Earlier today, i used the one click 2.55 root. After that, i tried to install ACS through the recovery, assuming it was like the process with my EVO. However, i got stuck in recovery mode. Then, i found threads about ODEN and then ultimately decided to revert back to stock. However, it kept failing. After that, i thought that my modem was out of date and that if i flashed EC05 it would work on my phone. It didn't. Now i have no recovery and I have no clue what to do to just restore my phone back to factory setting. If someone could guide me through the steps it would be much appreciated.
You need to use odin to flash a stock rom. Just make sure only reboot is the only thing checked on the left side. You dont need a pit file. Just put the full rom tar in the PDA section and hit start bit make sure the phone is recognized by odin first. It will display a box that says "com x" the x will be a number. The number doesn't matter. So keep tryijng with odin its very picky and will sometimes fail for no apparent reason. Just keep trying. If it keeps failing try redownloading the tar file or use a different usb cable. Good luck

I also meant to say that you needed cwm 3.0.0.6 to use acs rom. You need to be on ext4

Thanks a lot. Do you know of any stock roms that i should use? I have the EB13 modem now if that matters. Also, i was on froyo when all of this happened.
I'd like to add if you still have trouble with odin. Use a short good USB cable and make sure your antivirus programs are off on your PC.
I would flash the new ec05 rom so at least you have he latest. It will also flash the modem for you as well

He helped me out a lot! My phone is now a rescue hope everything works out. Everything everyone is telling you here is correct.

OK, when it fails, pull out your battery, disconnect the cable, reinstall the battery, hold the "1" key on the slide out keyboard, push the power button until the yellow download screen comes up. Now with Odin up, only the reboot box checked add the tar file in the PDA section and the Victory8G file in the pit section. Now connect the cable the phone and a COM box should come up. Hit start. If it fails again, try 1 or 2 more times. You may have a bad data cable or connection. Try a different cable and/or usb port.
Also if you want to go to a custom ROM I would recommend using the EB13 prerooted with CWM3 file here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853209
Use the second file.
It still keeps failing over and over on kernel. I dont think my usb is bad as i just got this phone two days ago. Is there a way i can flash the kernel over so i can make this work? Thanks for all the help by the way. Rooting on the EVO is MUCH easier
Fixed, thanks for the help

Can someone please help? I bricked my phone trying too flash the modem and I keep trying too recover using Odin. I put the tar file in the pda part and the pit file in the pit section. I got both these files from the how to recover brick thread. But when I click start, it gets stuck on the param.lfs part. And the words PARAM go into the white box above the progess bar. Can someone please help? Im scared its bricked for good.
EDIT: I was able too get passed param.lfs but it keeps freezing in different spots, it never completly finishes. Odin is soo unreliable :/ At one point it got too 50% but my phones screen turned pink and it froze. Is there any other program I can use? Or a more stable/reliable version of odin? I have version 1.0 and i've tried 1.3 and no luck too

I had a similar problem awhile ago with a 2.1 flash. It worked out fine. As long as you can get into download mode you should be ok. You don't have a brick.
Just follow the instructions on the flashing back to stock link that is in whodamans post.
I used the .pit in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032 with the DI18 update in this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794138
I did have an issue once where I fixed it by just using the DI18 update and not the pit file(it seemed to find the pit in the update i guess...anyone feel free to correct me on this if i'm worng)
If that doesn't work
3a: Reboot your PC and pull the battery on your phone
3b: Wait for PC to reboot
3c: Open Odin
4c: Put batter back in phone, boot to download mode
5c: Once in download mode connect via USB to the PC
6c: Run it again

I've yet to see a truly bricked Epic. People that use that word should take that as a sign that they shouldn't be flashing.
I had the exact same problem with Odin freezing at "param.lfs". First of all, Odin is hit and miss. A lot depends on the USB cable as well. I ended up having success with Odin once I switched back to the original cable that came with the phone. Also try different USB ports on your PC. Some people have reported problems when using front panel ports. Try ones in the back that are directly on the mobo.

good point about the cable, although most of the time I see recommendations against using the stock one for anything but charging.
I use a BB cable that seems to be thicker than the stock epic one and haven't had any issues.

unplug the phone, pull the battery, restart the computer, walk away for 5 minutes and take a breather, then come back and try it again. As the above poster said, Odin can be screwy and it can take multiple times to go through sometimes.
Make sure to use a better usb cable if you have it available, or borrow one from a friend.

I am using Odin 3 v1.3
I don't use the .PIT file at all.

I uncheck F.Reset time
Put the phone in download mode and hit start.

