[Q] Gold Card - Stock ROM - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I am having a bit of an issue using a Gold Card to install the Stock HTC ROM. I have a Vodafone AU branded phone (branded I assume is just their junk on the ROM right? ). I have issues with Celebrity Charts crashing all the time and want to be rid of their stuff from the ROM. I followed a guide on creating a gold card, it said to use the following command:
$ cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
This did not work for me, and says the directory does not exist. So they said the alternative was to use:
$ cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0:*/cid
So I did this and created my gold card. But, when I run the RUU application (RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed.exe), it starts up the process and gets to a point and fails with error 131 not liking the CID.
I notice if I use the command:
$ cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc2/mmc2:*/cid
I again get another bunch of numbers different from mmc0. With a Vodafone branded Desire HD, which of these am I supposed to use? Also am I running the right RUU application?

Use mmc2 that is the correct CID

Just 1 more question, for anyone who has installed the stock ROM from an RUU. Do you just run the installer all the way through or do you do something similar to this process?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841890
I was just going to run the RUU file and follow that process through, but this thread has me thinking maybe I should do that?

Well I did it and it worked. Thanks for the info

[Noob] 131 error with Goldcards

I have recently upgraded from an unbranded HTC Hero to the much faster HTC Desire. But it's branded with the Bloated Orange UK rubbish, such as traffic demos and games I'd never play. So after having to deal with installing a semi-working Win7 onto my mac, I dug out my old toshiba, installed Win7, and have attempted all evening to create a goldcard. Only managing to find 3 SDcard (stock 4gb, a nokia 256mb and a class 6 16GB), ive continously have attempted to get a generic stock rom on it. But I have ended up with the dreaded Error 131:Customer ID Error
I have followed guides on here, android forums, and the unlockr, but somewhere I'm fail. (User errors. Worst type of errors...)
I have image 1.15.61.10 installed at the moment, and can only get to about 25-30% on "Installing Signature"
So is anyone able to help me out a bit? Because I'm very confused. Is the goldcard.img needed to be placed on my SD card? or just the Hex?
I've got the Adb code, used the reversers recommended, getting the goldcard.img emailed to me (did recieve a goldcard.img.zip once =/), going into the HxT hex and altering the 0000000-0000170 lines on the SD card to match the ones in the goldcard.img. I have browsed through the phone with ASTRO, and have found both a MMC0 and MMC1 folder in mmc_host. But im lost, and would just like to have a normal phone thats not bloated on Oranges.
Any help would be appreciated, as I am thankful for the community here for help with my Hero, and I will be willing to donate for people's assistance.
Have u rooted?
If yes then flash Paul's custom rom
You need the CID from MMC1
If you want to install a Original HTC ROM (RUU) without any crap from Orange use my Tutorial...
Download: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.zip

Thanks a lot!!! This is the only solution that worked for my O2 branded HTC Desire. The first Manual System Update Check offered me FroYo Thank you again!

[Q] downgrade from 1.75 to 1.32 (CID incorrect)

hi,
i want to root my phone, but i've been told to downgrade.
my software version is 1.75.
my phone is quite new, 2-3 weeks ago.
i tried all the methods and i downloaded PD98IMG.zip(1.32 firmware).
after entering the Bootloader, and it checks the zip file, at the end it says::
CID incorrect!
Update Fail!
after checking online, people said that if its branded, it wont work, unless you use a goldcard.
when opening my phone, it brings a Virgin Media logo (from london, uk), so im guessing its branded.
so i formated my 8GB sd card, and installed the goldcard, yet the message still appears!!!
CID incorrect!
Update Fail!
did i do something wrong?
does the type of sd card i have effect a goldcard?, because i think i have a rubbish 8GB sd card, since the original sd card didnt come with the phone when i got it!

