Guys,
I am lost. I thought I am not stupied, but it seems I am.
Here's the problem:
After flashing a couple of different ROMs somehow I wasn't able to access recovery any more - I always used a batch to load the recovery, I never flashed in permanently. Now I only see the white HTC screen.
So I unrevoked, a new RUU plus rerevoked but both scenarios give the same result: unrevoked it stopping when it should boot in recovery.
Also I used some batch scripts flying around. and the problem should be that it is not possible to write the recovery.
my phone:
BRAVO DVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.75.0000
MICORP-031d
TOUCH PANEL SYNT0101
Radio 0-4.05.00.11
Any clue how I can restore recovery???
Thanks in advance.
M
Can you get into fastboot? If you can, go to shipped-roms.com and find your original stock RUU. Connect your phone and place it in Fastboot mode (select Fastboot and wait until it says FASTBOOT USB and run the RUU your phone came with originally). You may need to insert a Gold Card into your phone if you are running a generic one).
I;m just thinking... it could also be a USB brick, see this guide here for a possible fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691187
If i were you, i would steer away from manually accessing recovery using batch scripts/pushfiles, especially when connected via USB, as this can always potentially brick your phone. As you were saying, use unrEVOked with a permanent custom recovery like Amon-Ra, or use ClockworkMod. This will make it virtually impossible to brick your phone.
Hope you get it fixed soon.
You could also try running unroked from a linux live cd. People have less problem running it true linux.
Thank you guys for trying to help.
I installed the RUU from fastboot and still... no recovery in sight. I looked into USB brick as well, but all solutions require a recovery mode - which I don't have. Also I don't this it is a bricked misch partition. But hell, what I know. I just bricked this *****.
After RUU I ran unrevoked again. all fine until booting the recovery: White screen and HTC logo. But at least I have root ;-)
Is it possible that there is something wrong with the rights? I tried:
r5-desire-root/fastboot-mac boot recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img
downloading 'boot.img'... OKAY
booting... FAILED (remote: not allowed)
Any clue?
Cheers

Try placing the 'recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img' in the tools folder of the android sdk folder, and then drag the tools folder into terminal and type:
./fastboot-mac boot recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img (to boot the clockwork recovery through fastboot)
or this:
./fastboot-mac flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img (to flash the clockwork recovery through fastboot)
Hope this helps some.
Tried this just now:
./fastboot-mac flash recovery ../recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img
sending 'recovery' (4216 KB)... OKAY
writing 'recovery'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)
./fastboot-mac boot recovery ../recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img
cannot load 'recovery'
Does this mean anything to anyone?
Thanks guys...
You are S-on, maybe running alpharev so that you are S-off can help you. But I have no experience with that. If you are S-Off you can use the fastboot commands to push the recovery.
It's possible that the stock RUU you ran earlier may have had an HBOOT update in it forcing s-off to change to s-on, causing the HBOOT to be overwritten.
I s-off'ed not too long ago (i know... i know... it does sound dirty ) and it is a risky procedure as it could end up bricking your phonr entirely if not done correctly. I'm am not certain on what exact procedure to follow on Mac, running Windows 7 here...
If you want to give it a try yourself, you can follow what is suggested in the following guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805811
This is what i did to security unlock my phone:
I ensured USB Debugging was enabled.
Downloaded this AlphaRev 1.5 HBOOT reflash utility (.iso file)
Important: Before starting this procedure, it is very important that you do not have your phone sync'd to your PC, as you should only connect the phone to the computer when prompted after the .iso is booted.
I burned the .iso to a bootable CD (you can also boot from a DVD disc or USB key).
Note: You may need to change the boot order in your computer BIOS to either boot from a CD/DVD or external device, like a USB key.
I rebooted my computer and booted from the CD I created, and pressed enter at the flashing cursor - you will know that you have successfully booted the .iso as the screen will display some Tiny Core Linux logos. While I waited, I powered on your phone but I made sure that I had not connected it to my PC via USB. After the initial loading, the screen will prompt you to press any key to continue. After this, I was prompted to connect the phone via USB.
Make sure you wait and only connect your phone via USB when prompted on your Mac. When you are ready, connect the phone via USB (while you are doing this, check the status of your phone as you may be prompted to allow super user permissions to continue). During this process, do not interact with your phone and just let it run it's course. Your phone will automatically reboot a few times during the 3 stages, so do not stop the procedure at any cost.
When it is done, go back into the Bootlader and at the top of the screen, it should show the AlphaRev text and s-off.
Next, you will need to flash the custom clockwork recovery here - http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-bravo.img
Then, simply follow and enter the command I posted above (make sure you place the recovery image in the tools folder of the android sdk folder, and execute the fastboot command via the Terminal) to flash the custom clockwork recovery from fastboot, and it should then hopefully get you back on track.
Let us know how you get on with this. I will keep my fingers crossed for you
Regards,
Mas.

