It just won't root....I've tried the old version and newest version of z4root and nothing ...I dine have a PC atm so any solutions using a PC is not an option!
..plaza help.
Z4root was patched in 2.2.2 (EC05). You're going to have to use a pc, whether it's a friends or even one in a library.
think they'll ever update it to work with 2.2.2?
No. The exploit z4root used was patched so it would have to be a whole new root method which doesn't make sense to search for when froyo is outdated.

So I justed rooted my phone and the first thing I wanted to try is the Wireless Tether app. It seems that I'm able to get my laptop connected to the wireless but no internet connection. Looks like I might need the Netfilter-enabled kernel to make this work. If so anyone of you know how to get this enabled or install? I know it will work with a custom ROM but I like the stock Sense ROM and I'm still waiting on the official Fresh 3.2 release. So in the mean time it would be great to get it to work on a stock rooted 2.2 ROM.

Install this and you should be good to go.
You are awesome, that apk did the trick. Uninstall the one I install from the market and install this one worked. Thanks a lot for you help.
Glad to help
Hi, I am Wondering what you mean by Stock Rooted 2.2 Rom. I have one of the First released Evo's. I have done a number of things to it. Right Now I am Running 1.47 with Full root (Unrevoked 4 ever s-off) I have Clock work Recovery. I am trying to get to 2.2. I sounded like I would be able to just revert Recovery and Flash the OTA to 2.2 then install the newest Wireless tether. That didn't work. It appears that super user wasn't working right so I uninstalled super user and Applied the newest version from the market.
I still can't get my phone upgraded. I tried flashing a rooted 2.2 but got stuck in an Endless reboot cycle.
I am just wondering what 2.2 Rom you used. I would like to keep my phone a stock as possible with the exception of being able to run wireless tether and my other root programs (autostarts, root explorer, titanium)
I just can't figure out what I am missing
Thanks,
I'm sure he's talking about the new root method for evo's that had the official 2.2 release installed. Once you go back to 2.1 and root they have you install a rooted version of stock 2.2 build with sense.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
THANKS!!!!!
You made me look in a Different Direction. I was able to Apply the Sprint OTA update Using Clockwork and before rebooting Apply the 22root.zip people have been using to root on the 2.2 phones to Upgrade (No Data Loss) my phone a completly stock Sprint Software with 2.2 rooted.
Just wanted to say thanks for posting the .apk! I was having the exact same problem as the OP, and this fixed it for me too! I wonder what's different about this apk vs. the one in the market?

It is a rebuild that they are testing for froyo. The one in the market is for eclair.
You can get all the experimental versions and information and updates here http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
As long as i install the file, it works awesome.
Do u install on phone or comp and how do u do it I used unrevoked 3.32 to root but wifi-teather needs netfilter enabled kernel what do I do?
Hi, i'm a new android user with a sgs 2.2.1
i want to root my phone, anybody have easy step bey step directions???
First, welcome to the forum!
Second, i strongly advise doing some resesarch and read the guides/wiki that you'll find on the forum.
Then do a forum search for 'superoneclick' and 'rom manager', read the threads and if you are still unsure of anything post back here with your queries.
Thanks!! i'll look in to it.
me too. I have a samsung galaxy s with 2.2.1 stock. Any method of rooting that uses the update.zip seems to fail due to signature verification failure. RyanZAs z4root doesnt work either. Ive tried one click root as well.
Does ANYBODY have a working method to root a galaxy s running 2.2.1 ?
PLEASE im desperate here!
Thanks in advance
witblitz
P.S I dont want to flash roms or kernels or anything. I simply want to root the device and install ryanza's OCLF app to fix the lag. I want to keep my apps etc..

thansk chengywsc but doesn't look like that is written for the galaxy
So, were you able to root? (I have the same exact problem)
Replying to myself - I tried SuperOneClick and it worked flawlessly.
Feb 27th 2011 SuperOneClick v1.7 worked
Feb 27th 2011 SuperOneClick v1.7 worked perfectly on my Samsung Vibrant which was just re-rom'd by T-Mobile two days ago to Froyo 2.2. Rooting was disabled and I stumbled on SuperOneClick, tried it and with one click my phone was rooted. Perfect. couldn't be better. I did un-mount my removable sd card as instructed before the click. http://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
i rooted my captivate using galaxy one click, not sure if its the same as super one click? and which model of galaxy s do you have with stock 2.2 rom? not captivate is it?
hi,
I've tried the approach mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9456771#post9456771 and the z4root on my motorola defy they don't work. is there any change in firmware compared to the phones outside India.
barry
Have you tried SuperOneClick?
try super one click..it worked for me....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913709 (superoneclick)
Simple, Google z4root.
Place it in your memory card.
Install, and run. Then permanent root. And you should be rooted and well off.
Or you could try superoneclick 2.1
I have a motorola defy with android 2.1 eclair(2.1-update1). and motoblur version 2.21.0.MB525.Retail.en.GB. and its been a while since the 2.2 update is out. bt when i goto system updates in the settings menu and search for updates, i am told that no update is available. i wanna know y. and i dont know any other way to update my device. kindly show me how to update.
Another thing is that i thought of rooting my device but i didnt find any benefits for me to root.
I wanna know that if i root my device. will i loose motoblur? because i really like it. and if rooting can delete motoblur. if i unroot it, will i get motoblur back?
i am really lookin forward for help.
my cousin has a t-mobile version and he has successfully updated his device. and its faster and smoother than mine. so i really need help.
thanks
OTA update availability is dependent on your carrier, check the moto website for your region instead.
Root just enhances rights but won't delete motoblur or anything. If don't see a need to root, you don't need to root naturally.
CM7 still very smooth with a
cm7 is what and whys is it cool?
@abc_universal. thanks. i think i vl root tell me any easier way to root
CM7 is a custom rom that can be run on the Defy, it is very fast, and has a new feel. Look it up on youtube!
Root your device using SuperOneClick. Much easier.
if you feel there is no need to root, and happy with your ROM, then why root? no need to root just because the world roots their phone. if you feel that you need to maximise your phone potential, rooting is the way to go, but you gotta be more hardworking and learn up more about rooting and stuffs before doing it
cm7 is snappy but there isnt any motoblur. so no contacts frm facebook. no facebook integration well i thnk i'll root first.
can someone tell me where to find superoneclick?

