I ran into this one day and then again today. I know vol down+power is hboot and vol down+trackpad+power is fast boot, so what is vol up+power?
When I did it the phone vibrated 2 or 3 times and the orange LED started flashing. It wouldn't power on, fastboot, hboot, nothing until I pulled the battery (with it unplugged). So what exactly is it doing when I press that combo?
Just curious.

The thought on what that might be is an unknown utility to communicate with the qualcom chip set, no ones really sure how to use it or what it can be used for, but it only becomes active if you have radio S-off thru the use of GFree.

Well that's interesting... very interesting. Far beyond my level to even attempt to figure out how to utilize it if that's what it's actually doing. Still though, it would be neat to put some effort into messing with it to see what we can use it for, obviously only for those extremely knowledgeable or with large disposable incomes.
Its for factory jtag, problem solved
The G1 has something similar commonly refered to as "blue light mode" which is used to bring bricked G1's back from the dead.

Do we even have the JTAG printouts for the G2? Would be nice, then we could really mess with this phone since we could bring it back from the dead. Seems like we're only scratching the surface with this thing.
I recently was experiencing my phone auto booting. When i take out the battery and place it back in the phone it automatically restarts without me pressing the power button... this happens also when i use the power button to shut down. The only time it doesnt reboot is when i have the charger plugged in. I have no idea why this is happening, i wiped and reflashed my rom (mexdroidmod, its awesome) and it continued. I then rewiped and flashed osimood and the autobooting was still there... help?

it might have to do with timing. if u take ur battery out and put right back in mine reboots but if i leave it out for more than 5 sec it stays off. idk bout power button.

Sadly i left my battery out for a hour and when i placed it in again it reboots..... this doesnt affect my phones performance i am just terrified that its a sign of worse things to come... (came from the dreaded bell galaxy s with its sd card issues.... never getting samsung again.... )

I have the exact same problem. I just realized yesterday. It's worth investigating.
Sounds like it might be a hardware issue. Power button might be broken. Maybe? Now I've I have read you posts again I'm not sure if it is or not.
I also have this problem, just found it out.
When I power off the phone it will shut down, and then boot automatic.
hmm interesting i thought it was only me and noone else becuase no other person posted this issue ever lol think i should make a poll in the general section for people to try this since many people may have it without knowing...
I am not sure about the power button... it still wakes the phone up no problem.
ill probably make the poll this.

GREAT NEWS!
as posted by edkeys in cm7 nightly thread, drain your battery to 0% and let the device turn itself off completly dead, plug into charger and let it charge ~4 hours or until your light turns green. unplug charger, phone will boot, load up your rom, power down, AND IT STAYS OFF!

It doesn't work, phone turns itself off.
Plug into charger and the phone boots...
It might take a few tries. I had to drain the battery 3 times and then let it fully charge for about 4-6 hours. On the third time trying it, it finally shuts down without auto rebooting.

Just pulled it for the 6th time.
It doesn't seem to work.
A friend at work just updated ota with charger connected and phone is now dead. Is there a fix?
Have never come across that before, try this thread:

Hope you get it working.

No response from power button or power+vol down. Looks like its going back!
Can you charge it up or just no response? Similar happened to my mate but it worked ok after he left it charging overnight.
Try connecting it to laptop via usb.. See if it power ons. If not, w8 for some time, try again. Does the red light light up when connected?

Litteraly just done this to my phone!! what i done, was unplugged it, then held down the power button, it restarted a few times then started working again!
There was no response when holding down the power button but he connected it to his pc and left it connected. No lights or any sign of life so he went out but left it connected, when he got back it works again! This phone is weird. I don't like not being able to pull the battery to fix major **** ups.

True. Luckily I did and mine works fine. Hopefully he's learnt his lesson now, I doubt it though!
Hey, I got a HTC One X today and used it for about 2 hours, and after going into location settings the phone froze for a while, then eventually it switched itself off. I couldn't get it to switch on, and when I connected it to the charger, I noticed the LED was no longer lighting up when connected to the charger.
So I done some reading, and heard that if you hold the power button for 10 seconds, its basically the same effect as pulling the battery on other phones. So I held it for 10 seconds and the phone booted up, it got the the lockscreen straight after booting up, when I tried to unlock it, I realized that it was frozen again. Then after a while it powered itself off again, so I tried to power it on, once again it was not working. So I tried holding the power button for 10 seconds, this time its not working, no matter how many times I've tried it doesn't work.
The phone wasn't rooted, I never done anything to damage it, I read that if you hold the power and volume down it will go to the bootloader, where I would be able to factory reset the phone, but even after hold those 2 buttons, still the phone is showing me no sign of life.
What should I do?
try to put in under charging, is the led red?
if it is, wait 10-15 minutes and try to go into fastboot with power button and volume down, and do a factory reset, or fist you wipe all your things try again to boot it up, maybe it was just without battery charge. is your phone new? or it's secondhand?

