.16 radio? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is anyone using this radio?
if so can anyone tell me their output about it?
thank you.

Is something wrong with your current radio? If not why in the world would you change it? If it ain't broken, don't try and "fix" it...

Jokes aside, I don't think there's much of a difference or people would have 1: started a thread long before you did, or 2: be all over your thread hating or loving the radio.
Did you use the updated auto .ril matcher with the new radio?

I've been using this radio (. 16) for almost 2 weeks and it has been the best one by far.. highest hspa+ speeds, best reception and battery life

[Q] flashing cyn mod 7 with new radio

i like have no signal while Im at work,in hosptial. With Myn i had signal power lots of place. Ever since I went ginger happy i get like no data connection at all. so like no texting while im at work. I wanna flash the latest radio but is wondering if a good move or bad. Holla back and letme know...
also where can i find the latest radio zip.
thxs
Yes, of course you should update your radio. Especially because it can help with speed issues. Update with the zips on this thread
You flash any of them through your recovery, but I wouldn't update your HBoot which is why it's not in the combo.
It wont let me download radio 215. Why is that. From Cal's site

Has radio 2.15 been a success for anyone here or in other words nightmares.
Sent to XDA by the mind of an EvoKing. LoL
I have had no problems with the 2.15 radio.
Now signal bars drop down to all white. More drop calls as well. Should I have just dl the whole string update?

Wifi tether speeds...

I kept arguing with myself, if I should post this here or in the development forum, or what, so if a moderator feels the urge to move it, please do so.
Should end user speedtest via wifi tether (iPad) be somewhat similar to the results of 3g speedtest on the phone? I am trying to decide if I am getting in the neighborhood as what I should. I can be parked in the middle of a full bar signal area (I know, I know...the bars aren't fool proof, but all 4 at least means more than none or 1) and I only get about .9mbps on the phone and then about .7mbps on the iPad.
I'm using my Dinc (of course) and I'm running CM7 Final and the latest Incredikernal 2.6.37.6. I'm also using the wifi tether that's stock with CM7.
Thanks,
Roger

What radio are you using? Ive tried different radios and 4.08 and 11.19 work best for me for signal and data speed.
4.08 works great for me
I am using the stock HTC radio. As much of a cutting edge geek as I am, I'm really nervous about messing with the radio. Is it honestly as iffy as they make it sound, or is it no different than anything else, just gotta pay attention to what you're doing?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Check md5 sum, flash with full(ish) battery, and don't pull the battery while its flashing. Oh and make sure your SD is formatted fat32. Check those things and you'll be fine.

Slow Data on CM9/10

I've been looking for the answer to this question, but I can't seem to find it.
Does anyone know the reason WHY there are slower data speeds on non-stock based ROMs?
Laugh at me if it's a stupid question, but I'd still like to know...
Thanks!!!

Actually, I'd like an answer to this. Even though I've been reading the CM10 thread from the beginning, I've missed some things.
I'm glad the OP asked this in the Q&A forum instead of clogging the original thread. Thanks for being a **** to him, though.

Even tho I been following alone with cm10 development and what not, no one has give us a straight answer, my best bet would be the reason is that cm10 is only working on hspa, and those that are on a 42mbps don't get their speeds like on TW, it only makes me thing that because the galaxy nexus does the same and is build from Google like that, when you run cm10 you only see H but when you run TW customs run and have H instead 4G, you see H+ while using it,I'm not sure if this is correct but that would be my best bet

Do you think that it's something that they're working on; something we can expect to see eventually? Or do you think that we'll always only have 3g speeds with a CM based build?
Thanks!!

I am on cm10 and still get 20mbps down at the same spot the factory ROM was so I didn't think there was an issue.

I have no idea we will have to wait for someone wiser to explain if that's the reason or not, Tmobile has hspa, hspa 21mbps and hspa+ 42mbps, I think cm10 works with 21mbps but not 42mbps, I haven't seen anyone go over 20mbps, I have gotten up to 14mbps tho, on stock I have an speed test for 26mbps

There are a few build.prop edits floating around that are 'supposed' to improve data speeds. Has anyone had success with them?

Are you running the clean nightlies or a modded build?
I'm on the latest AOKP from WhitehawkX and I'm getting 9-11mb down. Better but I was getting 17-20 stock roms.

I've seen this asked in a few different threads now and some are saying that the CM devs are not planning on directly addressing this problem until they have a stable build worked out. Of course I can't say how true this is but I've seen it a few times now.

no more 4g

I rooted my tmobile S3 today and it worked fine. Later I installed a cyanogen nightly sang noticed it was only getting 3g, so I did a restore to the stock rooted firmware through ROM manger. With that I got just bars, no indication of 4g or 3g. The phone wouldnt go to the internet, it said no connection available. I had to restore back to cyangen to get the phone just to work... but regardless of which settings I chose the phone is stuck in 3g. What is the fix? I'm going crazy here

I don't know much more than you sorry. I know imei can get corrupted when flashing and it causes problems like that.

3G on cm is the same as 4G on tmo stock rom.
Try checking your apn settings on the stock rom since I think your imei is fine, without it you wouldn't have gotten 3G at all, even on cm.

Wait, are you just looking at the icon without it doing anything. Many aftermarket ROMs will show 3G when the phone is doing nothing. It will show 4G or H when you make it work.

It is not an LOL deal, if you have no clue that means you didn't bother reading anything about flashing a rom IMEI is mentioned all over, IMO you deserve no help what so ever since you think LOL is a proper response to not reading how to do the job the right way, enjoy your slow data speeds maybe if you learn to read it will work again

[MODEM] East Coast users, please read!

I looked around, but couldn't find a general thread. The newest modem that came on ICS 4.0.4 (I lose track of the names and numbers) does decent, yet poorly in some areas. I'd like to know, what modem works best for people in the following states ..
New York
Massachusetts
Connecticut
Rhode Island
Thank-you.
Newest modem is LH1 i live in the south east and it works great.

It has been covered exhaustively...modem quality is dependant on the device. You need to flash and see for yourself. No one can tell you how a modem will perform on your phone

No.. that's not right.. radio/modem quality is mostly based of location .. not the device. Now I'm sure a bit come down to the device especially if its running custom roms.. but for the most part its based on your region.
I live in Orlando FL and all the the modems are about the same for me.. I believe if your in a really strong service area like I am it won't matter the radio..

what i was saying is that two people may have the same modem on the same phone, and it may function completely different unless they are using the exact same rom, and connecting the the exact same towers

I like how someone actually hit thanks on your post... :banghead:
But that's not what you said... you said .. in a mostly rude way.. that it was dependent on the device and that's just not true.. while it weighs a little on the result a radio /modem performance is mostly bases on location .. but thank for clarifying that.

Yeah it's both, but usually for large cities, every radio will have similar speeds. I found that the difference is the ping/latency. My sister and i both have the same phone, and ROM, but ping differs based on radio. Example, mine is great with the note radio, while hers is better with uvle1. However, mine on uvle1 isn't that bad either. I think that's what doug was trying to say.
Anyways to op. Just try all the top radios people have reported. Remember to aim for latency over speed.

Long island, NY lh1 def. Is better than lg3 in the battery department, although lg3 gives better speeds, I can live with the small difference.
