[Q] Notification LED is red only - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Howdy all,
I've been having a bit of a strange issue these last few days. I'm thinking the LED might be on the fritz. I'm not sure I can be bothered reverting to a telstra rom and sending in for warranty over a blinking light, but if I could fix it myself I would be wrapped.
I awoke the other morning to find my phone had no led showing. That's weird I thought, is it still plugged in? Sure is. So I did'nt think too much of it, until it did it again the following morning. I've since downloaded blink and tried a few different colors, and it seems only red is working. If I test with blue or green the notification doesn't flash at all. It will flash when red is selected for test, it also flashes when yellow and when purple is selected, though the color is the same as when red is selected, so it seems it is stuck on one color only. Can anyone suggest anything at all I might try. I had a poke around in terminal emulator in /sys/class/leds or whatever it was to no avail.
Is my notification led dead? Seems odd, thought they were supposed to live forever.

Figured I would give this one one last try. Anyone have any idea at all? Issue has persisted across multiple roms. I think its stuffed

White notification led

As of today I am having a problem with my htc desire, For a reason unknown to me the notification led now continuously emits white light (it now turned blue). It even continues to emit white light if i hook it up to the power grid, causing the normal "orange" charge light to be a lot lighter then before. And it also thinks quite often that it is connected to a headset, when not connected(i don't know of the two are related) Tried rebooting it twice, removed battery. What else can I do and did anybody else have similar problems? (I have a NL htc Desire, updated to software: 1.21.405.2, unrooted)
Did you try a hardreset ?
If you mean by hard reset, the return to factory settings in settings no i did not. I first want to see if somebody knows a solution in which i don't lose all my apps and settings.
Called HTC customer service today, they told me do a hard reset as well, so now did it. Did not solve the problem.

Blue notification led Problem

Hey everybody,
I have a problem with my phone. The blue notification led is constantly on. However I never tried to get it working, I just on day picked up my phone and it was on. I have a completly stock android device, so I don't know how it happend.
I've sent it to HTC to repair it, but they completly screwed up. First on my ticket it mentioned my problems i had with my phone (it also continously thought it was on a headset so didn't use the speaker and mic of the phone, that is now fixed) However a few days later it said symptom not available, but i figured since it was on there before they should have it. Well got it back after two weeks (was done after a week but they left it lying there for a week :S) And saw on the repair form they sent with it that they didn't have symtom available when they started testing, during the testing they found that the sound wasn't working (they aparently found it not odd that a blue notification led was on all the time :S) and as repair it said: Device is returned unrepaired :S:S
well the sound is now fixed so I can at least use the phone, but the constant blue led still annoys me. I now have tried to fix it by flashing this generic rom: RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
but that didn't solve it.
Can any of you please help, I don't want to loose my phone for another two weeks?
I know that one of the developers has developed a program which allows people to use the led (and also send him a pm, but no reply yet), so maybe there are some other people which also looked into it which can help me.
Sounds like a defective mother board to me. Maybe a solder isssue with the circuits around the LED. Take it back and demand a new device.
Update: Just re-examined the package they sent it in and found out that they apparently found moisture damage and hence it is no longer under warranty. I never got it wet so wtf.
Edit update 2: Just installed the desireled programme of chaosR and noticed that the blue led that is constantly on on my phone is less bright then when i toggle the blue led on.
No one else knows anything?

As suggested before, it sounds like a fault on the board, which could have been caused by moisture damage. There are tiny moisture stickers inside the device that change colour when exposed to moisture. High humidity can cause these to change colour when exposed for a period of time.
I can see two moisture stickers (one on battery and one below it on the motherboard) and both of them are still white.
Use the adb or terminal emulator to disable to blue led. U will find it somewhere in the desire android development somewhere
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I tried that first turned it on with:
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/leds-microp/leds/blue/brightness
It became brighter then before
Then i typed
echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/leds-microp/leds/blue/brightness
And it went back to the way it was (so not completly off)
(i used better terminal emulator for this)
Just out of curiosity, what is the blue LED meant to show? Never seen it on my Desire.