And I also came in to say this, almost. I don't have too much Epic experience, but yes, people always say ZOMG ITS BRICKED and what they MEAN is it isn't behaving how they expected after a flash and it may require a reflash/recovery. If something is bricked, it is a useless mass of plastic and metal that might have some value sold on Ebay as parts.
...though I'm not discouraging people flashing. Just wish people would stop using 'bricked' as a catch phrase, and instead just tell the story and ask for help.
Sasha if you cant use Odin to restore it, then it's bricked. My advice? Take it back to Sprint and get a new one.

I was having the same problem, hopeful this one works for you..I wish I can remember who posted this so I can give the person the credit for this find, but anyhow, hope it works...
Hello,
I've found myself on another precarious situation with the temperamental testy phone called the Epic 4G. I was installing ViperROM Trinity; I did my normal flash then installed the ROM.
Recovery said everything was fine; but upon restart the phone got stuck in the bootloader loop issue.
So I grabbed Odin; and began to reflash the phone.
After loading the stock Eclair SPH-DI18 it started flashing. But... During the flash it keeps on getting stuck on:
"Factoryfs.rfs"
Odin the stayed on it for 30 minutes; so I took the battery out and tried to boot into CWM to see if anything changed- but it gave me the "Phone -- ! -- Computer" which is where it does nothing. I've gotten out of it before; but this time it doesn't want to budge.
I've tried my laptop / desktop
I've switched to all my USB Ports
Run Odin in Administrator
I only have AutoReboot and F.Reset Time checked
Restarted Computer
Changed USB Cable
Any suggestions guys?
You should only have fast reboot checked.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I tried that; still no luck. Also changed the MD5 to a TAR format to see if that would help. Still stuck on Factoryfs.rfs.
I've also disabled all firewall services; virus software; and attempting to redownload stock DI18 again to see if it's corrupted somewhere.
Take pit file out if using that. Other than that try dl the tar file again.
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!
I've tried that; it still keeps getting stuck on factoryfs.rfs. I don't understand why Odin can't break through this?
try checking all three on the left side
Thanks so far for the help guys, that still didn't work. It's still stuck on factoryfs.rfs.
I had this happen, remove the battery, then plug into your usb cable that is hooked to the computer. I believe it started working after that. If it doesn't, unplug it, then plug it back in holding down the 1 and power buttons. Hope this helps!

Another method bites the dust I'm afraid; I'm starting to believe I may have actually found myself in one of those rare circumstances where I've really screwed something up. Or it's defective... Cause Flashing shouldn't be this hard. It should go through quick and effective.
I thought that's what you meant; so right now its:
- a new USB Cable
- Administrator Odin 3 V1.7
- Battery Out of Phone
- No Pit File
- A brand new md5 files; renamed and removed md5 to convert to TAR
- Only Auto Reboot Checked
Also remove the sd card from your phone. We want the smallest amount of interference possible. Try a blackberry cable if possible. Heard they were high quality. Other than that, post above me sums it up.
I highly doubt you've permanently bricked your phone. Did you flash in a lightning storm or something?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I tried the Micro-SD Card; it's so jacked up now... No, I didn't... What's weird though; I've Flashed my way out of this before. But now; it's just like dead...
Could always try the eb13 installer from samsung, unless they pulled it. If you can't find let me know I have a copy of it.

I am trying to flash epic back to stock rom, but when i run odin and plug in the phone in download mode it keeps on saying it's been added and then removed repeatedly. Any help?
Windows says this?
You put the phone in download mode, start Odin and then connect the phone to the PC.
I'd check to be sure you're using the usb cable that came with your epic. Using others can have mixed results, even though they fit.
Check the connection to the phone; be sure nothing is in the connector.
Try a different usb on your PC.
Can always try to reboot the PC as well.
Good luck
Now it works, but when i select the 528 pit, it's stuck on Setup Connection, but if i use the 512 pit it just says it failed.
Going to second the try a different usb port, although if you have any other micro-usb cords that have thicker cables than the samsung one, use that for flashing.
Also may want to reset computer after you have it fail. It seems to mess with something in windows or leave a process open that keeps it from working right
Also gonna ask a dumb question, you do have a stock epic rom that you're trying to flash along with the pit and you are clicking repartition in odin right?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I was on the DK28 rom before but now since 2.2 has been released officially i want to flash to stock and then get the official version. The problem is everytime i run it, it's on the SetupConnection part but it never gets past that. no i didnt repartition it.
The only suggestion I can offer other then the usual stuff (check connections, USB ports, drivers, etc) is to redownload everything. It's possible that the download could have been corrupted for whatever reason. It's happened to me once when I was trying to Odin back to stock.
Hope this helps.
So now i got it to run, but the phone it self booted into a green screen, and in the list in Odin it's stuck on modem
I tried to do a harmless one click root 3.006 for eb13 downloaded of xda. USB debugging was on and then i ran the unzipped folder to install cwm3 on my phone. i had an error the first time and the second time everything seemed to work fine until the very end it said error phone offline error zimage file missing. so i went to exit out and reboot my phone, and when i when to turn my phone back on i could not get past the 1st screen the SAMSUNG samsungmobile screen. usb debugging is still on and my computer still recognizes the phone when plugged into usb but... Is there anything at all i can do? please help
Try and odin back to stock. If you click on the link in my signature I've made a video showing you how to use odin.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
yup, try to ODIN back to stock.
Also you may want to try re-downloading the once click root, just to be safe. Run it again and make sure you have an EXT4 compatible kernel/ROM on your sd card before hand. You'll have to flash that once you boot into CWM.
i can get into download mode, but i havent flashed a rom yet. all i did was try to root my phone with one click root. should i still try odin
yes, ODIN back to stock and try again. One click root 3.0.0.6 is only if you want to convert to EXT4. If this is the case, you have to flash a compatible kernel and rom.
If you do NOT want to convert, then use the one click root 2.X.X.X. You will not have flash anything else and you will be rooted.
Or if you want to make things even easier, check out the development section and ODIN the stock plus rom. It's pre-rooted, RFS or EXT4, and has additional tweaks to make life good.

