Been running CM7 since nightly 8 and I keep running into issues. Not huge stuff, just problems here and there. I noticed Matted Blues supports SalvageMod, can anyone clue me into the key differences between the two? I don't care about stuff like DSP manager, phone goggles, and various things that CM7 does. I do like the customization that it allows, but I'm growing weary of the tricky issues that I have to iron out. Basically, wondering what I'll be missing out on in Salvage.
Flashing a rom is growing time consuming for me and I've had mad issues when doing nandroids or basically anything other than a FULL wipe of the phone and starting from scratch with CM7, hence my reluctance to do a quick flash of Salvage and see what's up... I JUST did a full wipe and a CM7 final flash.
Thank you in advance for taking a little time out of your day to save me a few hours, always appreciated
CM has theme engine, savage doesn't (yet). SZ has signal strength like sense, on off switch for SBC and built in HAVs adjustment.
CM has a few more tweaks that SZ doesn't but SZ is just getting started. CM also uses ADW and SZ uses the stock GB launcher.
Edit: try miui, I flashed it today and im in love with it. No working 4G yet though.

You caught it before I did.
But basically, Salvage: bare rom, no added goodies, just bare bones, no power widgets, ect. CM7: all the goodies we know and love.

Not sure if you're thinking of Evervolv, because that one is completely bare bones basically. I'm currently on salvage mod 1.2.1, and it does have a lot of the extra goodies, like CM does. It has salvage mod settings built in, where you can adjust cpu governor, clock speed, etc. It also has notification toggle widgets, which are easily changeable, like CM also. Salvage is a great ROM, and i can't decide between that and CM7. I keep nandroiding back and forth, haha. They are both exceptional roms, but Salvage seems to be a bit smoother on my device for some reason. To the OP, I suggest trying every rom available. There a quite a few to try and test out, and see which performs best on your phone, and which you like best.

Hmm well must have changed since I last ran it, back in the day...lol. CM7 runs smooth on my phone so I'm happy with it. And Evervolv gave me fcs like no tomorrow as well. But sure its been fixed.
Haha yeah, I'm speaking of Salvage and not Savaged. I know Savaged and Everlov have basically nothing added and are pure speed roms, but I like a few fun things to play with. I don't think I use enough of the CM7 things that people seem to care about (browser? phone goggles?). Either I don't know what they do or I can't tell ANY difference between them. Pretty much all I want from the rom is the CPU governor settings and the notification toggle widgets. And Matted Blues. I think I'm going to give SalvageMod a try, thank you guys! Much appreciated.

feel gives the best performance and best battery life? There are so many to choose from and I hate flashing one, setting all my crap back up and flashing another. I am on Baked Snacks 1.7 now, as of 11pm lastnight. So far it's nice. Not much diff from 1.5 I was on. I like SenseUI, so I want roms with it.
I hear good things about CM6, but it sounds complicated to install.
I'm running Stock De-odexed right now but I working on my own based off the new OTA. For me, CM6 wasn't hard to install - all I had to do was flash it with ClockworkMod and it worked OotB.
Well, if you want SenseUI, I wouldn't go with CM6 since it's more of an AOSP rom. Check out Fresh 3.2, that's as Sense as it can get with really great battery life (IMHO), on a stock "unreleased" kernel. I've been running Fresh roms since the beginning and still loving it.

CM6 is probably the fastest, not sure about battery life. CM6 is not sense and its also not complicated to install. You just need to flash the google apps as well as the CM6 rom. You can do them both at the same time then reboot. No big deal. However CM6 has no sense and thus can be pretty diffrent and raw feeling at first. If you like sense and you want to try CM6 try out launcher pro with CM6 I hear they got some great sense like widgets, plus you can get some sense like widgets on the market. Other good options are Damage Control and Fresh both are great roms with plenty of options. Baked snacks is good though too so really its hard to say whats the best. It really does come down to prefrence.
Personaly I run CM6 and I use ADW launcher. Its fast, and battery life is great. The options in CM6 are awesome and the options with ADW launcher are awesome as well. However if you go with CM6 you are going to want to play with the settings, it will help you get to know the rom and setting it up will really allow you to apricaite it.
Also I dont use a task kill and I dont recomened using one. However, I have heard good things about juice defender and people are starting to swear by it for battery life. Personaly I get a full day plus depending on usage, so I dont use it. I just make sure to charge my phone before I wake up.
CM6 + Juice Defender + Ultimate Juice is where I keep landing. I've tried several roms, but that combo works best for me. Fast, stable, and I get 22 - 30 hours out of my battery depending on usage.
Yes, CM is lacking 4g and HDMI out, not a big deal for me. The benefits FAAAAAARRRRR outweigh those two things.
Fresh 3.2, everything works
Good info, guys. I have been considering Fresh 3.2...I have been reading that thread quite a bit.
Do you have to flash the kernel separately from the rom on 3.2??

