Hi,
I have my contacts stored in Exchange.
I have - obviously - also a MOTOBLUR-Account that Motorola forced on me upon activation that I do not intend to use and a google-Account for the market.
Now, when I create a new contact on my defy, I can not choose wether to create it in MOTOBLUR or Exchange or have it in my google account, it is automatically created in all three and all three sets of data are joined together.
So as I only want to have the Exchange contact, everytime I create a new contact, I do have to un-join the contacts and delete the MOTOBLUR and google contact manually.
That is in my eyes a mayor design flaw.
I do NOT want my phone to store my data in some suspicious cloud service that has been forced upon me in the first place.
Is there a way to create a contact specifically in the Exchange and NOT in Motoblur / google?
Or would I have to use a different contact manager app? Any recommendations then?
That also allows me to query the global adress book of Exchange (which the standard app apparently can't).
I'd be grateful for any tipps and help,
southy
I've been bothered by this issue too. It would be the most intuitive to be able to select in which account(s) a contact should be created at the time it is created.
But there is a different way to accomplish similar, but it's a global setting. In Settings->Accounts you can specify which items (contacts, calendar, e-mail) are to be synched with a given account. Well, for all BUT the MotoBlur account ;(, and because it's a global setting I have not yet examined the full ramification of it, and it's a kludge; what if one would like to synch some of the contacts with all accounts, but others with just one or two, but it's at least something.
BTW, I have not tried other paid (some are quite expensive) Exchange clients, but the free ones don't come even close to the Email app that's included on the Defy. If you find one that may be worth spending money, let us know.
Hi,
thanks for your feedback, that way I can at least disable the google-Account completely (which is only configured for the market access).
That leaves motoblur.
Regarding the Exchange clients: Yes, I would actually be willing to pay for one, but have yet not found one that really satisfies me.
I have tested Touchdown (from nitrodesk) for some time now but didn't buy it:
In general it was pretty good, there's just one problem: There is no way to deactivate notifications (new mail) at nights. As I use my mobile as alarm clock, I can't turn the sound completely off and so it tends to wake me up with new mail at night.
That's really annoying.
Actually it's pretty strange that they didn't implement something that basic - as there are very unusual other notification settings. The whole configuration in fact is somewhat overwhelming because sometimes you can configure the same thing on more than one location.

Maybe because I'm on the T-Mo USA 2.2.1 ROM, but in my Email app, when I'm entering letters into the <To> field, all matching names from the Exchange Address Book are being dynamically displayed. Not the same as browsing all of the Address Book and choosing one address, but good enough for me (I work in a relatively small organization). Doesn't yours do that?
Hi,
thanks for your reply,
I don't use the standard mail client any more. I stopped using it rather soon after I bought the Defy.
I just tried to figure out why, but sorry, I can't remember. But I remember that it was a rather important reason, because I started trying TouchDown as first alternative client and TD is such a pain to configure that it took me days.
I must have had a damn good reason to stick to trying.
But you are aware that there is a difference between personal contacts I store in exchange (which are synced with the mobile) and the global adress book of Exchange?
The global adress book is the complete dictionary of a company, AFAIK normally connected to the Active Directory-Accounts of the employees, which is centrally managed.
You can not sync it to your device, you can just search in it and pick a result.
Could it be you mixed those up?
Thanks anyway,
southy