possibly a bad flash. Did it fail or pass?
If it failed, try a different USB cable and/or a different USB port. If you are using a desktop computer, make sure you are using USB ports on the back of the tower, instead of front USB ports.
ODIN is a bit wonky at times. If it fails, try, try, try again.
What version of Odin are you using? I still use the old 1.6. The newer versions seem more picky.

Hi,
I have been a regular visitor of this website and have gained quite a good amount of knowledge through this forum.
I have been with android for the past 2 years and I have loved the android experience.
2 days ago, I read that there was a feature in android whereas the free apps access the internet frequently and use up precious battery power also the paid apps access the google play store in order to verify licenses. Both these kind of apps wakes up itself regularly and this eats up huge amount of battery.
To counter this I was searching for solutions through this website and found that there was an app which could be downloaded and which can handle such kind of scenario. Lucky Patcher. I didn't read the whole thread but I just went ahead and downloaded that app and my phone stopped working minutes after its installation. Upon reading the whole thread I found out that the android phone needs to be rooted in order for that app to work. BIG MISTAKE!
Now my phone is dead. I can start it but it gets stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S3 logo and never goes ahead.
I took the help of this forum to flash a stock ROM of S3 onto my fone using Odin 3.07 and a stock rom downloaded from samsung dash updates dot com.
This is the name of the folder that was downloaded from the website
"Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-T999V_GLW_1_20120818102113_dgbyab64vd"
I tried flashing it using Odin following the procedure but there was nothing happening on the software or on the phone. I kept the phone attached while Odin was "Initialising" for around 4-5 hours. I slept along that time, and when I woke up, it was still there. I was supposed to get "PASS!" on Odin but I didn't get that. I downloaded the previous versions of the stock ROM and tried that but all in vain.
Phone model: SGH-T999V (Wind Mobile, Canada)
Now I can't find a solution to this problem and this is my last resort. By the weekend I will go to one of those mobile stores which I haven't seen in ages, but will have to go there as I am unable to revive back my fone. And I utterly miss using it.
If there is anything any of you guys can help me with, I will be more than happy to reply to any further information you need.
Thank you all for reading, and thanks a million for even thinking of helping me.
God Bless you all.
-shanxthechashmish
I can't get in recovery mode (Home+volumeUP+Power). it vibrates once but the screen remains blank.
I can get into downloading mode (Home+volumeDown+Power). which gives me two options, one to continue and the other to cancel.
(May be this helps to determine whether my phone has been bricked or not!)
Using ODIN, the following information is given and is stuck at this only...
"<OSM> KIES_HOME_T999VVLDLL1_T999VYVLDLL1_CL616748_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..

<ID:0/005> Odin v.3 engine (ID:5)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..
<ID:0/005> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/005> Initialzation.."
Usually, if you're stuck.during boot you just need to factory reset. Are you sure you're trying the right way to boot recovery? Hold volume up, home and power, when it vibrates, release power but continue holding volume up and home. Some blue text should flash at the top of the screen (you can let go of all buttons now) and it should boot recovery.
No idea why Odin isn't working. Do you have kies installed? If so, get rid of it, reboot and try again.
You could try flashing CWM or TWRP (see my Sig). Then boot recovery and factory reset or flash a Rom.

