When I get to my daily visit to the XDA forum, to leech and see what the latest developments are, I always click the "FORUMS" menu item. This gives me a list with all the available forums, complete with an image of the phones associated with them. Or it gives me a list with phone images and the forums associated with them.. who cares
What I do is, scroll down as fast as I can and try to spot the phone that I'm really interested in, the Desire Z. The only problem is, what my eyes are looking (scanning) for is a phone with a keyboard. And here's the thing, the image used for the Desire Z forum... doesn't show the keyboard!!! Which to me is kinda silly, since the main thing for the phone is the keyboard. And I believe most other phones that have a keyboard, show the keyboard in the image. So I feel left out.
So my kind request to you moderator types is: "Could we, Desire Z users (or maybe it's just me), get an image that shows the keyboard for the forum?"
I mean, the fact that most of us find out that we don't use the keyboard as much as we had expected, doesn't mean it's not there! Keyboards have rights too you know!
Anyway, thanks.
Hi i am keen on desire z. How is the hw keyboard? My fingers tend to be too thick for small km.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
I'm really happy with it actually. The keyboard is nice, they left enough room between the keys even for larger fingers. But if you have thumbs the size of sausages it's going to be tough on any hw keyboard I guess. My thumbs aren't that big and I was used to using the Xperia X1 keyboard, so this is a great improvement
The only problem I have is the fact that I don't use it as often as I thought I would. The onscreen keyboard is great, so I find myself using that a lot more for quick messages than the hw keyboard.
I guess for smartphones the hw keyboard really is dying.... It's sad... Even Blackberry has a touch-screen/keyboard combo device nowadays
Or... at the top right, just type "Z" in "find your device", and pick it there?
If thats the particular forum you jump to first of all then why not set some kind of bookmark/quicklink in your browser......
And as Pulser said, top right corner.... find any device in seconds.
I cant remember the last time I had to scroll through that list.

THis is exactly what I do, I have three links on my book marks bar on Chrome, one to take me straight to desire z forum, one to the general android section and another to the front page.

I know, you are all right. And I do have a bookmark and I do know how to use the search or the CTRL+F keys. Still, isn't it a little strange that every picture in the list has the keyboard out when it has one, except for the Desire Z.
You do know I'm being a little sarcastic in my first post right?

Hi just a little thought, every year HTC bring out numerous devices, and also XDA's index gets a whole lot bigger, and models harder to find like the old way of just scrolling to the model.
Could xda not split the models?
eg. models pre xda diamond into a subforum like classic.xda-developers.com
as my fingers starting to hurt scrolling with the mouse, and its conflicting pain upon a human being
thanks
why not just use the search feature
yes i know theres a search feature, but im trying to make things easier, all i want is to scroll to latest models (which happen to be at end of the list) i'm not gonna use search feature just to type in touch hd2 and a whole lotta topics/posts come up, i'd use that if i wanted to find something specific.
this is how it should be: click xda dev, scroll to phone, enter subforums. easy.
now its: click xda dev, scroll scroll scroll scroll scroll look scroll look scroll look scroll, find, enter subforums.
Yep, there is a newly created search box on top right to go straight to the forums you wish.
Perhaps a 'favourites' would be a good idea though, so you only see the sections you've selected.
i just would like to also say, the new search thing is ugly at top, looks like its been thrown together quite quickly. maybe like sh500 says favourites or even a couple of drop downs instead of teh new search.
drop down1:
Win mobile - activates [1]
Android - activates [2]
drop down 2:
[1]win mobile models
[2]android models
or even better, be able to hide any forums, and it will remember your hidden/shown settings through username.

The first bit is what they already have? When you over your mouse of the 'Devices by OS or manufacturer'.
It's really not that much of an issue when you use plugins to make your surfing easier...

16 x 2 i have and everything is well easy to access
Why dont you create a new xda-forum for Pre-Windows Mobile deivces?
So creata a domain of: prewm.xda-developers.com
'jump to device' search box is working perfect, i dont feel need for any "improvements" , separating models to different pages/domains will make things worse and harder to navigate. maybe it is possible to make per user option in control panel to hide unwanted subforums from index page, but i am not sure how would it affect site server load.
can't it just be changed so it goes new phones to old phones at the bottom instead of vice versa?
The XDA forum redesign is launching soon. We'll have several ways to make it much more easy to navigate the forum index. This was a core focus of the redesign

Jump to device search on top is OK for PC, but it's not that easy at phone, especially if you have no-js opera mini.
And browsing xda with phone is nigthmare because index page is loading for ages.

*puts on flame suit*
Can someone elaborate on this? Do we already have this feature? I noticed the droid multitouch keyboard ported and when I installed it, didn't notice much of a difference
-mobile superinformation highway surfing 8)
Yeah its on the evo.. go to a webpage.. put two fingers together and touch screen.. open your fingers. Zooms in on web page..
sent from my Evo
Are you talking about the keyboard? If so, then yes the stock keyboard is multitouch on 2.2 and so is the Droid X. How you can test it is press one letter then press another while holding the first an it will still register which allows you to type faster.
welll... what had caught my attention was when this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753156 popped up in my news feeder
and i saw some folks saying they used it on the evo.... so i thought it was something new
then i used it and was like whas so special? i thought we been could do this pinch and zoom and multitouch...lol
i guess its just the sounds and the color huh?
thanks for all the replies all
Hi everybody!
Is there an application that lets you use lg optimus dual's gestures? I refer to the possiblity to move the cursor, when you are writing, left or right simply by hitting your device on the left or the right side.
Thank you in advance and sorry my english

Bump!
This sounds pretty interesting...
Yes this is possible, actually with a little bit of porting you could use the same app. The only real problem is that the hardware (accelerometer) is different. But it shouldn't be to big of a problem. How usefull this app would be is a second issue. You are aware that it is merely a gimmick and not even very functional on the optimus right?
Hope this informed you enough. If you want someone to develop it for you, just send out a request and donate kindly
Thank you for the explanation, my real problem is how to move between text easily, i red about this possibility but it's not an useful solution... Thank you tho for helping
Btw do you know how to move practically between text?

