Way cleaner

changed wallpaper ))) IMBA DIFFERENCE

The tile now also says if you have Gold or Silver.
I hope this isn't an indication that Mobile based Xbox Live Multiplayer is coming but it's only avaliable to XBL Gold users (I have silver )

Hopefully XBL MuliPlayer!

I guess they have to keep it free atleast for the time being in order to increase their mobile marketshare.

I'm going to guess gold will be a requirement. They tried to make it that way on Games for Windows but the people revolted so they changed it back. It was stupid anyway since on PC games people typically provide their own servers for multiplayer. On Xbox and Windows Mobile I would assume that the server side of multiplayer will be handled at Microsoft hence they will feel the need to charge you extra for it.
I wouldn't mind seeing a change in pricing though, maybe introduce xbox platinum for Xbox and Wp7 (at the current gold price) and gold for wp7 only for like a dollar.
One can dream.
Anyway good luck getting people to pay for Xbox Live Gold for their phones only (for those without 360's) at the current 7 bucks a month.

Zune Network in UK?

Been on the zune website and the only way you can download the software is to get it from the american site, so I'm wondering when the new WP7 handsets come out and have zune access on them will we in england be able to use the service to buy music and videos (if they do it). Ive been looking though the site and the web but not really heard much about it.
As it stands we can only use zune on our xbox 360's and then it uses a stupid point system to purchase instead of saying "that will be £2.99 please", this is one of the reason I prefer the Playstation Networks film service it has more films and uses real money... on the other side its so slow to download anything
Anyway I digress, has anyone heard anything about the zune network and would like to share the info please
I can feel your pain, mate... I live in Belgium and had imported a Zune 80 gb a couple of years back and been happily using it until it died on my last year...
But I use everyday the Zune software, IMHO it's the best out there (unless for .mkv and .flac playback...)
Look, they haven't said muck, but with the Kin due to come out in Germany, and WP7 latter this year, well, it's only a matter of time until they bring out the Zune Pass over in Europe.

X Box Live Hub. Why not a PS3 hub?

I never owned an Xbox and never intend to. PS3 all the way. My question is I would hate having the X Box intergration, avatar, profile details etc as I don't own an X Box and feel it is included and I don't want it.
I hope some time in the future it can be changed to PS3 or WII for other gamers.
No. WP7 is not an open OS, nothing can be replaced or removed.
Sony can make a PS3 hub, but you will not be able to remove the XBox integration.
Sony will launch a new gaming handheld with Android soon, so PS3 integration is coming to Android.
I'm not trying to be rude but that's a bit of a ridiculous question, it's like asking Steve Jobs to put Android apps on Apple TV instead of their own.
No I agree it is a bit of a stupid question but I just wanted to rant
The Live on the console and Live on your phone don't have to be related. If you have it for the xbox, then great, you can integrate it to your phone and have your phone build off of it. If you don't have the Xbox, you can just create an account and every game that you play on your WP7 will count towards your Live account.
It's not like you need have an xbox in order to enjoy your WP7. They can be independent.

I know this pulls away from the phone question, but why have you just dismissed xbox? It's so much better at online gaming and on par with single player. Xbox live is simply the best online gaming portal by a massive margin anyone I have known who owns both consoles end up finding the ps3 sat collecting dust or as just a bluray player. I think anyone who has dismissed xbox should take it for another go esp now live is on mobile phones.
Xbox Live is bar none better than any other platform to date. If you have never used or owned an Xbox 360, you should not have any negative opinion, as that just shows how biased you are. And why would MS give Nintendo or Sony the ability to add their own game hub over Xbox Live? That doesn't make any sense.

