I seem to have an issue with my desire's camera.
Fotos are always fuzzy in the middle, when the focus is farer than 5 meters away. no matter which resolution or setup i choose. The autofocus dosn't work like it should - only the edges are correctly focused.
Please tell me that it's just a software bug... is there a chance to solve this?
Is there anything on the lens or the cover? Could be a smear or other obstruction

Thanks for the answer but no. It's clean.

my first desire had to go back and be replaced as the camera wouldn't take pictures that were in focus (even though the autofocus feature would appear to work), so I would recommend swapping this for another device
tap and hold the screen while taking a photo
Is it just me, or does the camera on the Desire really suck? Don't get me wrong, provided the subject or scene is perfectly still along with my hand, it will take really nice pictures. But if there is any movement of any kind it just blurs the images. I suspect the desire camera must have a really slow shutter speed that is causing this. If only there was some kind of adjustment for this, but i cannot see one.
I previously owned the nokia N95 8GB and the camera was far superior even on this 3 year old phone. I think the scene modes for portrait/sports/night etc helped adjust the camera very well and would have been a very useful addition to the desire IMO.
Other the the camera, the Desire is a fantastic phone. So if anyone has a workaround to help counter the blurry issue, it would be much appreciated

I agree this was the first thing I learned when playing about with the Desire and im taking pictures flawlessly now, a definate 5 Mega Pixel improvement over my old iPhone 3G (R.I.P)/iPhone 2G/G1 cameras
Hi me and my htc desire have been together for a few months now.i love her, shes been good to me,and we are deeply in love.with one exception
the camera is pure sh^t. even my old old k850i with barely no processor and no modern os took better photos,i understand its a phone..but surely someone can mod it to be better
has any one got any ideas of how to mod etc or to get a mod
its frustrating as she is the perfect phone
Why do you say that dude?Camera's fine.Stills are really good considering its sensor is a phone's 5mpx one.Don't ask too much of it and believe me,you'll start seeing it otherwise.
You do realize that k850 was a cybershot phone with xenon flash, etc... desire's camera is not the best in the market, fortunately it's good when there is a good light and a phone can get autofocus, especially face focus... then the pictures really look good.
I know the k850i was cybershot.but in fairness my wifes iphone 3g took better pics and thats bad when an iphone can beat a htc.as iphones r ****e.

I've been very pleased with the camera on the Desire. Sure, its no DSLR, but it captured this double rainbow just fine: flickr.com/photos/cylerparent/5154440847/

I have to agree that the camera is very mediocre... but i've been spoiled by my Nokia N82 which took amazingly clear pics. The desire eems to have really bad autofocus and lacks lots of detail.
if you find yourself taking more photos with your phone than your compact p&s camera. you need help.
its a phone, not a camera.
flamesuit: i had the same issue with my old iphone, the camera was sooo terrible it was pointless, so i took my p&s camera much more places. the HTC cam, however, is 10x better than the iphone.
There are some reports that removing the plastic lens cover on the back increases the quality of the pictures. Look in to that some more, it might help.
Seems like there is actually a tad bit of trolling and/or stupidity with a post or two in this thread. I have found the camera on the Desire to be excellent. If you're having poor quality pictures try bumping up the sharpness and saturation by 1. It actually makes a great deal of a difference. As for the person that said the iPhone 3 takes better pictures... just get out. lol
The camera is definitely decent but not outstanding. I still keep my N82 around as some sort of point and shoot / backup phone when I want to make better pictures. I take a snap then I send it over through Bluetooth to the Desire so I can upload it to Facebook or Twitter. Slightly better than having to pop out the memory card on a phone to load it onto a card reader or turn off your phone and slap it onto the Desire.