Sounds like the drivers are missing. Or you need to run ODIN as administrator
I'm with @KAsp3rd, the computer is not seeing the phone, reinstall the USB drivers try again.
Here is a guide I made:
1. Download and install USB Drivers from here: Thanks to @DocHoliday77 for hosting
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=1368
2. Download and extract ODIN 3.07 from here: Thanks to @DocHoliday77 for hosting
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=1369
3. Download Stock ROM image (.tar file) from here: Thanks to @DocHoliday77 for hosting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687
4. Save all open files and reboot computer
5. Boot phone into Download mode (also called ODIN mode) by shutting down the phone and holding Volume Down & Home then pressing Power until it vibrates, still holding Volume Down & Home buttons, until the "Yellow Triangle" screen shows up.
6. Plug phone into computer and open ODIN 3.07 and make sure that only "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" are checked.
7. Click on the "PDA" button (right side about half-way down), browse for ROM .tar file, click "Open" button.
8. Click "Start" button and watch to "Reset" or "Fail" to show in the 1st square (upper left side),
9. Phone will reboot
10. Leave phone alone for 10mins+ to let all of the first time boot stuff complete.
Good luck with it.

yes, I was doing the right way with the boot recovery. There was a blue text when the SAMSUNG logo flashed, but nothing after that. I let go off the power button while holding the power up and home buttons, but nothing went ahead.

yes, I was doing the right way with the boot recovery. There was a blue text when the SAMSUNG logo flashed, but nothing after that. I let go off the power button while holding the power up and home buttons, but nothing went ahead.
I dont have kies installed. My laptop has a fresh win 7 ultimate installation. I got the usb drivers for samung already installed, it detects the phone everytime on one of the COM ports.
I'll go through the flashing CWM and TWRP. you meant your signature, right?
sorry for being such a newbie..

Yes, in my signature. But the others may still be correct. When you connect and open Odin does it show the port number in the top left area? If not then it's probably a driver issue, even if they're installed. Happens a lot believe it or not. Also try other usb ports on the computer.
If you can flash recovery in Odin though, this is all irrelevant of course! Either way let us know what happens.

Thnaks for this detailed list.
but i know this drill, the only problem being that the phone is not going anywhere after the step where the ODIN has already flashed the file on the phone.
It gets stuck while "Initializing.." I have posted that as an update on my Post.
As KAsp3rd said that I must try running it as an administrator, I might do it tonight and will let you all know what it gave me..
Thanks for all the help..
I think we posted at the same time so did you see my post? Do you remember if Odin had the port number at the top left? In the Odin output it said ID:0, so it may not be seeing the phone.

@DocHoliday77
Yes, it shows the COM port on the top left corner of the ODIN.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the driveres several times, but with no effect.. I am thinking the run as administrator is the one thing I havent thought of or tried or seen anywhere on the forum.
I will post the result of that as well by tonight.
And thanks for hosting so many files online. I downloaded the one that was needed for the Stock Firmware.
Ok, and in case you don't know, uninstalling the driver software isn't enough on its own. Go into device manager, right click and either update drivers, or uninstall, then install the new driver package.

Windows, always reboot after uninstalling any drivers.
@DocHoliday77
I tried that thing again. Reinstalled the drivers after uninstalling and rebooting. there is still no response.
I gave it to one of my friends, he tried putting in the recovery file and now the screen says "Installation of the software has been interrupted, please restart to begin"
I'll post the screenshot in the morning now.
Also, @KAsp3rd : I tried running Odin as administrator, but the same thing happened. It used to get stuck at "Initialization"
Any more advices ?

Is it the phone that says installation interrupted? When he tried flashing the recovery did he use odin? Did it seem to flash properly?
Something else I don't thonk hss been mentioned is to try a different usb cable. Preferably one thst came with the phone, or another device. (Some cables sold for recharging are not capable of data transfer on these devices).
Also, try all ports on the computer, and unplug all unnecessary peripherals.
If something happened and you got a bad flash, it could be bricked. Can't remember if you tried KAsp3rd's unbrick method already.
Another thing you can try to get recovery installed is to adb shell into the device and using the dd command, dump recovery to the phone. Youll have to have the android sdk installed to do this though.
Its hard to say what's really needed at this point though. Usually if you can get download mode, you can Odin the stock firmware. Most Odin problems are due to driver and cable issues. (Is Windows fully updated?)
Even though you can get download mode, the debrick method may still help, but I'm just not sure. Maybe I'm missing something.....

I have the original cable with me, the one that came with the s3.
he tried using ODIN, but thats as far as I know. He said something about using Kies to flash the rom as well. not sure what.
No, I didn't try KAsp3rd's unbrick method. Could you please guide me where could I find that?
Also, everything you said after this unbrick method simply doesn't make any sense to me. May be some guided instructions would be helpful.
And yes, the windows is fully updated, no issue on that.
Where can I find the unbrick method?
If you want to just search for android sdk. It'll find Google's page for it and instructions. Should also find some good guides on installing and using. All I'd 've doing is searching for then repeating it back to you, so it'll be easier for both of us if you just go to the source. I think it's developer.Google com or something similar.
And she'll basically connects to your phone and allows you to run commands as if you were using the terminal emulator.
The debrick thread is stickies in development.