Its not that I am biased its just that I already own a next gen games console and have for years - a ps3 and i don't want to spend a money on a second console. I am not a gamer who has multiple consoles. One is enough for me and I have had a psx, ps2 so naturally I chose a ps3. Am sure xbox is great. I just dont intend to get another next gen console. Would rather put the money towards a HD7

thats only a matter of opinion....ive got both... used the xbox online for about a month and when the free subscription ran out i continued to use my ps3 for online purposes. the xbox online service offered nothing extra i required for the fee. and online gaming is only as good as the number of friends you know online to play against... if everyone is on a different platform then its no fun at all! everyone i know plays online on their ps3 and keeps their xbox for playing backups lol.
its not really a solution to suggest to someone that they abandon their games console which they might of had for years and built up a substantial games library. and then purchase a whole new system and start afresh just so they can take advantage of an application on a mobile phone! lol.
i can see the need for a ps3 (or wii) app but its also obvious that microsoft arent going to supply it integrated with their shiny new phone operating system from the offset. it would be interesting if sony or someone develops their own application. but i think it will be as someone already suggested...if an app does appear it will be on android.

XBL on WP7, ignoring the console altogether, is the best mobile online gaming experience all on it's own. The only thing close is Game Center on iPhone and XBL for WP7 easily takes the cake. While owning an Xbox would potentially enhance this further, it is by no means necessary.

Well yea because it's not even possible in WP7, yet. But that's not really XBL. Once MS adds sockets support to WP7, it will take the crown in every facet.
real time multiplayer games are comning sometime early to mid next year.
And when its on XBL, multiplayer experience has to be great.
You say that you are not biased but:
"I never owned an Xbox and never intend to. PS3 all the way."
That sounds pretty close-minded and biased. And the question is silly. Why not use Bing as the default search engine on a Google phone?
Now, the decision is by no means one that hinders the phone. XBL is the best online gaming service out there. So, unlike the decision to use Bing as the only search engine in WP7, XBL is the best available.
I sold my old elite cuz I needed the money. I would like to get one back and a Windows Phone. I may seem like a Microsoft fool, but I actually prefer the Wii and Motorola Phones. Maybe Moto will make a Q WP7

I don't have a Xbox, and because I don't now anybody else that has a windows phone I can't compare my scores on the leaderbord. (I would love to see a general leaderbord for Xbox live)
Everyone with the same issue as me please post your gamertag name. I will start first with mine:

Well you dont exactly need an Xbox to increase your gamerscore. Even games such as Fallout 3, GTA4 etc which support GFWL on Windows use the gamerscore.
But the addition of WP7 to Xbox live is really great, I can now increase my gamerscore on the go while in the train or a bus or even inflight.

Good idea. I moved out to the country and no longer have broadband access at home..and my XBOX won't recognize the ad hoc network that I create on my Vibrant. So, I abandoned my old gamer tag and created a new one for my WP7.
Im not sure how the whole process of adding friends works over the phone, though. I went into my profile on XBOX Live on my phone, did a search for my brothers gamer tag, found it, and pressed the plus sign at the bottom to add him. But, nothing happened after that, and he says he didn't receive any kind of notification on his XBOX. Am I missing something? Btw, my gamer tag is Joe Ra78

[Q] Why is microsoft putting its software on iOS?

Microsoft seem to be putting their software onto apples phone, http://wmpoweruser.com/how-to-alienate-your-customers-101/
whats next microsoft office on iOS if this continues then there will be on reason to get a wp7 device, after all, the iphone has a better gpu, far more memory (i live in the uk so 16gb is the max 8gb is the norm) so why would i want to buy a wp7 device again if MS starts doing this???

why should they not?
WP7 has a different user experience and i like it much more than the android/ios experience....wp7 wouldn`t a good plattform if only the apps are the pros for it.
And why not give iOS users possibility to like office and maybe consider wp7 for their next phone then?

Geez. Why should you buy a WP7 rather than iPhone? Because the user experience between the two devices are completely different.
Obviously apps are going to be cross platform, Microsoft is after all a software company. Now, one could argue that they should perhaps do what Google does - and wait with releasing their apps on other platforms until they absolutely have to, but this is the iPhone we are talking about - they have to.
Good Point bro!!!
And because in the futur all softwares will be able to run all platform.