yes, CM7 is far better than motoblur crap.
and it's gingerbread already.
do i need to root if want to install that cm7?
and where can i download the latest cm7?
first im sorry to post here, tried to create a new thread but it wouldnt let me cause im a "new user"
Hello everyone.......
I know there are many posts on this topic .. I've been reading whole night last night but I couldn't find the answer... tried so many things - Z4root, super 1 click root and etc. but I can't get my phone to root. In z4root it just goes back to home screen some time after I start the program and the phone is not rooted. In Superoneclick it says Failed at the end after being unable to push the busybox or whatever its name was.. I just updated my phone about a week or so ago cause I thought 22 is out.. instead I got this lazy update for 21 which now I see could be the reason the phone can't root. I should've rooted it earlier anyway here are my specs:
Sys Version Moto Version 2 51 1 MBM525 Retail en CEE
Firmware Version 2 1 update1
APflex Version GAS ASIA USAJORDANRTCEE P031
Anyone can offer a way to root that is reversible? I don't wanna root If I'm gonna be unable to unroot it later. It probably won't have problems with the root and after (when i make a backup) but my phone is only 6 months old and I have 1.5 yrs left warranty.. and I'm like 99% sure that if they see the phone is rooted they're gonna void my warranty. Again sorry for the duplicate thread but again I read so many threads and I couldn't find a way to root it.. also if you wanna know the reason I decided to root - ad-hoc. I just got a wireless adapter and realized android doesn't work with ad-hoc but then I saw that there is a fix.. still this fix requires rooted phone. ANd that's it
Well.. the easiest method is to update to 2.2 and then root with SuperOneClick. SHould work and is reversible. Plus, the 2.2 Update is getting rolled out anyway.
If you don't wanna update, you might want to give a full wipe a try.
I wanna update it's just that the 2.2 is not out yet for my phone. Still I tried with factory reset and still can't root.. I guess it's this update. I hope it's gonna be able to root at 2.2 update.. cause I don't wanna flash non-factory ROMs, just wanted to get root privileges.
Well.. it is available for your phone. You have a Defy.
For me, at last a fresh .sbf flash with RSD Lite solves every problem. But it is on your behalf, if you wanna flash a rom yourself or not.
Thing is I don't want to flash it I want a stock regular rom update from Motorola :/

Me too bt 2.2 is only available for t mobile.
I have a Tmo Defy also and updated to the stock 2.2...
I personally rooted using GingerBreak.apk which was very easy to do and from there i downloaded Root Explorer and weeded out alot of the MotoBlur crap that was slowing down the phone...
Then i downloaded Milestone Overclock from the market and SetCPU and overclocked it to be running as a 1GHZ speed and after getting rid of the MotoBlur crap im easily getting 35 hours of battery life on one charge and it is sooo much quicker to respond to everything..
My answer to why root the phone is to make it the phone that it should be without the drag of all the other junk..
But thats just my opinion..
hello,
Anybody help me...how to root motorola defy easily??i shud also be able to unroot it to send it back to warrenty...suggest me a simple app for this...like universal androot(universal androot does not support defy)...also what are temporary and permanent rooting??
You can root/unroot your device easily using SuperOneClick.
I've never heard about temporany/permanent root, but ours can be defined as a temporary since if you wipe your data or flash a sbf ( without any changes ) root won't be there.
Temporary root is lost at reboot, so is useful to delete a apk from system or edit a file.
Root either using superoneclick or z4root. Google 'em.
Z4root didn't work on my defy, but it might work for you.
z4root work on 2.1, but not on 2.2.2. SuperOneClick v.1.9.1 did root my 2.2.2, but failed on "Not Market ...". v. 1.9.5 worked on "Not Market..."
