I am currently running CM7 RC4 and for some reason when I try to use Clockwork recovery to do a backup, it just boots into RA recovery. Can't seem to get it to go to Clockwork recovery. Don't really care about that as I mostly just RA for flashing anyway, but I always used Clockwork for nandroid backups.
My question is which items do you typically check to do a nandroid backup with RA Recovery. When you go to backup, it defaults to back up Boot, System and Data. Do you have to back up the others as well? (cache, recovery, wimax, sd-ext and .android_secure)
I check everything except sd-ext. I don't use other forms of a2sd so it's not necessary for me because
cm7 has native a2sd. Everything else is backed up for sure. Try reflashing in rom manager to get back your clockwork recovery if you haven't. Update your rom manager in the market that might fix it.

It says rom manager is current. How do you flash clockwork when you are in RA?

At the top, click flash clockwork recovery. Or flash it via PC36IMG.
When I flash Clockwork recovery thru Rom Mananger and then reboot to recovery, it goes to RA Recovery

Take off the -1 in the name, then place on the sdcard, and boot into the bootloader, apply update, reboot, reboot into recovery and you'll be on clockwork.

okay so i am rooted, and am running cm6.1 stable. i usually use rom manager to do my backups and everything which puts all of my nandroid backups in clockwork mod, but when i am manually flashing a new rom i use amon ra recovery because its much easier to wipe dalvik and cache and whatnot. however after i flashed a rom my recovery is stuck in amon ra so i cant get into my nandroid backups, clockwork mod wont reflash through rom manger, and im stuck,
pleaseeeee help.
I rooted my phone back in December/January and installed the visionary rom on my Bell Desire Z. I've since wiped my pc hdd nad since I haven't done anything in a while relating to root, I've forgotten a lot. I have a few simple questions regarding the instructions for installing the CM7 rom.
It says to do a Nandroid backup. I'm assuming clockwork will work for a nand backup just as well right?
How do I wipe it? Use the factory reset data in settings? Will I have to reinstall clockwork recovery and titanium backup? Will I have root it again?
I'm getting the info from this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=956227
It also says to optionally install the google addon. What is that and where do I get it. I was also looking at baconbits with CM7 in Clockwork. Is that what enables overclocking?
A nandroid back up is created within clockwork mod, which can be accessed by going into recovery manually or through rom manager, which will be already present in many of the roms you'll flash.
One you're rooted, no need to reroot. All apps usually get reinstalled automatically.

What about wiping it? How do I do that?

When you're doing an install in Clockwork, it prompts you for doing a backup (Nandroid) and also asks if you want to wipe your phone and cache.
Ok, thanks a lot. I've done a Rom install through Clockwork before, but that was awhile ago.
So I'm having problems installing it. When Clockwork asked me to wipe and backup, it would just restart on me. So I went into Clockwork and told it to reboot into recovery mode and I made a back up and wiped my data from there.
Now when I try to install a CM from sd card in Clockwork it just reboots...thats it. I updated to Clockwork 3. It says under current version it's 3, but at the top of the screen it still says 2.5. How do I fix this and install CM?
Edit...I tried clearing the download cache in clockwork and then when I tried to install rom it showed as a zip file. I added the G-app zip to the CM zip but it still rebooted.
Reedit : Installed the zips manually...got repeating android on skateboard and wiped both options in recovery mode and now it's ok. Thanks for all your help.

I think you might be getting CWM and RM confused; when you boot into recovery, what color is the text, orange or green?