I agree and disagree. You don't have to remove it,just clean it very very well.If it's scratched or something,THEN you might have to remove it.But yes, looking after your lens cover does make a difference.
If you want to take pictures use a camera, not a phone.
To be fair the lens plastic could be an issue and no i have a dslr but i cant exactly carry it in my pocket.hence why i asking.the desire kicks ass this im not disputing.just tweak the camera. Waiting for gingerbread now...a long wait

I confirm a damaged lens cover seriously degrades the quality, creating a halo, a blur on photos. Easy test: take the same photo with the back cover on and off. If you see a difference, your choice to remove the lens cover. That is what I did and I am now happy again with the photos, as when the phone was new. Shame to HTC for not putting a proper glass lens cover, the only hardware fault on this phone IMO

no worries me and my desire will remain as a couple,it is the lens cover,i removed it and took a photo and just to be sure left camera in running mode and removed cover and replaced while watching, makes 100 percent difference to the sharpness and clearness, upon inspection the lens is scratched to buggery even though ive had a silicone casing on,but it doesnt cover the lens,so oobviously the test of time has got it,that means having to replace the back cover which is fine, ebay? maybe, ill try
so yeah in conclusion cameras fine, lens cover is shot lol

Well,if you know someone that makes/repairs watches you can ask if he can make a lens cover from the glass they use in watches. It doesn't get scratched and is better in any way than plastic.Other than that many people have reported that removing only the lens cover doesn't do any harm.Or you can also get a new battery cover. It's your call!
ok,
I do not know why this is going on but it seems to be software related.
I thought I was crazy so I took off the camera lens cover to test it.
I used the galaxy s3 with lens cover off and the camera was fuzzy while using. So I rebooted the phone and then the camera was sharp again.
The problem is this does not last for long the next time i use the camera it becomes fuzzy again. Sometimes the reboot does not work to get sharp again.
This makes no sense? Some one said there are camera firmware updates. where are they?
Maybe the camera is going bad?
hey guys !
My friend just bought an m5 a couple of weeks ago and he's experiencing a strange thing with the camera. The front camera is working just fine ,but the back camera is taking blurred pictures. When he focuses on something everything is sharp and good right until pic is taken and processed, the results are blurry pictures . Sometimes the camera takes normal sharp pics but the majority of the times its blurred ones, so I'm asking you guys : is it a common thing among all m5 devices or am I missing something in the camera setting ? could it be a software problem or is it more likely to be a hardware defect ?
I'd really like to have your opinions on this as I was the one to convince him to get a Sony device instead of a Samsung even though I'm a note user myself. The device is not rooted , running the latest stock Android Lollipop 5.1 .
Thanks in advance !

I find that the rear camera cannot focus beyond about 10m.
To take the best possible shot focus on something about 1m away in full daylight, if still bad, then definitely a problem.

I am observing the same thing with my Xperia M5 Dual- OK with close up shots only.
Does everyone think this is normal? Or should I be worried that I'd miss capturing important moments?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
I use Snap camera to avoid such things.
I had a similar problem. In my case the problem was that the hybrid autofocus did not work and only one of the two autofocus methods was working. The result was that roughly half of the times pictures were out of focus (randomly). I solved the problem sending the device to repair. They changed the camera and now everything is working fine. I think this is a quite common problem, since I read many posts reporting a similar problem. By the way: in my case using for instance camera fv5 resulted in good pictures all the time, since this software is capable of using only the working part of the hybrid autofocus. The problem was that focusing was very slow.
Can anyone confirm if the hybrid autofocus problem exists on M5 from 2016 (5.1 Lollipop or it happens just on 6.0.1)? If not sure about year, there is a sticker under SIM slot, use a needle or something similar to pull it. It should be 16WXX (XX is week the phone was manufactured).
Dear Developers, I experience the same main camera problem. The images are vague after 2 meters. I used fv5 app. But, still same quality. In fv5 app, the maximum resolution shows 3.1Mp(2048*1536). But, front cam shows good images and the back one very poor.*
What should I do..? I bought this new M5dual from Amazon yesterday.
