My phone is rooted and I wanted to install a rom and theme. What steps do I have to take in order to do it? Thanks

The instructions are generally in the first post of the thread with the download. But typically you put the zip on your card, boot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, install zip from sd, then reboot.

If you are new to this and not know what booting into recovery is, then you will need to flash clockworkmod. Clockworkmod is used to do all the installing and wiping as k_nivesout mentioned
You can get the clockworkmods from http :// dougpiston . com/?page_id=85
Just rename the file to PB31IMG.zip and place it onto your sdcard, boot up into HBOOT and update when the system prompts you. (it will automatically find the file and ask you) The file has to be on the root of the sdcard, not in a folder.
once you flash the clockworkmod, then you can go into recovery and wipe data, cache, davlik and factory reset. then install your ROM (place the ROM.zip file on SD card and navigate to it)
make sure your rom matches the clockworkmod version you have, otherwise you will end up with amend script errors

Hi 2 all!
Before somebody claims - I read and searched the threads but I was not able to flash a new rom.
My envoirment:
Win 7 X86
HTC Desire (rooted)
8 GB Memory Card (I copied the new rom in the root directory and named it update.zip)
I tried rom manager (the non-paid version):
I don't know which menu (after my device rebooted) should I take?
applying sdcard update.zip?? (I selected this, bus no new rom..)
I also tried the fake flash method:
Error Message: signature verification failed.
Now, please can anyone tell me how to flash to a new rom?
br,
Chris
Edit: Solved: The zip file was corrupt
Is your handset branded? What rom are you trying to flash. Have you rooted your device? Because it needs to be rooted to flash 99% of the roms available here.
..no, its not branded; its also rooted.
So what rom are you trying to flash? You should be able to flash one if your handset is rooted.
If you use fake flash don't rename it but put it on your sd card root. Then in the menu go to flash zip from sd then choose the rom. Just before you flash make sure to select wipe data, cache etc.
why did u rename the rom?...once in the custom recovery it should not matter what the rom is called...from the menu u just select flash zip from SD then select the rom from the list

...somewhere I read to rename the rom the update.zip.
Now I am following this link: http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-htc-desire/
I am trying the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705606
Will whipe date/whipe cache clear my memory card?
Will any other action clear my memory card?
br,
Chris
Ok so that rom should be fine. Do not rename it.
Wiping cache/data etc will only wipe data form the handset. All your memory card will be still intact. Only repartitioning the card will wipe it so back up any data first if you ever plan on doing that.
If the error is signature verification failed, re-sign the ROM.

I used simpleroot and rooted then flashed recovery
downloaded the latest rooted .6 version of the OTA update
I copied the .zip containing the downloaded ROM.
Do I just boot to the recovery (I chose the RA one) and flash the ROM from there?
This is slightly more involved than flashing a winmo phone, so I'm proceeding with caution.
I'm at Android system recovery <2e>
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
You're correct. There should be a menu option for choosing a zip from your SD card. You should do a data wipe, cache wipe, and dalvik wipe first, then choose the new ROM and let it go. Back up your stuff first, it will all get erased!

I did back my stuff up...
Now I'm having trouble getting back to that recovery screen I'm at the screen with the red triangle with the exclamation mark.
What do I press to get those options back?
I keep getting the cant open cache/recovery/command
Do I need to use the PC for any part of this?
You may want to boot into your system and install ROM Manager, then flash ClockworkMod or re-flash Amon RA from there. Can you boot into your system?
Also, at the red exclamation screen, I think you have to push power + volume UP to get into recovery, but I'm not sure. Seems like that was one of the middle steps when I did my rooting, during the period that one of the custom recoveries was on there before I flashed ClockworkMod.
When installing the new uppdate ViperX 3.3.0 - can I do a full wipe and install that or do I need the former versions first (3.2-3.2.4)?
I´ve had problems flashing numerous times but finally got it on the phone and then made the 2 other uppdates ota to 3.3.2 but when I´m in the venom tweaks and change the max cpu to 1300 and changes back to 1500 after a while and sometimes after reboots.
I checked the ticker "aply settings on boot". Sometimes the min cpu freq also changes by itselfes to 1300....
The "mount system r/w" ticker also never stays checked....
I´ve had problems flashing, it only worked when I didn´t do a full whipe on the 3.3.0 version.
Sometimes the flash crashed after 10-15% and sometimes when the flash was ok and finished I ended up on the white htc logo.
I did this:
1: Move the zip file to htc in my download folder.
2. using winrar, get the boot.img file - moved that to my Boot_Flash_Script folder.
3. Go to Bootloader
4. Connect htc one x to the pc - fastboot usb
5. In the Boot_Flash_Script folder - dubbelclick on the flash-boot-windows file.
The boot.img flashes ok and also the cache is cleared.
6. unplugg the htc and go into recovery.
7. Using Aroma Installer I wipe cache, wipe dalwik cache and (maybe this is wrong) wipe System.
8. Then I click Install - find the zip file and excecute that.
9. Choose the stock kernel.
10. Full wipe.
11. flashes.
Then it sometimes crashed at 10-15% or flashes ok and when i hit "Reboot" it hangs itself on the white htc logo.....
This also happened when I tried to flash Icecoldjelly…
What am I doing wrong?
Noooob-thanks,
Nothing really, but download the latest full rom and check the MD5 number, flash the boot.img again and do a full wipe in recovery....
Wipe cache partition
Wipe data/factory reset
Advanced - wipe dalvik cache
Mounts & storage - format cache, data, system
Just to be sure and then install the Rom.zip. choose in the aroma for a full wipe again and continue....the question about the kernel you answered correct with NO.
the mhz option probably doesn't stick because there is only a stock kernel available, we don't have custom kernels yet ....
When wipeing and factory reset, does it erase anything on my sd-card?
It shouldn, right, since its on sdcard0...?
Even with a factory reset it shouldn't erase nothing?
Nope
Great.
Thanks!
So after flashing the boot.img, go into recovery and basicly wipe everything except external storage?!
Under "Mount" there are 4 tickers : Mount System, Mount Data, Unmount Cache, Unmount SD Card.
Unmount Cache & Unmount SD Card are checked....
What to do there?
And then just flash the Rom, Full wipe in Aroma, chose stock kernel and that should do it?!
I will quote myself ! Do NOT touch the mount stuff only touch the FORMAT stuff
And ofcourse you do NOT format sdcard !!!

