagnose this?
