Question about sound in video<poor quality> - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
This is my first post, anyway..Do you have a some reason why HTC use 3gp video codec, and how I make this change(In my before Nokia E52 have a mp4 video codec, and sound in video is really good). I ask because, sound in video in HTC Desire is poor(I know the HTC desire use AAC audio codec), is not the same level as video(even in 720p). For me this is strange, HTC is cost 2x more then Nokia E52. Maybe You know or work to fix this in software. Of course I have a Android 2.2(wait for the officially 2.3). Thx for You help.
Ps. Sorry for my english, I come from Poland, and my english is not the best, but I still learn it..

3GP is not a codec. It is a file container.
The codec for the video is either H.263/H.264/MP4.
2. HTC desire does not use the AAC codec natively (in 2.2 Froyo), it uses AMR-NB (however it should be AMR-WB in the forthcoming Gingerbread update).
Solution use, LGCamera from the market. Or use a HD/Z ROM port.

Sorry, my fault, of course this is container. Hmm..the second solution is good, but can I get this rom, and how to instal?
Ps. Maybe XDA-Dev work to fix this problem in software.

1. Search LGcamera on the market.
2. Look in the developement section for tutorials and ROM.
3. I highly doubt about anybody is working currently on that fix. Maybe in next official update.

Better Recoding Video Quality with XPERIA CAMERA

Hi brothers, now I wrtie to ask if somebody knows where is the register entry for the xperia camera, I think i found it but it won't show all the entries that the HTC cameras show. The HTC cameras registry entries has all detailed on different folders like JPEG settings, medium quality video, high qualitity video, and stuff like that.
Well, I think that I have the solution for the bad quality video of the xperia when you shake o move your phone, I think you know that I mean. You see always pixelation, and that have various reasons. One is that the video format is very bad quality for, it's only 3GP and we don't have a choice like other HTC Cameras when you have MP4, CIF and other formats. Other reason is the video's bitrate and THIS is our solution.
If we can turn up the bitrate of course we'll have better quality in the videos and we can see especialy an improment in scenarios like sports when we have to move the phone very much. Of course, that bitrate increment become the video more heavy but that's something we have to deal with because the quality worth it.
Other solution is find a way to change the video format to H264 or MP4 and combine the bitrate idea with this video format too.
I have been making some experiments but no luck yet. Any ideas?
Nobody?
I'm sure that somebody can post one good idea. Come on people, you guys make the best HTC's roms and more, I don't think you have no idea about solving this. Somebody?
I think its Sony+HTC problem, not something that belongs to here ...
just like u can't have smile shutter, same ways, u can't change recording format ... may be some time in future, Sony might add support for h264 recording in firmwares, just like they added auto flash and geotag in leaked R3AA/R4AA rom.
Thanks for the reply
Thnaks for the answer! You are totally right in every point BUT I think that waiting is not an option for me because I bought the Xperia almost replacing my HTC TyTN + Sony Camera. I like to record almost all the concerts I go and the Xperia is the right option if we can make some camera improvements. I think if someone give me the xperia camera source code I can do everything by myself, or at least that is that I have in mind
Even, I think we can make a few changes for the camera to allow to zoom when recording video (if somebody haven't done it yet..).
In other hand, where can I find the R4AA rom? I didn't know that was already out. Again, thanks for the reply!

there is no r4aa. he was refering to unknown sourced leaked camera app with geotagging and auto flash, which supposed to be present in r3aa, but never was actually.
zoom facility in the video recording of the xperia is a very welcome step...hope somebody smart enough in the xda forum look forward to it...
I think it could be done, because the camera app uses a system file to access the camera, then it uses a video or picture encoder to produce a picture or a video. If somebody change the encoder and set the new parameters or settings into the camera app i think that it will work.
Exactly
And I'm your men, I wanna do that, but I have to view the source code or something. Where can I find it? Anyone on this forum can give me a hand to start working? Thanks!
I think that the better way is create a new camera app and add lots of features and then sell the app to a company like spb.