You are welcome, and no, no mixup. In the <To> field, if I press the <search> icon, it gives me the list of my contacts (stored locally on the phone); but, if I start typing into the field, the Global Address Book (on the Exchange Server) is dynamically searched and displayed as I type.
Hi Mars,
thanks for clearing this up and sorry I suspected you to mix things up.
Good to hear the stock app can use the global adress book - I never tried that before switching to another client.
However I guess I might completely revert back to the original app soon in order to get rid of all alternative clients - I tried TD and wasn't convinced, now I got Moxier installed and suddenly my contacts don't sync anymore - no idea why.
It seems I should just stick with the preinstalled stuff even though it's not good.
Or perhaps get a blackberry.
ups. Did I really say that?
Touchdown is brilliant - been using it for long time. the BEST!
With reference to the original quesition; when you create a contact you CAN chose which cateogry it should go in. In contacts, chose settings and uncheck the cateogry you do NOT want the account to go in to. This way you can uncheck google (or multiple google accounts). When you create a contact it will not be assinged to a google category and therefore not sync with online google contacts
Of course touchdown keeps its contacts seprate but the above is very usful for your own personal contacts. I have all sorts of sync going on and am very confident that ONLY the info i want on the internet goes to the internet.
Motoblur: I dont use it - never have. You canbypass this at setup time.
Ref sync: worth playing with settings > accounts and also contacts > settings - very useful
Hi jeanluc,
that's interesting - I just realised i had never actually created a contact out of TD, but always out of the stock "contact search" app.
Sorry for judging too quick.
However, after 20 mins of using TD contacts, I can't say I like it.
but whatever. I just tried generating a new contact and it worked and got synced to exchange.
But when I open the stock contact app, curiously enough, the contact has not been present for ~30minutes - apaprently TD maintains a second adressbook apart from the builtin which has only been synced later.
Well I seem to have lost the overview what syncs to what here...
But back to the point, you are completely correct, when I generate the contact out of TD, it only is being created in Exchange and nowhere else.
However - and please, please forgive such ignorance - I have just tried that and find it so very un-intuitive that I will keep on searching for a decent contact app.
This is my comments after only 15 minutes of trying TD contact:
Problems with creating a contact:
- the adress fields are not labeled. where goes the street, where the city, where the postcode?
Problems in TD contact in general:
- seperate contact database apart from the built in
- no pictures of contacts are being displayed
- search function not as quick reachable as stock apps
But there's also a plus:
- searching in global adress book (Exchange) works and even returns a phone number, not only the e-mail.
one last thing:
Ref sync: worth playing with settings > accounts and also contacts > settings - very useful

"contacts -> settings": I am searching for such a settings dialogue the whole time - but I can't find it (to check how and when the stock android contacts sync to my exchange - as this is apparently a seperate thing apart from TD sync).
But I can't find those settings. I only find "settings -> accounts" but there I can only define the user credentials, not the sync process (frequency, manual trigger,...)
Can you point me to the correct place, please?
Thanks!
Settings for sync of built-in adressbook with Exchange:
found it!
Overview:
If you just want to sync contacs (& calendar) because maybe you do not use the stock mail client for Exchange, you need to:
1. settings -> accounts -> <your corporate account> -> uncheck "e-mail"
2. messages -> message settings -> e-mail -> mail delivery
Yes, it sounds strange to configure the adressbook sync in "messages" as I did deactivate that account for e-mail before, but apparently that's the way it is...
Maybe you should flash Orange of Finnish rom, that doesn't have blur registration at all?

Hi Southy
I dont actually create contats in TD as these are work contats and am happy for them to be pushed down from outlook/exchange which Im using constantly
I love TD - it does everytihng that I need
I also Android contacts for personal information and manage to keep that isolated from the internet.
I sync my personal calendar wth internet (google) as it doenst contain anything confidential but i suppose if you wanted to you could stop that at the calendar level but still allow another google calendar to sync - that way you view both google calendars on the phone but only one syncs (for this you need to enable calendar sync in settings>accounts but disable calendar sync for the specific calendar in the calendar application
Note: Worth rememering that a lot of sync software (missing sync, TD etc) will create an account on the phone which is accessible via settings>accounts. Always worth checkign whats created here and what functionality it provides as far as modifying sync is concertned
NOTE1: Are allyour questions answered now or are you still waiting for something?

