I posted this in the Official Radio Thread over in the dev section, but I don't want to steer that discussion off topic. Here's the gist:
I rooted my stock 2.2 Inc yesterday with Unrevoked 3.2, everything worked fine. I then loaded the 2.15.00.09.01 radio linked here, again, worked great. This morning I decided I was going to remove some bloatware (CityID, Skype, etc), so turned off the phone so I could boot into recovery. Went into HBoot, but realized I still had the PB31IMG.zip file from the radio update on my SD card. The HBoot was waiting at a "Do you want to update?" prompt, so I pulled the battery. That's when things turned to crap. I haven't been able to boot past the white logo screen since then. I can still boot into HBoot, but everything I select from there results in the same logo screen lockup.
UndergroundWire suggested:
Boot into Hboot. When it asks you if you want to apply the update, select NO (down volume I believe). Go Into recovery. Reboot Phone.
BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO APPLY THE UPDATE AGAIN.
It happened to me before. I panicked and did the same thing like you before. It seems the phone had a hiccup and the only way to boot it normal is to go into hboot --> Recovery --> Reboot.
As long as you see any kind of screen, it's not bricked. Again be very careful not to apply the update twice.

Which I tried. I went into HBoot, selected No when asked if I want to update, then No when asked if I want to reboot. I then select Recovery, but I get the same results. White logo screen and nothing more. I remembered to press the power button to try to get into recover, did so at various stages, but no success.
So at this point, I'm dead in the water. Does anyone else have any suggestions? It seems that I can get into HBoot, but any option I select ends up hanging on the logo screen. Also, can anyone tell me, If I'm s-off, can I simply put the older radio's PB31IMG.zip on the sd card and apply it (to downgrade from this 2.15.00.09 radio), or do I need to do some prep work first?
Thank you.
Doc
Delete that radio from your SD . Do you have root? If you do restore your nandroid backup. If you did not look around and find a stock 31 to flash are you s off whats your software version?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Don't jack with the radio anymore find a stock image to run from hboot and run the update . Just make sure the image is compatible with your radio version.

So I downloaded the 2.15.00.07 radio from the previous thread, installed it, and got the phone back!
Thanks a lot to everyone who helped me along, big sigh of relief ;-)
Incidentally, Yes, I was s-off with Froyo. And I couldn't do a nandroid restore because it would never boot far enough to get to that menu.
Thanks again!
Doc
Glad you got it fixed. Be super careful with radios! Congratulations.

If there's a next time, don't panic and pull the battery again.
Just an FYI, all the radios in that thread are full images not incrementals. Flashing the same radio twice will not brick the device. That was only true for a leaked update a while back.

Hi. I've searched many forums - XDA, cyanogenmod, but no one seems to have this problem, and I'm not sure if it's a software problem or a hardware problem. Here's the problem...
Up until a while ago, my CM7 RC2 DZ has been fine, but because I don't boot my phone all the time, I don't remember when it started happening (but it must have started after RC2 was released). Upon booting up the phone - whether it was reboot, power on from off state, or anything, the phone first VIRBATES. normally, after that I'm presented with a WHITE SCREEN with green HTC in the middle, shortly following that, the Cyanogenmod Boot Animation. Now however, i don't see that screen anymore, nor do I see the boot animation. But, the phone still boots into the system normally, albeit having a issue with the display still not activating (the button's lights go on, but the screen is off. something I've read about, and still can't fix). This didn't bug me too much, but now that I"m trying to flash CM7 stable, I realize it's a problem - I can't boot into HBOOT or Recovery, because I don't SEE anything... it's just all black after I reboot. Can't boot into HBOOT or RECOVERY to do any troubleshooting or flashing new firmwares(so i can't navigate because there's no control to "Unlock" or "wake" the screen up in HBOOT or RECOVERY mode). All I see is that the display doesn't even have a backlight - it's almost as if the phone is "off" because there's no indication that it's on.
Somebody please help me =( my phone is still functional and usable... so long as I don't try to access RECOVERY or HBOOT.
So what you are saying that when you Hold volume down + power the hboot doesn't show up?
Sent from my HTC Desire Z/G2 Using XDA Premium App
correct. The phone does it's boot up "vibrate". the screen does not flicker, does not light up, nothing happens. So i can't boot into HBOOT, RECOVERY, i CAN boot into the phone itself (I know it's booted because my buttons light up). But I no longer am presented with any sort of startup screen ( or any screen for that matter )... making it impossible to access any sort of backup utility, etc ...