The phone is second hand, but condition wise its practically new, there's doesn't seem to be any damage, and its still under warranty, the seller said that he never had any problems like this.
When you says "put in under charging" do you just mean charge it? If so I have done that with both the computer and the AC adapter, and the LED is not lighting up.
remove this post plz

Try plugging the phone into your PC via the official usb cable,
I know you've done that, but Whilst it's plugged in, press volume down & power at the exact same time and keep them held until your bootloader screen shows.
The good news is, I've had this happen to me - i just kept trying.

Tried this, didn't work, tried again to be sure. I can't believe I have such a nice looking phone infront of me and it won't even switch on.
Some people say leave it connected to your computer for about 10 mins, so I'm going to try this now.

Yeah, I you should be leaving it plugged in.
Next step is to get Android SDK installed on your pc, even though it appears to not come on, you might still be able to run a fastboot charging script that will force your phone into its bootloader.

I have SDK installed, used to use it for my G1, not sure if things are the same for the One X. But what your saying kind on sounds promising.
I will look around to see how I can force that, or do you already know how?

Update your packages on Android SDK
place the fastboot charging script in the same folder that fastboot is located on your pc
Usually: C:/Android-SDK/platform-tools
Double click the script
I have the script, it but won't let me share it to you.
It's on XDA though somewhere.

I'm looking for it, but I can't find it.
Doing a search for "fastboot charging script" doesn't find me much to do with it.
Would you be able to upload it to mediafire, or anywere else?

Ok, downloaded, and tried it now, but it only says waiting for device, so I guess its ain't being detected at all in this state.
The phone was connected for about 30 mins now and still the LED won't come on.
Leave the phone connected to the charger for a few hours. If it doesn't want to work, try pressing various combinations of volume and power buttons. Otherwise I suspect you have a brick.

I left the phone connected all night last night, and still the LED didn't light up, I tried every combination. I don't think its a brick because I wasn't doing anything at the time, and the phone wasn't even rooted.

Mine doesn't blink at all.
The thing I notice aswell after leaving it charge all night, is that it doesn't even get slightly warm. I can't believe HTC get away with releasing faulty crap like this. I had a 2 hour teaser before this started... Good job HTC.
Edit : Oh well, I gave up, I tried everything and anything and it wouldn't work, so I've sent it to HTC for repair since its still under warranty.
Edit2 : It took them a while, but there finished repairs now, and its on its way back to me. They replaced the Mainboard and the battery.
hello..just for sharing,.just now i woke up from bed and see that my phone cannot turned on.. you know what, during charging last nite, i forgot to off the screen(press the on button) so that my phone screen was kept turning on all the night,,.. i'd try to connect it with the charger but it still didnt work.no LED at all. after i read the comment from some of u, i decided to connect it to the PC .. fortunately, the red LED came out..
after wait for sometimes it was turning on..but sometimes can turn off back... its because of the bttery.. anyway, im so happy now.. hahha
Flashed Lifeless last night. Everything was working fine, left the phone charging at 10% then today I wake up to a dead phone. Wont charge, wont boot. Only sign of life is holding the power button down for like 20 sec and the battery LED will turn on for like 20 sec but only if its plugged in. What gives? Anyone have any idea what might be going on?
Plug into a 2 amp charger or do a battery pull.

Same thing has happened to me! I have done a battery pull as well with no avail. I am using a 1.2 A charger, the one that came with my phone and still nothing. I can get the red light as well but nothing else. I have pronounced the Phone as DEAD and have already bought a new phone(funds are tight so it was a was crappy situation). If ANYONE has a real working solution to this PLEASE tell us!(I'd greatly appreciate it)

Similar situation
I'm on stock but had the same problem. Phone totally discharged, plugged it into my car charger, phone got hot by camera but did not charge. Got home plugged it into stock charger, same thing. Battery charging on screen, phone hot, then dim light on screen. tried for a day or so, no luck.
Tried holding power button for 20-30 seconds, nothing, Vol up and down + power, nothing. By accident held power and vol up and charging light came on, held it for a minute, and it stayed on, let go, out it went. As a last resort, put two rubber bands around the phone to hold in power and Vol up and bingo! Charging light stayed on! left it overnight and found the phone completely charged in the AM, green light flashing. Been working fine for days, Willnot let it get too low of a charge in the future.
