Anyone one had this issue? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was putting a zag screen protector on my evo and i used there spray and did what i was suppose to and when i finaly got the thing lined up and good to go i let it sit there for 20 minutes put my battery back in and noticed i have a grey out spot on my lcd screen under the glass by the home button i think the screen seal is no good anyone have this issue be4. I didnt spray my phone down. Sucks cause now im unrooting it and gonna take it in cause power button is squeeking and not working all the time and the grey spot is getting annoying..

Assuming you didn't spray to much, and assuming you squeezed as many bubbles and all the liquid underneath out and picked up the liquid quickly with an absorbent of some kind...then likely just coincidental. The replacement phones are crap. I'm taking mine back again because there is something wrong with the sound processing, I get crackles in the speaker and on headphones, and their is dust under my screen

oil slick screen

had my TP2 nearly a year but recently i have noticed the screen has like a rectangle shape oil slick type mark on itvery noticable and seems to be getting worse anyone else had this??
its as though there's water under the screen protector but when i remove the SC its still there
search newton ring.
newtons ring??? kind of the case. the "oil slick" is mearly trapped condensation between the digitizer and the top plastic covering that you catually touch(the plastic you put the screen protector on). moisture seeps in through the bottom keys and earpiece in forms of vapor and liquid. this occurs when you have your phone in your pocket or use it in humidity(shower or weather)...congrats, you ve trapped your sweat lol. the reason why its rectangle is because the screen/digitizer and top plastic are not set flush together. as you know, the top plastic is very flexable so you can take your finger and feel the various componets in the empty spaces. i can confirm my finding because a few months back, i replaced my tp2 screen. i seen it had the oil slick before i opened it and before i put humpty back together again, i wiped under the plastic screen and felt a slight moist film. i tried to guess how the hell water got in and i concluded by a salty electronic taste...yeah i smelt and tasted it...that it was sweat. i always carried my phone in my front pocket and over time, the sweat built up. after a wipe with electronic cleaning cloths, an air dry and then an air can blow(i love my phone lol), i put it back together and bam...no oil slick. another way to think of my theory is, you know when you swim with your watch and condensation builds up on the inner quartz and makes it look foggy?...same thing here. only thing different is that there is only one flat surface and not 2 like inside the phone so the moisture wont look like an oil spill, it will just be foggy.
so how do i open the screen up to get rid is it easy enough to do or will bloww warm air over it do it ???

there are lots of vids on how to disassemble the tp2. check youtube. just to let you know, its a long process. you have to take apart the entire phone just to get to the screen...good luck.
ps i would post the vid link but im typing this off my tp2. if you cant find a good video, i will link one here later.
check my skydrive for the dissasembly doc

Is the touch screen really that fragile or am I missing something?

I have had my VZW TP2 for a while now, and while I try to keep it scratch free it has had a bumpo and bruise before.
Yesterday is fell while I was stepping out of my car. I picked it up, brushed it off, and got angry when I saw a small knick, maybe 2mm long, in the screen. Angrily I turned the screen off and put it back in my pocket.
About an hour later I went to use the phone, and to my suprise, no touchscreen! LCD is fine, no distortion or damage what-so-ever.
Is it possible for such a small knick to completely trash the touchscreen?
I have tried multiple resets and cannot get it to recognize anything.
Short of replacing the screen and/or digitizer, anything I can do?

Not sure if I would calling dropping the phone a few feet from up in the air onto what I can only assume was concrete and not pillows a small "kick"
It sounds like your digitizer is pooched. If your phones under warranty just sent it away to get fixed. It shouldnt shake loose like that I dont think. I know things happen and theres nothing you can do about it when it does. With my touch pro I had a silicone case for it I dropped it so much.. And by dropped it I mean like it would fly 5 feet or more and then the back plate would shoot off and the battery would fly out... not good to do once let alone multiple times! I was sick of my silicone case (which I got after dropping the phone probably a good 10 or more times) so I took it off, a week later I was out on my back patio and had my phone in my shirt pocket. I was on my knees and bent over to pick up something and it slid out. Fell maybe a foot and I picked it up and there was a crack across the screen.. Son of a B$%^&H!
Just happened to land on the corner perfect I guess... Regardless point of that story is I wouldnt call the phone fragile by any means. These things are beasts! But as we know... stuff happens.
Hope it works out for you.

Going naked... how is your camera?

So I decided to NOT but a case around my pretty phone an go naked for a bit. The concern is about the camera lens. I have been getting more and more "careless" with the phone.. not putting it on a soft napkin and just laying it on a table. I have a screen protector on the front so maybe I should just lay it face down. But I am wondering.. anyone have an issue with the camera without using a hard case? The lens actually seems pretty strong....
I've never used an extra case for a phone, they already come with a nice sexy hard plastic one. However with the Evo i would never use it without a screen protector. I think the lens is decently strong, it can take being set down on. Still be careful though.
I use nothing at all not even a screen protector..and it's in perfect condition..i hope it stays like that