I think these s-off supplied devices are supplied specifically for developers as developer phones... i think
I have seached similar posts but everything suggested thats works for everyone else isn't working for me.
So, I went and rooted my phone, but it wouldn't let me flash any ROM, so I went and done the good old S-Off, and it let me flash a ROM thanks to the good old updated clockworkmod. However, there was a fault, i couldn't hear anyone when I called out.
So, I then desided to try another ROM, to see if it would fix it. But it wouldn't install any, it wouldn't even reinstall the current one. Then I pressed format \boot (and the rest of the format options on the clockwork mod) (not sure why), and it wouldn't allow me to boot into anything but ClockworkMod which wouldn't let me flash.
So, having a generic HTC Desire, I thought to use an RUU to restore it (no goldcard), so I plugged it in, and ran the RUU and it DID recognise the phone, then part way through a hazard sign showed up on the right hand side of the loading bar on the phone, and at the end the application RUU on my pc showed an error [110] FIle Open Error and now my phone doesn't move past and HTC logo with a hazard sign in each corner.
Cant boot into recovery or fastboot or anything....
HELP!!
UPDATE
Used PC - Fastboot, but its stuck at the white screen with the HTC logo
I hope you have found a solution
(You had wipe all cashs, calvin before you flashed the new roms?)

If you still can get to fastboot, then there my be a possibility to recover it. RRU will run from the fastboot screen. Insert your goldcard (if you have one) to be sure that it will work.
If you're still S-OFF (you should be if you had an alpharev HBoot), you can flash a recovery through fastboot. You can use fastboot commander to do so (requires java sdk). Boot into fastboot (back button + power), plug phone in via usb, run fastboot commander and flash recovery. Then flash a ROM.

Hello All,
I am a newbie.
My Desire HD is not going beyond 'Quietly Brilliant' HTC logo. When I switch it on, it boots and stops there but does not go beyond it.
This problem started after I did the following for installing Cyanogen Mod.
Problem 1:
1. I followed the instructions in Cyanogen Mod for rooting.
2. First, I had to downgrade to Froyo as my phone was using GingerBread.
3. For downgrading, I followed the instructions given in Cyanogen mod site.
4. Everything went well - but the ADB Shell only displayed $ instead of # and the exploit given in above link did not work.
5. I managed to bring # prompt by following some other instructions from Xda-Developer forum.
6. After this, I once again followed the instructions in Cyanogen mod site to downgrade to froyo.
7. I was unable to push the PD98IMG.ZIP to SD card from ADB. So, I copied it via windows explorer and verified checksum to make sure.
8. Then I used ADB REBOOT BOOTLOADER and clicked BOOTLOADER to load PD98IMG.ZIP.
9. This step did not work correctly - it gave CID incorrect! Update failed error. (Problem 2 describes this situation better.)
10. At this point, I tried to boot normally into the exsting GingerBread. Initially it worked.
11. After booting and displaying the home screen, it was slower than usual and was behaving in a odd manner.
12. Then, for some reason, I enabled WiFi. Then the phone kind of rebooted or went to the HTC Quitely Brilliant logo and stuck up there.
13. After this, I rebooted/shutdown my phone several times using ADB and tried to boot normally. It did not work.
14. Only once, when I tried FASTBOOT USB by removing battery it went up to my homescreen and then again went back to HTC Quitely Brilliant logo
15. I suspected something might be wrong with WiFi activation and tried to switch it off via ADB.
16. I used this 'adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.android.settings/.wifi.WifiSettings" command and got " Can't connect to activity manager; is the system running?" error.
So, I am unable to use the phone because of above issue.
Problem 2:
1. When I tried to use BOOTLOADER and tried to load PD98IMG.ZIP, I got "CID incorrect! Update failed error" .
2. I understood this might require a GoldCard (this is not mentioned in Cyanogen Mod instructions).
3. I googled and downloaded this GoldCardTool.exe and tried with it to create GoldCard.
4. At this time, I was able to access my phone's SD card via Windows Explorer and it was visible in GoldCard tool also.
5. I followed the instructions for creating GoldCard using GoldCard tool but this did not work.
6. I still get the "CID incorrect! Update failed error" .
7. I chatted with some folks in IRC chat and was advised to remove HTC Sync and install other drivers.
8. I removed HTC Sync and installed the Google USB driver. Nothing changed but I lost my access to SD card from windows explorer.
9. I re-installed HTC Sync. Still, I am unable to access my SD card via windows explorer.
10. Also, ADB PUSH to sdcard never worked. It gives Read-Only filesystem error.
So, in short I am neither able to boot my phone in existing GingerBread nor am I able to downgrade it to Froyo. I am stuck with a useless phone.
Other tools I tried : SuperOneClick to Root the phone. Did not work.
Things that are working:
1. ADB commands and Shell commands.
2. Able to do FASTBOOT USB or ADB REBOOT BOOTLOADER etc.
3. Able to transfer files to SD card using Card Reader.
Things that are NOT working
1. Phone stuck up after 'Quietly Brilliant' logo.
2. Unable to Downgrade or ROOT.
3. Cannot push files to SD while it is inside phone.
4. Cannot start any acitivity on phone via ADB
I just want to install a custom rom or go back to Gingerbread. Could someone please advise?
Thanks in advance for reading patiently the above story.