That's not good. So if you go to rom manger and click on reboot to recovery you just get a black screen? Also do you have eng-hboot?

luckily, I wrote down all my phone's information IN CASE something happened...
VISION PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT - 0.84.2000 (PC1012000)
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
eMMC-boot
KERNAL VERSION
2.6.32.28
baseban
12.28b.60.140eU
this is my configuration.
So when I go to Clockwork Recovery, and I try to ask it to boot into RECOVERY, it'll reboot, vibrate, and... that's it lol
It goes without saying that I cannot perform a hard factory reset, ... that requires me to get into HBOOT.

Hmm... I wonder if the hboot file got messed up somehow. You have eng-hboot. Do you know how to use ADB by any chance? I was asking if you had the eng-hboot because you need it for adb. I just want to see if adb can find your device because that would be helpful

Yea I would try to see if Adb can see your phone so you can flash the stock rom and if you can do that you would have stock hboot again. Anyways what method of prem rooting did you do?

adb still can detect my device. I just punched this into my Mac Terminal:
$ adb devices
List of devices attached
HT0ARRV02688 device
I don't quite remember the name for it... but was it called Z Combined Root? Had to Temp ROot and then Perm Root using a special file with filename wpthis-Z.ko (this is the only file I remember that was special esp for the DZ)
As for flashing stock, I don't actually know how to do that via adb...

That's good that adb can see it because people with some type of issue don't have eng-hboot and the can't flash the stock rom, well that what's I've been reading. Also by any chance you used visionary to get temp root? If not I think you used the rage method.
Also am not really good using Adb. Sombody will sure come to help you with this part. Anyways let hope we can fix this issue.

Or maybe I missread?

I have..dropped my phone I suppose, but it didn't affect the display when I'm actually using the phone... that's the weird part. If the display gave out, I would assume I wouldn't be able to use the phone at all. There's no physical damage to the exterior of my phone at all... it was a pretty light drop, but I didn't see where it landed on the phone...

bump. i still need help on this... it won't turn on. miraculously, the boot worked ONCE. Coincidentally it was the time I called in to Bell Customer Service/Technical Support. Felt really stupid when it ONLY worked when I was on the phone with the technician and he told me to VOL DOWN + POWER. it worked when He was on the phone with me =_=... therein after I flashed Cyanogenmod 7 Stable, and I have resumed having these problems once again. So I can at least confirm it's not only on RC2 - it's on CM 7 as well. I'm starting to think it isn't the software, but probably a corrupted bootloader.
If you want to be directed to the ClockworkMod menu but can't navigate to it use ROM manager or Quickboot plus to get there. You might to need a ROM on your sdcard or have one installed. The reason for your boot trouble is a file might corrupted in the folder that contains your boot animation. This might not be fixed by flashing a new ROM but its worth a try. Use third party apps like ROM Manager and Quicknoot plus to open up your ClockMod Recovery Menu if necessary to install a new ROM. Hope I helped

