Hello!
After searching and reading through threads, I came to nothing. I try to find out, if it is possible to record 720p (or even 800x480) video with high quailty audio - I mean in better way than the standard 8khz, AMR, Mono codec.
From the threads here (and other forums) I learned different things. Some people said, it is impossible, some say, it is possible and some say they already have it.
Also tried lgCamera app from the Market (version 4.4) and tried EVERY possible combination of resolution, encoder, bitrate, audio codec, etc. - none of them worked and got Record video failed error.
Any help on this? Recommended settings?
BTW, I am using a rooted Desire (AMOLED) with LeeDroid 2.3C
Thanks in advance,
David

I know there has been much discussion with settings for the camera but I haven't found anything helpful in regards to camcorder settings.
I tried to record part of a concert last night and the video and the sound were horrible. Also tried a few videos in daylight and the results were less than stellar.
1st what is the best resolution? I heard using the 720p compresses the file too much so WVGA, VGA, CIF or QVGA?
2nd what is best encoding type? H.263 or MPEG4?
Flicker adjustment? Auto, 50Hz or 60Hz?
I guess I could play around with the settings for awhile but figured why reinvent the wheel if someone has success with settings they are using.
Any help would be appreciated
Hi
This is my first post, anyway..Do you have a some reason why HTC use 3gp video codec, and how I make this change(In my before Nokia E52 have a mp4 video codec, and sound in video is really good). I ask because, sound in video in HTC Desire is poor(I know the HTC desire use AAC audio codec), is not the same level as video(even in 720p). For me this is strange, HTC is cost 2x more then Nokia E52. Maybe You know or work to fix this in software. Of course I have a Android 2.2(wait for the officially 2.3). Thx for You help.
Ps. Sorry for my english, I come from Poland, and my english is not the best, but I still learn it..
3GP is not a codec. It is a file container.
The codec for the video is either H.263/H.264/MP4.
2. HTC desire does not use the AAC codec natively (in 2.2 Froyo), it uses AMR-NB (however it should be AMR-WB in the forthcoming Gingerbread update).
Solution use, LGCamera from the market. Or use a HD/Z ROM port.
Sorry, my fault, of course this is container. Hmm..the second solution is good, but can I get this rom, and how to instal?
Ps. Maybe XDA-Dev work to fix this problem in software.
1. Search LGcamera on the market.
2. Look in the developement section for tutorials and ROM.
3. I highly doubt about anybody is working currently on that fix. Maybe in next official update.
Hi I ve just installed gingervillain 2.3 on my desire and I'd like to know if there is any option of recording 720p video like the the stock rom. Also is there a way to focus by touch to the point I want just like in the stock rom ? Thanks.
With AOSP you won't get a camera app like the stock on. In the changelogs it doesn't mention about 720p recording but have a look in the camera app.
Unfortunately I ve checked every possible setting in camera app but no 720p setting. Is there any other camera app on the market tha offers 720p recording or is it locked by the rom ?
Try lgCamera from the market.
I just tried it and checked the 1280x720 video option but image froze upon recording and the output video was not playable. So I guess it has to do the rom itself. Should I try another rom ? Is any other, AOSP rom preferably, capable of recording 720p video and has generally better camera application? Thanks for your help so far.
Try to use different settings, not just changing the resolution. Try to switch between H.264/MP4 and bitrate, audio codec (this should be AAC) and see if works. People reported working 720p on AOSP ROMs with LGCamera, but you have to mess around with the settings.
I've been trying to increase my camera's quality by editing the "media_profiles.xml" file, without luck. It seems like it's been ignoring my changes to the file. The first thing I've tried to do was simply to increase the fps from 30 to 60, to see what happens. There are many different encoder profiles for 1080p video, so I've edited them all, without luck.
I know that you can already record in 60 fps by selecting the different mode i the camera app, but I'd also like to increase the bitrate of both the video and the audio, and also the resolution (if possible) to the camera sensor's maximum of 2688х1520 pixels. (120 fps possible, for ultra slowmotion?)
I'm s-off with the newest firmware for 4.4.3 and running Android Revolution 9.1 (wiped this morning, so fresh installation).
I know about this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2743174&page=52
But unfortunately it doesn't work for my phone since the 4.4.3 update (even though there's a person saying that it does work for him/her) I also want to learn how to edit the settings so I can customize it so it suits me.
Thanks for reading
Bump!
I'd really appreciate some help!
Help will be greatly appreciated!

I can't help with this, but have you tried asking in the picture thread? There are a couple of guys in there that might help.

Alright, in the thread I linked in OP, I followed the instructions some users suggested and made the mod work again
It works flawlessly for me and many others.
Unfortunately OP is banned, so I've attached the file that's I've edited to work (per the instructions) with Sense 4.4.3 ROMS, happy flashing!
Hey guys,
anyone else experienced bad video sound quality? I found out, that the phone saves videos with 96kbps sound, wich is an explanation why the sound is that bad. But can we do anything against it?

I too am experiencing this issue. Not sure if a fix currently exists. On another note, when I purchased this phone i was hoping for more development support! It may still be early, but not too impressed so far!!
I also just got bitten by this crappy audio when recording videos. It absolutely sucks! Will using a different camera app fix it?

I dont think so as I am already using cam mod.
There must be some audio postprocessing going on. When I record audio with an app (Easy voice recoreder) and choose microphone "Main (unprocessed)" the sound is good. If I choose just microphone "Main" the recording is very bad (the same distorted sound I get in video recordings). So the phone can record good audio. The question is how to record unprocessed sound in video.
The bitrate is 96kbps with no way to change.
I have logged a bug here:

Please confirm the bug and it will get the attention of the team at Xiaomi
i have found a possible solution on the post below, see if it helps (by Callemusicman)

"So I've found a solution, or at least a temporary one
Get the camera app called Lgcamera. In this app you can manually set your audio settings.
Set it to AAC and set the stereo option to On (this did it for me atleast).

I made a little video about it since I couldn't find this solution before, hope it helps!

soo.... to answer to myself it does not work, the audio quality is still 96kbps, I had an idea to record audio separately.
if you start recording only audio with an app like "easy audio recorder" and then you go to the video app and record. the recording audio app won't stop recording its quality is gonna change to 96kbps (bad)
EDIT: yeah, it sucks, only xiaomi can fix it.
I have found a trick to record good audio see my post below.
