Picked this thing up from Amazon for right at 100 bucks shipped. It comes with a bracket that allows you to use it with a case (although it does not specify which case) still on the tablet. It sure doesn't work with the Motorola case that I have which I believe is the standard hard case that transforms into a stand.
Pros:
Sound quality is amazing. Really took me by surprise

Docking is not as easy as it should be, but not nearly as difficult at some of the reviews on Amazon say. Line up the dots, get the right angle and it drops right in.
The angle at which it sits in the dock should be adjustable but its not and its pretty steep
I imagine Bose will come out with a $199 or more version, but I don't see the sound surpassing this one by much if any.
Overall i'd give it an 8 out of 10

I don't get any more than 720p through HDMI port on the XOOM itself and I'm uncertain whether that is even normal operation. I imagine this limitation still persists with the HD dock too? Been curious if Motorola locked the output to 720p in software. Then when it detects it is connected through the HD dock, 1080p output is enabled?

This is a little prototype I am working on called soundark.
The whole concept behind it is based off of a amphitheater how its shape allows the sound to bounce off and be directed to the audience.
the soundark has ho need for batteries or power source it takes the audio emitted from your phone and directs it towards you. I hope to make them more solid but for now its just a prototype but eventually I plan on making them for other phones but for now the first one is made for a vibrant and other galaxy s models

Pretty cool. I like the design. I know this would work well, because I find myself cupping my hand over the speaker to direct the sound in front of it. I can imagine something designed specifically for that purpose would have a lot better sound, and it looks great too.

I like the idea, however the way you have the multiple ways to place the phone in (horizonally and vertically) is kind of redundant. An idea would be,to place the spot directly in the middle and have the middle pane rotatable. Just my 2 cents great idea though

At $35, wouldn't it make more sense to buy a set of portable, rechargeable speakers to plug into the headphone jack? I've bought a couple of such things for my employees for $20, which sound great, even in a loud warehouse.

It does seem a bit pricey, but I like the idea of having an accessory that doesn't require another damn cable/adapter. At this stage a lot of unanswered questions, particularly how good the speakers are and how much a hit on the battery life it'll make, but I'm definitely getting this if the reviews are good.

hmm...under the description it says that the power is generated from the battery, which means the sound dock does not charge the SGS2 while plugged in and playing music.

Are you sure? In the Clove description it says:
'This dock is compact and has a sleek design along with an in built Seine acoustic amplifier and built in spakers.'
Just look at the picture
There is no usb input, just a little hole where the S2 Speaker is.

There is a very similar universal sound dock which a mate uses with his iphone.
Basically it ust amplifies the sound. Its a piece of engineered plastic which uses no power.
If this is the same then i wouldnt bother.
Cheap pair of PC speakers would be way better IMO

I bought a cheap 20 Euro VR headset and also the Homido VR headset which cost me 80 euro and I ended up selling the Homido! simply because the screen is placed way to close and it's horribly pixilated which I was soooo disappointed about :crying:

The Homido VR did have better FOV and overall was of better 3D quality due to it having nice Optics for it. I would go for something like I showed you but find something with good lenses for an overall better 3D experience ^^

I got a cardboard V2 and it works very well
I picked up the View-Master goggles (like Cardboard v2 but plastic construction) when they were on sale for $20 a week (or so) ago. I'm using them with my Zenfone 2 with good results.
A couple thoughts though:
- I'd recommend Bluetooth headphones with this - the headphone cord will be pinched by the closure if you are using wired. You can also hear the built-in speakers through gaps in the case, but you lose stereo effects.
- It is a bit heavy on the nose - I find it is more comfortable pushed up higher on my face.
- They are really cool & I do recommend them.
I went through (and discarded) a few movie apps before settling on "VRTV free". Some of the others had more difficult controls and didn't seem to get the spacing right for the 3D effect (very obvious on text where it was "double vision" instead of 3D). VRTV has a virtual theater mode for 2d movies and then 180 & 360 modes for 3d files. It also has a "re-center" command which is important since I am getting some gyro drift (in fact I came here looking for some sort of calibration app).
Last December I retired the Fire Phone because the wife dropped her and shattered the glass. We found the cost to repair it was more than it was worth.
That plus we had a problem with Straight Talk over billing us and they essentially telling us to suck on it, no refund. We dropped them like a flea bag hobo and went another carrier and upgraded to LG V10s.
Anyhow, my Fire phone has been gathering dust until the idea of using with a VR headset hit me.
Only issue was FireOS no support Google Cardboard.
Solution was Rooting and now it is running Cyanogen very nicely.
So, ANYONE out there using their Fire phone (4.7" screen) with a VR headset?
I looked online and there seem to be dozens of brands out there. I would just like to hear about anyone experience and with what brand.