I am hunting for a case right now. The phone got pushed by someone's elbow across the table and the sound nearly made my ears bleed and my heart stop. Luckily it didn't do anything to the raised camera, but I am not risking it again.
The Nexus lens is a lot like the Evo lens. I've had mine going for 3 months with rough use and there are a few tiny scratches on the lens, but nothing major. it doesn't effect the image quality at all.
I wouldn't be too worried
my zagg came with a cut out for the camera, going to just drop that on there
I got rid of my Hard case and got the Zagg full body and seidio holster my camera is holding up fine no scratches and i don't lay it flat on the screen
Do what I do...
Pop open the back case, and put on a square piece of CLEAR tape (not the scotch kind), packaging tape seems to work pretty well. Make sure it doesn't overlap on to the back speaker as it can reduce the phone's loudness. Then put the case back on. From time to time just replace the tape when it gets too scratched up.
Screen protector and nothing else. I normally leave the phone screen down on the desk.
I am not that concerned about the camera. There is always a way to replace parts on these phones (you can replace the screen 'relatively' easily also). I am sure I would be able to replace the camera cover/plastic/glass piece.
going streaking
been using it with out any screenprotectir abd case, not a single scratch *knock on wood* the new age screens are not ment to be used with a screen protector, and case just BLAH UGLY
I use a black silicon case and screen protector. I went nude for a while and I was just too nervous about it. The case is easy to take off, so if I let someone play with it, I often just take it off first so they can see just how nice the phone is. Something I like about the case is that the lens doesn't touch the surface when I lay it down - and I don't lay it on the screen, not that it would matter.
Another plus is that it doesn't slip out of my pocket like it used to (and any other phones I've had) when I'm active. Lots of pluses. Just too bad this particular one doesn't look that cool (not bad though). I'd really like to find a similar case that actually looks cool, maybe sporty.
I always use the kickstand and just prop up my phone. I am having no issues at all.
no case no nothing
it's gonna get wear and tear
but you're gonna get a new phone in 1 - 2 years anyway right
I always use a case to keep the phone in good condition for when I sell it after I'm done with it. It always gets top dollar since all the other used ones online being sold are junked up. But to each their own I suppose. Good luck!
No case, no screen protector. Looks like it did when I got it June 4th.
I just ordered this today: http://www.handhelditems.com/product_info.php?cPath=3524_5132_7769&products_id=135999
And it's cheap and it looks like it will do the job just fine with out adding much profile. I'd choose this over a naked alternative. Mine is partially naked, it has a screen protector and has been fine since.
I'll let you know how this case is when I get it.

Same here. I always sell mine cause they still look new. I sold my Moment when I got my EVO and got $230 for it on eBay.

I don't use a case and the camera is just fine, no scratches at all. I even dropped my phone on concrete like, the 3rd day I got it (missed my pocket lol) and the phone is completely fine, aside from a scratch on one of the corners that isn't noticeable unless you're looking for it. Speaking of which... I WANT A BUMPER CASE!! like this.. except black lol.

if anyone finds one let me know
I do not have any screen protector or case, and (until I get a dock) I set my phone down camera face down. I got it opening day and have no scratches on the screen, but there are tiny, minute scratches on the camera lens glass. Though they are contained within the black, non-lens area that reads "8.0 Megapixels". It almost seems like this was intentionally done, as when you set the phone down on the camera, it's at an angle and the viewable part of the lens doesn't seem to touch the table. Photos I take are unaffected. It seems harmless and I will keep going "naked" with mine. I'll try and take a close up pic of the affected area if anyone wants to see.
I've been really careful with the phone but got my first scratch on the lense yesterday. It must have happened in my pocket yet I only keep the phone by itself in there. The Evo is a beautiful phone but having that protruding lens is a retarded design.

Anyone ever replaced their LCD screen?

Hi all-
My MZF went for a swim a couple weeks back. Put it in a bag with some DO NOT EAT desiccant packets for a few days, actually got it to turn back on, except the Power Button didn't work and the camera crashed every time I tried to open it.
I replaced the camera module and volume rocker/power strip with OEM used parts from eBay. Phone came back on, power button and camera worked, and everything actually seemed good until I plugged the phone in to charge.
I came back a little while later and the screen is black. Phone still vibrated on fingerprint touch, and when trying to power up/down with the power button. Did not come back on reboot, and every so often can see a very brief flash on the screen. No sound either. Thinking I somehow fried the display when I plugged it back in. Thinking about getting a replacement, but all the used ones on eBay are scratchy and/or burned in, and all the "new" "OEM" ones just seem shady.
Anybody ever done anything like this? Looking for any insight!
get a scratched screen and lay a glass screen protector on it this will hide some imperfections and prevent more. i replaced my screen once already and it waqs a pain but my moto branded part works great it came from a bad imei number
Found a decent OEM screen on eBay, didn't appear to be in too bad of shape. Definitely going to put a screen protector on it to help with any scratches. Sitting in my PO box right now, and and gonna try installing it this evening!
I am debating replacing mine. The screen scratched at the FFC and made any front pictures blurry. Did some rigging as a temp fix, but the camera sensor is now not covered by the plastic. If I do replace of, I'll do a tear down video. The screen isn't too hard to remove. Of almost came of when I ripped the protector off.

Question Defect in screen coating?

Anybody else had this?
Went to apply a screen protector today and when I wiped the screen with the alcohol wipe I could see clearly 2 small, and I mean small circles about halfway up the screen. Initially thought it was a couple of water marks or something sticky but it wasn't
Can't feel them on the surface and looking under the light they look almost like when you get a spec of dust under an applied screen protector. EE replacing tomorrow as it's within 14 days but can't see this as a common fault after having a quick Google.
Hope it's just a one off manufacturing fault but worth a check. So hard to see but if you steam the screen up with your breath you will see them.
Tried to show the circles in the attached, one breathed on, the other normal.
Looks like dust got in between the glass and screen when they were putting it together.
