Probably a noob question, But how exactly do I do this?
Nandroid back up, flash to sense rom, do the codes/update prl nandroid restore.
Pretty much there is no way except to flash to a Sense ROM and go from there.
I've heard around that it's possible to make PRLs into flashable ZIPs, and if that's true, I'd love for someone to drop me a link to a tutorial so I can add them to ROM Manager. :/
This is the best way to do this. It's kinda of a hassle because PRL's are updated all the time. When you're flashed over on a Sprint sense Rom don't forget update your profile.

I've done a bunch of googling and can't seem to get a straight answer so I thought I'd just ask. I apologize for the noobishness of this question and thank every kind soul in advance for your help on this form in general and this question in particular.
To install cyanogenmod I had to install an older hboot (.76.2000 (pc361)). I did so and things are okay but I really need to wireless tether with 4G these days. So I want to go back to stock. When I try to restore my nandroid backup i get an error restoring the boot image. From what I've found this is due to the hboot version I'm using.
So my question is this: can I simply update the hboot to something newer? Would that remove my ability to run an nandroid recovery? Would I be better just doing a RUU recovery from scratch (or is that even possible)? Essentially, what is the fastest and safest way to get back to a stock image?
Thanks again for your help with this.
So I grabbed the latest RUU and thought I'd give that a shot. It won't work though as it won't see the phone...even though Windows is seeing the phone in device manager. I'm guessing this has to do with SENSE not being on there.
Can one extract the files from the RUU installer and just apply them via the clockwork recovery?
Sorry no one responded sooner you can just use the warm 2. 2 Rom its very good has 4g and Sprint hotspot is hacked automatically and its got a custom version of sense give it a go put it on the root of SD and flash through recovery no need for stock you'll see its enjoyable

From what I heard, the sprint hotspot app only tethers on 3G. Any truth to this?
I battled with the exact same issue. Search my posts for my thoughts and findings in this.
Briefly though, I can say I that you are on the money and I too didn't know how to get past this hboot issue, but I found a way around the issue.
from the beginning, To flash Cm6 you must flash to an older hboot, don't remember the version.
To perform a nandroid restore to your stock sense Rom backup you already made, that is now not working, you have to go back to that hboot you had before you went to the older on to get Cm6 to flash.
Here's how I did it with a little bonus info.
You can now ever make a nandroid backup of Cm6, incase you might want to go back to Cm6.
Use the 3.29. Ruu to get away from cm6 and put that hboot you need to run that nandroid restore to the sense Rom backup you made. This will make you completely stock.
Then you can use unrevoked to root again.
Now you can edo your nandroid restore to your backups that wouldn't work because our hboot is good to go now.
Also, good thing to know is that you can nandroid restore back to your Cm6 backup, if you made one, because its the flashing that requires that other hboot, not a nandroid backup.

This is good info on how to go back to stock. If I weren't so damn busy with work and such I'd even think it should be a wiki article. The world of ROMs and ROOT is a fun place to play and opens up a lot of doors, but for a n00b you can feel kind of stuck. I thin it's because each phone/mfg tends to have their own quirks and so you can read general info but there are always these little variances which make me utterly afraid of bricking a $200 device....
I went with the Warm Two Point Two and, wow, it's slick. It gives me the 4G i needed and works quite well. It does also appear to tether over 4G as well. I'm very happy. But, again, it's good to have the steps outlined to go back to stock because I'm sure I won't be the last person to want to know how to do this.
Thanks again for all your help!
I flashed Ultimate Droid ROM and I have no signal. It's an AOSP ROM and I can't update through settings because the options are not included in AOSP ROM's.
Can someone please give me the file or direct me to a download link so I can flash in recovery?
I have to use wifi to get signal. When I power it off I get 3G connection and then it goes to no signal. Happy Thanksgiving by the way

as far as i know you cant flash prls in recovery. usually you flash a sense rom and then update prl and then nandroid back. of course, if could just be the ROM you flashed. go cyanogen if you want AOSP.
look here for other helpful info.

CM is childs play compared to this ROM. So the only way is to restore to my previous Fresh install and update PRL and then restore back?