Every rom haas it's own kernel, some come with modded custom kernels, others are just stock. As long as you make sure it's compatible with the rom you are using you can always flash a custom kernel later.
Some guy told me earlier that the first 10% of the EVO battery drains away quick, which mine does. You don't start juding battery like until 90%. Anyone else heard this?
I have tried several roms. cm6 is nice but too many issues right now ie 4g, hdmi, mms broken.
I finally found a good rom; check it out.
[ROM] VaelPak v2.0 (9/6/10) -NonSense -[HTC#7][BFS][OC][UV][FPSU] -3.28.651.1 OTA
This rom you can choose sense or aosp apps and 3 launchers which awd launcher is the only real choice. If you choose awd you might want to change the settings to scroll the apps vertical. And of course this being a htc rom it has the stock bluetooth stack.

Seems like a very nice and smooth rom. Launcher pro is supper smooth with the rom. Going to try kings aosp kernel. Stock kernel only allows over clock to 1.15, no 1.13 option, which is not stable for me.

It's apparently based off of CM6's source, then tweaked. I was going to post on here about it earlier today, but didn't have time.
I'm wondering if anyone can drop a compare/contrast of the different AOSP builds available for the DInc now.
I'm guessing here, but Ruby is as stock as you can get (until they change that), CM6 has some tweaks, UD has more tweaks and is built off CM6, and ShadowROM is built off CM6 and has tweaks.
Almost makes me wonder if someone should come along and pull them *all* together into some massive super-AOSP ROM... which from what ShadowROM's description reads, that's what they're trying to do.
I am trying this one right now...and looking that it has koush kernel, I suspect it also has the reboot/shut down issue... I really hope not. Personally, I don't care if they all pull together, or individually...but the reboot/shut down issue has been my biggest culprit on CM...and I depend on my phone. Ruby has been awesome...so if this one doesn't work out, I have something to fall back to.

Same here. I have to give up on AOSP roms for a while if I don't want to miss any calls while the phone reboots itself or goes into la la land. At least Redemption is very stable for me and good on the battery.

TY Grikshanks for saving me on that one. AOSP vs. Sense-based ROMs and related discussion are starting to bug me. Especially when talking about AOSP kernels vs. Sense...
However, now that it's been mentioned, I did forget about IncredibleDoes' AOSP based ROMs. So thus far AOSP ROMs for the DInc are: ID's, CM's, UD/BD's, Ruby, and ShadowROM. I hope I'm not missing anything else... and UD/BD, CM, and Shadow are all based off each other. Ruby and ID are unique. Though I know all the devs talk to each other, I don't know the details on what is mutual or exclusive between them (ie if kernels are interchangeable).

Weird, I've been on 6.0.2, stock kernel with SetCPU settings as:
Screen off = 384/245 interactive priority 90
Temp > 40C = 768/128 conservative priority 85
Charging/full = 998/128 interactive priority 80
Batt < 25% = 691/128 conservative priority 50
And been doing fine throughout the day. No reboots on calls... only thing is that playing Parallel Kingdom sucks battery down pretty fast. Also makes the phone rather warm. But I've been on CM6 pretty much since it came out stable, skipped .01 and went straight to .02. Haven't tried Adrynalyne or KK's kernels yet.

From what I can tell looking at source code, it doesn't seem to be forked from anything. I'm guessing they pulled Launcher2 and modified the source as they see fit, so it's roughly based off stock froyo launcher. But I'm still learning how to play with source/github/etc.
I don't *think* any ROMs modify the radio. Are you asking what radio is required to use it? Personally I just use the newest leaked one, haven't had problems yet. And mflops should be similar to CM6's, as they share the stock kernel (and codebase).
Don't really know why people are so obsessive about benchmarks. Give it a try, if you don't like it because it's laggy or whatever, nandroid back. *shrug*

UD/CM/Shadowrom arent just "based off each other". Looking outside the scope of the incredible, Cyanogenmod is king of AOSP considering its support of multiple devices. Crystal Clear is starting to make its way out being that the incredible is their second device. most everyone knows the deal with UD, but i dont know a thing about shadowrom. in that respect, pretty much all of these roms are based off of CM, because all of these devs, including BlackDroid, consult with the CM team to create their roms, and some use parts of it. With that in mind, youll see that just about all of these roms use Koush's kernles from CM. Most AOSP built roms for a single device can swap kernels for the most part, since most of them dont really differentiate much in the OS anyways. The only real differences between these roms is mostly the optional built-in customizations they add in settings and the launchers they use out of the box, as well as whatever theme they add in sometimes if any. CM sets a good bar with full status/notification customizing from the settings menu, along with the performance, input, sound, display settings etc. Ruby sort of followed suit but swapped status bar customizing for other miscellaneous tweaks. BD just compiled a crap load of tweaks made by other people and combined them into his rom, yet it still lacks the status bar tweaking. Shadowrom seems to have fully incorporated it along with some of his own additions, but those didnt seem to work on my phone when trying them out. couldnt even see what was in the Misc. settings cus it FC'ed on me.
for the launcher used in shadowrom, yes it is the launcher from the Nexus. it looks like he smoothed it out quite a bit though.
the only roms that will upgrade your radio are those that come leaked from HTC themselves. No rom should "modify" your radio. if anyone has tried so and youre thinking about flashing it, dont.
FYI:

UD: Yes
Shadowrom: Yes
Ruby: No
Cm6 has some stuff in it forked from Ruby. I wouldn't say Cm6 is based off of Ruby because of that. Would you?
Ruby is its own project.
cm did not invent aosp, and have their own source tree.
Ruby does not use that tree.
1st big issue I see - it doesn't scan the built in memory for images or music. Not sure how the "three testers" they were using missed this one.
Been running this for 2 days now. I flashed Kings AOSP kernal over the one that came with this rom. Runs very smooth and stable. Only one small issues... couldnt update to newest version of google street view (newest version of google maps comes installed with this rom), and camcorder does not do 720p. Camera is 8mp though. Great stable rom. Quadrant scored in the 1400 range with no overclocking on king kernal. High 1500 range @ 1.15 ghz.

For those people having trouble with their 8gb internal memory being recognized, a great music player that someone else on this forum recommended called mortplayer recognizes all of my media that is on my internal memory and plays all my music without a flaw. Mortplayer is works great on ruby, CM6, and shadowrom, those being the only AOSP roms that I've tried so far! Just throwing it out there for anyone with media on the internal memory
hey guys i finally got my gf's gingerbread evo rooted, and i want to put the latest synergy rom on it, since i love it on my thunderbolt. im just running nightlies on mine, but i dont want to really update hers all the time. which one is the best? are the nightlies as stable on the evo as the thunderbolt or should i go with the rls 1? i want good battery life, the 3d rosie screen transitions, sense 3.0, and preferably 4g. it looks like rls 1 doesnt have 3d, do the nightlies? also any recommendations for roms you guys like are appreciated i know its better to just play around till you find one you like but i dont want to keep flashing her phone lol. anyway thanks in advance!
edit: by nightlies i mean the kingdom port nightlies, and rls1 is the one that has the godmode option, just to clear that up lol. im not missing any am i?
RLS1 is best for themes, mods, and stability. It's also device-optimized (at least in the EVO's case) so there's more room in /data (source). Try godmode or non-GM as you wish - her phone may respond well or poorly to it, or anywhere in between.
For good battery life, look into a combination of the Freedom kernel (More Freedom 0.8 is what I'm running, and it's great) and No Frills CPU Control (or other CPU control app of your choice). There are many carousel mods for Synergy; show her the thread and let her pick whichever one she likes best.
Synergy is a Sense 2.1+3.0 ROM, unlike a few other non-mainline Synergy branches, so she won't have the full Sense 3.0 experience. If you want that for sure, look at the Kingdom port - I hear many good things about it.
And remember, be safe, use a nandroid.
Great write-up, Aeltar... ... As for 'my opinion' of "which Synergy rom", I prefer Synergy RLS-1 non G-mode.

