Hello guys. I was wondering if someone.could please help me with rooting my wife's evo. I'm not familiar with the evo. I've been researching it the.past couple days. My question is in the wiki I see the universal auto root but that uses unrevoked. I have just been reading that unrevoked causes problems so I was wondering if there.is a better way than using the unrevoked. My wife's evo is hardware 4 hboot 2.10 radio-2.15.00.11.19 and on software.version 3.70. So does using unrevoked cause.problems? Thanks for.all your help.
Nope unrevoked is the best way I love it, press a button boom follow simple instructions and your rooted!

no issue with unrevoked for me have used on 2 evos
if you want to get adventurous, try the link in my sig.
Thank you guys alot. I haven't been keeping up on the evo like I wanted to with the.epic finally getting 2.2 about time. Damn you guys had it for a while and are getting honeycomb to boot up. Amazing work. So if I use unrevoked forever and an update comes out how does that work? I know you get to keep root but what steps do you take? Thanks alot guys for the help.
Dkdude36 that rooting way.looks fun. Its alot.more involved.
haha ya that rooting method is 'fun' its not as hard as it seems though. to update, just flash a rom with the new software. if you dont know how to do this, then you probably should have used the manual root to learn, but i will tell you anyways.
Oh ok I got ya. Think you so much.bro. I appreciate the.help and support. One.more question. I know.its.personal preference but what is your favorite rom/kernel?

my favorite is the newest cm7 nightly (whichever is newest at any given time ) plus savagezen's newest nosbc. savagezen needs like a day of conditioning so you might get bad results the first day. just stay on it and you will be impressed. i get 30+ hrs battery and high 1550's quadrant scores.
Awesome. You guys have alot of options to choose from. I guess I'll look at what you showed me and show the wife and let her find one. Her problem is she loves htc sense. So I might be limited on what I can pick. I really just want to get that bloatware off and overclock it for her to speed it up. So if I use the universal script it flashes Amon ra recovery right? I've never used that before. I have always used clockwork Mod before.

I've always used unrevoked and then when its done I go into recovery and flash amon RA. Its worked multiple times for me. There are a bunch of different sense Roms out there. Warm and mikfroyo are most popular though. Plus a ton of themes and overclocked kernals to go with them. I myself use cm7 but its all personal choice.
If I use the universal root doesn't that flash amon ra recovery for me? Or do I have to do that after.I complete the root?

Will do thanks bro. It looks really easy. I would.love to try cm7 on the evo. I know my wife would hate it but oh well. Once again thank you. You have really helped me understand everything. I always thought the evo was hard to root cause of the nand lock. I guess you could say I was intimidated by it. Just looking around you all have a great community here. Ill definitely be hanging around here a little more.

I'm running mikfroyo 4.6 beta at the moment to tes along with net toast 4.3.2 havsmore sbc... you cant go wrong with mikfroyo 4.5 with net toast 4.3.1 havs...quick. give it a shot and see how you like it
The sbc and nosbc is just how it trickle charges right (nosbc doesn't trickle charge)? How is the battery life with the nosbc one?
Definitely want some better battery life but don't want to kill my battery either. I'm running the sbc one now.

amon. i find it a lot cleaner than clockwork. and theres alot less roaming through the options
Amon... but that is all I have used since 1st week rooted

I use Ra btw.
ra for sure, ive been using it since day one. i never use cwm, i have a few times but don't like it.
I used AmonRA on my MyTouch 3G back in the day and liked it. When I first rooted it I used Clockwork for the ease of updating through Rom Manager app, but as I learned my way around rooting and flashing and Android for that matter I started using AmonRA and doing everything manually. I wish I would have never used Clockwork on my EVO, but when I first rooted it instead of doing it the long way I used Unrevoked3. I made a backup as soon as it was done and lost my RSA keys after running Clockwork for about a week and having to Nandroid restore. Been using AmonRA ever since. I am sure that Clockwork has fixed the Wimax issue, but I still prefer AmonRA because now I am used to it. I also like Amon options better and I know it is wiping my davlik cache when I tell it to.
My point is that I never used CWM and I want to know what it has and does that AR doesn't....
That's your point?
Amon, here, for whatever that's worth .... which, apparently, isn't much.

That's part of it....
Compatibility with Rom Manager is probably the biggest draw for Clockwork. Some people use RM religiously. I've never used it, because it reminds me of some bad experiences I've had flashing a PC BIOS with a Windows app. I'm sure it works fine, but I'm old fashioned, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Also, AR was the first to backup RSA keys. I've never lost mine but I've never looked back.

Restoring apps is just a part of flashing, this isn't a great selling point. I've had problems with CWM not working with certain rom's and all around RA is just cleaner and to the point. To each their own I guess but you are the minority here my friend.

Be sure to make a nandroid backup before removing system apps, there are some apps that are needed or that will cause problems if removed.
Titanium Backup is one of my favorite apps. You need the pro version to freeze apps or backup system apps, but you can uninstall system apps with the free version - just enable Chuck Norris mode in the app's settings.
And just so you know, there are roms that are very close to stock but have some of the unnecessary apps removed and include neat extra features. You can always nandroid backup and try one out. If you don't like it just nandroid restore and everything will be as it was when you did your backup... like you never flashed anything.

Nope, not joking :]
And I don't run Sense or keep up with the current roms, but take a look through the development section and read the first post/descriptions of any that interest you. When you find one that you like just follow the download link in the thread and put it on the root of your SD card. Make a nandroid backup and backup whatever apps and data you want to keep with Titanium Backup. If you want to save your texts use SMS Backup & Restore or a similar app. Wipe thoroughly and flash. There are guides on flashing roms, check those out if you need further instruction.
Read everything you can and be sure that you understand what you're doing before you do it... this is just advice that I give everyone. Good luck, and if you need anything else we're here to help.

I dropped and broke my epic today. The sprint dude said I could pay 100 for insurance to replace it, or use my premier early discount $200 since premier ends this month.
Anyway, I ran SRF 1.2 and ACS ICS 5.5.
What do you guys recommend for roms on this phone? I forgot how to attain root and recovery.
Just fyi I will be using the go series (launcher, sms, contacts, dialer).
One last thing, what is the best way to transfer everything to my new phone?

I get it that its q & a but your questions are all in the wiki and to me we all need to do a like better jib of reading up on things which saves on the off the wall threads but OK I will spoon feed ya... try UnNamed its a nice rom and of course Calks is always a great choice. There is a CM rom in development as well. Now if you like odex or barebone roms the forum has a couple with nice ICS themes. Now to root there are a few methods but most say us sfhubs method which is pretty easy.

I then went about getting Clockwork Mod Recovery by way of Rom Manager. Easiest thing to do. I will be installing Calkulin's rom first.
I'm still tripping about adding all of my data from my first Epic. I don't get it since we are talking about two different SD cards. =/

I had to use this to install clockwork mod instead:

Ok, yes, Amon is more reliable on everything. Why? Idk, but it is.
Yes, some Devs ROMs have to have Amon to install correctly. Why? Idk, dont care. If the Devs say it is better, install it and enjoy.

The answer is up at the top where it says Search This Forum. This question has been asked and answered a million times on here.
CWM is great; on other phones. On the EVO, not so good. Doesn't wipe properly, is know to have problems restoring back-ups. Those are just the surface issues.
Plain and simple. If you have an evo, you use amon. Its like rule #1 haha. All of the CWM recovery versions I have used either A.didn't wipe correctly or B. Couldn't flash what I needed because it only supports edify scripting in zips and doesn't support amend (older but still kinda popular)
