I just got a Motorola Defy and I think the USB cover is a bit loose. Some say you need to apply a bit of force to remove and put it back on but I only have to touch it with my nail and it pops right off. This phone will definitely not work in humid areas with such a loose cover. And this cover has to be opened and closed on a daily basis, I don't trust it right now.
Why is it that no one has realized how insanely useful inductive charging would be on a rugged phone?! No stupid flaps/covers that can get worn out.
Mine is nearly 3 months old, and the usb cover has been opened/closed for over a hundred times. The cover is not as tight as before but defy is still very water resistant.
Actually I just wash it with tap water. I no longer throw it to water/beer for fun now, but I am very confident that it can survive an accidental drop to water (immediate pick up) or a little rain/water flash with the covers closed, even a bit loosely.

The USB port does more than just charging though. Even with inductive charging, you'd still need the USB port. True, you might not open it as much, but it would still have to be there.

Hi all,
I've recently bought a DEFY. It works quite brilliantly and very fast.
I've noticed that the USB rubber cover of my DEFY is not very firm when closed. There is a little seam between it and the phone body, and the seam grows a bit thicker as it approaches the USB port side. I've included some pics of it.
Higher res pics are at

(Sorry I don't have enough permission to directly link pics here.)
I've also spilled some water onto it under a water tap. When I opened it I could see some water drops on the edge of the inner side of the rubber closer to the back.
I don't know whether this is normal or defect and I'm not sure whether it will stay up against water which is one of its great and practical feature.
Can anyone compare it with yours? Are all DEFYs like this?
Thank loads and happy holidays!
Cheers,
Shuo
When I close mine I am careful to press it in firmly as otherwise it looks "not quite shut." It has to squeeze in there. I presume this what's suppose to keep water out and as I have dunked my phone countless times without incident. However, if you think yours is twisted or bulging when seated, I don't think that's right.
Mine doesn't have that small hump when in place. I think there is some extra rubber under the clip.

yeah mines got that, you get the bump when the cover gets bent the other way when you move it to get the usb cable in
After charging mine looks like it will stay with the bulge like that when I put the cover back in place, but even so, I can press it firmly, and it actually snaps into place. Sort of even has a clicking sound. I only started noticing this as before I would press it in even, and the bulge would stay there for a while and slowly smooth itself out, but now if I press it in, and then press my thumb/finger all the way around the cover, it snaps into place very tightly.
EDIT - After looking closely at mine I see the hole is actually at an angle, so pressing it in straight would leave it with the bulge. You need to press it against the angle of the phone for it to snap into place.

exactly what i was about to say - works for me.
Wow you are so friendly guys.
Thanks lods! I'll look into it when I come back today!
I did get a slight feel of "snap in". Just dunked it shortly into water, and it still lives!
So I guess it's all right.
I get some moisture around the USB plug hole even when the cover is in place as well. Probably not a big deal. You can try using some grease to improve the seal as well.

One review notes a small amount of "O-ring" sealant or grease around the battery cover rim. I supposed you could add a little. Just don't use vasoline, that's a pertroleum product and will degrade certain types of real and synthetic rubber.
How tightly does your usb plug/cover fit. Mine seems to go into place with a gentle push and takes a bit more effort to get out but I feel it might not be water tight. The phone is about a week old.
I even cannot sure mine is still watertight .... its microphone/headset plug cover is not so tight now..

Just drop it in the pool and you'll find out...
Seriously, I was thinking that some sort of cream or oily stuff applied on the plug could improve its water resistance. What do you think?

Same here, 15 days old. haven't tried if it is still watertight
I was trying to fix one problem and ended up making another.. Anyone know if the plastic piece that has the latch on the mother board (zif connector maybe?) that holds the ribbon for the charger can be replaced? The tablet still works but I can now no longer charge it or plug it into the computer. If its not possible to fix that then is wireless charging possible? I know I still wouldn't be able to sync with the computer but I would be good with that as long as I can charge it.
Below is a pic of what im talking about
Erm ouch, im no electrician but i think you may have ****ed it...
Right well best thing i can suggest is that a Samsung repair agent might have to look at it.
(Or you could find the pieces on the Interwebs for it)
I've done this a few times to laptop motherboards years ago. Just use some high quality tape to make sure the connection is complete. If it comes undone you'll just have to redo it, but if you use good tape you shouldn't have to. Definitely not the end of the world, they're just cheap plastic clips.

