I've got an unrooted stock HTC Desire that for no apparent crashes as soon as it boots.
I cant unlock it to enable USB debugging to root and the options in HBOOT arent making any difference.
is there anyway to flash the stock rom outside of android, in HBOOT via SD card or USB?
Download latest unbranded rom (2.29.405.5 for Europe). Extract rom.zip from .exe file. Rename it to PB99IMG.zip. Put this file on the SD card. Power off your phone. Press power button and volume down simultaneously and flash.

Hello all,
I have an unbranded desire (GSM), rooted with the latest unrevoked, and an official ROM.Today I have received a new update OTA… something with Android Market in size of 28.87 MB. I’ve tried to install but I have not succeeded. For more info about my phone see the attached pictures.
Now the details: I saw that the update was not working , so I decided to “force “ the install process using the install update.zip from clockwork mode (2.5.0.7) and toggle signature option (it was a message about some signature error). Everything looked fine, all the process and then a message tells me to restart. Since then a loop started: white screen with green letters for HTC logo and after that a restart. And again, and again…
I have a backup on sd card. But when I try to access, the recovery menu shows me a dark screen with a phone and a red triangle with “!” sign in it. I have also the official RUU but my computer refuses now to see my phone despite of a very good link between them. Two days ago I have installed the official RUU and the connection was ok. Maybe it is because my phone is not loading all of the starting process.
Help me please with some ideas, advices. Thank you.
You can't apply an OTA to a rooted Desire without issues - how many more poeple are going to do this before reading threads and realising this!!!
You'll have to hard reset and if that doesn't work flash a stock RUU and root again
PLease tell me how to hard reset or how to flash a stock RUU. please remember i can't connect to the computer because it's not loading all the starting process
You can either:
1. Download the 2.29.405.2 RUU from shipped-roms.com and flash it via FASTBOOT
or
2. Download the 2.29.405.2 PB99IMG from shipped-roms.com and flash it via HBOOT after renaming it PB99IMG.zip instead of the long file name I used, copying it to the root of your SD card and booting into HBOOT and following the instructions
Thank you very much for your quick answer.
But please be more specific
1. How to flash it via FASTBOOT?
2.Please give me step by step instructions on how to boot the zip file.
Sorry for being annoying. And sorry for my english
For RUU:
1. Download RUU from this link
http://www.multiupload.com/UOWLL86GVB
2. Turn off your phone
3. Turn it on again whilst holding the back button
4. Once the white screen with the 3 Androids at the bottom says FASTBOOT connect to PC with USB cable and it will change to say FASTBOOT USB
5. Run the RUU
6. All being good you'll be on stock 2.29.405.2
To flash the PB99IMG.zip:
1. Download the ZIP file from here:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.zip
2. Turn off phone
3. Remove SD card from phone and connect to PC using a card reader and a micro to normal adapter
4. Rename the ZIP file to PB99IMG.zip (not PB99IMG.zip.zip) and copy it to the root of your SD card (root = not in any folders)
5. Put SD card back in your phone
6. Turn it on whilst holding volume down
7. Follow instructions on the phone
8. Once done you should be on stock 2.29.405.2
BOTH OF THESE WILL NEED YOUR GOLD CARD TO COMPLETE
thanks. Starting now...
JOB DONE... SMOOTHLY
You do it by RUU OR PB99IMG btw - NOT both
JOB DONE SMOOTHLY. Thanks a lot.
No probs, keep the RUU or PB99IMG to hand in case you need them in future
Hi to all XDA people
After many fight with my desire i, finally, solved a brutal issue.
My phone was rooted with HTC Froyo ROM (via Unrevocked 3.21)
After a OTA update my Desire go in crash
The ONLY way to restore successfully the phone was this below:
1) Download from google this file "PB99IMG_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.zip"
2) Rename it in "PB99IMG.zip"
3) Put it in the root directory on SD Card and insert the SD Card in your phone
4) Reboot your phone in Recovery mode (Volume button hold down and push ON button)
5) On starting in Recovery mode the phone check, automatically, if on the SD-card there is the PB99IMG.zip file.
6) Follow the instruction and, finally, you will have a new original ROM on your phone
After this you can "play" newly with your phone
Enjoy
I hope ur phone was not branded
Else u would have required a Gold card too
Does anyone know what is the stock ROM (RUU) for Vip (Vodafone) branded phones bought in Croatia?
Since i can't get HTC sync to recognize my phone (tried dozen of solutions: different USB drivers, installing PDAnet, older/newer versions of Sync, Android SDK... none worked), is there a way to return it to stock ROM using SD card? I have read that i just need to run the RUU, take out *.zip out of the temp folder in Window and put it on phones SD card.
I want to return my HTC Desire to stock ROM so i can receive official OTA updates.
Phone details:
SLCD screen
PVT 4 SHIP S-ON
Erasesize 20000
HBOOT 0.93.0001
model number A8181
Currently it is rooted (by unrEVOked 3.22) and has ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7 installed.
Thank you! / Hvala!
Have you checked shipped-roms.com?
Note: You will need a to find an RUU greater than version 2.0 as you have an SLCD screen. If you flash an RUU lower than this version, you will end up with an SLCD brick.
Thank you for the heads up. I did a lot of google-ing and searching the XDA forum and i am aware of SLCD screen "problems", so that's why i stated it in the phone specs
The latest Vodafone RUU i can see is: "RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Vodafone_UK_2.33.161.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed.exe" but i am not sure if Vip Croatia is using those Vodafone UK ROMs or some other ones?