thanks, but I"ve already tried that. Because i cannot access clockwordmod, i've been using ROm manager ever since, and it's still difficult to manage because I kind of have to trust that the phone does what it's doing when i tell it to backup or flash something... in the end, it still ends up having to restart to do the flashing, but like I said I can't see the screen to actually know if stuff is actually getting done. I want to know how I can reflash the boot animation, because i'm also quite positive it's a problem with the boot but not the firmware..
my phone(tmo g2,rooted running extrahotsauce rom) is flashing the green and orange lights now that its charging...the battery was fine and i was doing a backup using clockword mod recovery and once that occured i rebooted, then rebooted again into recovery and from then on the phone hasn't turned back on. i put it on charge at first and no light, left it on for a bit and now there's green and orange led lights blinking continuosly, any one know the cause? and more important, the solution? any help would be much appreciated, thanks
someone posted in the evo 4g forums saying the phone was overheating? doubt that was the issue. but now that it isn't working,i am hoping it is
Turned on but kept shutting down on its own, somehow got it into clockwork mod recovery, wiped data and cache(after backing it up), wanted to install the mexdroid rom and the phone shut off again at the end of the wipe, now it just turns on at the htc screen.
when i hold volume+power and get to the boot screen,it wont let me scroll up and down using volume, instead it automatically just tries to update.
stuck at htc screen, just wanna try to restore my phone, any help would be great. thanks and sorry for being such a damn noob
Do you have a pc10img on your sd card? If so, you need to get that off of there to get into recovery. Also, it sounds like something is seriously wrong with the battery and you should replace it.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
found it,its a zip file right? it wont let me delete it though,is there a certain way to do it?
i have a spare battery, just cant seem to locate it at the moment, might need to buy one if i can't find it soon
nvmm figured it out, lets try it
OMG you are the greatest, its working so far...do i need to put the pc10img back on the sd card in order to install a rom or no?well it wouldn't get to the recovery screen with it on the sd card, sorry i need to get some sleep
NVM,i left pc10img off of the sd card installed the rom,but it wouldn't start, just stayed at the htc screen. I put that file back on the sdcard and it's still just stuck at the white htc screen, know what the issue might be? i have a custom boot animation in there, would that matter?
when i get to the boot screen,it says, s-on at the top,is that why?
If you're s-on then you're not rooted or at least truly rooted, like if you did a temp root with visionary. I would suggest finding the tmo post ota ROM in the development section dated from December, it'll be a PC10IMG, and rooting that with gfree from the wiki. When you have done all that, install ROM Manager from the Market. When you open the app click "Flash Recovery"and you'll be ableto install ROM's from ClockworkMod recovery.
I apologize if you already know some of this stuff, but you sound a bit confused. Hope this helps.

no need to apologize, you're only helping. i told my friend about the issue, and he reccomended a thread on xda that explains how to turn s-off(and root/unroot). it had been rooted, but yeah like you said it was temp rooted using visionary. ill try these methods and post results. thanks alot
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890827&highlight=[Guide]+How+to+Root
so that's the link he sent to me, i was skeptical but still went through with it and yet it still says s-on...i need a guide to show me how to fix just that.
i've never used gfree or wiki, nor do i know how or what of them. is there a thread you can direct me to? ill look for it myself but i think if you were to find it,you'd be able to direct me to the right one since im sure there are multiple threads and you seem to know what's happening and what you're doing
ok so i've tried 5 different methods and nothing seems to result with s-off for me. do i need to unroot and reroot?
i know this thread is old but i just got a referb g2 for my wife and it had this same problem. i found this somewhere else and it actually worked:
try taking out the battery and unplug the charger. then press and hold the power button for roughly a min. Then put the battery back in and press the power button. It should work. it worked for me.
i had tried holding the power button for almost a minute with the battery still in with no luck. doing it this way with the battery out worked though.
i have absolutely gone thru every post about this and couldnt find an answer
this is what happened
i was messing with "rom toolbox" app and installed a boot animation which kept going in a loop, i waited like an hour and got tired so i booted in hboot menu and and just started wiping every thing "format boot" wiped everything "data" "cache" then i read somewhere on xda to install PB31IMG.zip from sd card and i waited pressed reboot and now it wont turn on. other thread/posts talk about unrooting it but how can i do that when i cant get into the hboot/recovery menu. please point me in the right direction if this is fixed already
i have and htc incredible 2.2 rooted s-off led light turns on and and the buttons turn on, sometimes it vibrates 1 or 5 times
please help i just want my phone back, im tired of using my blackberry
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110865
try that and get back to us
Though the 5 Vibrate never happened to me, I hope this can be of some assistance http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110865
actually ive already read it and well i cant seem to use it because it requires my phone to turn on. and on the link one of the process is to flash that PB31IMG.zip file which i have already done. Now im trying to do that again but by loading recovery using adb but im stuck there any help
Just to make sure, the battery has a charge right? Have you tried to do everything with the phone plugged in? Also, try pulling the battery just in case it needs a hard reset or something, put it back in, then hold down the volume - and the power button and see if you can get into hboot.
That's what I would do.
yeah when i connect to the wall charger the led light turns on and when i connect to the computer it shows the both removable disk (internal memory & sd card) but i cant access them cause i would still have to mount it as a disk drive
Just a thought, can you get another SD Card, load a PB31IMG.zip on it, make sure it's FAT32 (use a card reader or something) and reboot?