No problem, Could you elaborate on that? I don't understand what you mean exactly. You press where you want to have the cursor on text? On website its a longpress and then you can drag (and copy search etc) Is this what you mean?
I have some problems while typing a text message, for example, my finger isn't too much precise to choose the right place;
another important problem that i have is when i'm searching on Google: if what i'm searching is longer than the bar, and I'd like to edit the last word, i can't move the cursor too right beside i should tap the "x", that deletes all...
Sorry my English i tried to explain as best as i can, i hope that it's understandable...

Actually I know what you mean, google thing you can solve by making a text selection and draging it to the beginning. For the text problem there isnt really a solution. I got used to it pretty fast and im accurate now. Also the gingerbread keyboard is a bit better when it comes to text selection, if your not using it yet it might be worth giving a try
you can find a flashable package of the keyboard here.
Hope this will help you!
Edit: Text selection in google mobile is indeed not possible. A solution for this could be to use classic google which has a larger text box. (I am using this since the beginning, its actually faster and less buggy, downside is that you have to zoom in and out a bit more)
I already have a gingerbread keyboard, thank you...

Ok good, best keyboard imo. OT: you still want the dual gestures? Could ask some dev's to take a look at it
no i don't think i will, it's not so important, i don't want to bother a dev for so little...
Hahaha, lonely in this thread. We could have almost handled it with pm's
I've using my NG for a week now and still trying to figure out how to copy/paste.
I see the check mark come up when I highlight text but I can't figure out how to get the text to copy. I tap the check mark but doesn't seem to do anything.
Any good YouTube videos or anything that show how to do this?
It's not the check mark you want, next to the words "select all" you'll see an icon that looks like two pages, clicking that will show a dialogue at the bottom of your screen saying, "text copied to clipboard". Pressing and holding again will give you the option to paste.
Thank you , feel pretty dumb now.
Or just simply tap highlighted text again ....

Don't be. I had the same problem myself. It's a crappy system. Moreover good questions like this create a good reference for new users moving forward.
There are no such things a stupid questions or feeling dumb, just learn from your mistake or the hole in your knowledge and try to pass on what you know the next time someone else needs help.
I had exactly the same issue finally figured it out after my third attempt at copying from a browser window!
I wish there was an easier way to scroll the cursor around tho, i miss the trackball on my N1. They really should add a popup onscreen wheel onto the keyboard.
Off topic sorta, but I was just reading an article where one of the Cons of Android vs iOS is that Android doesn't have system wide Copy/Paste.
I lol'd
i'm not able to cut and paste from within tweet deck like I could on my Gingerbread. Quite frustrating
Theres a manual that covers all such essentials.
Get it by googling "samsung galaxy nexus" to go to googles official site for the phone, click register, bung in your email and they will send you a link to the manual.
The manual that should have come in the box IMHO!!
Ok so it appears that ALOT of people came from the OG Droid to the GNex.
Just wanted to see if there was any more interest out there for the softkeys to be the same as first used on the OG Droid.
I know there are other Devs working on this, PaulB....etc..
I rarely used the Search on my Droid (actually cant remember ever using it, but anyway.) But I used Back Arrow all the time. Like it on the far LEFT. Then Menu, and then Home. Multi Task can be removed as well.
If anyone else feels this way, feel free to reply.
Oh and if Im posting in the wrong , place, please move. Thanks.
dude.. we just get this development forum opened and THIS is the first thread created? c'mon this has nothing to do with development. If you're looking to judge people's interest in something consider starting in the general or q and a section if you're going to start a thread or better yet, posting in the relevant thread, which you referenced would be a good idea.
Nice request but you willget much better results posting in the right sectiom
My bad for posting in the wrong place. CDMA Development specific forum looked like the right place. Besides like you said, nothing else was posted. I now know that you were just starting up the new area.
Thanks for moving to the right place.
Now with that out of the way,
What is everyones thoughts?
This would be AMAZING!
So hang on a second, you want to remove a major feature of Android 4.0, the multi-tasking menu and replace it with a search button that can also be accessed from the top of the screen AND that you said your self you have NEVER used.... excuse me but your logic does not seem sane... Why would you not just leave the multi-tasking button and just put it in the place of the search button...
No. I think you misread my post.
I like the button arrangement on the Droid. I don't like how the menu/settings button or dots now are never in the same place on 4.0. It depends on the app as to its placement . Pretty silly in my opinion. I like the soft key idea ALOT, just not the new arrangement.
And I said you could take the SEARCH key off as I never use it. Menu/settings key is the one I would like to see on the bottom always. Heck exchanging the multi task key for menu/settings would be cool as well.
I could probably get used to the multi task once I use it some. Still trying to break old habits of pushing home or back.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium
I hink its a great idea. Id suggest that you allow the search button to still be available with side dots but the back, menu, home and recents apps with OGD buttons icons would be awaeome. I hope i get to flash this in the very near future
I like the idea. What would be even better is if we were able to just change the icons and what they do. A lot like you would do with a app launcher.