is there something more i should do? or is there a way to root the phone with 1.75?
ps: im new to android phones, but have a little background in linux.
Did you use mmc2 while making the card?
Only MMC1 and MMC0 are available...
and MMC1 which is the default one didnt work, but MMC0 did.
i used a better sd card, -- transcend, and with this, after making it a gold card, and putting the zip file on it, the bootloader wouldnt recognize any image
If it does not work, it is not better
Only mmc0 and mmc1 are available?? Do not use disk drive mode, and use mmc2. That is the only one that will work.
I'm using goldcard tool v0.0.5, it only has mmc1 and mmc0
I took it from this website- android.monaco.com/content/software/308798/pc-application-goldcardtool/
And yea, I was on HTC Sync mode, not disk drive.
I'm tried this method for downgrading - igyaan.in/2011/01/how-to-root-desire-hd-included-downgrade-from-1-72-405-3-to-1-32
After that didn't work, I tried this - androidadvices.com/how-to-downgrade-htc-desire-hd-to-1-32-405-6-ota-firmware/
ok, so, i found goldcard helper from someone who uploaded it on a forum.
(can't get it from market, because market wont open, .., one of the reasons why i want to root).
i used mmc2, reversed it, and got the img.
but still, same message!!!
is there something im doing wrong?
by letting android put stuff on the card, does it lose its 'goldcard' powers?
honestly...why is this happening
please help!!!
Use my downgrade guide, it works, it is the original. It is a sticky in the DHD android dev subforum.
ummm, and wheres the link?
oh, and could you explain whats S-OFF and Radio-OFF i've beens seeing it everywhere when it comes to rooting.
is it a must, and what exactly does it do?
yay!!, it worked!!
what i did wrong was,,, on the goldcard helper, i pessed 'menu' and 'copy', and although it said reversed CID copied, it copied the mmc1 CID, not the MMC2
so i jotted down the MMC2 and got an img, and it worked!
thanks for your help!!!
but can u still answer my question above?, the s-off and radio off?

Hi, I have the same problems! The smartphone tell me CID incorrect! I try to create the goldcard with the tools, and with hex editor! But..does't function!
Please help me!
Thanks
did you replace the exact lines with hex editor? from offset (line) 00000000 to offset (line) 00000170 including the 00000170 line?
Later Edit: and i recommend this guide http://driphter.com/index.php?topic=3867.0 ...it's quite easy to follow

[Q] Cannot install any Rom

Hi,
I bought a Desire however it is just stuck in boot mode (white screen with 3 Aliens in green).
I dont know if it's rooted or not and get a mixture or errors when I try to install a rom inc error 140.
The phone info is :
BRAVO PVT2 SHIP S-on
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.09.30_2
AUG 10 2010.17:52:10
SIMLOCk
FAT32 init OK
Open MCCMMC file fail
Open CID file fail
I have tried to use stock and also non stock roms via desktop and also via 2GB SD card.
If I click on recovery it just hangs on white screen again.
I have read this and many forums for the last week so please only reply if you can help.
The stock rom should be Vodafone UK.
Nick
Errrm... and ehy do you keep hitting the SIMLock option?
What RUUs did you try?
Hi,
I don't keep hitting simlock that was just for information for my question.
I have tried :
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Vodafone_UK_2.33.161.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.1_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121684
RUU_Bravo_Vodafone_UK_1.19.161.5_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126338_signed
I have also tried two other roms using the memory stick and as PB99IMG
Nick
Did you make a goldcard - for the PB99IMG.zip method?
Strange, but if it's Vodafone branded, the first should work.
Hi Dave,
I never got the chance to make a goldcard as the phone came through like this.
Nick
I suggest looking at these:
for the goldcard download goldcard tool, unxip and follow the instructions..

Hi,
As I cannot access the phone (to enable debugging mode) I cannot build a Goldcard.
I did check anyway by booting into boot loader but:
Executing adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
Reading adb output
------------------------
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
------------------------
Could not locate CID in output
Executing adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0:*/cid
Reading adb output
------------------------
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
------------------------
Could not locate CID in output
Cheers
Nick
I have extracted the rom and renamed it then placed it onto the memory card (2gb sandisk)formated via pc fat32 it starts to read then says "no image or wrong image".
Nick
Then it definiately does not find the file. Are you named it exactly PBIMG99.zip?
Did you put it in the root of your SD?
Hi,
Thanks for your replies, It says in green very quickly on about 5 lines loading ***** then underneath each is say No image ?.
I am stumped, I even copied yout text fot the image name (dropping the Zip bit)and still no luck.
Nick
RUU_Bravo_Vodafone_UK_1.19.161.5_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126338_signed

Error 170 USB connection error.
Both these I have the phone in Fastboot USB mode.
If I extract the rom from this one rename it and I get the no image found.
Nick
I have tried using all roms with no luck.Need some serious help or it goes in the bin lol.
Nick
A long shot - but might worth trying - given the fact that the CID is requested by a RUU when trying to install on a branded phone, you can un-brand your phone, then try a generic RUU. Read here how to un-brand your Desire.

