[Q] How to move Epic to Virgin Mobile? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

[pointless boring intro, feel free to ignore]
Hello everyone, I have been following this site for a while, and I recently made an account so I could give feedback while I beta tested some ROMs. Well I can't post in the developer section yet so I thought I would ask a question or two.
[question]
So I searched the forums (I tried to be thorough but I am on the app so I may have missed the answer to this) and after being unable to find my answer I come to you community!
Does anyone know of a way to get a Samsung Epic 4G to work on Virgin Mobile? I saw some small discussions but nothing concrete.
I am curious because I have Sprint on my dad's plan (for I am but a poor college boy), and he sometimes forgets to pay the bill. I would like to get my own plan, but can't afford more than Virgin Mobile's $25 plan, but I love my Epic and VM is lacking the high end devices I crave.
So if anyone has any information on this, I would appreciate it. A tutorial would be nice, but I also want to learn, so even if a feasible means is not available, perhaps an explanation of why not is available. Also, if this is possible, what would I stand to lose if I did this?
Thank you for any future help.

I can't seem to find any info specifically on google or XDA towards this, so maybe Virgin Mobile isn't that popular to us high end phone techies?
Unfortunately I have no experience with this, but it has been done for the Boost network, so I suppose it could be possible. Check out this video on how to port it to Boost, maybe it can put you on the right track to getting on Virgin Mobile:
Switching to Boost
Again, no promises, but you wanted info.

Thank you. I believe I read somewhere that if you buy a Samsung Moment, and activate it on Virgin Mobile, then flash the Esn of that phone to the epic, it will work. I will check the video and see what I can come up with.

[Q] Evo 4g flashed to Metro Internet Help.

Alright, I tried looking up info on this for about 2 days. I seen the guide but I can't find a CDMA Workshop and I really don't want to pay $108 for the program when I'd only use it once. I'm just at a wall here.
Anyway, I have a EVO 4g running metrodroid, Calling and mms works fine and all that. Like I said I went to follow the guide to try and get the internet working but I can't find that program. My question is if there is another way that I didn't see or something of that sort. I'm sorry if I seem really noobish. I come and look at this site alll the time and it's been a big help for me in the past but I just don't know what to do.
I would post a link here but, I'd be violating the forum rules. What I can say is to look for cdma workshop in youtube they have videos and links in description. Hope that helps.

Do you mean your mobile network settings? If so I can answer your question, your sim card has those importen settings saved, so if you turn on your phone with the new rom everythink will work on its own
Yes but that's on a gsm phone, and my metro pcs wildfire is a cdma. And I read that the metro cdma loses mobiledata when rooted.
I'm running the same phone, rooted, with a stock+a2sd ROM. Mobile data works great.

i wish i could take a thanks away from you... losing faith in xda here, these loser noobs are answering questions for people and the guys that know are nowhere. i did in fact take your advice and flashed stock sense to my metro phone, now i have no mobile network access, it started as soon as i flashed the stock sense marvelc rom and even when i restore my backups and such i have no mobile network. i saw in a different post that someone is working on a fix for this problem, i hope so.
in short, bobdamnit you have been less than unhelpful and should keep out of things that are not addressed to you!
i only wanted an answer from a dev, or someone who has had this problem and fixed it.

Wow! I feel your pain, dude.
I, too, have witnessed garbage responses coming in from certain members of the community who (I'm sure, if asked) consider themselves to be the greatest thing to happen to the Internet since streaming porn.
Because of the useless replies coming in, I actually included a disclaimer in Post #1 of a question thread I started (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487627&page=5) and got so much grief because of it! In the end, I think you will see I was justified, though.
I asked that only those who actually know the answer, please respond. I also said to please not respond with a certain type of answer (because it misses the point). Sure enough, both my caveats were violated. And now, some elitist members are trying (emphasis on TRYING) to make me look bad, but failing miserably. The beauty of an email thread is that you can always scroll up and read what everyone wrote. The issue here is that some folks took HUGE offense when I told them their answers were off the mark (because they were!). There were a couple of folks with helpful insight - which I thanked, but those posts of mine were conveniently ignored.
I even had one developer proclaim that devs hated the android community, and yet I am the one being rude?! Simply stunning.
Kudos to you for sticking to your guns and I hope you eventually find the CORRECT resource (on this forum, would be nice) to help you through your WFS issue.
It is for those reasons that I am giving you your first Thanks!
Thanks for posting such a note. Hopefully others will open their eyes because of it.

Can someone tell what was the default setting on the Turn on SMS over IMS? Should that feature be on or off and what does it do in general thanks?
You don't have to start another thread just because your first one didn't get answered...

OP, it's a pain asking on message boards, people get all defensive when they don't know the answer!
The only semi-useful info I could find was at code.google.com - (I'm a new user, can't post URL's)

This whole site has a great deal of unhelpful, self righteous twats. Top it off with the stupid posting restrictions for new users and you have a pretty damn unfriendly place for noobs. I should have known from the snarky video I had to watch just to join that this was an exclusive Android guru only place. It sucks that people come here to chat and get help with issues and this is the kind of responses they get. Good job.