What exactly does Freedom do to achieve better battery? Undervolt when not in heavy use? What methods/tweak specifically? The first post in the main thread ddint say much. I don't want something that reduces my synch/update frequencies without my control.
Freedom undervolts by a static value of either 0, 50, 100, or 150 mV, corresponding to Stock, Less, More, and Aggressive. It also has several governers that lock the clock low when not in use (Smartass, InteractiveX, powersave, perhaps more of them do so). It won't alter your sync frequency - I don't believe any kernel can do so.
Synergy RLS1 without Godmode is the best one I have tested. Most things work. I can't really say anything about the nightlies, I'm afraid to put anything less than a release candidate on my phone, lol. Godmode, I have found, performs just as well as no godmode, but HTC Hub is all messed up and force closes on godmode. Also with nongodmode, you can update your PRL and profile as normal. The 3D carousel isn't there because it has the landscape option for the home screen. This is where Sense 2.1 kicks in (from Evo Shift). I beleive the camera is also sense 2.1. Also, 75 of the effects on the camera don't work on either synergy release for me, and HDR doesn't really make a noticeable difference. The panorama feature works though, and is pretty cool. Just flash em and see what you think.
awsome guys thanks a lot! ive got the rls1 running on it now, where can i find the 3d carousel mods at? also does ziggy make an evo kernel? ive been running his since i got my thunderbolt and its the best battery life/performance mix ive found
oh and synergy doesnt have working 4g does it? ive only seen one rom that claimed it did i dont remember which one
All Synergy mods are in Post #2 of the main thread.
The only Sense GB kernels right now are Freedom (by lithidcm) and Golden Monkey (by netarchy). Freedom is more developed, but I'm sure Netarchy's next release (1.2 probably) will be a major showing. I recommend More Freedom, but make sure to use Synergy-GM kernel for GM and Universal for non-GM.
Synergy has fully working 4G, and gives me much better reception than any AOSP ROM I've tried (only Deck and CM7, admittedly).
Anyone know why with any Synergy rom I flash (specifically NIghtly) my phone is running very slow and lags. I'm noob but I'm was under the idea that ROMs are supposed to speed up your phone, not slow them down. Any ideas?
Make sure you're wiping cache and dalvik cache, and try flashing both GM and non-GM versions to make sure that isn't causing an issue with your phone. A complete wipe (everything but the SD card; VR Superwipe is a good idea simply for efficiency of clicks) is strongly recommended - remember, you can simply nand data and sd-ext and restore those to get your environment back from Sense to Sense or AOSP to AOSP ROMs.
I have been using Cyanogen since CM6 and I have gotten to a point where I absolutely hate it. My GPS is hit or miss (usually miss), and 90% of the time I get a call I end up missing it due to my screen not waking up. I wont even get started on the FC's
So I am on the hunt for another good rom, there is only a few things I'm looking for in a rom other than what stated above to be working. GB of course, not a fan of sense roms, and it has to look clean. I am admittedly very picky about how my ui looks, currently I am using the Matted blues theme, with ADW EX and I exclusively use the hidden panel with a wood dock look to it, and I use the Faenza icon theme.
Im open to any and all suggestions, even if it is a sense rom, just help with a link to a SBC kernel along with it, because I know nothing of sense kernels. And I'm even open to MIUI if its finally stable.
If you wana stay on AOSP, you could try decks rom [a cleaned up version of CM7], salvage mod [bare bone AOSP], or MIUI...AOSP with a twist. If you want a sense rom, I'd go with the synergy-kingdom sense 3.0 rom.
As for kernels, for AOSP, I strongly recommend the Tiamat kernel, along with the vipermod. PM if you need anything else.

True that, and if you did decide to try snygery rls1 WITH god mode, it has to be flashed with amon_ra recovery.

I have given serious consideration to decks rom, but is it a steady rom or is it just a fly by night build?
I tried synergy kingdom, I was fairly impressed once I installed ADW. Sense 3.0 for me was like playing a PSX game, everytime I turned a corner there was a loading screen, lol. But I was unable to get it to look the way I like, I want as little white on the screen as possible, aside from text.
SavagedZen Mod was horrible for me, and It hasn't been updated from RC4 in months.
As far a MIUI goes I'm trying it again, even though on the front page of the site there is yet another thing broken with it.
I have also tried Vealpak's new AOSP GB ROM, it was ok. anybody have any experience themeing it?
EDIT:
As I type im doing a nandroid in RA about to mess with MIUI for a little bit, and then Im going to flash decks rom. I found the main forum for it, and your right allot of people seem to be going ape **** for it.

Deck's is fairly stab;e, so you shouldn't have any problems out of it. And well the sense 3.0 roms are monster, so it can 'sorta' be expected. if you wanted to try that, you could try the supercharger script to free up some memory. I stopped using savagedzen kernels months ago once they only went to sbc, went to Tiamat...never looking back. As for MIUI > http://romsmaster.miui.us/ Just scroll down to the evo, and you can get the latest rom. I haven'y used it, though to theme is fairly basic: you can download a theme, and flash it via theme manager, or flash it old school in recovery. You can download icon packs as well if you wanted to use them.