It isn't supposed to be on ever. That is the weird part about it. Someone else also noticed that they had it and they wrote a programme to use it: see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700418&page=1
but I never used that app or tried to get the blue led to work and therefore it is so odd that it is on, constantly.

more advanced then these i did not see in there
It definately sounds like a hardware fault; the only way to fix would be to return it to HTC. Did you ask them why they said it was water damage - even though the paper strips are still white?
not yet, guess i will do that today, but I'm not expecting any useful info, will probably be along the lines of we have our ways of determining that.
Called them today and they sent me the following picture, but the quality is kinda crap. And the picture could be of just any phone, but yeah i guess they would not do that or they would have a lot of complaints.

Just for the fun of it, run echo 0 on red, amber, green etc also. Does it darken even further or same?
You might also check if you've got other control directories by running "find | grep leds" with su. I've got it, but the other dir does not control anything.
My two dir's on DeFrost 1.7c ROM.
Code:
[B]/sys/devices/12c-0/0-0066/leds/[/B]* (red, blue, amber, green)
/sys/class/leds/* (red, blue, amber, green)

Looks like water/rain or something has entered the headphone socket. If its a short on the pcb which i am sure it is, you will not be able to fix this by tweaking the LED settings.
So i have good news and bad news. The good news is my blue led notification led is off (although i have no idea why, it just happend) However, the bad news is that my other problem is back again, my cellphone thinks that it is constantly connected to my headphones, so no sound and no microphone without plugging in my headphones so my phone is pretty much no phone
It is clearly short circuits on your motherboard. The only solution is to get it repaired as suggested previous. The longer it is left, the more corrosion will build up!

After the latest handcent update, the default setting on the notification led is set to continiuos blue. Just go to handcent settings -> notification settings -> blink led/ colour led, and set your desired settings.
I don't if this will help you, but it did it for me

Issues with notification LED...

Has anyone else noticed the LED not notifiying correctly ? The first 2 days I had the phone it seemed to work perfectly, now the notification will not show until I wake the phone with the power button, to find I have had emails, messages for some time. I know many do not use or care about the notification LED, but it's a must for my situation - I can't always grab my phone and wake it to see if there is a message or email. I have not really changed anything in the power/notification settings since I set this phone up. I tried reboot etc...
No nothing like that here...
Tried a Factory restore??
Maybe a recent app who is interfering
Mine does this quite a lot. The notification light is not reliable. I received two emails this morning and it didn't flash at all.
Other times it flashes for a bit, and then stops. I've had this problem over multiple different ROMs and installs so I don't know what's causing it.
Very annoying - means there's no point in having a notification light!
not had this issue, or at least not noticed it.
last night i did manage to over heat my phone, by having a live video pod cast stream over wifi, while charging, as i only wanted to listen, i lay the phone to rest under my bed quilt.
after about 40mins i picked the phone up and boy it was hot, and i had both the red and green led flashing, not seen this combo before, so it must be a warning to 'stop whatever your doing'

Constant Green LED flash?

My wife has a One V (through US Cellular, stock, non-rooted) and for the last week or so, the green LED has been constantly flashing. The orange charging status notification overrides the green, but the green starts up again as soon as it is unplugged. It doesn't matter if there are notifications or not, and it continues even when all of the LED notifications are disabled in the menu. I've tried resetting the phone, and that doesn't make a difference.
Have any of you had this issue, and if so, is there a way to remedy the problem? It's not a huge deal, but it is annoying.
maybe a factory reset will help
don he has tried resetting it read again
Sent from my ST25i
maybe he means reboot

LED Notifications inop

I bought this S3 used off Ebay and right away rooted and flashed TPR. Works great. Just realized that the LED notifications don't work when the phone is on. If it is off and charging it shines red until charged then green and blue when rebooting but if th phone is on the LED doesn't light ever. I do have everything check marked in Display/Led and I flashed back to stock and still the same. I redownloaded the ROM and still the same. Also in case it matters with debugging on or off when I plug it into my PC to charge at work Auto play pops up which I don't remember happening on my Epic 4G I came from. Any thoughts or do I have to live with it?
Thanks in advance
I assume no replies means I get to live with it but I will bump it once just for giggles and see what happens
Thanks
Just a note to say that it is fixed it in case anyone else has the problem...I had gone back to stock by flashing the return to stock rom but it still persisted. I used Odin to return to stock and it still persisted. I had a problem with the proximity sensor that I had replaced and then the notifications worked properly. I am told that LED notification light and proximity sensor are 2 completely different circuits but that is the timeline of it working.