Wait, when you plug it into the computer - the computer shows it as a disk drive? Doesn't that mean that the phone is actually on?
Hold up...
First: The PB31IMG.zip file would have been used for a splash screen, not a boot animation. Correct? Second: That is just a generic file name so that the bootloader will read the file, did you know what was actually in that file? I ask because you could have had something like a radio trying to update under the PB31IMG.zip file, and as far as I understand it that's a pretty good way to brick a phone with the quickness
You are not bricked. You most likely installed an old stock image for 2.1 that does not contain drivers for your SLCD screen. Easiest way to fix this is to download the newest RUU and use that utility. Should have you back up and running in no time. If that doesn't work, you can do it through the PB31IMG method too, but it's a pain in the ass.
I'm curious to see if that worked, update when you can please

Awesome, really glad to hear that you don't just have a very expensive paper-weight. And don't fear rom toolbox, I use it for everything that it does besides the rom manager part of it and it's an great all-in-one tool. If you learned anything it's that boot animations are placed in your system files and splash screens are changed by updating in hboot with the PB31IMG.zip file name, just check and double check before you do stuff like that. You learned the hard way, but now you know. Have fun with your new(old) phone
---------- Post added at 07:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:11 PM ----------
What rom are you running anyway, depending on the rom you will have a different file path to get to where your bootanimation.zip should be placed. Sense roms are usually under data/local, and cyanogenmod is under system/media. Just look until you find the file name bootanimation.zip, change that file to bootanimation.bak and leave it in the folder where you found it. Then copy/move your new boot animation to the folder where you found the boot animation that you changed from .zip to .bak, reboot and you should be good to go. The reason for leaving the old boot animation in there is a just in case sort of thing, like if something goes weird with the new boot animation you can just change the extension from .bak back to .zip. Hope that helps (or at least makes sense, ha)