Aww, come on. We are not talking about a VR setup to compete with the Occulus Rift, or the HTC Vive. The headset is 25-30 bux for these.
Yeah, higher resolution would be idea of course, but this is a spare phone and there is no reason not to at least try it. My current live phone is a LG V10.
That has a huge display and high resolution. I will try this one also to see what it looks like.
I've been using my stock Fire Phone with Google Cardboard, it works fine, has some issues with 360 videos and Youtube but that problem was easily solved with a 3rd party youtube app. You can see the individual pixels, 720p works fine but it's not ideal. The performance is actually better than my old HTC One m7 which is 1080p. Cardboard is fine but it's nothing special and doesn't come with straps to secure it to your head, I'd recommend trying a different brand.

I was able to try it this weekend on a generic VR headset. The make was VR BOX if that makes a difference. I saw 3 or 4 on Amazon the exact same thing with a different brand; anyhow, what I really dislike was the narrow field of view. I switch to my LG V10 and which was a big boost in image size, but still the field of view was bad.
You could see the phone at the left and right of the image. I would say the actual image size was about 60% of the view, and this will not provide anything near a nice VR experience. For 30 bux, what the heck. But it wasn't 30 bux worth. Sent it back for a refund.

Yeah I probably should have mentioned in my response that the novelty of VR wore off very quickly and I never really use my Google Cardboard. If I hadn't gotten it for free I'd probably be trying to get a refund too.

"It's like a dream come true": It has a great software experience, far superior compared to the one in the G7 ThinkQ. Apps open faster and it's more fluid in general.
LG still hasn't disclosed whether this phone will be released globally or not and at what price, although Canada is a confirmed market. One thing is certain: in the words of LG, this is a midrange device. Expect to be priced accordingly (400-700 USD)
Key differences between the G7 One and G7 ThinQ:
* The most important difference is that it runs stock android, since the phone is part of the Android One program. This means that it'll get 2 years of regular updates (Android 9.0 Pie update is confirmed for all Android One devices) plus 1 year extra of security updates.
* Another difference is its design and build. The G7 One features a black matte glass back that is much easier to grip as well as aluminum sides that match the rest of the body, instead of stainless steel sides like on the ThinQ.
* It only features the regular 16mpx f1.6 camera, not the wide angle one and the camera app doesen't have manual controls either. On the bright side, images have a lot less image processing in comparison.
* It has a Snapdragon 835, rather than the ThinQ's 845.
* It has 4 GB of RAM instead of 6 GB.
* It doesen't have wireless charging.
* This version is running Android 8.1, whereas the reviewer's ThinQ is still running 8.0.

Interesting. That's less than 430 USD. It seems that currently price is flowing between 400-600 USD.
If it's not too much to ask, could you do a quick review about the phone? Namely about things that the reviewer didn't cover such as battery life, quad DAC, speaker performance, etc?

I've had the phone for about 2 weeks now. As for battery life, I cant complain. But I'm a light user. I'm getting a full 2 days of use between charges. Where I can provide some useful feed back is the speaker and dac. For the speaker, i would compare it to an ipad, maybe a little louder. It does fill a small room quite well if all you want to do is have background music. I'm an enthusiast "audiophile" so i wont be using it for this much, but its good to get the kids dancing and such. Obviously there is little to no base, but it does get surprisingly loud.
Ok, for the DAC, this surprised me. Its drives my 50 ohm HD558's with ease. The soundstage is broad and clear allowing you to listen to each instrument independently. There is lots of definition in lower frequencies. A really great listening experience. Its like having one of the DragonFly, or FIO, etc. USB DAC/AMPs built right into the phone. Plus, so far im only listening to 320kbs spotify downloads. It supports flack, etc. For someone who listens to lots of music, this is a very nice surprise. I was expecting some "bass boost bull****" but no, this is a legit DAC for listening to music the way it was recorded. For fun, I plugged in my HD6xx and its clearly not powerful enough to drive 300 ohms adequately. But no phone or normally priced ubs dac/amp can. So for the 435$ CAD i paid, i feel i got some great value here given the phone's performance as a music player.
Other thoughts, screen is great. Colors are good, viewing angles are great. Nice and bright. Back is a little slippy for my tastes. Camera app right now is bare bones, reds are over saturated but it works just fine. No "portrait" mode but thats coming apparently... If you want photography, get a DSLR. But if you XDA guys can get the google camera working on it... that would be nice Its plenty fast at opening and navigating apps.

I'm really tempted by this phone. I can have it on a Koodo tab for 360$ which is a good deal.
I'm looking at the MIA2 as well, but this phone seams superior in almost every spec except the storage.
The only thing that makes me hesitate is that the xda forum is almost empty :/
I've had a weird experience with my LGG3 also (It was great for the 1st year and then it became really unstable, and network was always disconnecting), so i'm also a bit hesitant towards LG.
After multiple weeks how is the battery life ? and the camera ?
I get 24-hour battery life through my average use. A couple of phone calls, lots of browsing, some YouTube videos. Not sure of the SOT, but coming from my 3 year old Moto X2, which was never great at 2300 mAh, this LG 3000 is much better.
Can the bootloader be unlocked easily? LG phones typically don't make it easy for Canadians, not sure if Android One changes that for this phone.