Hi all,
I'm using WM6 on my backup device, the XDA Orbit and have a few annoying niggles. Can anyone advise on the below?
1) I have 2 hotmail accounts - one personal, one business. I would like to have visibility of both in my messages window. To my knowledge, I can only use one at a time and have to switch accounts via Windows Live each time I want to view emails. Is there a way you can have both?
2) I can't seem to syncronise the new folders on the POP3 account I have. Is there a way? It's an O2 account. When I create a new folder on the XDA, it doesn't show when I log in via webpage & vice versa.
3) I'd like to be able to edit the caller display when someone calls. When a contact information is filled out in detail (i.e company, job title etc.), some of the information appears on the incoming caller display bubble. Ideally I just want the name, number and photo. Possible? Fussy I know
4) In WM5, you used to be able to turn WIFI on AND off via the GPRS icon (next to the phone signal icon/speaker/clock). In WM6, it seems you can only turn it on. I know it's lazy as the Comms Manager in the 'System Tray' is only a few taps away but is there anyway to resurrect the WM5 functionality or provide a link to a 3rd party app/plugin?
5) And finally...I'd also like a bluetooth plugin on the system tray for quick access - any links?
Thanks in advance,
GW
Q1 - 2 live mail accounts can be done by setting up 2nd account as POP3 but apparently you need a yearly MSN subscription to be able to use this. Will just make do with the one account!
Q2 - Been advised to set the account type to IMAP4 to be able to sync new folders although this doesn't seem to work with an O2 email account. Can live without it though.
Q3,Q4,Q5 - Appreciate these will require registry changes - does anyone know what strings/values to edit?
Q1: I have my hotmail via a outlook plugin called httpmail. I guess it would work also with two hotmail accounts.
Here is a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=225779
Thanks, will check it out.
re: Q2, I don't think the sync can be done on POP3 accounts. Under Messaging > Account i.e. O2 > Tools > Manage Folders, when you click & hold on the new folder that's been created the only options are 'New Folder', 'Delete' or 'Rename'. There is 'Folder Options' but it's greyed out. There are no tick boxes next to the folder like there is for syncing a folder in the Windows Live account.
I've given up on Q4 but I'd really like to fix Q3 if possible, surely just a small registry change required there...just a case of finding what to edit! Anyone help with this?
230 views - come on, who can rise to the challenge of finding a fix for me
Just to summarise question:
is there a way (registry, 3rd party app. etc.) you can edit the details on the incoming caller display bubble. For example, when the 'company' field data is entered on a phone contact, it shows under the name & number when someone calls. Ideally I just want the name, number and photo, no other info.
Is this possible?

Hey All,
Had the desire for a couple of weeks now and I must say I'm impressed with it, as most of you are as well.
I've come across the following very irritating problem though:
My primary e-mail address is hotmail. Been using it for years and years and I've never had the need to change to gmail. Having switched to android now I understand that I can't sync the phone to hotmail. I have it working on pop which is 'fine' but I want proper syncing of mail and calendars which is not supported.
Fair enough, I thought this was the time I'm supposed to switch to gmail. When I booted the phone up for the first time I was asked for a gmail account for google maps, etc. and I just used one I had created a while back. Now that I'm looking to migrate to gmail completely in order to benefit from syncing, etc. I want to change this e-mail address to another gmail one.
Has anyone managed to do this without doing a factory reset on the desire??
I've tried:
i. Changing the gmail password from a pc and rebooting the phone - it just says it failed to sign in and prompts for the new password, won't let you change e-mail address though.
ii. Clearing all cache's from google related application - gtalk, gmail, maps, gapps, etc. - This doesn't work either as somehow the account information is still held.
iii. Creating a secondary e-mail address and try get everything to use it instead then remove the primary one - didn't manage either. I changed google maps, gmail and the calendar app to use the new e-mail address but it still won't let me delete the other one as it says it's being used by some other app!
Any help would be much appreciated... I really don't feel like going through a factory reset and installing everything again!
Thanks!
Go to "Menu" - "Settings" - "Accounts & Sync", tap on the Google account en tap on "Remove account". (Go back to all accounts and you can add a new Google account.)