[Q] Codec for 720p recording?

I've read that I need to install an MPEG4 Codec to enable 720p recording on my HTC Desire. Is this true? If so, where can I find it?
That's not true at all.
If you're on Android 2.2 (FroYo) then it's activated.

That's ok then.
Cheers.
But bea in mind that unless you're doing a simple upload to Youtube, and instead want to get video onto your PC for editing, you're probably going to have to convert the vids, especially because of the rubbish AMR audio.
I recommend either SUPER or MPEG Streamclip, both are free and both work wonders!
out of the 3 h.... h.... and mpeg which one is the vest to record with?

Desire sound recording / LgCamera

Hello!
After searching and reading through threads, I came to nothing. I try to find out, if it is possible to record 720p (or even 800x480) video with high quailty audio - I mean in better way than the standard 8khz, AMR, Mono codec.
From the threads here (and other forums) I learned different things. Some people said, it is impossible, some say, it is possible and some say they already have it.
Also tried lgCamera app from the Market (version 4.4) and tried EVERY possible combination of resolution, encoder, bitrate, audio codec, etc. - none of them worked and got Record video failed error.
Any help on this? Recommended settings?
BTW, I am using a rooted Desire (AMOLED) with LeeDroid 2.3C
Thanks in advance,
David

Considering Gingerbread and audio...

So it was confirmed and shown that Android 2.3 was to contain a low latency audio pipeline. I'm not sure if it's something that took place retrospectively, or could only happen with apps made with the sdk after that version, but I'm pretty sure it was mentioned that you had to enable a variable exclusive to it in the code development of your app.
The thing is, I haven't seen an application utilizing this feature yet. Is no one developing that intrigued with it yet, or what? Also, is this something that the HTC Desire can actually pull off, considering it didn't receive the upgrade and has to be done via custom rom?
Thanks for any input or knowledge given.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Running Gingerbread Using the lg camera software I can video with HD audio AAC 48,000hz sample rate 204800 bitrate (quality matches my old Sony DV cam without the tape in) on 2.2 I could only record amr 8,000hz 12800 bitrate which sounds worse than the phone call sound quality.

[Q] patching the libOmxVdec.so

Hey everyone has anybody tried to patch the libOmxVdec.so on the xperia play to allow 720p hardware decoding playback on diceplayer. If anyone has help please.
Never even heard of this, but might be interested to take a shot at it. Any links to more info?
this is the link http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CCAQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D1170541&ei=4QhuTv22CMbWsgaa1OHbBA&usg=AFQjCNHDxkGeiowt7K15TxQdost8QHH7sA
ive tried but it messed up instead
this is another link u could try http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&drKey=1359&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D1170541&v=1&libid=1315834125439&out=http%3A%2F%2Fdiceplayer.inisoft.co.kr%2Fnews-and-tips&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D1259093&title=%5BMOD%5D%20%5B720p%20HW%20PLAYBACK%5D%20libOmxVdec.so%20(removal%20of%20h%2Fw%20restrictions%20in%20playback)%20-%20xda-developers&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fdiceplayer.inisoft.co.kr%2Fnews-and-tips&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13158341317751
This very well may be possible after having looked into it a bit. The MSM8255 Snapdragon on the Xperia Play does support hardware playback of 720p... so... very interesting.
yep dats wat im thinking to its very interesting
Isn't the source for that lib present on FXP git?
I imagine it should be.
I gave it a shot with QQPlayer, one of the apps mentioned on the other thread and I saw no difference in video playing performance with a 720p video.
it tried it to and it didnt increase my compatiblity but lowered it in stock player and diceplayer wierd
Don't try patch libomxvdex.so.
This libOmxVdec.so is suitable for QSD8250 not QSD8255.
* edit
you should try libOmxVdec.so from Desire HD.
I'll give it a shot sometime tonight.