Best thing would be to get the latest Generic WWE RUU - RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release
EDIT: You will also need to create a Gold Card, use the tool in my sig below to do so.
Just to add, you will still receive OTA updates.
After you download the RUU, do the following to carry out the PB99IMG method:
(1) In order to extract the rom.zip from the RUU, run the RUU to the Welcome screen (do not connect the phone at all). While the RUU is running, go to Start > Run, and type in %Temp%.
(2) Look for the rom.zip, copy it to the Desktop, and then rename it to "PB99IMG.zip" (and not PB99IM.zip.zip, the .zip is the extension and is not part of the actual filename itself)
(3) Mount your SD card and then place the PB99IMG.zip to the root of the SD card.
(4) Unmount the SD card and turn off the phone.
(5) Hold down the volume down key, and press the power button once, release the vol down key when in the Bootloader screen.
(6) You will then be asked to apply the PB99IMG.zip.
As a result, this will erase all your phone data, just like performing a hard/factory reset.
Thank you for the tips and guide MasDroid! I will use the ROM you suggested.
*i've created goldcard before i started to mess with the phone, so i can have it for "worst case" scenarios - better safe than sorry
samo da pozdravim sunarodnjaka
Takodjer
Nadam se da si uspio.
Hope it works.
I have tried this but when It reboots it just loads zip file and I get options:
fastboot
recovery
clear storage
simlock
And When I try to update for exe file I get CID error?
Can you help me to unroot my Desire?
Thanks

Still haveing the same problem. What do i need to do to get back to stock rom?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
my phone was bricked giving vibrations with volume + power buttons after a failed try of updating RUU via computer.
then i give phone to a person, he repaired the phone somehow, now when i press the power button, a while screen with htc logo appears, and if i press volume down + power, it goes to HBOOT with following information given
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.90000
MICROP-0451
RADIO-7.46.35.08
it also gives the option "SIMLOCK, FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, CLEAR STORAGE"
plz help me how can i get it to working condition again.
the person who repaired its boot said he is unable to flash it.. i don't understand what it means.. so i came to xda for solution
Is it possible to update via RUU with S-ON?
RUU says the phone is not connected to PC when i try to update it. it is detected in device manager as Android 1.0 when in Hboot
you should be able to get it going again as long as you have an sd card and some patience
ok first off follow this guide https://sites.google.com/site/androidbyyorzua/home/tutorials/extracting-rom-files-from-htc-ruu
ok now that you have your rom.zip rename it to PG76IMG.zip
then place it onto the root of your sd card. (the root of the sd card is the first screen you come to when you access the sd card on the computer/phone ect ect ect.)
then boot the phone with volume down + power.
the phone will find the pg76img.zip and and ask to update.
push volume up.
let it do its business and hopefully it will fix your phone.
bear in mind this implies that you have the correct ruu. and more importantly the correct cid. but if it wont update it the phone should give out an error code
good luck and post back

i tried this method.. i made a goldcard, put the file on its root directory..
when i power it on using volume down + power button, it goes to HBOOT menu and do not give any option to install the file..
is the hboot of the ruu lower than your current hboot? if so this wont work. and does the hboot even search the sdcard?
I accidentally flashed to wrong firmware to my HTC Desire 530. Now when I try to flash the Verizon firmware, I get an error stating that the file is too large. I am trying to flash through adb.
Hey there. I posted the Verizon Firmware. I had the exact same issue!
Grab a microsd card and change the file name to 2PSTIMG.zip and place on the root of the MicroSD card. Then reinsert into the phone and boot the phone into fast boot/download mode. Either from typing via computer “adb reboot download” or folding volume down and power as it boots!
From there it will ask you if you’d like to accept the update. Press the volume up button and enjoy the magic!
Let me know if you have issues!