On this subject, my advice to anyone is to get their own domain name and then use Google Apps for Domains.
At present this is what I do for my email, but if in a few years time something better than Gmail comes along, chances are I can repoint my domain to a new mail service and thus keep my email address in perpetuity.
Regards,
Dave

Forgot to mention I tried this as well but it won't let me remove it as it says the account is being used by some application
Really frustrating!
I got this same problem as this old post, but can not find the solution....does anyone know the answer as time has moved on and maybe it is an available solution.
My issue is that I just flashed LeeDrOid 2.3b&c to my Desire. I entered my HOTMAIL e-mail details as the first address at the set up prompt. Now i can not findout how to delete that account.
It seems that the whole Android E-mail setup and operation is not really as good as Windows Mobile! or its operator error ;-)
For my Sync'd HOTMAIL I'm currently using TouchDown and set the server name to 'm.hotmail.com' this thirdparty software allows full syncronisation to my Hotmail account both ways including any folders that i choose, apart from the deleted bin on my Webmail does not get emptied if i delete all from the TouchDown application on my Desire.
On my Gmail i have created my account in the Exchange option and used m.gmail.com for the server, whilst this gives me a view of all the account folders all of them show "no mail" even though i have set the Receive days to 30 days and know that I have e-mails in the folders that are newer than 30 days old.
I really would like a fully operational integrated IMAP set up for both my Gmail accounts (i have 2 account) and one HOTMAIL account, ideally using the built in Gmail and "standard Mail" programs that come with FROYO Sense.
So anyone know the answer to achieving this?
i) How to delete my original Hotmail account entered on start up of my new ROM.
ii) Is it possible to set up withing the Sense builtin applications for Exchange Gmail and also for Exchange Hotmail so that i can do away with hte TouchDown application?
Thanx for any assistance on this.
I am synchronizing the Desire's "PC calendar" with MS Outlook through HTC Sync.
However i see, that the custom ROMs based on Froyo (Android 2.2) don't include HTC Sync, as they are ported from Nexus One.
Is there any alternative solution for syncing the Android calendar directly with MS Outlook ?
For security reasons (my company doesn't like to post internal, including confidental , data on Google and making it in fact a public information) i can't use these methods:
- sync Outlook calendar with Google calendar directly through internet
- use Google calendar instead of Outlook calendar
- sync Desire calendar directly with Exchange server
Does anybody else have this issue ?
I don't understand why Google hasn't already addressed this issue. May be they don't wont to see the Android in corporate environment ?
In your situation I don't think so.
I had a problem syncing with Outlook but discovered by using Google calendar you can skip the outlook sync and have your calendar whenever you are when you log on,

As i wrote, i need to synchronize with the Outlook calendar in my work.
I can't really force may company (including all the 50.000 employees worldwide) to use Google calendar instead of Outlook calendar (MS Exchange).
There is no way to sync the Google calendar with my Outlook calendar, for security reasons (confidential data is sent in the Outlook invitations). The whole Google calendar is blocked in my company and i can't even connect the server (for security reasons).

The stock mail app has native Exchange support - or you can use Touchdown which is more feature rich. Google doesn't need to be involved - it's a secure (SSL) connection between your phone and your company's Exchange server.

As I mentioned before, the company Exchange policy doesn't allow direct syncing. For some reason only the access over https://owa.company.com/... is working.
Direct access from Android to OWA Exchange server doesn't work (some ambiguous error appears, probably the Exchange server prohibits this kind of connections at all).