Then why do they not port Halo to PS3 for example? Like you said, they are a software company, and could easily double the revenue. MS are idiots for not porting Xbox games like Halo to other platforms.
Keep in mind that the software developed for the iPhone was a separate team from those working on Wp7.
Also, if iphone users start to use a bunch of microsoft apps, maybe they will think "maybe I should be using a microsoft phone" and then buy a windows phone. Sure it could go the other way as well... but I'm an optimist.
To make money, as what pretty much most if not all paid apps are for.

Because console games are complicated and require certain components to work. Every smartphone uses the same SoC set no matter what OS they run whether it would be snapdragon, omap, a4, etc. The consoles are made differently, the 360 with tri-cores and the ps3 uses something really confusing. Than again, Final Fantasy did appear on the Xbox, but Sony didn't exclusive rights to that game.
I would imagine that it is miles easier for porting apps, or maybe they want to do something like having an app on a certain phone will just run better as oppose to something not native.

I didn't . Don't get me wrong, I loved my iPhone (until Apple butchered it with iOS 4), but when I went to go snag an iPhone 4 and got to play with it side by side with the Samsung Focus, the choice was clear--Focus is a MUCH nicer device, with a nicer screen and of course, Windows Phone 7 itself--which makes iOS look antiquated and stale.
That said, I also have a 2010 Macbook Pro 13" which I got purely so I can submit apps to the iOS store, but I can't stand Mac OSX, it's a ****in' turd. So I'm glad the laptop runs Windows 7 nicely enough, LOL.

MS also makes the hardware for the XBOX. And they sold the hardware at a loss. Their revenue model was dependent on software attach rates being high on the console. People often choose game consoles based on exclusive games. MS could spend millions marketing Halo because they know that the reason people buy XBOX consoles is so that they could play awesome games. Period. Everything else the XBOX does is just gravy.
People buy smartphones for so many different reasons.
MS can't invest millions of dollars into the promotion and marketing of a single app, because a large portion of customers won't care about it.
Bing and One Note are fighting for mindshare. You can't have a killer phone app if nobody even knows what it is.
The only way to market and advertise how good Bing and One Note could be is by putting it the hands of the most people possible. And for now, that's on the iPhone.

If you are using a smartphone for a single app, than you need to rethink.
I heard that you can get Bing on Android devices as well, although not many people actually want it (seeing that it is a Google phone). I think putting Microsoft software on other OS' is not a bad idea. After all, you see Microsoft everywhere.

You comment doesn't make any sense. They sell hardware at a loss and make money from games. Keeping Xbox exclusives would make sense if they made money from the hardware. Since they make money from the games, they should be doing everything to port games to other platforms as well.
Thing is, Microsoft is the top player in the console industry - so they don't have to port games to other platforms. The increase in revenue would likely be offset by the increase in development cost to support the PS3 and/or Wii. Not to mention the fact that Microsoft Game Studio titles do drive console sales (I know plenty of people who have bought an Xbox 360 purely because of Halo for example); higher console sales lead to higher revenue (even if they did initially sell hardware at a loss) as people pay for the XBL Gold service, spend money in the Xbox marketplace and purchase Xbox 360 games (for which MS get's a license fee no matter if it's an in-house title or not).
This is pretty much how the printer/ink/toner industry or coffee-pod industry works also. They sell the hardware at little to no profit but you are tied in to buying their ink/toner or coffee-pods for the lifetime of the product. It's actually cheaper for me to purchase a new CLP every so often than it is to buy new toner - when I then sell the old printer online I more or less come out at zero cost.
In the smartphone sector, Apple is the king of the hill and it only makes sense to have their software available. Apps do not drive phone sales; UX (User eXperience) does. Keeping a title exclusive to WP7 makes no sense at all. At the same time, it does not make sense (business wise) to support all possible smartphone platforms out there, only iOS and Android has a valuable marketplace (app wise) so those are the platforms to support - this is why Google hasn't released their apps as official WP7 clients thus far; Windows Phone 7 doesn't have a big enough marketshare that it pays for them to spend development dollars on it. Once the OS gains momentum (if it does) Google will rather quickly release what they have to offer.
All said, I do agree it's painful when "better" software appears for the iPhone rather than their own OS, WP7, but this goes back to the fact Microsoft are so large. There is no single person making decisions, they have COO's and project managers en masse, often trying to out-do eachother or vote other projects down as they step on their own projects toes. Microsoft is filled to the brim with highly competent people, but they operate like a bureaucracy. Ask anyone who's ever worked there and they'll all more or less tell the same story - the layers of hierarchy is killing creative output.
How many times has Microsoft not come out with killer products which has failed miserably in the marketplace because upper management hasn't seen or understood the possibility. Take Media Center for example, it has given the best UX for DVRs for years - still, they never took it to the next level and now it's almost too late. With a lot of luck their embedded Media Center's showcased (in a back-room no less?!) at CES may make a dent in the market, but it's highly unlikely as they missed the boat. GoogleTV, AppleTV, Boxee and a whole lot of other players are now ruling the roost.
That's exactly what they did with the mobile sector also - they had great ideas and were the top players years ago. But they became complacent and stopped innovating. Then other players came along and completely killed them; what was WM's marketshare last year? How much of that was made up of HD2 sales which were re-flashed with Android?