When I execute ADB REBOOT BOOTLOADER or use that Vol -,Power button combo, it goes to the FASTBOOT or FASTBOOT USB mode and displays options like BOOTLOADER, REBOOT, REBOOT BOOTLOADER nad POWER DOWN. It also shows HBOOT version as "HBOOT-2.00.0027".So, I guess HBOOT is working...is this correct?

Yes I can get in to recovery by typing adb reboot recovery. until then the screen remains still in boot animation(boot animation gets completed, by completion of animation end screen remains as it is.) ROMs are NEOne V1.0, and two more ROMS did hang there exactly. Just feel little nervous to further flash custom ROMS from being bricked.

Not sure what is your issue. For me simply using the Hack Kit for degrading(for rooting purpose) solved the hanging problem. The degrading was initially unsuccessful but the hanging problem was solved.
I have since then rooted and so far intstalled MIUI 2.8.3/2.8.10/ 2.8.24, CM 7.2, Blackout ICS and Android revolution 6.3.3. I did not face this issue wiht any of these roms. I use this 4xt recovery and I understand that it is good to do a `Full Wipe`before installing any custom rom. In 4ext recovery ..for full wipe...I do Wipe/Factory reset, Wipe Cache and Wipe Dalvik Cache. After this, I install custom rom. I think you might be already aware of these things
Hi, I bricked my Phone (I can get access to CWM v6.0.1.9) whilst changing the Build.Prop file (which I know I'm meant to be careful with) I rebooted my phone and after 10 minutes it was still siting on the "Google" screen. I can get into Bootloader and CWM 6.0.1.9 but cant get it to display on my Laptop (win7) as I can't turn on USB debugging..
Any help? I'm stuck right now! It wont show up on ADB or Nexus Toolkit (I found a thread elsewhere with some links but couldnt read them as I wasnt a member)
Fast boot, flash factory image
do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
Or reflag custom ROM
I'm getting no response when typing in "Fastboot Devices" when I put "ADB Reboot bootloader" its saying "No device found"
If the device cant be seen Can I still flash?
to use fastboot you need to be in the bootloader, not recovery.
I've tried in the bootloader but nothing ever shows up? I havent seen anything pop-up on the bottom of my start bar.. Hmnn If I could get access to my USB/SDcard I could put a zip file to flash -_-
I'll see if I can get it to show up onn fastboot again
if nothing shows up, that means you dont have the fastboot drivers.
Exactly that's what I thought at first place. Forgive me if you find it way too basic but have you tried re-install fastboot drivers? (or even samsung usb drivers....u can also reflash your Gnex via Odin Mode...after all you've got nothing to lose)
I managed to get it working, It wasn't the drivers (I've been using them recently) It was the latest version of ADB/Fastboot I downloaded the latest version and its now flashing
If you can get into CWM like you say, just flash the ROM again. It should fix whatever changes you made to the build.prop file.
EDIT: Nevermind, I guess you got it working. For future reference, if you ever get to where you messed something up and you can still boot into CWM, a simple reflash of the ROM should fix it. Or always make a backup before you go messing with stuff that might ruin something.
...and as long as u can boot into bootloader, download, recovery mode device is usually nowhere near to brick
Ok so my 3 yo. son likes to play games on my GNex. I have not rooted or made ANY modifications whatsoever. He was in the middle of playing a game when it randomly reboots. He hands it to me on the google screen. It never boots. just sits. I have been from forum to forum. If i hold:
pwr + - volume i get the odin mode download screen. I have tried loading stock images through odin but it always gets to CDMA-Radio the very last step and hangs there forever (15+min.) battery pull.
pwr + + volume I get a black screen with a lock at the bottom. ( i have read that this means i have unlocked the bootloader but I have not, on purpose at least) battery pull
pwr + both volume i get a black screen. It kinda looks like the screen is on but just completely black. no fastboot mode. Battery pull.
the stock images i have found either do not work in odin or have broken links.
i am not sure if usb debugging is on like i said i usually dont mod phones. adb wont recognize. I just want a stock GNex back. Any tips tricks files or suggestions will be greatly appreciated and I have no problem donating to the cause
Also if i plug my phone into my pc and dont touch anything the battery symbol with the lightning bolt comes up. cant get rid of it unless battery pull. HELP!! :crying:

If you want to flash img files via Odin you must first create tar or tar.md5 packages. Download and install cygwin. Once u opened cygwin navigate to your factory image folder where all your img files are. (it's a good idea to make a copy of your bootloader-xxx-img and radio-xxx.img and to rename them to simple bootloader.img and radio.img) and use the following commands:
Code:
tar -H ustar -c boot.img bootloader.img radio.img recovery.img system.img userdata.img > name-of-odin-flashable.tar
md5sum -t name-of-odin-flashable.tar >> name-of-odin-flashable.tar
mv name-of-odin-flashable.tar name-of-odin-flashable.tar.md5
flash this newly created package under "pda" , and do NOT check re-partition!

Hi all,
Been having problems with my DHD for ages now - got myself a GS3 after a while so had kind of given up on it but now I really want to get it back to life as a backup (and for a temp replacement for my gf who got her phone driven over yesterday!). I've seen loads of similar problems to mine, but after searching here for months and following several soutions to one point or another, I always seem to get some kind of error that no-one else is getting and from there it branches off into new problems/methods. Kind of getting sick of going in circles so here I am asking for some DHD justice!
The problem is this:
A few months back the DHD started freezing/restarting intermittently (something to do with Sense I think, but tried the goldcard method of rooting it a few weeks before which failed, not sure if this could have affected things but it didnt seem to have any noticable effect for a while anyway) then eventually got either stuck in a loop on the carriers logo animation or hanging at the white background/green HTC logo screen. Couldn't get any further. Did a factory reset but the problem persisted. After a few weeks I came back to it and found that very occasionally I could get the phone to start up and get on the home screen. I can do a few things (like enabling USB debugging luckily) there but get DOZENS of notifications that various processes are failing and eventually the phone reboots or jumps to the HTC logo screen again. Either this happens before I can do very much on the phone or some process fails and nothing happens. So really I need a solution thats mostly PC based - but pretty much every program or command line operation fails to actually see the phone. I'm assuming here what I need to do it flash a new ROM to replace what I also assume is a corrupt existing one? I've tried RUU .exe type fixes - which don't see the phone. Most of the command line instructions fail to see the phone either. The phone isn't rooted so I'm guessing this would need to be done to flash a new ROM (a working version of the stock one would be fine for what I need it for but having a custom one would be nice). I've got nowhere with trying to flash ROMs as is (not rooted, S-ON), and also nowhere with various root/s-off tools. TBH I'm not really sure which stage of the process I need to be trying first. The other day the phone suddenly booted ok without the notifications and worked for around 6 hours before something made it reboot and return to the boot loop.
On the HBOOT screen I have the following:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.09.04.28_M2
eMMC-boot
Trying to boot into recovery just gets me the red triangle screen. Trying a new image from SD doesnt work as it doesnt see the card mounted.
Thanks for taking the time to read my tale of woe. Anyone got an idea where to start with this?

