[Q] Set Animation When Charging While Off - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to set-up an animation for when the G2 is off and charging? or is that not supported?

WTF? If it's *off*, how do you think you'll be able to see the animations? The device needs to be powered on for the display to work, the processor to run the animation, etc.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

You can't. The image to that animation is stored in the factory recovery and since we flashed CWM over it that animation is no longer there.
Everytime we plug our phone's in to charge while it is OFF, the phone will call for the image and take us straight to CWM.
Alternatively, you can head into the dev forum and flash the CWM that was released by the dev (or people?) from the mex rom which allows you to charge the phone off without turning CWM on, but, as far as a custom image for charging while off, its not possible/done yet.

If you flash the latest recovery via ROM manager issue with the phone booting in CWM when off has been fixed

with the Samsung and "Droids" they have a charging animation when off.

It is possible and will eventually be added into cwm. Its just not top priority right now.
I bet someone from the dev community will work it out before koush does.
I would like this with an option to turn it off, perhaps by pressing the menu button...like making the txt dissapear while in recovery.

[Q] Bricked htc desire

Hi all,
I'll give a quick outline here then go into more detail below if you need it. i've tried things suggested in the other bricked htc threads but none seem to work.
I've basically follwed the root guide at droiden, made a gold card and rooted my htc desire phone which went ok. problem was i then installed the suggested rom in the tutorial which was for an amoled screen but i 've got an slcd screen (i'm thick).
The upshot is my htc desire will only start up sometimes and when it does just goes to a loading screen with a bright colourful x then switches off. holding volume down and power or back and power doesn't bring up the boot menu or fast boot. i've tried to flash from one of the ruu.exe files but it just keeps saying my phone has less than 30% charge (it doesn't) and quits the ruu. Is there any way to recover my phone via another method? I've got the coldcard used to root the phone.
Many thanks
Detailed description
i've basically followed the guide to root here at droiden
and installed the rom here de frost rom it suggests.
rooted fine then i flashed the rom (the de_frost one suggested in the tutorial) - got stuck on a colourful X screen and now won't turn on. it'll only turn on if i connect to a pc and open unrevoked but then it just boots to the colourful x screen until it goes off and then i'm back to the begining.
going off that other thread it sounds like i've used the amoled rom when i've not got an amoled screen.
to make matters worse i've followed these two steps here in other threads on here which suggested a new ota or ruu. ota wais a broken link and with ruu.exe i get an error saying my battery is below 30% (it's not) and so it won't go any further.
are there any other options available to me to restore my phone bearing in mind that volume down and power doesn't bring up the boot screen (just white htc screen then colourful X screen) so i can't even do a hard reset that way. Not bothered about wiping the phone's memory just want to get it back so i can start from scratch with the right rom. i have the gold card used to root the phone.
any help appreciated - thanks.

Needs to be a gold card if your phone is network branded
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
ok i did it and it worked first time - it let me get to the boot screen but then after it rebooted it just won't switch on at all now.
any ideas?
Did you let it run till the phone booted?
Take the batt out for a min and pop back in and try. And also make sure you got a good charge
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
yeah it said it was rebooting but then never came back on. i'll give it a good charge and try again.
right it will now turn on everytime but won't go to the boot screen. Volume down power and back power just start it up and it sticks on the loading screen with the x for hours.

i'm not too sure. i bought the desire from ebay. it's an orange branded htc about 2/3 months old. i followed the root guide here (can't post full links as i'm a new member- just stick a www dot infront of)

for some reason i left the room and came back and it's working.
i've no idea what has happened.
it's completely debranded and rooted with a basic rom.
can someone advise me of a good stable rom which will work with a slcd screen?
many thanks

hmmm. can't download anything from the android marketplace. just says download unsuccessful.
for any who has the same problem - think it was a schoolboy error. when it sticks on the x screen the options must be in the background. press volume down then press power and it boots.

Can not get into recovery please help.