Actually still having data issues.
So there is currently no way to flash a PRL?
I'm kind of new here and wanted to flash back to the stock rom how can I do this is remember downloading a bunch of files on my sd when I rooted is one the stock rom?
And also I wanted to do this to update all my pri prl stuff or whatever so if i nandroid backup back to miui backup will they stay updated? Thanks

Search for a thread that has posted the stock Rom rooted. If the only reason you are going stock is to upgrade prl,pri then any sense Rom current will work.

If all you're wanting to do is update your PRI/radios, you can just flash the latest radio package found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
If you're wanting to unroot it then http://www.thedroiddemos.com/2010/09/10/how-to-unroot-the-evo-in-2-steps/
You should do a nand backup of your present before you flash the stock rom. If it's the one you originally saved it's probably named supersonic with a version number or something.
I didn't want to risk dealing with otas so I went with a different sense rom to do my updates for profiles and radios. Don't forget gps.
The updates you are doing can only be performed in sense rom but I am pretty sure they remain in effect for all roms installed thereafter. I mean miui is non-sense but the updates you are talking about will have effect without any special "backup."
I'm still not sure if the pri update to 1.9 is wise.
Why is it not wise? Another dumb question do u have to update ur pri/prl to get the latest 4g towers I really just wanted to update them to check if i get 4g where I'm at... thanks and ya sorry about the two post

Ok I have 2 Evo's being shipped out on Saturday. When they arrive I will be flashing them both to MetroPCS. I just need a little guideance on getting the correct rom.
I believe this is the rom im looking for here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795182
IF I understand correctly, this rom is 2.3 Gingerbread based and has Cyanogenmod 7. But there is also a sense version I believe, and I HATE HTC sense ui.
What exact steps do I need to take to ensure that I Flash My EVO with a Gingerbread CM7 based Rom that will work perfectly with MetroPCS?
Everyone makes it sound so easy but I must be missing something.....Please help.
Have you rooted? It is actually very easy to flash roms. I don't believe that cynogen has sence. Not a fan of sence either I prefer asop. But once your rooted simply put the zip of the rom on your sdcard. Go to recovery wipe data, dalvic-cache and cache then flash zip from sdcard reboot and enjoy
Edit: don't know about metro.

Yes that thread seems to be roms for metro.. Cynogen is not sence. so you should be good to go. When flashing roms just make sure you wipe. Not the sdcard though. Feel free to pm if needed. And hit the thanks if I helped.

I have had some signal issues and I am trying to figure out how to update profile and prl. Using CM7 which I know is ASOP is it possible to update without installing a sense rom? If I need to install sense rom does it matter which one? Sorry still learning about custom roms and Android! Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you need to be on a sense rom. Make a nandroid of your current rom, flash a sense rom, update your stuff, and then restore your rom
We're comin from a pure power source.

Correct. Not possible to do it on an aosp rom. If you do what he says you'll be good. And it doesn't matter which sense rom.

I believe the CM team is working on a way to update the PRL and Profiles from CM7, but for now, follow what the other two said.
Keep a nandroid backup of a Sense ROM specifically for this type of thing.
Someone makes flashable PRL/PRI updates, but I don't know anything about it. Do it the correct way, make a backup of your current rom, flash/restore a sense rom [I always keep one saved just for PRL updates], then flash back to CM7; takes all of 5 minutes.
Hey thanks ! Yeah I figured I would have to flash a sense rom. Thanks for info!
Tis never a problem.
I have an evo that is on boost, I flashed cm7, coming from fresh 4.1, I have the prl method down on how to update but how do I keep my current mms settings at mm. my boostmobile .com, it changes it to mms. Sprint pcs .com, is there a root app or emulator I can use to change the script since ##3282# doesn't work with this rom!

You have to backup your current rom(make a nandroid), then flash a sense rom, upgrade your prl and data profile, then do a restore of your nandroid

The best way is to use the best recovery. Install the smelkus recovery using the instructions here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661543
Then follow these instructions on how to create a nandroid backup: http://evobasics.wikia.com/wiki/How_to_nandroid_backup_with_Amon_RA