1. S-off your device
2. Use android flasher
3. AND easily flash flash recovery thorough this software....

S-off requires rooting it first, am I right? Not having much luck with that - HTC Quickroot claims its been done but none of the apps such as SuperUser are present when it reboots...
Suggestions anyone? efforts to S-OFF not working so far...:fingers-crossed:
You don't need to root if all you want to do is run a RUU. Are you trying to do it through ADB or fastboot? Is the RUU you're trying compatible with your phone's region?

I'm trying running the .exe file from the pc, I'm 99.9% sure its the correct region (3UK stock). It gets as far as bringing up a screen with a grey HTC logo while the PC says 'waiting for bootloader' before I get an error message saying the USB connection is lost (tried 3 different cables and there is no issue with faulty cables, or either end being unplugged, ). ADB doesnt see the phone as connected. Fastboot doesnt seem to do much as usually when the phone reboots as part of the process it freezes or goes back into bootloop. I've tried putting ROMs on the sd card and updating from the recovery menu but the phone doesnt see the card as mounted in this mode (when it does boot and run ok for a few minutes it does eventually see the card).
I'm confused. You have a recovery menu? Is your phone's bootloader unlocked?
Sorry, I mean the menu accessed through power on + vol down. No, tried unlocking it through the HTC site but no joy.
That's the bootloader. What procedure are you using for fastboot?
Via ADB commands - havent tried with fastboot methods recently though so I forget which particular guide I was using. I'm sure there are all kinds of noob alarms and flashing lights going off somewhere
You cannot run a RUU from adb. Only fastboot.
Where do I start with this then? I have the fastboot pc files installed already but didn't get anywhere, seem to remember the phone rebooting from a command and then just going back to the logo bootloop before it could progress - very possibly doing something wrong though.
Update: Tried the following:
Ran the RUU.exe until the wizard comes up. While the RUU wizard was open, found the temporary folder it created.Found ROM.zip. Opened it, extracted recovery.img. Put it in the location where Android SDK tools is installed. Booted the phone into bootloader, gone to FASTBOOT USB. Opened a command prompt, navigated to the folder with Android SDK tools. Entered:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
BUT still getting an error: "'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." :S

You need to change to the correct folder on your PC where your fastboot.exe file is, thats why your getting your error.
Why you trying to flash stock recovery? Unless I missed it, From what I can see on your posts your still s-on, so you can't flash anything like that from fastboot anyway.

The error you're getting is that your computer can't find the fastboot file. It's not an error from fast out itself. Open the folder with fastboot in it, shift-rightclick, and choose "open command window here." Also, I thought you were running a RUU, not actually using fastboot to flash images. If you want to flash stuff you need to unlock bootloader.

Yeah, I was initially trying to run the RUU.exe but that method wasn't working as I mentioned, so I tried extracting the rom it created and flashing that via fastboot.(Didn't know that shift/rightclick thing, thanks). As for s-off I haven't found a way of doing that without rooting, hence why I thought I couldn't get anywhere without rooting the phone first.
When I try and unlock the bootloader ( at http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/ruu-downloads) , it wants to update the HBOOT first, this is how far I get with the process:
"BEFORE beginning the Unlock Bootloader process your product requires that you update the ROM to the version listed in the table below first, then download the RUU next to it to enable the unlocking capability.
To install the RUU, simply follow these instructions:
On your phone, enable USB debugging. (From the Home screen, MENU > Settings > Applications > Development > Check USB debugging)
Connect your phone to the computer using the USB cable that came with your phone. Wait a moment for your computer to identify your phone, this may take a few minutes. After your computer has found your phone, double click on the RUU to start the process"
I get as far as bringing up a screen with a grey HTC logo while the PC says 'waiting for bootloader' before I get an error message saying the USB connection is lost (so exactly the same problem trying to update the HBOOT as trying to run the RUU.exe) so I'm not sure how I'm going to unlock the bootloader if this method isn't working - direct .exe method doesnt work, and the process I need to unlock the bootloader so I can flash via fastboot doesnt work for the same reason.
Have you tried booting into bootloader and choosing fastboot before trying the RUU?
Yep. Same USB connection error despite having 'FASTBOOT USB' showing....
Type "fastboot devices." What does it say? Do you have your drivers from HTC Sync installed?
Hi all, had the phone working ok for a while, it wanted to do a software update which froze at 12%, however after cancelling it the phone seems to be problem free. Dont really get this as surely the incomplete update wouldnt take..? but something must have changed. The phones been ok for over a week now although I havent rebooted it or let the battery run flat...still dont trust it entirely!