The default setting is off.
IMS = IP Multimedia Subsystem
IP = Internet Protocol
SIP = Session Initiation Protocol
With setting off, SMS is sent/received over 1x circuit switched connection
With setting on, SMS is supposedly sent/received over a SIP session over IP (e.g. LTE)
I'm not sure if one is better than the other or what advantages/disadvantages either would have.
Is IMS even functional? I know it will be for VoLTE, but what about now?

Look at this dudes signature, you can tell he's a corn ball.
Anyway, I was curious about this too because sms over ims is supposed to be available when volte launches, which hasn't yet (volte is voice and sms coming over LTE). Right now only data comes over LTE. Voice is still 1x with some other convoluted ehrpd stuff.
Anyhow, any luck with this? Did you give it a try? I imagine your data usage would go up since text would go against your data usage.

Finally, someone whom sees it how I do. It's sad to see that this still happens. Every since the BB days and mIRC chat all the way up until now it continues. Forums are meant to help the "Noob" or "Lam3r" if any of you are old enough to remember that term. If you want to help then great, but if not then I would love for these fat, anti-social dorks to do something other than harass and discourage the young ones (and the older) who wish to learn.
If everyone could follow that philosophy as a general rule. Kind of like Open Source software, it's done for a cause, something greater than one's self. If forum users (not naming any in particular) would open their minds and allow a bit of tolerance for the unknowing rather than providing links to this, this and this (which sometimes is the easiest way to resolve and issue or answer a question). But god forbid if someone doesn't use the search feature.
I understand that answering the same questions over and over again is annoying. But rather than push that person off with another link or trolling comment just think back to when you were that "Lam3r" or that "N00b" noone wanted to help back in the 90's and how frustrating it was.
None of us started out this life knowing anything about software development, computers and networking, telecommunications, etc. But when a forum is created, watch out....everyone is an expert and "you are an idiot" if you have a simple question to ask. N00b's, don't let these loser's discourage you. Keep looking for your answers on XDA and you will find someone willing to help. There are tons of super cool members here.
And again, I'm with you 100% Xfanatic....
Deuces.

I agree with you about agreeing with Xfanatic...and Lam3rs should not get discouraged because there really are good people out there!
On the topic - this reminds me of the setting in older phones (maybe began with the first few colour phones?) of using GPRS for SMS. Never really understood if it had any advantage/disadvantage and it was disabled by default. I didnt see any change in performance if it was on or off, and also couldn't see a notable change in data usage but it was harder to track back then...

Before phones were smart.
Haha! some like the P900 I still have a lot of respect for and it was probably as smart as todays phones with less gimmick
I was talking about phones from around 2002 or 2003...Nokia 7250i for example
This user's guide I found for the phone has the setting listed as one of the features - http://dl.owneriq.net/4/41149a6d-d289-4d77-b932-7006a2d469d8.pdf
IMS
wikipedia is your friend ref: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Multimedia_Subsystem .. option remains relevant for new phones ie Nexus 4 etc. Sometimes registration is required to enable.
Rob
T-mobile definitely utilizes LTE(SIP - see above for definition) for sending texts. Not sure about other carriers.
Edit: I just tested on and off with or without registration, and really don't experience any noticeable difference regardless of how it's set. None the less, its apparently active on T-Mobile network.
Really?

I cant get 4g on my sony xperia m2 and when i got to network operators no 4g shows up please help

question....

I recently joined this site and i have 2 Sprint Galaxy S3s that i'm looking to Flash to a prepay service. The wifeys and mine. I have searched all over this site for a complete guide to make this happen. I don't have a donor phone so it would have to be a plan that doesn't involve using a donor, if that's possible. Like i said i'm new to this but i really want to do this. I have a lot of patience and i want to learn. I live in PA so the main prepay i hear about is Boost Mobile(i have had before and truley would like to be on), Straight talk, or page plus i guess. Or if someone would be able to remotely help me out would be great. I've seen many mail in sites but the wifey doesn't like the idea of mailing our phones out. Plus no luck of local flashers that don't charge outrageous money. Any help would be great, Thank you.
First answer for you and any user is to read and study all previous posts about stuff on this topic. Using the search feature is a huge advantage too.
XDA is a sight for developers, development, and learning said development - it is not a support site.

[Q] Someone please help me! (PP FLASHING QUESTION)

Hello my mom owns a Sprint Galaxy Nexus. She has been using the phone on Page Plus for the past couple of months. I set it up for her using this guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696621.
I have recently acquired a Samsung Fascinate from my cousin. I wish to use this as a donor phone since the Sprint model only gets 2g without the 3g keys. I have searched for guides on how to extract the keys and use them on the Nexus but they are not written specifically for the Galaxy Nexus which uses dfs. All of the other guides are tutorials for different software. This has been bothering her for the past couple of months because 2g is painfully slow. I would really appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction or helping me in any way. Thank you so much for taking the time to view my thread.
Anyone out there??
Really? No one knows how to help me or even point me in the right direction? I realize that I may have posted in the wrong forum and someone is welcome to move it if it gets me help. I want to activate her phone but she isn't willing to accept 1x.
Really??!! THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP
Wow, I should say kudos to me for my thread getting 154 views and NO replies.:victory: There are hundreds of people on this forum that flashed their phones to page plus, some even used donors, but the one thing they all have in common is their initiative to help others. Thank you all for the invisible, magical insight!:good: Hopefully I can learn from the MOUNDS of responses I have to sort through.:fingers-crossed:
