Desire HD Official ROM - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I have an HTC Desire HD since yesterday and I'm a little noob in this situation that's true
The phone has the Vodafone Original ROM but it's unlocked in SIM card so I'm using a different operator.
My noob question is this, how can I put a official rom without "vodafone" stuff?
The information I have is this:
android 2.2.1
Desire HD Build/FRG83D
Bootloader: 0.85.0018
Brand: vodafone_uk
Display: FRG83D
Build number: 1.75.161.2 CL301245
Software number: 1.75.161.2
I wouyld like to have the WWE Official ROM in this, is that possible?
thank
Santos

Because your ROM is 1.75 it will need to be downgraded to 1.32 to gain root & before you can flash any ROM of your choice. But why downgrade to stock, when you could flash a custom ROM such as LeeDrOiD with sense, and close to stock on the surface, but a Ferrari under the hood!
You will also need ADB drivers / SDK Tooks etc setup on your PC first. This guide will help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865685
Then you can follow this guide to downgrade, including making a 'Gold Card':
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
After downgrade, you'll need to gain root, so follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
Then you can then flash any ROM using clockworkmod recovery. Some versions are only compatible with certain ROMs, so read the first page of the OP in detail and scan the threads. clockworkmod recovery can be downloaded from within an app called ROM Manager. You will need to give it "superuser" permission when promted. This Superuser is installed with the Visionary tool you will read about. It's the first step after you managed to downgrade to 1.32.
Best to make sure you read everything, and do not miss any step. Read the warnings and advice first.
When I did it in Jan, it was quite alot of work to download all the tools needed and copy to the sdk "tools" folder. From memory; psneuter, fastboot.exe, adb.exe, some dll files etc. It's all in the guides, just got to look carefully. Once I worked out how to communicate with the phone in CMD (Command Prompt) it was a sinch. Just make sure your phone is connected with phone settings; USB De-bugging enabled, and Fastboot disabled.

[Q] Android Revolution 2.0.7 Radio Flashing Ready?

Hello everyone, a new HTC Desire HD user here.
Right now I am very glad that I just succeeded in flashing my first rom. I chose Android Revolution 2.0.7 after very close looks at relevant posts and instructions. Well, it worked. But now that I am ready to flash the radio, some new questions arise.
Before I flashed this ROM I downloaded VISIONary+ and Terminal Emulator to root the device and install h-boot as instructed. I also followed this post in order to S-Off Radio as suggested by the author of the ROM.
My question is, now that I've installed Android Revolution HD 2.0.7, the VISIONary+ program and also the SuperUser app icon which appeared in the old ROM after I used the rooting tool have all gone. Is the new system still guaranteed with ROOT and HBOOT? If not, the new system is based on official HTC update 1.72.405.3, therefore VISIONary+ does not work on it right?
Do I continue on to radio flashing without hassel, or do I have to find some way to redo ROOT, HBOOT and Radio S-Off?
(Sorry for the long essay, I tried to explain the question as clearly as possible. Any help much appreciated!)

[q] rom downgrade failed! Why? Need suggestion

Hi, I need your suggestions.
As in my sig below, My DZ is unrooted and is having Stock ROM 1.84.708.1 (via OTA), which is a Hongkong DZ (with Chinese Keyboard).
After long search and read all references here (XDA) and other forums, I finally decided to root my DZ.
I understand that my current version cannot be rooted.
So, as per references, I have to downgrade the ROM to lower version. Then, after search, I found this ROM v.1.34.708.3.
Then, as a preparation, I installed Android SDK, HTC Sync, and Created a GOLD CARD, its all done in accordance with instructions provided here various threads.
Then, I put the ZIP file from the older rom (1.34.) into the root of my GOLD CARD. Then I reboot my DZ into Bootloader. Then I start flashing.
After full process, it said that
"Update failed" rom is older...
Then, it automatically reboot and go back to the current one (1.84)
I need your suggestion and help because I really want to root my DZ.
Is there any way to downgrade it?
or Is there any way or tools to root it directly (without downgrade it) at this current version (1.84)?
If no positive solutions, then my DZ will be stuck in UNROOTED state forever
Thanks in advance, and cheers.....

Hi !
The ""Update failed" rom is older..." indicates that you did not change the main version number in the misc_partition to a number lower then the one of the PC10IMG.zip that you are installing.
In the beginning of the rooting guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2 there is a link to the downgrade thread for the DZ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261.
In this thread there is also the instructions on how to set the main version using misc_version. You have to set it to 1.34.708.3 or lower.