[Q] Obscure problem with rooting

Hi everyone
The following summarises my quest to root my recently acquired HTC Desire/Bravo:
Key info:
Android 2.2
HBOOT 0.93
Build 2.12.110.4 CL274424 release-keys
Radio 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel 2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0 - [email protected] #1
SIM Unlocked
T-Mobile branded
UK
I first try using Unrevoked. After a promising start, I get the 'Validation error: backup CID missing' message, for which I can find no solution for on the internet. I tried using a different computer booting a clean Slax image, wiping the phone, and using four different versions (3.32, 3.31, 3.21, 3.14) to no avail.
Next I try using the GoldCard method. I find a suitable memory card, and get cracking using this method: http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
I manage to get my CID: 0353445355303147804029a554007c08
However, it turns out that the website used to generate the goldcard boot sector is not working ('Page not found'). It appears to have been working until only recently.
No matter, I found a standalone solution here: http://www.mygsmforum.com/f15/all-htc-goldcard-generator-perl-script-free-standalone-unlimited-7255/
I grabbed the file, and I managed to get it working by compiling both of the perl modules it needs. I typed in the command:
perl ./goldcardgenerator.pl -d sd80.img -p magic=xxx -p cardid=0080c700455a9204087413035535443530
You might notice I haven't specified the security level or the key set, but I can assure you that not a byte of the output file changes when I use the defaults specified in the readme.
So I have a convincing looking header. I do as the instructions say and copy the first 0x170 bytes to the beginning of the card. It reads and writes to the FAT32 partition fine, so I assume the card's good. So I copy over a rom I got here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
Rename it update.zip and boot into recovery. I try to flash, and I get the 'E:Signature verification failed' error, so obviously the goldcard's not working.
My contention is that when I made the image, I missed one or more vital parameters, keys, seclevel, cid etc. However I really have no idea where to start looking for them, since they're so obscure.
Help with anything to do with this (Including getting Unrevoked to work) would be much appreciated! Honestly, I've spent the entire day trying to get this to work.
Thanks,
Hamish Milne
screw unrevoked.
Go to www.revolutionary.io and follow the instructions
Go to my guide and flash recovery
Backup your ROM, and then push superuser with adb.
Done. Rooted.
All resources you need are there. Tutorials, links etc.
Yep, unrEVOked is obsolete. This should be mentioned in sticky thread.
Truly excellent! Thank you!
Flashed the Clockwork mod, and replaced the bootloader without breaking the OS.
However, I still don't have root. I know I could flash the ROM, but I'd rather not wipe my data again. How exactly would I go about 'flashing superuser with adb'? (I have the adb installed btw)
EDIT: Wait, found it
actually, i had hboot 1.06 on my stock cdma desire, and i had to use revolutionary's tool before running unrevoked. i tried 3 different desires with unrevoked before i discovered revolutionary, and after it unrevoked did its job just fine.

[Q] Goldcard without revskills for desire z?

any possibility to make goldcard without http://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard ? it seems to be down
It usually goes down. Just wait.
Sent via smoke signal.
Yes there is, using skorgon's fantastic flashgc
all you need to do is run it without args, and it will create a goldcard image, and flash it to the sdcard.

Help. I'm having trouble understanding the instructions
Please help. I've downloaded the flashgc and not sure where to put this. I've been trying to root my htc legend for the past 8 hours and I have so many downloaded files I'm not sure where this should go. I've been trying 'platform-tools' in my sdk manager folder, is this correct?
I'm also having trouble understanding this "temp-root your phone and then do from a terminal / command window from within your platform-tools directory" how do i temp root and how do i open a terminal command window within a directory?
Any help would be appreciated. I've rooted phones before without much trouble but this is my first htc and its turning out to be a bit of a pain.
thank you
Goldcard Generator
Many people have missed the 'new' currently working site for generating Goldcard Images.
You just got to read your MCID (for instance with Goldcard-Tool http://www.chip.de/downloads/GoldCard-Tool_49005379.html) and paste the numbers in the field, if if starts with '00' it's a reversed CID.
Amazing how many people still need Goldcards, hope that helps a bit.