This is off topic but why would you want to port Halo to the PS3? Halo is more aimed at muliplayer and as everyone knows Playstation sucks at on-line gaming.

Microsoft Annouces 14 new games for Xbox live and I want to shoot myself in the face.

Oher than the non live titles made by independant developers I am starting to think this phone will never make it past the casual gaming.

a phone is perfect for casual gaming. I did buy "The Harvest" and while it was excellent it wasn;'t nearly as enjoyable for quick plays when you have free time etc
Halo. Forza 4 (perfect for WP7, even downloading "ghost" cars to race against to climb the leaderboards). MIA. Missed opportunity.
Ya Know when they were hyping up "The Harvest" and talking about how games like this were an display of what windows mobile could do I should have known it was a trap.

This just looks like some of the new titles announced at the Gamescom event so i wouldnt take it as the difinitive list, specially seeing as there were over 60+ new XBL games for WP7 announced at the event. http://www.bestwp7games.com/
Maybe MS still need to attract the attention of the major gamehouses that furnish the other platforms with the titles i think you would like to see. Once the mango update is officially released and revenue begins to flow i'm sure the better titles will come.
Have patience though, MS has the Xbox platform and all of the software contacts it needs to make this work, they wouldnt purposefully make WP7 crappy imho.
In the meantime there are some top titles in the marketplace already (sonic, harvest, PES etc...) and i'm sooo looking forward to Toy Soldiers.
Regards,
Creamy
I think we'd all be better off in this forum if posters of topics like this did, indeed, shoot themselves in the face.

Halo. Forza 4 (perfect for WP7, even downloading "ghost" cars to race against to climb the leaderboards). MIA. Missed opportunity.

Forza 4 Maybe, but how the hell you gonna play Halo on a phone? It's hard enough on the console.
Meh, on the phone I want games that I can take up and play for a few minues when I'm waiting for a bus or something like that, games that is fast to get into and that I can quit anytime.
For hardcore gaming a have a PC.
What about games like call of duty and black oops? GTA auto theft..?

You're joking right? You want to play these on a phone? The only hardcore game I would try on a phone is a RTS. That said, even on the casual front WP7 is doing poorly. The OS was announced 18 months ago and released 10 months ago and Xbox Live is still a joke. They should have just called it Games for WP and added the Live name in a year or two because as it is now it's doing the brand a disservice.
Oh by the way, there's no game release next week.

You gotta be kidding me.. such games are already their for android.. people say that: 'with an android phone with you, you dont need to buy those sony handhelds.. '
here is one example:

I am just giving it more time till mango .. if we continue to see current list of sub-par games like 'tic tac toe' and 'tap here to kill an ant and get achievements'.. than unfortunately i will make that switch by June. Because it is not an enterprise phone either, so if it cant help me in work than at least compensate that by bringing in serious entertainment.
The OP has a valid gripe. The horsepower is there and the talent is there. These franchises can translate to the phone. I play FIFA and NBA Jam and FPS games on my iPod touch and iphone. Why can't my Focus do the same?