when you go into "about phone" what is your software version?
Your kernel has nothing to do with what phone your phone is detected as by Facebook.
I know. It looks like a lengthy read. But all the information you could possibly need I've provided. Please let me know what you think. Also, I've done some searchign around but none of the scenarios I found were a result to flash back to stock sprint RUU.
The error reads as follows: "Attention. A network error has occurred. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen."
What actually happens: Anytime I open Marketplace, Facebook app, send a message through KakaoTalk or GroupMe, pretty much anything that uses the 3G, 4G data, it doesn't work. The message only comes up when I try to use the marketplace app. All other apps just say there was a connection error, connecting to the server, etc.
When I hit "Retry" it goes right back to the same dialog pop up, as if it doesnt even re"try". The top notification bar goes from 3G and then disappears, then goes from 3G and just continually disappears. It doesnt matter if I have 4G on or WiFi, it will just goes back to 3G when attempting to gain data, and then disappears and the error happens.
My Timeline of events: I first had been running Synergy and everything was fine. Suddenly my wall charger (or any wall charger for that matter) stopped working when plugged in. The car charger still works, but no HTC wall chargers, odd. So I decided to use that insurance for good and bring it into sprint. Gotta unroot and all that jazz first though. I downloaded the "RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_release_171253.exe" and found a way to connect my phone to the PC, and finished the wizard. Mind you, before I did this, I went into recovery (while on synergy) and did a dalvik cache wipe, data/factory wipe and cache wipe, then went back into hboot and ran the wizard from there. Everything went fine, the ROM install was successful, I no longer have recovery and it was the stock sprint ROM.
Where things got fishy...: After it was running through all the constant reboots and things, I let the phone sit while I did other things. I came back to it, signed into my gmail and facebook fine, then went to marketplace. I started downloading all my purchased apps and since that was going to take some time, I let it sit again and went off.
Fishy part: I come back to he phone, and would normally just pull down notification taskbar, and hit clear all notifications, since it said a bunch of things had sucessfully installed, but I notcied it also said "System update complete." Hmmm, I didn't start any system update...did it do it automatically? It had to of. I went to check for an OTA (HTC software update) and it found "System upgrade 1.47.651.1 (30.15 MB) - FOTA update." I canceled it since I pretty sure doing an OTA update on a rooted ROM is a no-no.
So what the heck is the problem here, I never had these issues before until I went back to the stock sprint ROM. I've already updated PRL a few times, does nothing.
Should I go back and reflash it and this time make sure it doesnt do a system upgrade until I've turned S-OFF back to S-ON? Once the phone is S-ON is it safe to update OTA?
My About Phone details are a sfollows:
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 1.39.00.05.31
Kernal version: 2.6.29-a2443432
Build number: 1.32.651.6 CL171253 release-keys
Software number: 1.32.651.6
Browser version: WebKit 3.1
PRI version: 1.90_003
PRL version: 60683
Any help, advice, suggestions are welcome!!!!! Please hook me up fellas, I'm a little bogged down about the upset.
UPDATE:
Okay. Since I am an impatient person and the last resort was going to re-flash the RUU, I'm just going to do that. And then make sure there is no system update. Once that is done, I'll run the S-ON tool from somewhere, hopefully I won't need recovery for anything, aaand then we'll see where we are. If you're reading all this PLEASE reply with something, anything to let me know somewhere out there is alive! lol, please.
With phone s on and stock ruu loaded it should be fine to accept update...wow u might get froyo lol. And it might help with your data issue...idk much but I know a little.
Edit: maybe try a newer ruu that might help with the data as well. not sure how HTC updates but i think it goes one at a time instead of newest available

This should get u recovery back so u can flash the s on tool. Then run a newer ruu, there is a thread in the EVO dev section with the latest, and hopefully it will also fix your data problems

Okay, I downloaded the file, put it on SD card, unplugged it, opened hboot and it tried loading the PC36IMG file, it said wrong image or soemthing like that about 6 times and then went back to the regular screen. Although, it has ALWAYS said wrong image for me, so I'm not worried about that.
So now I just went down and hit recovery and its a no go.
OKAY! Now my phone goes straight to the black screen with a Phone on it, and a little red triable with an exclamation point inside everytime now. It used to only come up when i tried going into recovery. now it comes up everytime i load up the phone. does this mean, its bricked...
EDIT: nvm, I was able to load HBOOT thank god, but still having trouble getting the damn recovery.
Well go to amon ra thread in the EVO dev section and dl th pc36img from there...maybe u got a bad dl...
It's here: recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img - MD5Sum: c00243750cc79e4a1dd4888db175b19f