I have tried Exchange for Android 2.0/ 2.1 from NitroDesk, Inc. and after much struggle it was able to detect correct settings for my corporate Exchange.
Apperently i can sync all the folders now (i am not completely sure, as i have played with this soft only for few hours), read email, sync calendar, private folders, notes etc.
It's only a 30 day trial, i hope the official Froyo 2.2 from HTC will come before the trial period expires and then i could use the updated Mail application with extended Exchange capabilities delivered by default in Android.

2. I have in the contacts submenus. How do I sync those?

Regarding your first point I think when you are in your contact list and you press menu then settings you can change that (don't have my phone at the moment so can't check it on mine)
I have looked everywhere. I am not able to find in the menu the possibility to rearrange the sorting on lastname. This is perhaps somewhere in the general setup.
Can someone help me?
By the way, I purchased The missing sync. But this is to be discussed in a completely separate thread.

I use outlook 2010, (it's great) and I am not having this issue, the only place I can change this setting is not in my phone but in outlook 2010, go to file>Options>Contacts>names and filing>default "File As" make sure is says last, first
hope this helps
I am using Outlook 2003. The file is set as you have described. All my contacts are arranged in Outlook on the last name.
Perhaps there is really no way to get this arranged in Desire/HTC Sync. I could not find anything in the manual concerning this item.
Many thanks for your effort.
Just got my phone back today, but unfortunatly I'm not able to find the setting anymore. (you can change the display form of names frome first name last name to last name, first name but you can only do that when you edit the contacts name, which is way to much work for all your contacts)

Ditto!
Do NOT go for missing sync. Its very unprofessionally run and full of bus.
Ive had the product for about 6 months and they havent been able to fix my issues. Originally I had problems on Xperia X8 in that my contacts were being removed form the PC when synchronising.
Logged the issue with MarkSpace (which by the way appears to be a two man outfit). I would get a reply every so often to say a new version has been released and I should try it. When askign if the new version was actually a fix for my issue i was told no and that I should 'jut try it'. Good job I backed up my outlook data file first as it deleted my contacts again.
Eventually decided to change my phone and now have a different issue; missing sync is preventing google synchronisation. Also the contacts on my phone which were written to the phone from PC do not synchronise if I edit them. Not only that but if I edit a google contact on the phone that too does not synchronise with google.
These people dont seem to care that there are real users in the field with real data. Once again Im told to 'try the new version' - same result. Problem not fixed
Missing sync would have been better of 'Missing'
Hi all,
Just wondering what you guys use to keep your contacts in Sync with multiple devices (PalmOS, WM6x, Android)
Personally now I use Google Apps Contacts, however Google Contacts lacks some features and it doesn't sync fully some extra fields.
Before I started using Google Contacts, I was using a mix of several applications like SwitchSyncEX and other alikes.
so i was wondering if there are some sort of apps for Android that can do cross platform contact sync-ing keeping all the fields, instead of chopping off whatever it doesn't understand (Google Contacts)
i would like to know this as well as I'm in the same boat (palm desktop, outlook/wm 6.5, and soon to be android)
I keep my master copy of contacts in Mac OS X address book which syncs with Google Contacts which I then use from remote devices (iPhone, Android, whatever)
I keep hearing about Plaxo, no idea if it's any good or available for Android.
I've used GooSync earlier. It did the job, but then you are still dependant on Google Contacts, which seems to be where you're missing some features.