Flashed the boot.img.
Wiped everything and did a factory reset then flashed the Rom and it worked.
Think the factory reset did the trick - the only thing I didn´t do before.
Thanks!!!!!!!!
Finally !!!
Hi everyone I am the biggest fool in the world. Today I installed one app thinking that it is a game. Unfortunatelying it turned out it is a virus which installs milo ons of apps and spams with adds no matter what I am doing with my phone. I have tried to factory reset my phone but it is still there, then tried to wipe cash and wipe all user data from the recovery but it is still here.. I've tried to use my phone without Google account but the virus is there. It is in my system and I don't know what to do. Anti virus software can't find it and I don't know what to do.
My phone is note 2 it runs 4.4.2 kit kat stock Rom without root access. Thanks in advance
Reinstall stock using odin and download mode
And btw that virus have already rooted your phone without your permission and injected itself into your system directory, so no matter what you do with your current rom through wiping will be useless!
Good luck!
Inatall TWRP and wipe everything with rm-rf ON. Flash Stock or any other ROM after, it should be gone.
Hi again, i decided to root my phone and install custom rom. I've chosen rom "one and only V3" i've rooted my phone and wiped everything cache, system, data, preload, dalvik cache, factory reset, partition. Then i installed the rom, everything was fine but phone stucks on bootscreen at the Samsung logo and cannot start, i've done all the procedure again but nothing changes. Then downloaded other ROM but now i can't connect my phone to my computer when i plug the cable and click on Mounts and storage then on mount USB storage, nothing happens i can't see my phone and i can't upload another rom.. Thanks in advance.
P.S. The author of the ROM has given this installation information:
Installation Instructions for v1.0 & v3.0:
USE TWRP RECOVERY
First Nandroid your current ROM.
1. Download ROM
2. Verify MD5
3. Place the ROM in your internal/external sd card
4. Reboot to Recovery
5. Wipe system, cache, dalvik cache, data, preload if applicable,
6. Flash the ROM
7. Reboot and Setup Device.
Note: With root file manager, go to /data/media/0 and delete folders that begin with the name "vrtheme
I am using CWM recovery v6 and i don't know what "First Nandroid your current ROM." and "2. Verify MD5 " means..
1- First Nandroid your current ROM = make a backup of your rom that you are using
2- Verify MD5 = its a unique number and litter for Verify that you are use the same file that the maker uploaded
I know I saw this process in a recent thread but I've misplaced it. If anyone can point me to it, I would be grateful.
I want to clean flash CM 13 on my OP3.
From what I remember, I'm supposed to store the CM 13 zip file and gapps file in the SD Card folder. Is that truly correct? The OP3 doesn't have an SD Card though I did find a folder.
If I do a factory reset and wipe everything, won't that folder also get wiped? Then how would I install the ROM from the phone?
Sorry, I know this is a straightforward process for many of you, and dirty flashing is easy. But I think a clean flash is better and I'd rather not guess and end up with a bricked phone I have to fuss with.
Again, I know this exact process is in a thread somewhere but I can't find it.
the phone storage is /sdcard/
u can use something like ES File Explorer and create a folder called CM13 or whatever u want
u do have ur bootloader unlocked and twrp installed, correct?
yes u will just the get cm zip file and put it in a folder (ex. /sdcard/CM13/)
i put the gapps in the same folder
create a nandroid backup
wipe/advance wipe - wipe caches/data/system !!!!Do NOT WIPE - INTERNAL STORAGE OR OTG!!!
then flash cm zip and gapps
Hi, thank you. Yes, bootloader unlocked, twrp installed and I've done it in the past on a different phone but couldn't sort out clean flashing from dirty flashing. I've done it correctly in the past, and it's also gone very wrong for me. I think I mistakenly wiped internal storage once and that was a disaster.
Somewhere I've also read about a factory reset through trwp.
I don't need to do that, or wiping caches/data/system is the same thing?

If you wipe internal storage, you will lose the zips for your ROM and GAPPS. You can connect your device and have it recognized on your PC from within TWRP if you do accidentally wipe your internal storage.
Factory reset doesn't wipe the system partition as that would remove your OS. Most Roms will wipe your system partition before it installs itself so generally you don't have to wipe the system partition manually, but it's good practice.
Clean flash = wipe dalvik, cache, data; then install ROM (which will wipe system before it installs, or manually wipe system before the ROM install for good measure).
Dirty flash = flash ROM, then wipe dalvik and cache. The only time you should do this if the ROM you're looking to flash says it can be done (ie. CM nightlies).