Okay, so downloaded the file "recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img", put it (recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img) on SD, turned phone off, and now powering on in HBOOT.
After its finished doing whatever it does, can i go straight to recovery, or do i need to reboot again for changes to take effect?
Well, it did the wrong image no image thing again like it always does, and then i tried going into recovery aaaand it didnt work.
Also u should read these I think:

Yyyeeaaah, about that. I forgot to rename it. *facepalm* Just did it, powering in through HBOOT AGAIN. still did the wrong image no image thing, but this time, about it actually did some progress bar thing on the right hand side. but just for a second, and then went back to saying it was the wrong image or no image.
I highlighted the entier file name "recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img" and renamed it to "PC36IMG.ZIP" and then it turned into a zip file. restarted the phone in nboot and didnt work.
Oops I posted the .img for adb sorry here is the pc36img...*facepalm*

Okay, so check it out.
I ran the "RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_rele ase_171253.exe" before and flashed that, but i remember that i had to unroot my gf's phone back in june, so i went to my downlaod list and saw that i used "RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe"
So I just did that, and the 3G data seems to be fine. [email protected] Now onward to unrooting.
Now that I have stock ROM, do I just run a S-ON tool and fix it? But I dont have custom recovery, wtf this is effing confusing...

AH HA! lol, okay cool. So when I download this, and put it on my SD and then reboot into hboot, i'll have custom recovery? and then i can run s-on with 3.70? then eventually update OTA...?
Maybe I am wrong and it won't flash recovery with a non rooted ROM but I thought would because of s-off it should... Should of flashed the s on before u ran the ruu. It's signed with HTC keys and would of been fine.

YOU DID IT! Horrayy!!!! Thank you my kind, kind kind kind sir!
I am on recovery right now. So now do i follow these instructions...
How to Unroot the HTC EVO 4G
◄●REQUIRED DOWNLOADS●►
Unrevoked S-On Tool
PC36IMG
◄●SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS●►
If you're comfortable with everything Android related(flashing, recovery, etc.) then its just 2 simple steps:
If you used Unrevoked Forever at any time, flash unrevoked-forever-son.zip from recovery until hboot shows S-ON
Flash the PC36IMG.zip from hboot
◄●DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS●►
If you need a little more guidance, follow these instructions.
◄●If you have used Unrevoked forever, start here●►
Make sure you have downloaded the files linked above. Do not extract them
Connect your phone to your computer via USB and change to "Disk Drive" by dragging down from the notification bar.
If you have NOT used Unrevoked Forever, skip to the instructions below. If you have, transfer unrevoked-forever-son.zip to the root of your sdcard. Do NOT transfer the PC36IMG yet. It'll only cause a hassle and make this take longer.
Once complete, power off the phone
reboot into the recovery by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen. Then select RECOVERY.
Depending on what recovery you're using, you need to flash a zip. Select the unrevoked-foreverson.zip that you just transferred and complete the flash.
When complete, power off the phone. Reboot into the bootloader by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen. If it says S-ON at the top, select RECOVERY and skip to step 9. If it says S-OFF, repeat steps 5-7 Until it does.
◄●If you have NEVER used Unrevoked forever, start here●►
Power off the phone and reboot into the recovery by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen. Then select RECOVERY.
Connect via USB. There is an option for this in both Amon RA and Clockwork.
Transfer the PC36IMG.zip to the root of your sdcard.
EJECT THE PHONE FROM THE COMPUTER and then turn off USB in Recovery
Power off the phone and reboot into the bootloader by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen.
It should check the PC36IMG.zip and then ask you YES/NO to apply the update. Press VOL UP for YES
Once complete, Press VOL UP to reboot.
You are now unrooted!
Have I ever used unrevoked? idk if i have! where do i start, or do i just run the s-on tool...?
Yes as long as u rooted with unrevoked and NOT REVOLUTIONARY... make sure to remove/rename the recovery pc36img on root of SD...once s on is achieved either run a ruu or the pc36img from that thread...off to kickboxing I go glad I could help...