[Q] What is the most easy way to root an Telus HTC Desire HD 2.2.1

Hey I got a Desire HD through Telus and I am looking for the easiest way to root it. It is on Android 2.2.1 plus I also the the RUU for it. Now which is the best way????
There are many guides here at XDA, just have a look around ...............
If you are carrier branded, you may require to make a Goldcard & Downgrade to build 1.32......
After that, you will need to Permroot, S-Off (to flash custom ROMs & or kernels) & ENG S-off (Flash recommened radio - can have a risk, so read all warnings)
There is a Goldcard tool around that works fro the DHD, you just have to change a couple of things.
[GUIDE] How to downgrade 1.7x/1.8x/2.x to 1.32.405.6 to stock 1.32 first.
You can follow Dev jkolijo, has also a couple of threads and tools for S-off & Eng S-off
OR
Just Goldcard & Downgrade first.
Phone settings: USB degugging enabled & Fastboot off. Connect phone in charge only mode. Exit HTC sync.
Unzip & run AMT.exe
Default, Permroot device & ENG HBOOT (Optinional) for flashing recommended radio. You can even select recovery version(.img) to install & radio.img
"committ changes"
Thread: [DEV APP] Updated! AMT v1.2 - ROOT, S-OFF, Flash Radio, Recovery, Boot
Download: AMT Tool
Download Index of /cm/recoveries recovery-clockwork-x.x.x.x-ace.img
Thread (List of radios): [RADIO][LATEST: 26.08.04.07]The HTC Desire HD Radio Thread
Custom ROMs & kernels are flashable zip placed on your sdcard (not extracted) and flashed through a new recovery called Clockworkmod (CWM) Recovery.
Advice: read everything first (at least twice) including the FAQ and as much of the recent posts as possible. Download all required files & setup first. Read all warning, and do not miss a step.
Added info: When flashing a radio or ENG S-Off, use a battery powered notebook only, just in case of any power surges. Check md5 checksum match of radio / correct radio build for(very important), also RUU, Custom ROMs or Kernels to make sure not corrupted.
Hope this helps to get you started.
Question though, what is the gold card do, I have the RUU
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I don't have Telus, but my above post is general guide and where to start.
The goldcard will allow your RUU to bypass CID (Carrier ID) checks so you can downgrade to 1.32 RUU. If the goldcard is not created correctly, you will get a CID error or mismatch (something like that) when you try to flash the RUU.
Try making a goldcard with the 1.32 RUU PD98IMG.zip, I don't think there will be a problem if you've built the goldcard correctly. Make sure sdcard is clean and FULL format fat32. Copied from Jkolio thread: Use "mmc2" instead of "mmc1"!! Apparently sometimes you need a 2gb card and or somehave had to try a few different cards to make it work. Once the goldcard is done and downgraded (after downgrade, make sure replace goldcard with another sdcard, don't boot with it in) and keep in a safe place if you ever want to return phone to original.
I don't believe there is a 1.32 RUU for Telus (maybe I'm wrong), but if you ever need to return to original, there is a Telus 1.84 RUU about.
Up to you which method of rooting, the AMT Tool seems the easiest (All-in-one : select Permroot, ENG S-Off, Default,). I had to root, S-off, ENG S-off, flash etc the 'old school' way, so your lucky to have so many excellent guides and tools by these wizard Devs..................
Try this Goldcard Maker, you don't need to use a HxD Hex Editor. Seems all in one. Don't forget to select mmc2 in step 3.

[Q] Rooting + Custom Roms: What to care about?