i like google contacts, is great, but it's missing features i got used to since PalmOS and WinMobile
i keep using both my old HTC Athena and SGS i9000, so Google Contact is the best one out there at the moment, unfortunately those extra fields from Outlook doesn't get sync-ed over.
and or if i create them in Google, there is no way to map it back to Outlook.... it's a bummer
Try mIQLive.com
Had all my HD2 Contacts, etc., synced with Exchange Server. Go to above Site, Download & Install the App on your current Device.
You can then upload all Contacts; Calendar; Texts; Call Logs; Bookmarks; Photos & Videos onto their "Cloud" server
Then on the new or 2nd phone, Download & Install the App. Sign in using the same Credentials. The mIQ Cloud Server will then Sync all of the above items with your new Device
I've used this recently to Sync up both Windows and Android Phones. Runs in a very similar manner to Dropbox, if you're familar with that for File Sync across mutliple PC's
Two other nice little bonuses IMHO
a) As the mIQ app runs in the background on your Phone, it maintains a "Push" type connection with your phone (not too dissimilar to a connection to Exchange Server) This will then automatically Sync New Texts; Photos; Contacts and Call Logs onto the Cloud Server for access thru a PC
b) This same connection allows you to send & receive Texts on your PC Browser, with the phone remaining in your pocket the whole time. Very handy at times
I should emphasize that BOTH my HD2 and Galaxy have their "Master Sync" with Exchange and I haven't noticed any abbreviations on the Outlook Contact Fields to date. And I use Outlook Contacts extensively for adding extra Contact Info etc. Your mileage may vary though!!!!
Oh and by the way, this is Free. So, hard to beat the price!!!
but google does that already for free, why i'd switch to a paid service when it does the same thing?
1) First of all, the mIQ Service is FREE, so no harm to try it
2) Secondly, mIQ is a “Live, Constantly On” service, so any Contact Changes; Texts; Call Timer Logs; New Photos etc. Are automatically backed up to the cloud. Handy in the event of disaster. Gmail Backup is far more intermittent
3) Thirdly, Google does NOT offer Auto Backup of the following items (which mIQ does)
a) Call Timer Logs (handy for business logs, if that’s important to you)
b) Photos, Files & Videos Backup
c) Browser Bookmarks (as far as I know)
4) Fourthly, Google Sync does NOT allow the feature I described above, of being able to Send and Receive Texts from your Desktop, while your phone remains in your pocket
If you run two phones (as I do) it can be very handy to move from one phone to the other and know that a new Bookmark you may have added on one phone; or a Text you may have received is Automatically on the OTHER phone by the time you pick it up. All happens within 10 seconds or so
now that sounds much more interesting, i'll give that a go
You can also try syncfriend Also free
sync
I use funambol sync, 90 days free on WInmo and free on android.
So I made a sync on my winmo to the funambol server and then when I got the SGS I installed Funambal and synced the contacts back to my SGS.
For me it worked fine!

As far as WinMo 6x and android devices are concerned, no need to buy any third party app. This is what i do. The only pre condition is that your primary server should be gmail(google) not hotmail. Then all you got to do is add gmail server as exchange server in WinMo device. Thereafter both WinMo & android will always be in sync simultaneously.
Hi,
This might seem strange but I would like to configure my Z1 in such a way that Google knows at least as possible about my life. If possible, I would like to use only Gmail and nothing else from Google.
Recently, I activated sync for the first time because I wanted the state of mails to be the same on my phone as my computer which came with a number of unwanted side-effects:
- I got an error message that the number of contacts to be deleted was too large. I immediately said cancel as I did not want to delete contacts. Moreover, I do not want that my phone contacts were copied into my Google contacts. I see no reason why I would store phone numbers in my Google contacts, I only want to use Google for email. Clearly, it was too late: all the phone numbers are now also stored in Google contacts -- information I did not want to share with google.
- my complete calendar was copied in Google Calendar. When I started using the Z1, I deliberately choose the standard Calendar from the Z1 as I do not want that Google stores information about my calendar and find it very, very uncomfartable that my personal Calendar is now data stored on a Google server.
Is it possible to get rid of Google Calendar without losing Gmail?
Is it possible to limit sync only to mail itself?
I would appreciate any advice on how I can maximize my privacy while keeping my phone "smart".
Try to ask Munjeni in his thread about his privacy guard rom his is a master of privacy

Just open your Google account in the settings menu, under the sync options uncheck everything but Gmail. That should stop sync of your contacts, people, calendar, chrome etc...