I have a mt3g slide. I origanally rooted it and installed cm7 but for some reason put and diff rom on that was a 2.1 hero rom i think... but i cant remember what i did but I rebooted and now have 2.1 update 1 stock, but i installed turminal emulater and checked that i still have root.. and i still do. I installed rom manager and superuser but superuser doesnt reconize rom manager, which means no install of clockwork mod recovery and that means no way to get back to mc7..... someone please help me
do you have s-off on it? also you can get into recovery if you have s-off and flash a CWM recovery, if you didnt do that you can still use the update.zip method to get into cwm recovery
i looked on my sd card and i dont have a update.zip file just my update_cm7.zip file
Ok you can get it in koush site should still be there if not i can post it if needed
http://mirrorbrain.cyanogenmod.com/cm/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-espresso.zip
rename it to update.zip and put it on sdcard and should boot into cwm recovery
after you have all setup upto way you want take consideration to get s-off then dont have to worry bout it and completely flash cwm recovery one phone
ok downloaded it and just put it on the root of my sd card. should i just boot up using power and down vol. then boot into recovery?
Lol yea do vol dwn and boot into recovery then choose apply update.zip, make sure thats the only update.zip in sdcard and its named update.zip
thanks man, ok im in clockwork mod recovery v2.5.0.7 right now, can i just install cm7 right now?
Uhh i wouldnt see why not since you still have su, but do a nandroid just incase of any issues or something
nandroid
then do
wipe/factory reset
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache too
then go ahead and flash cm7
oops didnt nandroid but i dont care ill just do a back up on rom manager
thank you very much
So are you up and running cm7? and glad to help out
yup all working just fine, but i cant seem to find the market app?
ya i am all fine except there is no market app?
OoO Lol you didnt flash the gapps? gotta flash cm7 then gapps then boot in im sorry i thought you knew that
http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/gapps/gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip
http://goo-inside.me/gapps/latest/7/universal/
so i should just put on sd card, go into file exploorer and then back up rom?
proper way is to put on sd card, and do another wipe, and then flash rom then gapps and all should be good for you
which wipe should i do...
-wipe date/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
wipe/factory reset
flash rom after rom is flashed flash gapps then reboot ! and will have market and gmail and everything else as well, also if you want swype back i suggest sign up for beta right now while its still open
https://beta.swype.com/android/create/
thanks does the wipe/factory reset reroot it?
No, it jus wipes the current rom and its data, so you can flash a new one, it doesnt mess with the root thats there if you already rooted before
thanks ok just did that and i am rebooting hope it works... thank you very much
I just installed Synergy but when I went to flash theme I got a amend script no longer supported in Clockwork 3.0 recovery . How do I fix or is there anotherway to install theme? I was able to flash carousel but not theme. Thanks!
Switch to Amon_RA recovery.

So to switch to Amon recovery I can just flash in recovery right. Do I need to do anything else? Thanks!

Just wipe the cache and dalvik before flashing. And if you didn't want to use amon_ra, you'd have to flash an older version of clockwork.
Well every time I flashed the InfectedRom Eternity (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071547&highlight=eternity) it won't ever load past the white HTC Evo 4G boot screen and I have no idea why, I have wiped everything correctly and still nothing. Any ideas as to why?
What hboot do you have? It comes baked in with anthrax that doesn't work on ENG hboot .76

I am using Clock Work Mod Recovery v5.0.2.2
CWM is notorious for giving problems with flashing Roms because it doesn't properly wipe; I suggest you use Amon RA now just in case you might have recoveries already with CWM then try this Here it's an Amon RA recovery that can also flash CWM recoveries

So what your saying is use Amon RA? And I do have back ups made from CWM, so which one of those would I use and if I use one those in that link you said I will be using Amon RA just be able to use my CWM backups?

Download this one HERE move it to the root of your secure digital card and rename to PC36IMG.zip and flash with bootloader, once you have done this successfully go to recovery and then to restore you'll have the option to flash CWM recoveries

Okay thanks, I will give this a try, but shouldn't I use a supersonic version?
I have installed it, and it looks so much better than CWM. So everytime I want to install a new ROM should I just choose wipe all data/factory reset or what should I do?
You always need to wipe all data/factory reset, cache and dalvik cache when flashing a new Rom... I personally got into the habit of wiping all of those at least twice just to really ensure I get the best performance for the new Rom