Ok I am running the latest Skyraider sense rom. I notice my battery draining very rapidly today so I was going to do a hard reboot.
Pulled my battery and when my phone came back on everything was looking wierd, my wallpaper had changed, sense was on my homescreen, (I use launcher pro) and my homescreen was cluttered with a bunch of camera icons and some other stuff. So I figured it was a glitch and pulled my battery again and booted up. Same thing. Plus every app I try and launch force closes on me.
So I know I have some Nandroid backups on my sd card so I figure I'll just load one of them up and be good to go.
I get into hboot, and as you know my choices are:
Fastboot
Recovery
clear storage
simlock
factory reset
I click on recovery and it doesn't load up clockwork mod recovery, but now my choices are
bootloader
reboot
reboot bootloader
power down
WTF? Where do I go from here? Any help will be much appreciated!
Have you tried booting into recovery directly by powering the phone and holding volume up?

If you use the unrevoked tool you can just choose a custom image from the file menu before plugging in your phone. In other words, point to the appropriate image for your screen type and the rest of the process is the same.

Sure...the screenshot is attached. As you can see, "Disable Security on Phone" is checked (which turns S-OFF). When you click "Custom Recovery..." (in the screenshot), it brings up a file dialog. Just navigate to your "recovery.img" and hit okay. I forgot to mention that you need to unzip the PB31IMG.zip so that you can see "recovery.img". I hope I clarified. Let me know how it goes (it took me about 10 minutes once it starts). I am running all of this in Linux (Ubuntu 10.04), so there may be some tweaking you have to do with USB drivers and uninstalling HTC Sync (IIRC, from what I've read if you're running Windows), but it sounds like you're past that.

[Q] CM7 RC2.0 - Phone boots up, but splash+boot animation never display

Hi. I've searched many forums - XDA, cyanogenmod, but no one seems to have this problem, and I'm not sure if it's a software problem or a hardware problem. Here's the problem...
Up until a while ago, my CM7 RC2 DZ has been fine, but because I don't boot my phone all the time, I don't remember when it started happening (but it must have started after RC2 was released). Upon booting up the phone - whether it was reboot, power on from off state, or anything, the phone first VIRBATES. normally, after that I'm presented with a WHITE SCREEN with green HTC in the middle, shortly following that, the Cyanogenmod Boot Animation. Now however, i don't see that screen anymore, nor do I see the boot animation. But, the phone still boots into the system normally, albeit having a issue with the display still not activating (the button's lights go on, but the screen is off. something I've read about, and still can't fix). This didn't bug me too much, but now that I"m trying to flash CM7 stable, I realize it's a problem - I can't boot into HBOOT or Recovery, because I don't SEE anything... it's just all black after I reboot. Can't boot into HBOOT or RECOVERY to do any troubleshooting or flashing new firmwares(so i can't navigate because there's no control to "Unlock" or "wake" the screen up in HBOOT or RECOVERY mode). All I see is that the display doesn't even have a backlight - it's almost as if the phone is "off" because there's no indication that it's on.
Somebody please help me =( my phone is still functional and usable... so long as I don't try to access RECOVERY or HBOOT.
So what you are saying that when you Hold volume down + power the hboot doesn't show up?
Sent from my HTC Desire Z/G2 Using XDA Premium App
correct. The phone does it's boot up "vibrate". the screen does not flicker, does not light up, nothing happens. So i can't boot into HBOOT, RECOVERY, i CAN boot into the phone itself (I know it's booted because my buttons light up). But I no longer am presented with any sort of startup screen ( or any screen for that matter )... making it impossible to access any sort of backup utility, etc ...

So when I go to Clockwork Recovery, and I try to ask it to boot into RECOVERY, it'll reboot, vibrate, and... that's it lol
It goes without saying that I cannot perform a hard factory reset, ... that requires me to get into HBOOT.

adb still can detect my device. I just punched this into my Mac Terminal:
$ adb devices
List of devices attached
HT0ARRV02688 device
I don't quite remember the name for it... but was it called Z Combined Root? Had to Temp ROot and then Perm Root using a special file with filename wpthis-Z.ko (this is the only file I remember that was special esp for the DZ)
As for flashing stock, I don't actually know how to do that via adb...