Leave sync off, it only eats battery.
Just remember to press 'refresh' when you open the Gmail app. You won't get status bar messages about your Gmail, but if you check manually couple of times a day, then you've saved yourself all the syncronisation agro.
I had the same problem with contacts and I didn't want all my email contacts ending up listed as contacts in my phone, as it makes sending group texts impossible, it kept defaulting to sending MMS instaed, because some contacts were email addresses. Grr.
So I made up another gmail account, that's blank, has no contacts. Then I log into the phone with that and let the phone set up with that account. Once it's done all the syncronising I added my real gmail account, but set to not syncornise. I just manaully sync when I open the Gmail app, saves all the problems.
There are a couple of apps that can help.
Afwall+, which is a good firewall. You can set which apps use your wifi and which apps use mobile data, or just stop apps dialing out altogether.
There's a mention above of Privacy Gaurd, but it's very basic and I'm not sure it works with 'system' apps like google. I would recomend DonkeyGuard, it's by far the easiest and most comprehensive way of regulating what apps see what information on your phone. To make it work you will need to have a rooted phone, as well as having Xposed installed. But if you are serious about your privacy, then you know that it's worth the effort.
To have Google unaware about your phone contacts and calendar you need create contacts/events as device contact/event, not bound to Google account. There is setting for that, make it default.
First time I wanted separate google from my personal data I deleted google account on my phone as no other method worked, I lost all my contacts as by default they were assigned to google.
I was better than that. I had backup, restored contacts as device ones.
From this moment I have my info private (hope so, possibly information leaks in background but it is over anyone's head, some things are deeply hardcoded in OS then you can do nothing).
Sometimes you HAVE to give Google some information.
There is Xposed module which provides FALSE info in such cases. Sufficient solution for me.
Unfortunately it doesn't work for native applications (not sure about it).

Thanks! I unchecked everything except Weather and news, GMail and Google Drive (I backup some important but not very private docs there).

Thanks! I see indeed that when I create an event, I can choose the account to which the event is assigned. Google is standard for the moment.
Where can I set device account as the standard for contacts/events? I do not see such an option in the settings of Calendar or Contacts...
Also, it appears that I cannot change the account to which an already created event is assigned to.
Is it possible to move all created events in the Calendar from Google account to device account?
My phone runs on the 14.4.A.157 official build -- it is not rooted and I prefer to stay on the official Sony release channel.

1.
Not sure. It was long ago. Cannot find now.
Maybe it will help you if I tell that I froze GoogleBackupTransport.apk, GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk, GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk.
2.
I did it in such way:
a) made backup.
b) deleted google account from my phone.
c) defined acount again.
d) configured it as don't-synchronize (somewhere in synchronization settings).
e) restored contacts from backup. At this point I was asked if i want restore them to my google account or to device. I chose the latter.

Thanks, that seems a very attractive approach as it does not involve re-entering things manually.
Did you perform the backup and restore with Sony PC Companion or did you use some other tool for this?
Does this mean that you also have the option to restore all events in Calendar and change the account to which they are assigned to as well?

No. In fact I do more than one type of backup.
You never know what will really work unless you try.
I used native Easy Backup app and exported contacts to file directly, there is such option when listing contacts.
Don't remember what else but you can find tons of applications of this sort.
I could restore calendar, too.
I think if you freeze apk's which I mentioned earlier - even Google will not be able to pull your info because will have no tool to do it.
If you want to delete your contacts from Google Contacts, you can go to https://www.google.com/contacts/, you can also export contacts to pc/phone
Well. Myself I am convinced that once they got information - they will keep it forever, you only will not see it.

I think the same too.
In fact it is lost case.
Security agency can compile information, add together Google info|Facebook|Twitter|LinkedIn|Microsoft (Skype) | phone number which I had to give Google | biometric passport photo | fingerprints required for passport and hell knows what else, DNA maybe.
Conclusion:
They know when to send you toilet paper because it has ended and you didn't notice.