OK, so first of all: YES, I have read almost every sticky about this.
I just want to make sure, I'll do everything right and not destroy my phone.
My Goal:
- Root access (to disable HTCs annoying startup sound and various apps )
- Installing a fast + battery-saving + stable Sense-Based ROM
- Having the possiblity to restore everything to factory default when needed
My Phone:
HTC Desire HD w/ Android Version 2.3.3
I've read that you cannot root your device with this version. Am I right?
My Questions:
- How can I make a backup of my original Android + HTC Sense files?
- Will there be any situation that I am not able to restore anything when my Phone is messed up? (I remember my old iPhone, if something went wrong with the JB, you just needed to go into iTunes, press Restore and everything is fine)
I don't want to make a Quick Shot like read one tutorial, do it like that and boom, Phone's messed up.
Can you recommend me tutorials for:
- Creating a backup?
- Rooting my phone?
- Installing a custom 2.3.3 ROM?
- What else I need to do to perform those 3 above steps?
(Yes, I've read the stickies as I said, but I always like other users to directly help me with my questions )
Thank you in advance Fellas
So OK, I've managed to come a little clearer:
1.: Permroot via Visionary - very easy, seems to work with any Android Version
2.: S-Off: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403 + Radio-S-Off: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537 - seems to be quite easy as well, BUT requires a downgrade
3.: I am able to install custom ROMs
So: To fully "unlock" my phone I'll probably need to downgrade it? But if I install custom ROMs I can basically choose any Android Version I want?
AND: What about Backups/Restore/etc. if anything goes wrong? Which security do I have?
WAIT!
Permroot Visionary only works on sense build 1.32 ONLY.
You will only gain temproot and have the options to:
[*] Backup data with Titanium Backup
[*] Directly downgrade to 1.32
You could use this guide to downgrade
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152233
Follow the guide carefully, as mistake will bring upon the brick lord. But you'll be safe once you've downgrade to 1.32. Plus, if its bricked anyway, just install ruu using adb and you'll be back to your stock sense.
8penned from my blazing fast DHD
So if something goes wrong while Downgrading I still don't have a 100% brick?
PS: Yes I discovered Visionary didn't work for 2.3.3 (even Temproot didn't work). I now try to use GingerBreak to root it and backup my current Android Version using ROM Manager. But GingerBreak is running the second time for over half an hour and nothing changes (USB Debugging enabled, SD Card Mounted)
The critical "flashes" are the bootloader and the radio. At least the radio is flashed while downgrading. I am not sure about the bootloader.
But the risk to brick your phone is very very low. But it is possible.
Edit: If Gingerbreak does not work, you have to check your build number. It is in settings, phone info, software info. The build number has be be lower or equal 2.36. If it is higher, you have to use a build number 2.50 guide to root your phone.

[Q] Can i root HTC desire HD ver 2.3.3... ?

Hi Guys can anyone tell me if my phone is possible of root.
Android Version 2.3.3
Sw Version 2.50.161.3
Thank you
You can root but not before you have downgrade -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
No fix for sw v.2.50.x so far
After that you can upgrade to 2.36.405.2 and use Gingerbreake 1.20 to still have root and su.
this is a simple guide how to downgrade your desire hd and than root it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152233
oh, yeah, if you don't have branded device there is no need for gold card.
On a second note - you might want to backup your current APN details (Access Point Name and password for your internet data connection) before you flash to another rom. APN Backup & Restore does this easily. You save your default carrier APN info to an xml file on your SD Card. Then when you flash a new rom, the first thing you can do is run APN Backup & restore, delete the rom default APNs, restore your own and then connect to the net as usual. This is useful if the rom you flash doesn't have your correct APN with it or has a list and you don't know which one to choose. (This can save a billing headache too.)
You might want to backup your current rom too in case you need to swap back to it.
This is just in case you are new to all of this.
You cannot root any newer HTC desire hd stock rom, what you can do is downgrade, and then root. If you really love stock rom then flash a pre rooted stock rom.
BUT to flash, you need ROOT, S-OFF. And to ROOT and S-OFF you need to DOWNGRADE FIRST.
if you are like me and you are unable to downgrade by those tutorials due to the software version your on use this.....
THEY WONT LET ME POST LINK! IF YOU EMAIL ME ILL SEND YOU THE LINK
[email protected]
guaranteed to work took me 5 days to find this.
Follow it to the letter and you will be fine.
ace hack kit, located here on xda, will do it all for you, you simply install, follow the instructions and let the premade hack kit, downgrade, root, and prepare you to flash a rom, it is soooo simple anyone can do it. Read the manual inside of the hack kit.
Thanks button always appreciated!
ace hack kit- .. May be i got it wrong, but there was some problem using this tool on dhd eu version (build number/software n 2.50.xxx)

yes, u can after a successful downgrade, that's what I did
sure you can, here are so much kind-heart men.
Root without downgrade!
How about:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-hd/
It's as easy as "download -> run" and it works brilliantly!
I suggest, instead of doing it on Windows and dealing with all them complications, just booting a Ubuntu Live CD (it's not as bad as it sounds, I actually liked it the first time I tried it and now I have it installed by my Windows) and just run the command:
wget http://droid.neolobster.com/roms/aahk-25102011.zip && unzip aahk-25102011.zip && sudo ./hack-ace.sh

in terminal, press "1" and be afk for 5 mins.
Doesn't erase your data, doesn't format your phone, doesn't downgrade your Android OS.
What it DOES do is:
Automagically turn your sdcard into a goldcard
Set Radio S-OFF
Set SuperCID
Remove Carrier SIMLOCK
Install Clockworkmod Recovery
Root the phone
Install RomManager
Install Superuser
Good luck with it
I would recommend arhd 6.1.5 from mike1986 after root