That's good that adb can see it because people with some type of issue don't have eng-hboot and the can't flash the stock rom, well that what's I've been reading. Also by any chance you used visionary to get temp root? If not I think you used the rage method.

I have..dropped my phone I suppose, but it didn't affect the display when I'm actually using the phone... that's the weird part. If the display gave out, I would assume I wouldn't be able to use the phone at all. There's no physical damage to the exterior of my phone at all... it was a pretty light drop, but I didn't see where it landed on the phone...

bump. i still need help on this... it won't turn on. miraculously, the boot worked ONCE. Coincidentally it was the time I called in to Bell Customer Service/Technical Support. Felt really stupid when it ONLY worked when I was on the phone with the technician and he told me to VOL DOWN + POWER. it worked when He was on the phone with me =_=... therein after I flashed Cyanogenmod 7 Stable, and I have resumed having these problems once again. So I can at least confirm it's not only on RC2 - it's on CM 7 as well. I'm starting to think it isn't the software, but probably a corrupted bootloader.
If you want to be directed to the ClockworkMod menu but can't navigate to it use ROM manager or Quickboot plus to get there. You might to need a ROM on your sdcard or have one installed. The reason for your boot trouble is a file might corrupted in the folder that contains your boot animation. This might not be fixed by flashing a new ROM but its worth a try. Use third party apps like ROM Manager and Quicknoot plus to open up your ClockMod Recovery Menu if necessary to install a new ROM. Hope I helped

thanks, but I"ve already tried that. Because i cannot access clockwordmod, i've been using ROm manager ever since, and it's still difficult to manage because I kind of have to trust that the phone does what it's doing when i tell it to backup or flash something... in the end, it still ends up having to restart to do the flashing, but like I said I can't see the screen to actually know if stuff is actually getting done. I want to know how I can reflash the boot animation, because i'm also quite positive it's a problem with the boot but not the firmware..

[Q] Cannot connect One x to PC

Hey all!
I'm a NOOB!...
I have rooted my phone, following some video on YouTube.. All went fine, then a friend told me to install Cmod 9.. Which would not allow me to boot into recovery. Anyway he did something to enable recovery, which has now left my phone in a state where I cannot connect to the computer.. The phone also has nothing on it to recover to, as it was wiped (silly I know). My question is, is there anyway to force connect to my pc, so I can upload a new ROM or am I completely stranded?
I know there are some pros out there and I would love to hear from you

Thanks a lot my friend!
So for anyone else experiencing this problem
First of all I had no back up, I erased everything off of my phone and when physically connected to the pc, my device was not shown..(Unless I left it at the HTC logo, but only here my device would show up in faded grey in 'My Computer', when selected it would say 'device not ready!'
Once following the steps kindly provided above by Jonas2295 (Thank you)
Flash your recovery.
Boot into the boot loader by holding power + volume down button, until it resets into the boot menu.
Select recovery, navigate your way to ..... + Mount (I cannot remember, you will find it though)
Mount USB Storage
I found that my phone would only show up as a valid storage device on my PC when staying in that setting.. So do no navigate away from the 'mount USB Storage' setting once you have enabled it! Until you have transferred your new ROM on board.
I first used Coredroid, but that kept getting stuck at the beats logo. So I tried 'arhd' (Android Revolution HD)..
Once installing it did not look promising, as it staying at the HTC logo for about 5 minutes, then it came into play.
I now have a working HTC again
So thanks to again to Jonas2295 and hopefully by me asking this question, maybe more silly people like me can fix their HTC's
Good Luck!
You are welcome
Glad I could help you out if this situation!
Enjoy your recovered one x.