Even u manage to wireless charge it and how is tablet suppose to get power from the battery?
The zif connector is cheap, but alot hasssle to remove the board and dont know if the EMI shield is soldered into the board or with screw like Note 10.1 had.
Hard to see from this disassemble video. (scroll to end)
If u got good soldering skills and can find the zif connector part. Then its worth a try.

Backyard repairs
All you need to do is achieve 2 things.
1. Locate it so that the cable contacts line up with the pins in the connector.
2. Apply pressure on the cable so it has good contact.
Using your fingers put pressur on it and check that its charging when plugged into the usb.
Then tape it in position.
To get the pressure on it, cut a piece of plastic and tape it on the area where it contacts the pins.
Then cut some rubber so that its thick enough such that it puts pressure on that plastic bit when its put back together.
Tape that rubber in position and put cover back on.
Should last, but if not just redo it again and get the rubber thickness right.

haha.. I was messing around and figured this out.. only I put a piece of cardboard box on it and taped it.. put the cover back on it and its charging again.

Well it says charging but the percent is still going down?
Going to power off the tablet and see what happens.. ugh
Also watched the video that was posted and I cant really tell much from the video.. if you can just buy one of those sockets and have it put on the motherboard then I will go that route.
I was wondering what role the back cover of the note 4 is for?
Mostly asking because I might have ruined it when I was trying to put this stupid carbon fiber skin on it -_-;; Why did I think using a hair dryer would be okay... *face desk On the bright side, I'm pretty sure I exposed only the back cover to heat and not the phone itself lol d: If I did I'm dumb and don't deserve this phone >->
Anyways, I think I've accidentally ruined the back cover of my droid inc4g and the phone just never worked the same after x_x The signal sucked and the battery stopped holding a charge... x: I'm using an s-cover case on my note 4 at the moment, but still curious in case I ever decide to use something else for protection s:
nope
Samsung even makes a flip cover case where you remove the back completely, you don't have to worry about the cover.
However, if there was any damage to the phone itself, but they take some pretty good heat.
I live in SoCal and left it a couple times in my car and it was like 107 outside, so!
Check out ebay. You can get all kinds of back replacement plates at good deals.
Eve b customized ones if you prefer

Probably should let this thread die but...
What is this part of the back cover for? Never really found out I think.. or I just have bad memory :silly:
107? I live I Phoenix and just going outside exposes the phone to 117+ on a regular basis. Heck I have even mistakenly left my phone in the car before and it gets 160+ easy in there. I bet it will be ok
after the first charge my rubber cover for the battery looks bent. i guess i pried it out and to the left instead of backwards towards the strap and that's how this happened. i have big fingers and it wasn't easy for me to pry it open at all. i tried to bend it back the other direction and it almost sits flush now. it doesn't appear the seal around the actual micro-usb port is damaged, just the outer rim standing up you see. wondering if this is normal, and if it will have any negative effects when it comes to waterproofing.
Yes...exactly the same.
Doesn't look right

It looks to me like your usb port cover is damaged. I can't believe that pulling it out on the left side instead of the back would bend it permanently like that. I would guess it's defective. If the watch is new and still under warranty, I would probably try to exchange it for another.
I've had my SW3 for about 7 months and have taken the usb rubber cover off many times to charge the watch. So far, it has held up well and still looks new. Click on the below imgur link to see a couple of pics of my SW3 compared to yours.
http://imgur.com/a/Es97z
anyone else? i googled pics of this and all the pictures showed it to be bent the same as mine and onatepp
maybe even helpful if onatepp or others have tried this in the water with no damage...
No need to worry in my opinion. Mine looks the same and I bought mine 7 months ago and several times per week I am taking a shower with it after workout.... I do not think you need a perfect seal to have a waterproof watch, the usb port would not let the moisture into the main body. The rubber cover mainly serves to prevent electrical issues when charging, and maybe corrosion.
You can try with yours
Ok, getting serious, I do not think there is an issue with water. The USB port is sealed.
Will not leak water on the inside. The rubber is meant not to let dust/rubbish inside.