This.
I just went from CM over to MIUI. I love the UI, and battery life seems to be really good.
No 4G though, but I never use it, so meh.
+1 for deck. I'm on latest build but would recommend going with 1.21 build, tiamat 4.06+SBC, and vipermod. I get some wake locks with 1.3d n would back 2 1.21 but don't feel like reloading everything.

LOL @ people recommending Deck's after the OP says that he hates CM7. C'mon guys, I like Deck's too but it's almost completely CM7 based. Give SalvageMod a shot.
Ive been trying this rom for a good while now. its a combination of aosp rom and htc sense. the rom is clean and quick. I recommend it!!

Never said they hated deck's , just that CM7 had been giving them issues.

go slap launcher 2 on it
He also mentioned trying to escape CM6, not CM7 so his problems may be solved already.
Get bootloader and try every ROM listed so far in this thread is my advice. I just added Decks 1.3d to slot 4 out of respect for the above Italian.

Lawlz, I personally like launcher pro, epicness enough for moi
And how is the boot manager app? I hear a lot of people half problems, but just as many say its workign well...about 50/50 and you didn't have to load up deck's rom on my behalf. .
Best app ever. Worth a shot.
Decks is nice except for the random market fc's I just started to get. Still not as good as salvagemod.

I am SO glad you posted this thread (so - thanks).
I, too, and looking to get away from CM as I have used it for a very long time and, identically to you I am having serious issues with the GPS and the screen not waking up.
I'm gonna try both Decks & MUIU tonight and see which I like best. My friend at work as MUIU and the only complaint I've had with it is the way it mimics iOS. I hate apple and don't know if that'll be a deal-breaker for me, but here we go!
I suppose I could have just 'thanked' your post since I didn't have any valuable info, just wanted to let you know you aren't the only one experiencing those EXACT issues w/ CM.

once you get into the settings and launcher options of MIUI, you will quickly realize it is NOT ios4. just download and change the theme, load a different launcher, and you will be very happy minus 4G.
Miui

I was just wondering what are the lightest (as in space), smoothest yet good looking roms out there.
Personally, can't go wrong with CM7. Xplod by Team Nocturnal, also AOSP, is a great rom. If you want small [as in space] then you will want AOSP, as sense roms are always bigger.
Yeah aosp for sure, salvagemod,cm like Roxx said etc. These are all pretty light rom's.

I personally love aosp aswell but everytime i flash one, my wimax doesnt go as fast as with sense roms... If it wasnt for that, id most def. Be on cm7
nExVsO
Try Deck and then flash the Savage Zen BFS HAVS kernel. The Rom is based on CM7 but with all the bling that CM ads removed. The savage zen kernel gave me disgustingly good battery life. The whole Rom as is, is under 80mb. Can't get much lighter than that. sz kernel should resolve your wimax speed issue too. I notice that 4G always seemed slower on CM's kernel (which is what most of the AOSP roms use, including Miui). SZ's kernel fixed a lot of little things like that.
O cool thnx man, does sz kernel support hdmi also?
You've got great information above. AOSP is always smaller, lighter. I'm using kushdeck's gingerbread-evo-deck 1.3d (GB v2.3.5), which is built on a solid Cyanogenmod base. It's technically still a beta of GB v2.3.5, but I have as yet to have any issue with it. Plus, if like me you like the stock Vicual Voice Mail, use the ed-gapps with vm. Note that CM did this first and has this available also.
Both the SZ and Tiamat kernels support HDMwIn, have sbc versions available, etc. I find that the latest Tiamat 4.0.8 kernel works the best for me overall but of course your phone may feel otherwise.
Oh, a nice trick if you have issues with Wifi, Wimax or GPS after flashing an AOSP ROM. Once your ROM is built, make a nand backup of it. Now, flash one of the rooted stock ROMs (I use virus's 453.651.1). Once its flashed and you boot up, immediately reboot into recovery and restore your backup of your favorite AOSP ROM. This works because some drivers (like the GPS driver) are or can be changed/updated during a flash, but are not during a restore.
This has fixed non-functioning & poorly functioning GPS for many (including me), fixed wifi issues for some, and a few say that it improved their wimax speeds. If you're experiencing any of those issues, it only costs a few minutes of your time to find out, but of course that's your decision.
Anyway, I hope that the info is useful. Thank you for your time.
